If you get a cup of water and leave the roots in it for a couple weeks the string of dolphins roots will grow fuller and faster. Mine had root rot so the roots were gone completely when I found it. I started propagating it in water without cutting it, just putting the succulent in water and it has long roots and the dolphins are happy. You can buy super happy ones on Amazon now
I just got my first string of dolphins at my local nursery. It even has buds and looks like it will flower soon. Luckily I have a grow light so I hope to find success in growing it.
Mountain Crest Gardens has it in stock right now: mountaincrestgardens.com/senecio-peregrinus-string-of-dolphins-large-limited/?aff=2&subid=dolphinvideo
I’ve got one that was started in a nursery... it’s in a 4in pot... it sits in a window in the sun room and gets watered the same day each week.... it is really growing fast
I bought this plant a month ago at my local nursery, I tend to have a black thumb but not only does this plant give no problems at all, it seems as if i can not hurt it. Its thriving no matter where I put it. It is super resilient and i was a little hesitant to buy it because my string of pearls did not do so great. Still, they are doing awesome and it might be my favorite!
I’m receiving a free string of dolphins with my Leaf and Clay order. I’m excited to try this little guy out! I’ve heard that string of pearls is easy to rot and I’m totally intimidated by it. I’m happy to hear that this one is a little easier, and gives us thirst signs!
Your videos are concise and informative . I really appreciate the dormancy period information for the type of succulent as this is crucial for successful care and growth. Thank you for posting these videos.
I just recently got this one. Most of the strings refused to root and ended up shriveling up, but maybe 5 strings finally rooted and have started growing! There’s no more exciting moment in plant motherhood than seeing a plant settled in and starting to grow!
I killed the first 10 cuz I overwatered or kept trying to shove their Roots down in the pot and they have Ariel roots so just let them grow down in don't try shoving them underneath there and then watering it cuz they will kill it you better off just let him lay across the top and I finally got it cuz I stopped over watering it but basically
SOD is on my wishlist, but I've been afraid because I haven't had luck with string of pearls. But since you say it's a little easier to take care of, I think I'll give it a try! Thank you.
I just got my very first one. It's a propagated one from my local landscaping store. And it's a very full plant I have mostly 10 in Long strings a couple that are about 18 in long and it's in a 4-in pot which is completely nice and full. I saw it and I just had to have it because it just looks terrific. Of course I'm starting my research, my care research with your channel as always! I'm just going to let it rest for a few days usually I transplant my plants right away but this one seems to be thriving right where it is. A lot of the smaller dolphins are not formed completely yet I'm assuming that's because they are too new period this is going to be so much fun watching this one grow!
Hi. Joan here. I have had a string of dolphins plant that is mostly in the shade. Gets sun late in the afternoon but because I live in Ontario temperatures are all over the map with frost coming anytime at night in September or October
I just picked this up at the grocery store! Can't wait to see how it grows. I had a baby String if Pearls plant that I had a hard time understanding and nurturing so I hope this String of Dolphins and I can connect well. Thank you so much for the tip!
I'm not sure how many local shops will carry them, but Mountain Crest Gardens has them in stock right now: mountaincrestgardens.com/senecio-peregrinus-string-of-dolphins-large-limited/?aff=2&subid=dolphinsvideo
I have been thinking of getting this, the leaves look so cute! Succulents aren't the easiest but I have not given up! You make it sound so easy! Very informative! Especially the dormancy part. I thought the dormancy period of late fall through winter was for all plants. Learn something new everyday. Glad I saw this video before purchasing. Thank you!
I'll be honest and admit I'm not into SOP kinds of plants.. so I spent the video focusing on all of your cute little containers. Theres so many but they coordinate together so well!!
I just got one a couple of months ago & it’s doing great. I have it hanging in a macrame planter over my tub in the master bathroom & it’s putting on lots of new growth. A few pieces broke off while putting it in the macrame planter and I just popped them in soil & they are putting on new growth as well. 🐬
These are so cute! That's good to know about string of pearls and also string of dolphins, I've always wanted to get some string of pearls and now I know how to not kill it if I do get some! But maybe I'll add string of dolphins higher up on my list...I too assumed that it would be more difficult to care for because it's such a novel sort of succulent, but that's great that it isn't! Maybe the thinner dolphin shapes means that it can tolerate watering a little more often than those round string of pearls? I find that the roundest/fattest-leaved succulents need water the least often, whereas succulents with thinner leaves need a little bit more regular watering during their growing season.
Dolphins seems like something I could grow in zone 9. Will be looking for this succulent. So nice to get up in the morning with Cassidy and and a cup of coffee. Everyone have a blessed day.
This is one of the first succulents I ever had and I had it in regular soil outside without shade during the rainy season. It took me months before I decided to look it up. I was horrified when I learned that it was rare and have specific growing needs 😅😅. I immediately repotted it in well draining soil and put it in bright shade but I was amazed by how robust its growth during its time of neglect.
I was so happy to see the subject of today's video! A dear friend gave me a String of Dolphins for my birthday a few months ago. I had never heard of it. I have it growing in the master bath and it seems very happy. I just have to be careful not to over water it because it's in a humid environment but it really has been very easy to care for.
I only recently learned, in a picture, that there was a succulent that looked like a dolphin. I would love to find it and try growing it. Your information will help me be successful. Thank you
This is one that I don't have yet. I would've assumed that it would've been pickier that SOP, considering that it's harder to find. I water my SOP less than any other plant in my greenhouse (besides my butts), and I have hundreds and hundreds, so that's saying a lot! I would've watered this one even less until I got more acquainted with it. Thanks for teaching me different!!
I love this succulent. I just got one and it's just like I thought it would be. Thanks for sharing this information. I have to watch the amount of sunlight I give growing here in Central Florida. I think I'm going to keep this guy indoors because the temps are too hot here and I hear they don't do good in high heat situations. This was great information and I appreciate it. Have a beautiful day🌸🍃
I have it growing under my t5 grow light and it seems to really like that.. I keep my lights on for about 14 hrs a day, (I have my other succulents directly under it.. but this guy doesn't get the direct light, he sits off to the side getting really bright, but indirect light).. Living and growing here in Florida can be tricky with the weather we encounter.. so I grow them all in terracotta pots. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep this inside so it doesn't struggle in our ridiculously humid, rainy 110°f weather we have right now.. Gosh, it's so much work, keeping my outdoor plants happy right now. I have to watch the amount of waterings I give because we have like 90 to 100% humidity and a lot of them take the moisture in from the air. I've noticed the string of dolphins is doing that too lately. Thanks for sharing such great info.. There is always something to learn when adding a new plant to the collection and this was the most info I've found so far. Have a beautiful day! Thank you for all your hard work and willingness to share🐞🍃
One of my favorite succulents! I've had a little problem with it but have been very successful propagating this plant in water. Thanks so much for the tips on watering - especially the tip about the dolphins flattening out. I have run into this and didn't know why it was doing that.
I found this cute as heck succulent at my favorite nursery today! I have had great success with my string of pearls and bananas so I was super, duper excited to get my hands on a really full, healthy 4" pot of these bad boys for way less than I was willing to pay. Your video is very informative, I subscribed! Thank you!
Thank you for the feedback! I was trying to keep these simple to produce so we could do a lot this month. However, not including close ups was definitely an oversight. In South East Queensland, Australia, it's definitely a less watering situation is better. I was watering mine every 3 days and it was dying. I cut back to once a week and it's doing a lot better! We are a warm temperate climate here.

Mountain Crest Gardens has them in stock right now! mountaincrestgardens.com/senecio-peregrinus-string-of-dolphins-large-limited/?aff=2&subid=dolphinsvideo
I've been seeing it in the group FB posts & was so envious but finally found it locally. Waited 2-3 days after repotting before watering & it really perked up. Then it got pretty dried up so watered it with the soak & dry method. However it stayed deflated. Some others in the group said they kept theirs moist without the soil being too wet for too long. Tried that but arrghh still the same. This is one of my most precious succs as I waited so long before I got it so I checked everything possible to see what's the best way to ensure it doesn't die on me. The summer blazing heat isn't helping at all too. :((
The heat may be part of the issue. However, as long as they aren't drying up completely you should be fine. I would anticipate that as the temps get cooler you'll see more growth and they'll perk up again.
I just got a string of dolphins about 2 weeks ago from a new supplier at Etsy. They looked beautiful when I received them but since then I already started to loose some of it. I am going to keep an eye and hope this is not going to be a problem. Thanks for the video.

I have never seen this succulent...love it! Would love to try to grow, but definitely need a grow light living in zone 5B. I have had poor success with a grow light in the past...looking for some advice as to selection/type/location in house, etc to see if I can do better growing some of my new favorite succulents during a WI winter. In the past I was just disappointed with results. Thank you.
Thank you for the tips, I bought 8 cuttings online and stuck them in a glass of water, they have grown roots and as I was going to be away for 3 weeks asked a friend to plants them. They grew like crazy on her windowsill (west facing in Australia) getting full afternoon sun. I just planted them today where they'll get full Sun from 10 or 11 am all day. I'll watch and see what happens.
Very cute plant, I will add to my collection.
i have had a string of dolphin plant for about 4 months. it is so cute, and had grown a lot since i first got it!
Wish list plant. So cute.😊. You make propagation sound so easy.
Just bought one yesterday that was sad and dying so I had to rescue it and try and to save it. Fingers crossed for this newbie plant mom. 🤞🏼
Same here. I feel like my dolphins are looking a bit sad. :(
Fingers crossed for both of us. 🤞🏼💪🏼

Not for my zone 4 area or my very dry home.
I have one! She's right - it's easy to care for. My profile pic is from the day I brought it home, and it's doubled in size in under a year! :)
what a cute little guy!

Obsessed!!! String of dolphins is actually on my wish list, can’t wait to get my hands on some.
Loving this series.Just a suggestion:It would have been better if you could show a closer picture of the plants.
