I’m from France and we started to work on this short story. I was really struggling to understand the story but you really helped me, thank you so much!
… as a German Biologist - 1970… In 10 th Grade in our German High School - we had an over ambitious English Teacher making us read this story. It instantly impacted me - even with our poor English and ignorance The words sound like Music… Until this moment…
That's very impressive. The vocabulary is quite advanced. I wonder how many adults in the USA could understand all of the language. I read it circa 1975 or '76, when I was maybe 8 years old. I didn't understand many of the words, but I found it compelling.
Thanks for the story. I want to listen after watching the Netflix series. English is not my first language so thank you for reading slowly, so I can enjoy this amazing author.
so much progress in my English since 2 last year. i remember how after translating merely 3 words i was getting weary, exhausted, sentences didn't make sense for me even if words were familiar. i afraid to imagine what will be after 4,5 years. maybe i won't be scared of talking to others in English-
Marvelous storytelling 😁👍👏✨ it brings the shivers and goosebumps 👻😅 so happy that you are back to full health, hooray!!!!!I've been excitedly waiting to hear this story, thank you very much 🙏🎶😄🥳
I really enjoyed this reading! Good job! I came to listen to this after reading, "The Fall" by Bethany Griffin. I wanted to learn more about the Usher's, and am thoroughly impressed with both authors. I'm a bit disappointed because neither of the tellings had cozy, happy endings but I shouldn't have expected that. Lol. Thanks for reading!
Did you like the netflix show? I thought it was pretty good, with how it mixed a lot of his different stories together, i havent finished it at this time yet im on episode 5.
@classicaudiobookswithelliot I just finished it not that long ago and my personal opinion is that it's really good, has some fun Easter eggs, can't wait to hear what you think
Everyone should have read it at least three times before listening to the audiobook. However good interpretation may it be, it never ever paints the picture on the canvas of imagination, as unique perspective of the reader's personal emotions shaped by one's life experience would. We are getting way too lazy.
I just watched the first 4 episodes last night they were so damn scary Obviously I've heard of Poe, but I never really read him before. Fixing that now
I only liked the voice of the speaker, not the story! I am not sure why people even like to listen to these types stories, maybe learning fancy vocabs.
The Netflix series bears no resemblance to Poe’s masterful work. Why can’t they leave the classics alone. Make your own damn stories. What’s next, a cartoon version of the “Red Death?”
I think so far it's done a good job of staying true to the poem while also having its own spin on things. I do agree I hate remakes and such, but some of them are okay. This being one.
I actually really like the execution of the Netflix series. It takes ideas from many of Poe's works and wraps them together into this larger story. I personally am not super familiar with Poe's poems except for a couple I read in school. But from what I know almost every major character is named after someone from Poe's stories, and if you know the works going in you could see their fates coming and how they've been changed to fit this setting.
@Soup_of_goop so much from his works were intertwined with the story, the poem Annabelle Lee, lenore dying young. That murders of rue morgue, the black cat, obviously the raven lol. The tell tale heart. Soooo many stories I absolutely loved it. Even the jester is in one of his poems. Perry's name and his whole story. The name of their mom is poes actual moms name the cats name was Pluto, and that was poes cats real name. Arthur pyms expedition... like everything in that whole show was somehow connected to either poe or his works.
Never cared for this tale. I like most of Poe's work but this story is all tone, flat characters and almost no plot. Dull by comparison with Hop-Frog, Mask of the Red Death, Pit and the Pendulum, The Black Cat, Cask of Amontillado and Tell-Tale Heart. I appreciate this recording, because I needed to "re-read" the text (I've read it several times over the years) and I don't think I could have forced myself to actually read it yet again.
Thanks for listening. There are recordings of several of these that you’ve suggested on the channel already, narrated by me, so feel free to check them out!

So glad I could help out!

Perhaps yours is an auditory learning style? Gothic tales can sound so much deeper and moving when read aloud.
Read everything!❤

A cadaverness of complection what a great line!
Gothic Passion. Melancholia. Gloom and Doom. Decrepitude. All is reclaimed by the moor.
Just need to record Wuthering Heights now!
I love it! 😊
The moor? Does this take place in England? I don't believe that Poe indicates where the story takes place.
The moor sounds like a superhero from Yorkshire
Thank you, Elliott. 😊
You’re welcome, Leona. Hope you enjoyed!
I'm sharing this with my students and encouraging them to listen while they follow along with the text as they read the story.

Great to hear you enjoyed the story, Cindy. Poe certainly isn’t much of a happy endings kind of guy 😂
I'm not sure of the other author, however, you should never come to expect "cozy" from Poe.
Oh, your narration is absolutely brilliant! Best reading of this story on the platform. Thank you for sharing your gift with us

This is such an interesting story but unfortunately I got too cozy and slept through half of it.. Lol

Great voice!
Have you done any other of Poe's works?
Yes indeed! You can hear The Pit and the Pendulum, The Raven, The Black Cat and The Masque of the Red Death 💀
That was an intriguing story that Edgar Allan Poe created. Full of pessimism, full of darkness, full of gothicness and a classic!
