The scene of Ben struggling to pick up the engagement ring so Reed picks it up for him unironically makes me emotional to this day. So much character development without a word of dialogue. This movie is slept on, big time
For a slight taste of a Chris Evans villainous type role - Scott Pilgrim (if it hasn't already been watched)
Or The Gray Man
@@IMNJSWIFT he played a villian in that and you could tell he loved it
Right! He’s very versatile. He can play many different characters whether it’s a snarky villain, snarky hero or, downright humble hero like Captain America. A true character actor who has great comedic chops as well!
Scott Pilgrim is GOATed
He was fantastic 🤣 in "The Losers"
To this day, anytime someone says anything resembling the "This is gonna be fun" line around my dad, he will quote the line while imitating Doctor Doom's voice. Gives you an idea of how often this movie was watched in my house.
I have a similar story but in my case I’m the one saying it
My dad does the same thing with The Big Bang Theory, except he changes the lyrics to the Soft Kitty song. He sings the first two lines as: 🎶Soft kitty, pinche gato....🎶
When I see or hear this phrase I instantly think of Doom saying it
Ioan is a spot on Reed Richards I hope he's brought back as him
All of them were comic accurate actually even Jessica
@@Chuck_EL Now this reply... I like. 👍
I think this is an underrated superhero movie. Obviously it’s not the best, but there’s something charming about it, and it’s just enjoyable.
*Remove "obviously it's not the best" as that has no meaning in any sentence. If you like something, like something.*
@@Seraphilms *Love and Thunder is 21st century cheese. It's Taika Waititi's middle-finger to Stan Lee and Marvel's creation.*
@@hulkhatepunybanner what the F has that got to do with this.
@@disclaimer.imjokin *Why so stressed? Lower your sensitivity to what triggers you. I won't walk on eggshells for you.*
@@Seraphilms I agree you know it's the mid 2000's when there is a scene with Extreme sport with sum 41 playing in the background lol but I still have fun memories of this film
IMO Michael Chiklis playing The Thing is kinda like Dave Bautista playing Drax. Not the flashiest of characters, but they were perfect for the roles.
yep, everyone was good in the roles except Jessica. She's pretty to look at but can't act at all, should have went with a real actress instead of eye candy.
@@eolsunder Rachel MacAdams would've been a better choice at the time.
He was actually a huge comic book fan, especially of Ben Grimm and was pushing for the practical costume, apparently.
Drax in the comics is far less goofy
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 yup. He is very much like Kratos.
Chris Evans' range is immensely slept on. Going from his very first film role in Not Another Teen Movie to Captain America and all the roles in between, i don't think he gets enough credit.
Agreed, I loved him in The Losers, also a comic book adaptation with a great cast.
@@JMO_1976 The Losers is my favorite movie. When someone who's never seen it asks me what is about, "it's the A-Team but better and Chris Evans best role"
Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Hilarious performance from Chris Evans
He was intense in Snow Piercer too. Really good actor. Just obviously most known for Captain America
I love NATM. It's very crude, but also hilarious.
Compared to the 2015 version this is a masterpiece 😂
The 1994 movie is a masterpiece compared to the 2015 movie
I agree with you even though I haven't seen the 1994 fantastic four.
@@andrewli6606 never seen it. I've heard it's awful
The 2015 suffered from false Dark Knight syndrome.
We don’t talk about the 2015 movie 😂
Michael Chiklis was a big fan of the comics and insisted on the practical effects for The Thing. For the time he is done pretty well I think.
IIRC, he said in an interview that he told his brother when they were younger that one day he'd play the Thing. He was a huge fan apparently. As for the Thing character, the only thing they could've done to make it better is to have the eyebrow area stand out more. Even the prototype Thing toy in the movie had them. Had they done that, I think it would've been spot on.
Hulk vs Ben grimm
Oh gosh, my childhood! Seeing this just made me feel old and I'm only 22. I remember watching this movie constantly as a kid. This alongside spiderman.
After Spider-Man 2, this was my favorite Marvel movie growing up. I remember seeing it in theaters when I was 5 years old.
Growing up watching Charmed reruns I came to really love Julian Mcmahon as Cole in the show despite how his character was written, seeing him in this again makes me realize he'd make a fantastic MCU villain
I really love the Fantastic Four. They were the first team to introduce that sort of family dynamic. They bicker & fight & it adds so much to their stories. Johnny & Ben's relationship has gotta be my favorite lol
This is a movie straight from my childhood. I enjoyed seeing it every time it came on TV, despite it not being the best of superhero movies. Still a fun ride, and the best F4 movie to date (hopefully that'll change in just a few years)
The sequel was better
@@nicholaskrivda5321 with a butchered Galactus?
“I’d still love you if you turned into a rock man.”
Jen is too good
Hey, she married Holden for a lot more than his looks.
Guy's just genuinely a decent guy.
Because Holden will be rock hard lol
Would she tho ?
But would she love him if he turned into a big pile of shi... lol
All I know is I need me a Jen lol
He also played Balthazar on the original Charmed with Alyssa Milano. A far more fun character in my opinion. A role that I'd say prepared him well for this movie.
Cole
This movie and cast will always have a sweet spot to me.
It's amazing to me how much Jen's outlook on superhero movies, and movies in general, has changed from ironman 1 and beyond! Even delving into some animated stuff, like ATLA which I loved seeing y'all react to that. Enjoying the content, keep it up!!!
She needs to be introduced to the DC animated films from the 2010s.
@@natsohigh5552 and to the Justice League animated series!
@@TheKingofHearts777 Yes. That gives me really strong 90s animated Batman series vibes.
And the only Marvel animated film I'd recommend is the Dr Strange origin story from 2007. It's so good.
@@natsohigh5552 Or any of the actually good DC animated films (essentially any one that doesn’t exist in the DCAMU). Flashpoint was the first and last good DCAMU film. It was nigh cathartic when they violently erased that universe and rebooted with the Tomorrowverse.
Even after all these yesrs I enjoy the casting for the characters. Ioan Gruffudd with the grey streaks looks just like comic Reed. It’s always good and amazing when a comic book movie can cast people who look like the characters
I always believed that if they wanted to look more like the 60s FF, they should've cast Elisha Cuthbert as Sue Storm. She's practically a dead ringer for Sue in their early years.
I fully agree he captured Reed's comic fixation on cures and fixing every quantum equation sometimes at the expense of his personal life
Alright, I kinda dig that Jen appreciation Holden’s joke about Mr. Fantastic’s way to get Sue back 😂 she doesn’t get upset at him over all the adult jokes lol
maybe it's the pregnancy 🤣
I actually think IoanGruffydd as Reed was perfect casting and the only reason he never went on to bigger and better things was he refused to change his name to an Anglo one from his native British one. They wanted to call him John Griffiths to make it easier for Americans, same thing pictured to Zack Levi, whose surname is actually Pugh! Ironically no one told Florence Pugh to do the same.
@truthbeforeopinion941: Ioan ( actually pronounced Yo-han ) Gruffydd ( pronounced Griffith ) is actually Welsh ( from Wales, ) NOT British ( from England, ) although both are part of the U.K.
@robertc.1968 Welsh is British 😅 The island of Great Britain i.e England, Scotland and Wales. Not Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom (four countries), which is different from the island of Great Britain.
@@CJ77777 Duh! That's essentially what I said in my reply to @truthbeforeopions941, above. Except it's U.K., or maybe or Great Britian as an overall name, for England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland ( excluding Northern Ireland. )
@robertc.1968 You said, "not British (from England). Welsh people are British, not just people from England. Are you from Wales or England?
@@CJ77777 : Neither. I am from the U.S. ( although I am now living in S.E. Asia. )
I actually really like this movie. I like the simple story. They nailed the characters personalities
To me, i felt like sue wasnt that bad or just a love interest. She was really the glue holding the team together. She kept pushing everyone to keep on track, and when it came time she jumped to help everyone. Sure they kept going back to the love stuff, but she was the middle ground in the movie. Some people just didn’t listen to her.
I love this movie. I know its not the best thing ever, but its really fun to watch. When i think of these characters, these actors are who i always see playing them. They fit so well.
This is a certified childhood classic for me I literally watched this movie when i was a toddler.
Honestly I think the casting for this film is damn near perfect
What makes Reed's power more disgusting is in the novel based on the movie his power works by dislocating his bones and then he stretches. His bones are the only part of him that stays "solid". So on the bridge scene where they emphasized him covering his elbow joints, there were supposed to be heavy bruising
I personally love this film. Didn't care if it was cheesy or campy. I love the cast members and their chemistry with each other. Plus, I love how low stakes this has compared to the newer superhero films.
18:53 RIP Stan Lee. Fun Fact: The Fantastic Four is actually Stan Lee's first comic book characters he made for Marvel. They were also the first superheroes that were relatable.
Can we just give credit to the make ip and costume designers. The suits looks great and the Thing body looks amazing. Without using cgi.
When jen mentioned "the shield", it made my day, i love that show !!! Great reaction to this movie also !
Yup, from the late 90s thru the early 2010s, channels like Fx, USA, & TNT had some great shows that launched a lot of great actors.
I love Julian McMahon as Doctor Doom. Dude does a great job portraying villains; Charmed, Fantastic Four 1&2 and The Runaways. Missing accent aside, he comes off menacing and calculated and I still don't know who else could play Doctor Doom.
What is his accent? I always pictured Dr. Doom as a Ralph Fiennes type. I think Julian McMahon is pretty good in this too. He's the best part of this movie to me..
@davidsavage5630 I meant the character of Doctor Doom. In the comics, he's from a country called Latvaria, which is mentioned in the movie and the ship at the end says LATVARIA on it. So Doom is supposed to have an accent but I don't mind him not having on because Julian does a really good job.
Julian McMahon as doctor was was really good Ik he’s probably to old to play him now but if he came back 🤯
@@dre__boii he’s not that old
I first saw Julian mcmahon from watching charmed back in the old days, and back then he literally was the best character in that show duo his acting range, he was badass back then and in this movie as well, very underrated actor.
That Roy Mustang edit at 12:38 hahaha
I enjoy this movie. It's definitely not as strong as many of the other early marvel movies but its something I enjoy watching casually.
This one was my First Superhero Movie, that I watched back in 2012 almost every Weekend. I loved it
I know these movies get talked down on a lot but I always enjoyed them. This was the first time I saw these characters live action and I’ve always enjoyed the performance of all these great actors
Holden has me laughing so hard when he kept making Shalong jokes. What a great reaction
I saw this back in 2005, when I got the DVD for Christmas that same year, and it definitely became one of my favorite childhood movies, as well as one of my favorite comic book movies.
I like how you guys put Willem Dafoe's lines in there : you know how much I've sacrifice !!! and out am I!! I Respect that .
I genuinely think that this movie is hidden gem. It's not perfect by any means, many superhero movies aren't. I just feel all sorts of nostalgic about this movie. I agree with Holden about the casting, it's "fantastic". I think with a more streamlined plot, this could have gone down as one of the better adaptations of comicbook movies.
Poor Thing, Jen saw him and immediately thought "that's a villain right there" 😞
I thought that was gunna be the worse thing she said about…I was very wrong😂
17:25 "You don't deserve me at my Thing"
"Very poor choice of words" 😂
This movie holds a lot of nostalgia for me and I was super excited to see yall react to it. I agree with Jen, definitely a 6 out of 10, but I think it's a great movie to go back and watch every so often.
25:06 Fun Fact originally Reed turns his face into Hugh Jackman's Wolverine for this part but it was deleted
To be honest , I didnt liked the body stretching super power of Reeds back when I was a kid but one piece changed my mind on this power . It literally showed me how cool this power can be with the right amount of creativity😅
Yeah, there's a lot of cool representations of how powerful it can be in the FF comics or other characters like Plasticman or Elastigirl. One of the most interesting parts to Reed Richards is how his power gives him inhumanly good neuroplasticity (brain plasticity) - it's a major contributor to why he's the world's smartest man because he can dramatically reorganize his mind in attempts to find a better out of the box solution. Other cool uses are stuff like being bullet proof, adjusting the distance between his cornea and retina to see further, and shortening the distance between brain synapses to process thoughts at impossibly fast speeds.
I'd have fun with stretchy powers if I had it
I mean the remember merchandise and toys in this filmmwas amazing. I remember having a free book of what they can offer. I wish I had them.
My childhood, i watched this movie before watching the cartoons and reading the comics. So as a kid i thought that it was a live action movie about the Incredibles and that Johnny Storm was a grown up Jack Jack.
For its time,I thought this was fairly good. It came of the back of X-men and Spiderman (one of the deleted scenes on the DVD had Reed turning into Wolverine) .
Ioan was as far as I was concerned amazing casting as Reed . He was pretty much the comics character brought to life.
Michael Chiklis was also a hidden gem and seemed perfect for the role .Ben/Thing has always been one of Marvels most tragic characters and I would of liked to have seen this explored more in later films.
Chris Evans pretty solid choice for a young hothead and I remember the whole WTF moment when it was announced he was going to be Captain America because everyone instantly cited this film as a reason for him not to do it.
Jessica Alba. I love some of her work but I feel she was woefully miscast here.she did the best with what they gave her but for me it was a "nope" having said that I don't know who I'd have chosen 15 yrs ago to play her.
The one thing I will say though is that the 2015 remake of Fantastic four makes this film look like Citizen Kane 😀😃
Elisha Cuthbert as Sue Storm would've been better IMHO.
They changed Dr. Doom's powers totally. Here he is a mutated metal man with lightning powers; in the comics, he is a regular human with a powered suit of armor, basically evil Iron Man but also knows magic (his mother was a gypsy witch) like Dr. Strange and he makes himself king of Latveria, a small country, his homeland that he rules with an iron fist. He is also rumored to be part of the inspiration for Darth Vader. Both wear masks to hide disfigured, burned faces, both have high tech suits, both know "magic", both are just about the most formidable villains in their universes, etc. So far, no movie adaption has really done the character justice.
Jen saying “it’s a spider man thing” is such a new term I gotta use 😂
"Is it the rock guy? He looks like a villain to me" 😭 Poor Ben
Can I agree 100% with all the issues that Jen and Holden brought up and still have a fondness towards this movie, and the sequel? Yes, I can. I would only add that I think they really, really nailed Ben Grimm in these movies, his voice, his accent, and his story line too, seems like the filmmakers took a lot of interest in him. And I think the suit is fantastic, I mean Ben's, but everyone's too, even Doom. Doom though... He's cool for what the scope of this movie called for, but man, knowing him from the comics, how he is *greater than life* indeed, yeah, metal man who shoots lightning is so not him in his totality.
I know these movies get crapped on a lot, but they were my childhood. I honestly wish this was the Fantastic Four entering the MCU.
Looking forward to you guys seeing the sequel. 😃
Not sure why I remember this, but that scene where Doom shoots the electricity out of his hand in the garage killing the guy, you may notice it being a somewhat odd hand position (arm straight down) for a forward "strike". This is because the scene was shot, with the intent to have the electricity go straight down to the pavement, travel across it, and then up into the guys body. This effect was shown in the original trailer on TV. They changed it to the straight beam for the theatrical release. No idea why, it was better before.
I consider this version of the Fantastic 4 underrated. I grew up watching these films, collected the action figures, played the video games and even wore the costume of my favorite member of the Fantastic Four, Ben Grimm aka The Thing! Thanks Holden and Jen for reacting to it! 💙🤍❤️🔥🧡💚🖤
I still have fond memories of this from when I was a kid, and back then Ben was my favorite and even upon rewatch with this he remains my favorite.
Man I love this movie. Brings me back to my childhood. It’s not the best movie, it feels very early 2000’s but sooo much fun.
JEN'S COMMENTARY IS HILARIOUS!
31:59 aah yes cause trying fight a magic woman who can change literal reality is something you can outsmart, it's people who try to apply actual logic to movie logic that really make me laugh, they were all gonna die anyway regardless how you approach it.🤣
The Schlong 😂 That made me giggle 😂
Edit: Also starring, the Doodoo Man 😂
Awesome I love this movie so much I was 4 when this came out
The four power are incredible
Love your reaction jen and Holden
The irony at the age u watched it
4:08 Superheroes sometimes belong to more than one team.
For example, in the comics, Wolverine has been in the X-Men and the Avengers.
Spider-Man has been in MANY teams. Avengers, X-Men, Heroes for Hire, Defenders, etc.
Spider-Man once joined the Fantastic Four, but under a new team name, called Future Foundation. He did this because Johnny died.
In Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, Chris Evans is a comic book villain. I mean, he's in it for like 5min, but still he's in it as a villain. Idk if you guys reacted to that, but you should if you didn't.
6:35 🥲🥲🥲🥺 Thank you for mentioning Peter and Johnny’s friendship, it’s all I think about 😩
Amen! 👏
OMG!! If you're after Chris Evans as a bad guy - an actually bad guy - then you HAVE TO check out The Gray Man (2022)!!! It is such a treat, a special agents style action movie and Evans is brilliant, playing mainly against Ryan Gosling. Really hope you go for it at some point :)
As always, great reaction and thank you both for sharing your awesome with us :)
'Till next time
/Lizz
Yep this. First movie I could think of for bad guy for him.
Gray Man wasn't the best of movies but it was absolutely entertaining and fun performances and always fun to see Ana De Armas in action again
"OH NO SAVE THE DOG!....and the firemen" 😂
I loved this movie as a kid. Now that i am older i still love it but now that i know more about the characters like Doom i hope when he is in the MCU he is adapted to his full power
NAMECOMINGSOON Yeah this movie is decent but it does a HORRIBLE job with Doom’s character. His power set is completely wrong, they very little if at all dive into his magic and technology. Nothing to do with Latveria, had him acquire powers at the same time as them which is just completely inaccurate, none of it is good for Doom lol. It won’t be hard for the MCU to do him better Justice
I still enjoy this as an adult. The Thing is my favorite member of the team.
I love this movie! It was the first superhero movie I watched in theaters and it made me a F4 fan. I can't wait to see what the MCU does with this characters.
I love Jen’s point of references for actors. Julian McMahon was also Cole in Charmed!
Speaking of Michael Chiklis, he did a little-known superhero show called 'No Ordinary Family' a few years after this, with Julie Benz. It's kind of a 'Fantastic Four' meets 'suburban family' thing, and pretty fun.
One season.
There was so much more to explore.
4:38 Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a movie where you can see Chris Evans in a villainous role, in case you're interested
I wish they’d have used Ioan Gruffud instead of John Krazinski as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
same
Especially now that Pedro Pascal is the new Reed Richards shows Krasinski's casting was pointless.
".. expose yourself to the storm, I'm not you Schlong!"
That line cracks me up!!!!
I remember watching this in the theaters back then. Was probably 11 years old or so. My moms friend was gonna pay for the tickets for my friend and I. The cashier was like "these boys are too old to watch this movie", my friends mother went full karen and we got to see it. A very odd thing to say.
Too OLD to watch it? That really is silly. Y'all should have told her she's too old to not know to mind her own damn business..
@@davidsavage5630 yeah, it was so weird
There is an extended version of this movie that makes it slightly better. We got more scenes between Ben and Alicia, Johnny realizing that people don’t actually love him the way he thinks, and showing more of Reed and Sue’s date
You can feel the Kevin Fiege footprint all of these fantastic four movies. Since he was one of the main people in charge of this movie before the mcu ever existed. Would fit right into a secret wars movie.
Why is this movie way more unique than any MCU movie tho? Must’ve been every other person working on this movie that made it good
Kevin Feige was a producer on most of the earlier Marvel films going all the way back to the 2000 X-Men.
@@bystandah9626 correct.
Nobody has ever spoken much about him in the background of these films (that whole first era).
When Avi Arad was running things, Feige was the no.2 guy.
Other than a documentary on X-men 1.5, I like to see more of what he was doing prior to the MCU.
5:17 either im going crazy or was the wilhelm scream ALWAYS there?!
30:33 okay lmaooo i wasn't crazy
I’ll watch your review later but let me see on this film itself. I don’t understand the bad rap it gets. I actually didn’t think it was that bad! In fact, of all the attempts to do the fantastic four, this one is actually pretty accurate.
The show Steelers were definitely Michael Chiklis as the thing and Chris Evans as the human torch! They were definitely the show stealers of this movie!
Ervin Griffin, Jr. Pretty accurate for the F4 themselves? Fairly accurate yes. Accurate for Dr. Doom? Not even close lol. Nothing about Doom’s character here is anything like Doom in the comics or animated series. No clear indicator of his intelligence with technology, no showcase of his sorcery abilities, he isn’t the ruler of Latveria, none of it. He’s Doom in name only unfortunately
22:02 He is! Even though this movie doesn't do him justice, I still can't wait to see him in the MCU! 🙏🏽
Amen brother! 👏
Tired of F4 getting done dirty. Marvel wouldn’t exist without them since Stan Lee created them thinking it would fail but ended up being a big success. They’re a very crucial part of Marvel.
to this day as a 2007's kid i loved this movie and i love watching your guys's reactions plus i really liked chris evans as jhonny storm
That’s my fantastic 4 😊❤️
Michael Chickles absolutely Killed it as The Thing! He made me a fan of the character.

These movies were my childhood regardless of how it holds up today
I popped off audibly when I saw this video in my notifications. This is EXACTLY what I needed after my shift at work. Can't wait to get into it! I love this movie!!
Don't watch the 2015 reboot! It sucks!
The Worst Comic Book Movie Ever Made! It still holds 9,% on RT.
No one liked it, not one single person liked it at all. My dad's co workers went to go see it, and called it "one of the stupidest movies ever made."
I always wanted THIS Fantastic 4 cast to return to NYC just after the Avengers took care of business and have Chris Evans in a scene with himself as BOTH Cap and Torch. (Saw this in San Francisco when it was released. I was there on a security deployment and had some down time. I was also long distance friends with singer Anastacia, at the time, who had a duet with Ben Moody on this soundtrack. A lot of memories come with this film for me.)
Loved Jen “Save The DOG!!! and the firemen too”
I wish Dr Dooms main power was baldness 12:23
The Fantastic Four were actually the first superhero group to fight Kang
I recently re-watched this movie and found a Wilhelm scream in a very unexpected place. At 1.52 during Reeds presentation when the projection shows the storm flying by a well hidden Wilhelm is played. It took 18 years for me to notice that.
Such an underrated movie, great effects and love Michael Chiklis and that main theme is just awesome been humming it since ‘05
I grew up with this movie and have always enjoyed it. It feels in the same vein of the Rami Spiderman movies to me. Plus Doctor Doom is my favorite comic book character of all time.
12:35 Holden...........there is no way Jenn knows about FMAB. THAT would be an amazing reaction series to do once a week 2 episodes. I know I'm wishing on a prayer here.
Yessss!!!!!!!!!!!! My all time fave anime
I think this was one of Stan Lee's best cameos - he played Willie Lumpkin, who in the comics in the 90's became Aunt May's boyfriend.
The one cameo that was an actual character.
Definitely a good idea.
Stan had the time of his life doing that scene.
Yes!!!!! Jenn eye rolls are the best:)
I too had the chill factor of seeing the star from Shield go up against the star from Nip/Tuck. Inspired casting choices.
in order to get Sue back, the look away, and slow realization and laugh...I love you guys...
I love this movie growing up as a kid. Spending a lot of time on the bonus features looking at deleted scenes and the music videos!!!! This movie is PEAK
The Gray Man is Chris as a full on villain and Jessica does a show called La's Finest which is very good
