Your sister is precious and I’m loving this series. If decluttering was easy none of us would have clutter. It’s an ongoing process and it’s a lifestyle - not a declutter once and done. She’s trying and the desire is there. She can do it! Rooting for her!! ❤
Yes! I continue to go through each room every six months or so and still seem to find things to get rid of. I think that we remember that we haven't used it and it is time to get rid of it. In the past I have been able to get rid of a tub of Christmas items a year for the last few years. This year I am going to get rid of anything that I don't put out.
My advice for your sister is to stop with all the supplements. you don't need supplements unless you have a deficiency. normal healthy food should have all the nutrients your body needs. I have an iron deficiency so I take extra iron only. I think you should try to look at it that way and not be afraid to let go of habits like that. I used to take all kinds of supplements as well, so it's a lesson I learned I want to pass on.
Agreed - I knew someone that took 100 supplements a day - her daughter had to take her to emergency when she was literally speaking gibberish- a very scary time …..
Two times a year my doctor checks my blood if I have any deficiency. I only take vitamin d all year Long because I have always a defiency but it depends in where you live. Your sister did a good job, sometimes in baby steps but your going forward 😊
It depends. I take a multi and have some things like turmeric and fish oil I take as well. I would definitely find only 5 that you want to keep and will help boost where you need to boost.
Everyone is different. I'm on a regime of multiple supplements and I'm miserable without them. If she's stockpiling and not taking them, that's different. If she's just getting because she can, it might be time to review them. Also, the standard American diet is far from adequate when it comes to nutrition.
Registered dietetian here: if you eat a healthy, balanced diet you do not need supplements, only maybe in the winter seasons to give a little boost. Yes, if you have deficiency then you should take those but don't forget, you CAN overdose on vitamins, etc. Be mindful and consult with a GP if you are unsure.
I think she should put together a “use it up” basket for herself. Collect 15 items and try and finish them in a month. I did it with beauty/bathroom items and it was fantastic to have that focus goal.
I did this too. And instituted a no new products until old ones are used up. I think especially with beauty products /skin care we can easily fall into the trap of collecting rather than using.
I started with small bottles, jars, samples and freebies we tend to get a lot of. They were in random bins and drawers and once all together it was a huge amount. It felt great to have that amount to see at once and just try them out. Some I loved, mini surprises to try, and discovered ones that had gone bad along the way. It cleared a lot of random items that tend to get pushed to the side.
@@shannonw6604 I agree. Grouping things together helped me to see problem parts too or areas that were easier to declutter. I had soooo much soap from gifts and got rid of 80% because I simply did not need.
I also buy smaller items that I know I can use up and won’t go to waste. We don’t always need the Costco size of products. I usually get travel size skin care which saves a little money too.
I think she needs to start asking herself how many calendar days it will take her to use up what she has. The amount of supplements that she has? Many of them will expire before she can even use them. That seems like a good opportunity to be ruthless and let a bunch of them go.
I came here to say the same thing. This is true of books, hobbies, and clothes. There are only so many hours in a day and days in a year. Many people have more clothes than they could ever wear in a year, or hobbies than what they can do in a year.
I would also recommend that she have a blood test to see where she is deficient vitamin/nutrient-wise - because the odds that she is deficient in ALL of those areas are slim.
When my siblings cleared out my parent’s home after they passed, I started my decluttering process in my home because I didn’t want to do that to my adult children.
Hello. I started decluttering after my mom passed too 😞. My mother had soooo much stuff and I don't want to have my kids go through that. Good luck on your decluttering process.
You, dahling, are speaking of the Swedish Death Cleanse. There's lovely videos on YT about that. I've started mine, too ( 61 yo ) and it's WAY more freeing than I ever thought it would be...and I considered myself a minimalist. 😂
Me also with my sisters. We still can’t believe the day the closed that it was empty. What a terrible and emotional journey. Now I’m doing mine. My mom was super organized. Nothing out, nothing messy. My dad had.tons of stuff placed strategically in closets, his desk etc. organized chaos. I’m the opposite, disorganized and messy😰
For advice she herself talked about doing a second round in the garage. That is wise, for everywhere: - First time you get rid of a lot of obvious things (trash, expired, never use) and you organise. - Second time you don't have to deal with (as much) mess and trash. Then you better have energy to make decisions about all the ok stuff: Which products/items are the best, and which ones don't you really care about? Do you use this thing enough to keep it? Do you use it at all? Are you realistically every going to? Do you really need this? Was this thing part of a fantasy self dream about what and who you could be, and it is time to let that go? One should declutter regularly. That is my best advice. It is not a one and done. If doing it along the way is too vague, then plan for once a month or once every half year.
Yes. I try to do it twice a year. During the holidays and in the summer. When I was growing up we would spring clean and that was a good time to declutter or at least organize. My rule of thumb is do first pass then a few months later revisit and if I haven’t used it then it needs to go away. Usually to donate because someone else can love it. I had filling up the landfills.
The reality is she will be able to "see" her stuff much more clearly once the house is fully decluttered and they tackle the garage again. Odds are the house will take another pass or two to get it fully dialed in (though not as much time as the first pass) because it will become more evident what is used/enjoyed and what is not now that all the visual distractions are being removed. It's also part of the decompression process - when someone has lived in a home packed to the gills, it takes a while to mentally/physically adapt to a new normal, just as it does for people who lose a significant amount of weight. So, if they can make it through the entire house for the first pass before Christmas, then follow up with round 2 first quarter of 2024 with a deeper cut/refinement, it will be much easier to let go of half the stuff in the garage.
My advice to your sister is to put all supplements in one area. Having some supplements here and some supplements elsewhere prevents you from understanding exactly how many you have and which may be expired. Getting too many duplicates of the same supplements just ensures that some will go to waste. Once they are in one place start calculating which will likely be used before they are expired. While they are still unopened and unexpired others could benefit from them or you'll just be disposing of them later.
She should have an honest discussion with her health provider about what if any supplements she needs. There are so many companies marketing crap. She needs to be better informed and educated. Also, I would suggest she and her family meet with a financial advisor, create a monthly budget, and stick to it. So much $$$$$ has been wasted with their impulse buying. A visual of spending can be very helpful. We have become a throw away society, and we are harming ourselves.
If she can use up what she has she will save so much money. I think an EveryDollar budget should be part of this journey so she can see how much money has been leaking from her household.
@@TheCarlaProject I was just thinking about this today when I saw several homeless people with carts of stuff, Americans are encouraged to buy an consume but honestly where does most of the stuff end up, in the garbage or on the streets making everything look trashy an dirty it's to much I've made a vow to not buy stuff I don't need, this culture of consuming is harmful an ridiculous
Hang in there, it didn't get cluttered over night, so nothing wrong with the declutter taking some time. You have made big choices, keep up the good work
I see it on Carla’s face every time the garage is suggested…. “Oh ok we will toss that later when we do the garage a second time”. There’s a slight eyebrow raise and dash of hope across her face. She even said it out loud once to her sister. 😂. I think it’s totally fair to have a single location as an “on hold” spot for things you aren’t ready to let go, and then go through it again when you have a good ruthless decision energy day.
Good point. I also said do another pass on the garage. And set aside things in some way to give certain items a use- it-or-lose-it by 6 months. And set a timer on her phone. If she hasn't used it, bye bye?
@@LindaQueLeendamy husband and I had the same issue. Now we put our change in a large plastic bottle. In a year or two we have enough saved for a mini getaway😊
Your sister is doing so well and you are amazing Carla! Maybe if your sister puts a small sticker on every item after she uses them and then she after 3-6 or even 12 months she will be able to visually see which items weren't used or needed. Also for the items that went to the garage (that you were pretty sure would never be used) maybe put them in a brown paper box with the date marked and if she hasn't thought about them in 6-12 months, don't open the box (it will be too tempting to keep everything) just take the box to a charity shop.
I did something like that in my closet. On Sept long weekend, i switched all the clothes on hangers backwards to how i usually hang them. Now when i wear, launder and re-hang an item, i hang them the right way. I know what i have used since Sept long weekend. Makes it easy to identify stuff i don’t use.
Your sister series has made me contemplate more the way money can disappear like sand between your fingers: On fantasies about who you are, being easily persuaded to buying every new gadget, "miracle" supplements, etc. I haven't made monthly budgets for a few years, but now I am back to it, and it is because of the series. I don't want to end up like your sister: mountains of stuff that I don't use, and no money.
I think your sister has more supplements and natural foods than any person I’ve ever seen. So brave of her to allow us in her home, her bedroom, her sanctuary. I’m not sure I could ever be that vulnerable or brave. ❤
The Dynamic Duo! 😃 Called her out on her dusty Bible! 😂😂 I absolutely love you and your sister! How special you are to help her in this way! She may struggle here and there but her decluttering muscles are getting stronger! Huge applause to her for all the work and dedication to the task!!!
I would suggest your sister uses the container concept for her suppliments, round up all of them from the whole house and only keep her favorites that will fit in that drawer. Knowing most will expire before she can use them anyway, maybe she can pass the rest to others that can make use of them. Great job though, its progress and from experience, it may take a few passes, finding confidence in realising she doesnt miss what she declutters.
Advice for your sister: if you had to move, would you want to take the time, energy and money to bring everything in your house with you? A take on the Swedish Death Cleaning method, but a bit nicer to think about. This has helped me so much! Hope it helps your sister ❤
yep, moving is the best way to learn how to declutter. I moved three times in the past 10 years, twice in a different country. I could only bring what could fit in my luggage. Once you go through that, you realize you don't need that much to live and you don't get attached to things that much. Love these videos but they also make me nervous because I'd literally get rid of everything lol
@@retagorman4351 Shelly is doing great. This is difficult and emotionally draining work. It may take her a few passes to make peace with discarding items, but she'll get there.
I love watching you and Sherry. They’re my favorite decluttering videos because she is so awesome. My advice would be she needs to talk to her primary care doctor or if there’s a nutritionist or dietitian available through her medical insurance she should have blood work done and have the professional tell her if she needs any supplements. I would be so afraid of the amount of different things she’s taking, if she’s actually taking them. Apparently she’s not even taking a lot of them and just because they’re free you don’t have to accept free stuff.
I think the fact that you and your sister can spend a couple of hours chatting with each other before decluttering is worth a thousand hours of actual decluttering.
Most supplements, do more harm than good in actuality. Don’t use yourself as a guinea pig! I think she would feel major relief if those were cleared out, except for the ones that she knows was helping her.
I am also a notebook/journal hoarder. I can't resist a beautiful book but I had probably 40 sitting in a box that I never used. I just loved the idea of using them. I decluttered more than half of them in the summer. Now I just remind myself that there will always be cute/beautiful/interesting notebooks. You don't have to have all of them - there will always be others.
Me too!! As someone with ADHD I was constantly on the search for the organizer/planner that would truly organize my life. Alas, I believe that does not exist. Now I use all the old ones I have as paper for my hand written to daily to do lists, which seems to be more effective. I am no longer buying planners at all. Not even tempted. lol
@@shannonw6604 yep! I don't have ADHD but same issue - thought a planner would solve my issues. HA! I do much better like you, just make to-do or goal lists. And I am finally using up my collection
"there will always be others" has honestly been such a helpful motto for me the last year. The world will never lack for cute products, and I can find one when I need that item.
My advice would be what legacy does she want to leave behind for her family? When she is gone, someone will have to take care of what is left behind. Will the things she has add value to their lives or weigh them down like her clutter is doing to her? Also, how much value has she removed from her own life by taking ownership of the things she has? Each item owned is another thing to take care of, another thing to think about. If she wants to truely understand the extent of her issue, she can write down every item she owns. The longer she does it the more exhausted she gets, the more pointless it feels to have these items. Letting go may become easier at that point.
Loving this series!! An idea for the supplements might be to gather all of them from the whole house, categorise them, and then have a goal of (for example) keeping half of each category. That way you can see how much of each category you have and then let go of the ones that are not so effective / not the favourite.
Your sister is a gem. I know how hard it is to let go of these thing. Definitely have her consider stop receiving these "FREE" supplements they are no necessary and if they are. Surely she has enough by now. Wonderful job girls.
I think your sister is very brave for even asking for help and it’s great you are giving her that start. It does seem like she’s not ready to do a thorough decluttering and that’s OK. I hope that when she watches this, she will see how much money was wasted in food and/or supplements that is expired and that will help her to limit her apocalyptic prepping. She could have gone on trips or paid some bills with that money. I think once a month she should go through her clothes, supplements or food and evaluate what needs to be kept. When you hoard so much stuff and are not willing to part with it, deep down that person feels organization is the problem, not excess and that there was a reason they bought that item and it was to use it. There are women’s homeless shelters that could use unexpired food, toiletries, etc. There are food banks that could use that unexpired food. During the pandemic, I decluttered my home- food, clothes, shoes, everything. I was at first overwhelmed so I would do most of the work on the weekends. It took me about a year to complete. I had paycheck stubs from 1995-2021! All gone and shredded. I got rid of 70% of my clothes and shoes. It took patience and talking to myself and even if something still has tags on it to let it go if it’s been a year and not worn. The women in the shelters in my area have greatly benefited. I’ve also given things to family members and friends.
The supplements drawer is an amazing idea with it displayed that way! Great job once again! It will give her so much more peace in her bedroom to not have to stare at the clutter on the shelf. But...I do feel that she should find more ways to let go of most of those supplements, as there are entirely too much for one person to take. Also, if she takes any medications, review those medications for any supplements she shouldn't take while taking those medications, as they can cause issues when combined. Thank you for the inspiration and again, I love that you're helping your sister and family get to a relaxing, calm home.
Don't just buy supplements. Go ask your doctor what your body actually needs and only take that. It'll be a lot healthier than taking whatever. I love this series, you guys are precious and even inspired me to declutter my own home. Keep up with the good job and good luck ❤
I love your sister. I love that she wants to go through the garage again. Like you said, changes like this takes lots of time and lots of pass throughs. Going through the same area multiple times means it'll get less cluttered. I think that's great!
You two should plan a weekend trip once all is said and done. Something to look forward to would make me want to get thru it all!!! Loving this series!!! Go sis!!!
It took me 10 months to declutter 2 of my rooms! Mind you: I didn't do everything in one go. I had to take a lot of breaks over that period of time and during summer I didn't even touch any of the stuff at all! It was so overwhelming at times. I kind of worked in shifts 😅Decluttering is so much more than just clearing out space. The whole organisation and planning (where to bring stuff and than taking it to these places etc the cleaning and dusting and tidying... 😳) It's physically and emotionally draining. However: I got there in the end and both rooms are decluttered and spacey now and I love the results. I had made the goal to finish my project this year. That's what kept me motivated and going. And yes Carla: your sister should be more ruthless. But I guess that comes with practise 😊😊I think she has been doing really well so far though. You guys worked so hard✊🏻👍🏻you go girls❤🫶🏻🙋🏻♀️
It took me a YEAR to finally clear out our basement😂😂😂😂 it's basically just one room (I live in a multistorey building and each tenant has an allotment in the basement) but for the reasons you mentioned it just takes some momentum to do the different steps involved. I am technically still not done as I need to do another trip to the landfill to get rid of some stuff you can't throw away in the usual trash (turpentine, lacquers) but it's all at a level where everything has a home for now and there's plenty of space.
50 items in 2 hours is really good for someone who learning how to get rid of clutter. Through this process you are letting go of the past, and learning to live for today and that is a process that takes time.
maybe one thing for your sister to try is to use storage spaces as a visual limit of what she can keep. so for supplements for example, if it doesn't fit in the drawer she can't keep it. love the work so far thanks for sharing with us the process :) she's doing great
Yes. The one in one out strategy. Just did that with my bathroom declutter. Empty bottles and jars and expired products cluttering up my countertop. Just reordered products that I will actually use. No multiples. Even if it’s on sale. I only do that with personal care items like toothpaste and cleaning products.
Decision fatigue is real. I think she’s going at a great pace. She’ll enjoy having more space and be okay letting more go next time. I love the cha-ching sound every time something is let go lol.
Hi Carla 😀 You are doing such a wonderful job helping your sister to declutter and organize her house. Is a process, but a clutter free house is bringing so much peace.
Without meaning to be rude in anyway, my best advice would be for your sister to cancel whatever deal she has with the supplement company/ies. I don't know if she gets paid for the reviews and if that might be a factor in wanting to continue (understandable), but if not, maybe just knock it on the head. It would be beneficial just in terms the space gained, but also, I don't see how anyone can give a good review of so many supplements without testing them in an extremely regimented, highly documented way - which sounds like way too much work! The only other advice/mindset is that I think of space as a luxury - it's what a lot of us don't have. Empty space is not a lack of anything, it's a bonus. Love to you and your sister - she's lovely x
she has thought of leaving the program. it has all these perks and benefits outside of the supplements but yea.... it is a tough decision but she is considering it! ❤
My advice would be for her to pay attention to what she actually uses and enjoys. The “what if” and “someday” scenarios will bury you. And to spend 15 minutes per day decluttering. It’s amazing the impact of small, daily efforts.
My advice to your sister: well done! just keep going like this 😊have a vision, collect pictures on your phone with rooms that you like, and how you would love your rooms to look like...and then just enjoy the process of decluttering, don't rush...
You could try the container concept that Dana K White recommends. Your sister can be allowed so much space for her supplements, and all that will fit is all she can keep! That might help!
Oh my goodness your sister does not look her age! The fact that someone her age is going through her entire home to let go of things to allow her and her family more peace and freedom is such an inspiration! Good job!
I gotta say the videos of decluttering your sister’s home (any room doesnt matter) is my fav videos. Her being in the videos is what makes it funny and entertaining to watch 😂
I know the prepper mentality. My husband and his family are just like that as well and I have to fight hard to keep clutter to a miniimum. One thought, that always comes to my mind is: how can you be prepared for anything, if you don't even know, what is actually in your house/appartement? Also: what do you actually like to use? No matter if it is make-up, supplements, clothes or whatever else, if the thought: I don't like that comes into your head, it's time to say goodbye. Mind you, you don't have to get rid of essentials of course, but the rest?
But the prepper mentality is not the same as a hoarder mentality. Prepper mentality would be something like setting up a goal to have 1 year worth of food on hand, not 30 years worth; it is also about learning skills that allow you not to rely on convenience items (i.e. learning to can/preserve food, make your own bread, grow your own herbs/fruits/veggies, etc.). The challenge here is that she is willing to try new things/new tools, etc. - which is a great attribute - but she didn't get rid of/donate the items she didn't like/weren't useful or return them if they failed to deliver as marketed, etc. So the beneficial things got buried under the visual/physical weight of the unbeneficial. So, she needs to shift into consuming her inventory and replenishing it as needed to reduce waste.
From each video there has been lots of projects/tasks come up in talk. I think you should go back and write each one down to tackle. Example: hooks for curtains , security camera install, donate markers to school, paint wall, lightbulbs to garage. You could really build up a good focus board and start tackling away those jobs you mention.
I wish your sister the joy of experiencing months without spending, discovering how the money saved can empower her to choose great experiences over material stuff. Certainly, after all this work, both of you sisters definitely deserve to do something special together and share wonderful experiences. Thank you for sharing your journey, and keep it up. ❤
I have been on a slow declutter for the past few years and take ideas and tips from all sources. The idea behind the Swedish death declutter has worked best for me, as when I decide to go through family treasures I keep what I like and then offer the items to my children next. I ask them to come look at the stuff, make their decision and take it there and then, if not it is donated. I also bought three plastic containers and sorted personal photos into them and gave the kids their own . Decluttering takes time , just as the stuff in the home didn't just appear overnight, baby steps, baby steps
I think your sister should lock her doors and turn out all the lights when she sees your car pull up! 😂 Seriously though, she really is doing a great job even though it may seem painful. Keep up the good work. You are both an inspiration!
I started decluttering because of you and im so happy. You two are so cute together. Where's Sampson? I must see him every video.😂😂 I'm a reformed supplement junkie. My advice to her would be to narrow it down to 6 she takes every day. I looked at the ones I reached for constantly due to deficiencies....out of 28 supplements, I only used 6 consistently. The others were expired or just taking up space so i threw them out. It was a pain to realize I wasted about $300.
Something that helped me in my decluttering process was to stop things from coming into my home (purchases, subscriptions, free things, junk mail, donated items, and gifts from others). Also, everything needs its proper place and a limit on how much space that item can occupy. Once it's full, one in one out rule comes into play. Your sister is doing great! ❤
Advice: write the date bought and date opened on every bottle, this makes it more obvious how little used an item has been. use a weekly pill box to make up the supplement regimen in advance to encourage actually taking them.
It’s such a joy to see you sisters both together spending time together, laughing and just being human- it touches my heart. So great that you started supporting eachother in your own specific way.
Decluttering a bedroom feels more personal. This is your sister’s personal space. I think she’s getting better and better at letting go. The comment about another video on further decluttering in the garage is a case in point. She is ready for another pass. It’s such an iterative process. I’m loving the sister series ❤❤❤
I think putting all the supplements from around the house out together and looking at them as a whole might help, but you two are so rocking it. I mean seriously, bedroom stuff is just so hard to go through. It's more personal somehow. Love the series.
My husband and I moved into our new house we built. There are projects to do still unfinished because we were exhausted and needed a break. Now we need to save money again anyway so we made the commitment of working through projects we already bought the materials for. We already see that stuff in general gets literally worked away and we already have more space in general. So for me its all about the commitment of ending projects i have started i realized. ❤ From Austria!
My advice to your sister is what I have been doing when decluttering my whole apartment: I keep reminding myself of the feeling of having less stuff to manage and clean every day (i will have more energy and calm in my life), and how much time will be freed up; and what i want to do with that time instead 😊
After downsizing to a smaller house my biggest advice to give your sister is to have things in only one place and keep like with like. All medications and supplements are in ONE place, anything paper such as bills, office supplies etc is in one desk, all craft things are in one cabinet. It's the only way to keep things organized and know what you have.
I used to be a bit of a supplement junkie. Here's the sad truth! They are expensive and most of them don't do all of the wonderful things they promise! A true waste of money and plastic!
Remind your sister that her state of mind will improve with every round of declutter. I can already see her quicker decision making and her willingness to be done with things. Peace with her life and things will be her reward ❤
I think once she declutters the first time and everything is organized she may go back to declutter overflow areas. She's doing a great job so far and has come a long way. Anyone who has decluttered always goes back when there done to see what else you don't need or use😊
Holy supplements, Batman! I would figure out what I'm actually taking and what would expire before I could use it up. Then, even if it's not expired, it can be donated for someone to use. The top of the armoire looks amazing! The best declutter yet! 💖 Just because you have some extra space somewhere, doesn't mean you need to keep something. 🙂
That was fun and motivating. We all just love your sister and appreciate her opening her home to us. I love paper planners, journals, pads of paper, calendars, and smooth writing pens.
When I began decluttering I thought I would miss every little thing I was getting rid of….you know what…I can’t even remember what they were now! I’m enjoying seeing and actually using all the things I already have. It’s like pulling off a bandaid…do it quick and get it over with! Your sister can do this! I feel so good after I spend a few hours clearing things out, everything I keep feels so brand new to me. I do know I will revisit things and probably let more go but it’s like I want to do this in layers and I feel ok about it. Thank you again for being so positive and funny and caring with your sister.
My advice is something you have mentioned before, make sure everything has a place. And the more you exercise your decluttering muscles, the easier it will become. Declutter something every day. That will make you more mindful of what you bring into the house too. When you see that you just threw out 3 notebooks, you're leas likely to buy more.
Maybe getting labs checked would be an eye opener as to what is actually needed regarding supplements. My dr always said a well balanced diet doesn’t need supplementation unless deficient in something. Other then that, “like with like” and “one home for everything” is what Andrew Mellen suggests and it looks like you have that nailed. 😊 Thank you again for allowing us to watch Sherry’s journey. Every little bit is progress and she’s doing such a great job! 💕
I really think Sis should make a list of the supplements she is taking, how often, and the dosage and show her Dr. on the next visit. Her health could very well depend on it. ❤
Sometimes it’s all the small things that take the longest. It’s ok. Better not to push too hard. You’ll avoid a potential shut down. Loving this series with your sister.
Your sister is a champ!! She’s doing an incredible job letting go of so much ❤. I have to say this has been such an inspiring series to me. I’m 57 and currently getting rid of 95%-98% of everything I own (which is a LOT). I have stage 3 cancer and need to sell my home of 17 years to pay for more treatments….(I’ve already drained my retirement accounts). I’m TRYING to stay positive and think of how much less time I’ll spend cleaning and organizing without my lifetime of belongings (much of which I’ve “inherited” from lots of different family members over the years). In all honestly tho’ having to get rid of everything has been very depressing and completely overwhelming so far. Maybe the peace will come afterwards? Oh how I wish I had a sister like you to come and help me, I’m having to do it completely alone as I live pretty rural. I’m trying to pack what I’m keeping in Rubbermaid tubs and calling an auction house to auction off my antiques, furniture, yard equipment, dishes, and lifetime of funky art I’ve collected, etc. etc. I’m having such a hard time of letting go of the sentimental stuff (which is everything at this point)… Thank you both for doing this great series. It has emotionally helped me more than any other decluttering series/book/podcast etc. I think because your sister seems so relatable to me…. ❤. Bless you gals! I look forward to your next video!
Bless you on your journey. You are doing well facing up to very tough issues. The cancer alone would be slaying for many but major decluttering on top of that. Wow! Give yourself a pat on the back.❤🙏to you
Love hearing you and your sister laugh, you both have a great laugh. Your patience is to be rewarded dear Carla. Your sister is moving along so that's progress, good for her.
I find spaces like that do take a long time, since there are so many small pieces, and in this case many categories. It looks a lot nicer. I'm loving the series with you two.
I give her lots of credit. She even has been doing some on her own before you visit. I think she needs to make sure that every new supplement that comes in an old one goes out. I am on the last week of decluttering with friends for the month of November. We have been getting rid of the number of items the day of the month is. It has been so freeing. I did this a year ago and after a year I realize a lot of the items I once wanted to keep I no longer want to.
True dat. I personally find getting the stuff out of the home to be the hardest part 😂 there's many items I have like old board games that would simply be a shame to throw away but I also don't want to donate them? Sigh.
So true! I love the reward of opening a closet and seeing a pretty, orderly space. I even "decorate" my closets and shelves with nice colors, baskets, and small artwork.
Long ago I refused to accept free things🌻Free things are never free, they take up your space, your time and eventually you will throw them out. If I don't accept them in the first place, I don't feel burdened by them. I think that your lovely sister needs to be more ruthless, but maybe she will become so in time. She's doing pretty good.
LOL @ "we're going to stop right here while we're still talking to each other" LOL!!! I love the counter for the decluttered items - nice touch. You looked like you were playing Tetris with the supplements. Good job! You're a great sister for helping her regain control of her house. I'm loving this series! And your sister is 75??? She's definitely taking those supplements! It's a great Sunday when there's a Carla video waiting for me. :) :) :) -Lety from Chicago
I highly recommend Dana K. White’s container concept in this case. She has a book Decluttering at the Speed of Life, as well as a RUclips channel, but the basic concept is this: the space you have is the space you have. Establish a container/shelf/cabinet as a boundary for each item, only keep your faves, and toss the rest.
Also, hear me out, how about a one year shopping freeze 🥶, including pantry items and consumables, like beauty products, toiletries, etc….decluttering is only half the battle. I’ve done it before. I think I’m gonna do it again starting January. Definitely something to consider ❤
Really enjoying this series. Your sister has come a long way! 👏🏼 Advice: 1. try a NO SPEND challenge for at least 6 months. 2. Restart decluttering (second pass) in 6-9 months to get rid of more things.
Your sister demonstrates courage each and every time she makes a decision. It's a journey and whether it's 10 or 100 items out the door, it's progress. Keep being awesome ladies! A good lesson in timing planning. Smaller items always take longer to go through. Think about the # of items (aka decisions) rather than space. It would be great in a few months for follow-up/reflections -if anything has changed. I'm invested! Thanks so much for sharing xx
I get excited to watch the videos with the 2 of you! Your sister is brave and is doing great. I agree that she needs to be able to let go of more in order to affect more organization. That in no way was meant to be critical as she has started the process. Maybe you 2 will have a whole part 2 series as you go through all of these spaces a second time. Good job sisters!
Your sister is so awesome for decluttering with you and letting it be filmed and put on yt! She is doing so amazing I'm like actually shocked at her progress!! Decluttering warrior family!! 🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏🤜🏿🤛🏼
Just keep going through those layers! I know it’s a lot of work to keep going through stuff, but sometimes we just need to live with less to know that we were okay and can keep going

That's a really good idea
This is the best declutter series.
100%
I think she needs to start asking herself how many calendar days it will take her to use up what she has. The amount of supplements that she has? Many of them will expire before she can even use them. That seems like a good opportunity to be ruthless and let a bunch of them go.
I came here to say the same thing. This is true of books, hobbies, and clothes. There are only so many hours in a day and days in a year. Many people have more clothes than they could ever wear in a year, or hobbies than what they can do in a year.
Love this idea
That’s a wonderful idea!
That was a usefull thing for me with stopping me from buying makeup and skincare. If it takes me 2 years to use up a blush, I don't need 5 of them
I would also recommend that she have a blood test to see where she is deficient vitamin/nutrient-wise - because the odds that she is deficient in ALL of those areas are slim.
Ditto!
Yes! If you’re interested, the concept of Swedish death cleaning may help as you continue this process.
That is wise, for everywhere:
- First time you get rid of a lot of obvious things (trash, expired, never use) and you organise.
- Second time you don't have to deal with (as much) mess and trash.
Then you better have energy to make decisions about all the ok stuff:
Which products/items are the best, and which ones don't you really care about?
@@AB-ol5uz Yes exactly. You understood my comment well. Well rephrased in your own words.
Totally agree!!
Taking any supplements that your Dr. doesn't know about can be very dangerous. Lots of them interact with your medications.

@@TheCarlaProject You're welcome and I'm sure you'll share my comment with your sister, she is blessed to have you to help her thru the process
@@TheCarlaProjectwe can watch this for a looong time. So no rush. 😉 😂
I love that your sister suggested another pass at the garage - I'm sure that would be really helpful!
You are both such good people. My advice is basically agreeing with you - refuse all free samples.
Yes! I'd also say buying things on Clearance that you don't really Love.
What a great idea!!! Like a reality check on what is actually useful.
Great ideas! I'm using this! Thank you for sharing!
These are great suggestions!!
I have done this idea with spices. After a year I was able to get rid of the ones I hadn’t used.
I actually feel joy when it's a video with your sis💕
same, I love this series so much!
Me too!!!
Your sister is awfully brave in my opinion . I don’t know if I could be on you tube with all my stuff. 😊❤
So glad that she is sharing her journey. She is helping and inspiring many of us.❤️
she's amazing for sharing and helping a LOT of people!
@@TheCarlaProjectYesss agreed!!! I’m just loving your channel & you two sweet sisters❤. Thank you for being so real & Awesome!!!!!

Love this series with your sister!❤️
Agreed!
We love this.... keep on decluttering g/f!!!
The way she saves garbage...yes she would take everything. Right down to the dust bunnies.
yep, moving is the best way to learn how to declutter.
@@retagorman4351I believe Carla has prefaced this series by instructing viewers to keep our comments kind, or keep it moving. Please remain kind.
Such a good question thanks for this!!
Yes to this!
@@shannonw6604THIS is me too.. 😅
"there will always be others" has honestly been such a helpful motto for me the last year. The world will never lack for cute products, and I can find one when I need that item.
@@EmilyEmilyEmily01 We live and learn. LOL Sometimes simples best.
Absolutely agree!!! Too many supplements all over the place.
Go sis!!!
we should! as a reward!!
@@Smittenhamster 😃👍🏻🫶🏻🙋🏻♀️
yes thank you for giving a realistic view of what it is like from someone on the other side. this is exactly it!!
14 years later, I am so much further along, and still not there yet. Many waves has made a huge difference though. Largely maintenance at this point.
I do this for the things that can get out of control and it helps a lot. Not just limiting the amount but contains it and keeps it organized as well.
I love your sister! Your videos with her are my fav! 😊
Mine too. I’m actually smiling as I watch this.
Decision fatigue is real. I think she’s going at a great pace. She’ll enjoy having more space and be okay letting more go next time.
I love the cha-ching sound every time something is let go lol.
Hi Carla 😀
You are doing such a wonderful job helping your sister to declutter and organize her house. Is a process, but a clutter free house is bringing so much peace.
My advise would be Stop spending money on crap. Cluttering your mind and life. You are doing a great job of letting “things” go.
Carla!!!! You did it. Over 70k followers!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
soooo cool!!! thank you😍❤
You could try the container concept that Dana K White recommends. Your sister can be allowed so much space for her supplements, and all that will fit is all she can keep! That might help!
Your sister has a huge heart and we all love these videos.
You could really build up a good focus board and start tackling away those jobs you mention.
ok i love this YES!! a project management list. thank you!!
LOL!! She started this and now there is no stopping this train 😂
I started decluttering because of you and im so happy. You two are so cute together. Where's Sampson? I must see him every video.😂😂
I'm a reformed supplement junkie.
Thank you to your sister in letting us into her home she is starting the process. Good job.
It’s such a joy to see you sisters both together spending time together, laughing and just being human- it touches my heart. So great that you started supporting eachother in your own specific way.
I call this...VICTORY!!! Keep clobbering it!! The more you go through, the more momentum you acquire!!❤
She is really starting to improve with decluttering and her house shows it. She really is a sweetheart and so are you.
❤ From Austria!
i have so many unfinished projects! that is my worst clutter i am still working through...❤
My advice to your sister is what I have been doing when decluttering my whole apartment:
I keep reminding myself of the feeling of having less stuff to manage and clean every day (i will have more energy and calm in my life), and how much time will be freed up; and what i want to do with that time instead 😊
Cleaning is so much easier with less stuff taking up space. It’s so freeing.
great reminders yes !
Not only are these videos motivating me to organize my aunt’s apartment but your humor brings me so much joy.
Anyone who has decluttered always goes back when there done to see what else you don't need or use😊
true. took me several passes and i still can let go of more.
I love your sister...so sweet and humble and not defensive when you make recommendations.
Omg having all that stuff is exhausting!!!
She doubled the goal of 50 items to get rid of which definitely is no easy feat 🎉.
Especially love the videos with your sister! There is always room for laughter💙
I’m trying to pack what I’m keeping in Rubbermaid tubs and calling an auction house to auction off my antiques, furniture, yard equipment, dishes, and lifetime of funky art I’ve collected, etc. etc. I’m having such a hard time of letting go of the sentimental stuff (which is everything at this point)…
Thank you both for doing this great series.
Wow! Give yourself a pat on the back.❤🙏to you
@@pegjessen1572 thank you! 💖
She did great. That’s still a lot of stuff out the door! 🎉
Love hearing you and your sister laugh, you both have a great laugh. Your patience is to be rewarded dear Carla. Your sister is moving along so that's progress, good for her.
Definitely be more ruthless ! Your sister is a sweet lady, and you are a saint to help her!
I did this a year ago and after a year I realize a lot of the items I once wanted to keep I no longer want to.
i love that reminde of the one in one out. yes!!
Be ruthless and let it go girl!! You can do it!!!💛💖
It’s OK. Decluttering is never done. Once you start you can never stop. The more you do it the better you get at it and the more you can get rid of.
Doing great ladies! Can’t wait to see even more progress ❤ Inspiring!
I’m like that too but instead I bless someone else with it.
Your gentle and patient way of decluttering with your sister is going to be my model with my husband.
What is it about planners and paper that is so satisfying? I love a good notebook or planner!! Keep up the good work, Carla!!
These videos with your sister are my favorite. You girls got this!
I think she was joking about that, like that’s how much the supplements were helping?
I love a good declutter and your sister is so brave to put this on RUclips. Kudos to her and kudos to you for helping with such patience.
U and your sister are hilarious!!! She is doing a great job😊
Advice: 1. try a NO SPEND challenge for at least 6 months.
