Something I always liked more about the MCU than Fox or Sony movies is how well they can depict action and powers where it doesn't just feel like stilted wire work. I'm hoping the stretch powers continue improving in live action to reach the levels of creativity as Incredibles or One Piece.
With the multiverse they could bring him back as the Torch as I liked him in this role, they could always do a short cameo like they did with Spider-Man. Doubt they would though as it would be strange seeing him in this role permanently again after being Captain America.
Eh, I’ll agree that it gets a little more hate than it should but by 2005 the bar had been set by Spider-Man 2, X2 and Batman Begins and this is non-comparable B-movie schlock.
@@SorgFamily to be fair, both Spider-Man 2 and X2 had the benefits of having previous movies to allow them to get to the quality they were at. And this movie is of course based on a much more campy comic. They definitely made a comic book movie rather than a superhero movie.
@@markc4008 So...Same as Spider-Man 2. Raimi made comic book movies and they were+are top shelf. This is just kinda an 'okay' flick. And the sequel's bad.
This holds a special place in my heart because it introduced me to the Fantastic Four as the first Marvel superhero team I ever learnt about and it made me a massive fan of the Fantastic Four comics as a whole. Even though this film isn't perfect and pretty campy I will say the F4 cast themselves is incredibly good and it is perhaps the best Fantastic Four movie we've gotten, that isn't The Incredibles.
I'm so glad it inspired you to check out the comics, that's the whole point for young people like you who never read the comics before the actual live action flicks. My ''Generation X'' read the comics while getting carried away by its vivid imagination about favorite paper characters coming to life.. Never watched the superhero cartoons..
Jessica Alba was good in Dark Angel. She said this film almost made her quit acting. She said the director didn't want her to emote in an unattractive way, so no "ugly crying" for her. She was told that they could CGI in tears in post-production. So yeah, she looked like a model they threw into this role, but that's all they wanted her to be.
Because she was the best actress ever lol she made excuses up for her not being able to act same as she did in her next two movies. Do you hear from her anymore. She’s known for having a bad attitude. Paul walker before he died said he would never work with someone with that big of an ego again.
Greg hit the nail on the head when he said “it’s like I’m reading a comic book” it’s quirky, fun, and doesn’t always take itself seriously like a lot of comics. Is it dated? Absolutely, especially the CGI for Reed, but it still manages to get some laughs, and I really like the teamwork in the final fight to take down Dr Doom.
Three fun facts about Victor Von Doom. One in the comics victor von doom aka Doctor Doom got a small scar on his cheek so he had a metal mask made to cover it and instead of waiting for it to cool down he put the mask on well it was still glowing red hot (scarring his face even worse if he could take the mask off though he can not)Two in the comics besides being a genius he is also a skilled sorcerer (at one point he was even considered for The Sorcerer Supreme) and finally the reason he became a sorcerer was to save his mother from her imprisonment in literal hell which he did. Am such a comic book geek. The human torch in the comics is actually a really good friend of Spider-Man. When you rapidly cool hot metal it hardens,it’s how knifes and swords are made.
Nice reaction Greg, this movie is my childhood and saw it as my introduction to the fantastic four. Chris Evans was my favorite thing of the film series, just like he nailed Steve Rogers, he nailed as Johnny Storm.
These two movies are darn fun! Should definitely watch Rise of the Silver Surfer; just to see that character alone done on screen was pretty cool. Plus there's more weight and stakes in the sequel.
this movie has a special place in my heart. i remember being 5-6 y/o and getting the dvd along with a dvd player and i would watch it repeatedly for years.
Still love this movie even with its flaws 😂 The chemistry between the F4 is unmatched and I hope the new cast manages to capture that same family dynamic these guys had
I agree, even though its like fast pace and the story is very rushed for a comic book origin story movie wise, the chemistry between the cast is absolutely spot on. also, micheal chiklis as The Thing, he stole every scene
Ben Grimm is one of marvel’s most tragic characters. There was a comic where he saves a girl and the girl falls in love with him. He gets really nervous about whether she really likes him. Eventually he finds out that she staged the whole thing so she could meet him, and get a sample of his skin, because it could save her company. Ben doesn’t say anything, rips off some of his stone skin, and hands it to her. He says “you could’ve just asked” and walks away.
These 2 movies &’ the X-men trilogy really have a childhood nostalgia for me 🥹 remember getting to see these movies in the theater with my mom or grandpa 🖤
I really enjoyed these movies when I was younger. Ioan Gruffudd should've been in Multiverse of Madness. It wasn't fair that the other actors got to come back and play their characters again but not him.
This fantastic four movie isn't bad for it's time it's good fun and I personally find the casting pretty solid rise of the silver surfer isn't the best storywise but still watchable I think
I loved this movie when it came out! honestly of all the fantastic four movies we've gotten, it's probably the best one so far. Jessica Alba was honestly a great Sue Storm IMO. And would love to see Chris Evans come back to the MCU as a Human Torch variant 😂
I agree, I don’t know why a lot of people don’t like Jessica as Sue Storm. She’s portrayed her really well. Especially all the BS she had to deal with on set. She did good for a job that stressed her out. I also love Jessica Alba in Honey, both The Fantastic Four movies, the X-Men movies and Honey were core movies in my childhood.
I absolutely loved this movie as a child. Its quirky and funny and theres superheros! What more can a small child want? Human Torch and The Thing steal the show.
I kinda miss comic book movies like this. Like it’s live action, but still feels over the top and very not real (like he said, like a comic book). Don’t get me wrong, I love the realistic Batman movies, and avengers, and stuff but this just feels so fun. Love the Dalmatian in the fire truck lol
Now that F4 is coming to the MCU I really hope we get to see Spider-Man and the human torch interact. They became close friends in the comics and had team ups so it would be nice to see that in some capacity.
I love how when Greg missed cuing Tara in at 1:26 , you can see Tara get excited to say it but quickly realize he just ran through the line, so she starts dancing to cope with the betrayal. I felt that! Im so happy Greg caught it almost immediately and allowed her to get her Bells 🔔 out there! ❤❤
This movie is walking on a fine line between campy and edgy 😂 That's why it feels so weird to me even since the first time I saw it, but at the same time, iconic.
You know, I never noticed the fact that the girl that wants to see Ben is blind. In the number of times I have watched this movie I have never noticed that. That makes the relationship so much more heartwarming.
5:29 Victor beginning his proposal: "four words that will change our lives forever" Reed interrupting with news: "the cloud is accelerating" I love little touches like this one where he thought he was setting up for one thing but instead he changed their lives forever in a way more significant than marriage.
I liked this movie way more than the 2015 version. This cemented Chris Evans in the Marvel Universe for me. The scene where Johnny is being chased by the missle, he sets a garbage barge on fire.
This movies are fantastic (no pun intended), all jokes aside these two movies are a huge part of my childhood and have always been one of my biggest guilty pleasures
I do hold a soft spot for these F4 movies even though they are not great. Chris Evans' performance does a lot of the heavy lifting. Chiklis is great too.
Funny how people mock Chris Evans for his "horrible past in superhero movies" before Captain America, and the guy here is literally the best part of these cheesy lame flicks.
I remember when I was a kid I used to get scared of The Thing, but I eventually grew out of that and I ended up liking it. I know that a lot of people don't like these movies, but for me they're better than that reboot they try to do.
The point of Sue going invisible on the bridge just to lose it and become visible again was to show that they weren't proficient in their powers at that time.
I remember the promotions for this film were nuts. Sky writing the 4 logo over the beach like the Human Torch had done it. Might have been the second film actually but still pretty cool.
Quite true. One thing I really did not like however was in the sequel where they brought back Doom. The FF have a wide range of villains that they could have drawn from. Or they could have left the main villain as Galactus plus they lost an opportunity for an early introduction of The Watcher who was a pivotal character in the first story that introduced Galactus.

had this on CD watched all the time while playing the Xbox 360 game for a chunk of my childhood i must say rewatching this movie now knowing this is MCU canon has me very excited to rewatch with Reel Rejects it feels as if this movie has been rereleased
Currently this is the best F4 film. Aside from Dr. Doom, they nailed the casting choices and personalities of each of the family, especially Ben, he looked like he was ripped straight from the F4 comics. Even crazier Micheal Chiklis is in fact a big comic book fan and has mainly read F4 comics since he was a kid, he went so far as to making sure The Thing’s design was practical and even changed his voice to fit the raspy New Yorker accent The Thing sports in the comics
Always thought It was a shame that Ioan Gruffudd's Reed never got screen time with RDJ's Stark as I really enjoyed his take on Reed as well as Chris Evan's Johnny. Enjoyed this and the sequel, wondering how this cast would've been handled in the MCU (probably minus Jessica Alba) and still a slight hope of both and maybe Chiklis in MCU cgi appearing in Secret Wars or any other multiverse project. Would be kind of a nice send off for that era and canonization if not a validation to the MCU.
The camp in this movie is so fun and even 18 years later, it still is a great watch. The second one is just as campy and also a hoot to watch. I love that this movie (and other Marvel movies around this time) is filmed in my hometown in certain shots. In that first shot, with Victor's statue, is actually a mall and university campus. And knowing that it was filmed there, will never not be funny to me.
Honestly? This cast had so much chemistry and worked well together. With a better script and direction, they would've been iconic (although Chris Evans probably wouldn't have ended up portraying Captain America). I'm actually sad that we didn't get to see the actor of THIS Reed (Ioan Gruffudd) appear in Multiverse of Madness, instead of the Krasinski cameo. THAT would've been real fanservice.
Mr Fantastic's powers are surprisingly versatile tbh. Not only can he stretch 28:20, flatten & create all kinds of shapes w/ his body 35:4236:40 (like Elastigirl), he's acc also pretty much indestructible 31:37 (punches, bullets, explosions, etc can't harm him).
I remember being so excited when this came out. I actually really liked it as a teen but I never rewatched it haha. As fine as it is, it was fun with you guys! The parts that Greg remembered 🤣 Always love Tara's commentary and I had the same reaction to Maria Menounos 😆 Totally forgot she was in this. Excited for a reaction to Rise of the Silver Surfer, genuinely don't remember if I saw it lol. Thanks for the throwback. Love you guys🖤
Really nailed the casting of Mr fantastic and Doctor Doom. They truly nailed the roles and characters, hopefully they get cameos down the road now that the multiverse is open. Also they NEED to do the Council of Reed's at some point

Not only can he stretch 28:20, flatten & create all kinds of shapes w/ his body 35:42 36:40 (like Elastigirl), he's acc also pretty much indestructible 31:37 (punches, bullets, explosions, etc can't harm him).
This casting worked so much for me
13:30 everytime I see that scene I think of The Incredibles "he saved someone who apparently didn't want to be saved" then incoming lawsuit.
Love these re-watches of old movies. Keep it up guys!
You love to see it!
Really nailed the casting of Mr fantastic and Doctor Doom. They truly nailed the roles and characters, hopefully they get cameos down the road now that the multiverse is open. Also they NEED to do the Council of Reed's at some point
it's a good movie for 2000's era.... idk why people don't like it.
"She looks very familiar".. That's Andrea from The Walking Dead and she was in The Mist as well.
“What are you a dumbass? She put the ring on” man I almost choked😂
This movie was my childhood when I was 5 years old and I still love it
17:03 she played Andrea in The Walking Dead and Crimson Countess in The Boys
