I did a shoot there today and was informed by employees at two different stores that the published reports are misleading about the closing date. The employees indicated that the March 22nd is the date they must vacate the premises and have stores cleared out--however, the mall doors will be locked to the public on March 1st with February 29 being the mall's official last day in operation which will leave many surprised. It was really neat reading everyone's messages on the chalkboard and reminiscing with the mall walkers, explorers, and everyone else that was there today.

Top notch editing! A shame this and Stratford are going away this year along with potentially Golf Mill. 2024 not been a great start for Chicagoland retail

Aging myself. fond memories of Sam Goody, J.J Finigans,KAY-BEE toys, Riding The elevator of Carsons. Game stop & Radio shack. The smell of Mrs.Fields, the former food court in its glory. The candy store across from KB toys. The old school Disney store. Old Country Buffet, can't forget that.
Toys r' us before they tore it down. I could go on forever. Spring Hill and The H.I.P , core memories of family fun. My Mom hung here as teenager of the 80's as well. Sad to see..

You know, I'm not surprised at all that this mall closed for good. It's been struggling for years and I knew this day would come. The last time I was inside this mall was in 2018 just before my freshman year of high school... I bought a Rocko's Modern Life comic book at Barnes and Nobles. Anyway, I've had a lot of fond memories from this mall. Keep in mind, I cannot remember anything before 2.5/3, but I do have a ton of vivid memories from about 4 and older. One of those memories was a field trip in kindergarten to see Santa Claus and we ate at the food court (I still remember how delicious the Mexican place was). Pretty much in general, we would see Santa and the Easter Bunny... and do some shopping. But even back then, my mom preferred shopping at Woodfield. And being a child back then, I didn't see much of a difference and I liked both.
Although the mall began to see some decline when the Algonquin Commons opened, it still hung on a bit. I'd say when the anchors started closing, the mall went on a downward spiral. I watched this mall die over the years. People prefer shopping at Woodfield and the Algonquin Commons. Not to mention, the common sayings of online shopping circulates. And since the mall closed, they are going to turn it into apartments and other mixed retail... while keeping the Kohls and the movie theater (I like that movie theater, so it's good they're keeping it).

Fascinating to see these giant super malls suffering so poorly, while my local malls don't have enough room to grow. I live in Eugene, OR and all three malls are thriving.

This is heartbreaking. I've since moved away, but this is my mall, this was where everyone hung out in high school. I worked my way through ECC here. It's probably for the best and I hope the city puts the land to good use, but it's hard watching the things I grew up with slowly disappear.

I was shocked they announced they're closing, (Stratford is going to live them out by a hair!) They seemed to be doing good but actually seeing the walkthrough things seem pretty bleak. The couple of grand opening signs are such a punch in the gut especially. I hope the Beef A Roo on the out parcel sticks around, my husband is a Rockford area native and I appreciate having a closer location to home.

I grew up in the area but moved away a couple years ago. I was back last August, and it was in sad shape. It's sad seeing what happened to places I used to frequent as a child when I remember how busy they used to be. My mom used to work there too until The Disney Store closed in 2010.

In, Sterling Heights (a suburb of Detroit),and Lakeside Mall, opened in 1976. Lakeside Mall had 4 anchor stores. Lord &Taylor and Sears anchor stores has closed permanently. Leaving J.C.PENNEY AND MACY'S the only 2 anchor stores left. MACY'S which took over part of the Lord &Taylor Store. There is a few stores left in Lakeside Mall, 2 stores have Now Hiring Signs in the windows. And, 2 stores are having Store Closing Sales.
The City of Sterling Heights has bought Lakeside Mall. The City of Sterling Heights is going to demolish the Closed Sears Store and Lakeside Mall. J.C.PENNEY AND MACY'S WILL REMAIN AT LAKESIDE MALL, but separate Stores and will be remodeled. The City of Sterling Heights wants to redevelop the old Lakeside Mall and Sears Store into,Apartments, Restaurants, and Retail, open air shopping center. And, a Park with a small Lake. 17:18

I am at the mall walking on Mon, Wed, and Fri. When the mom and pop stores came a year ago I thought that could save the mall. Unfortunately most of them are open so few hours in a week there is no way for a customer to shop in them. :(

Another mall that never should have been built to begin with. West Dundee is a town 40 miles west of Chicago with a population of less than 10k people. It's always the same story. Public officials gave the developers sweetheart deals to build the mall. Free land to build on. Money for new roads and utilities, maybe even a new exit on the interstate highway. Plus the biggest perk, reduced or sometimes even no property taxes. The mayor and city council look like heros because they brought in this huge developed thats going to create lots of jobs. There's just one problem, every other town was doing the same thing. I onow nothing about this area but I'd be willing to bet the farm that there's two or three better newer malls within 20 miles of this one.
