@@TheCarlaProject Carla, I really like your kitchen declutters and I think you can be proud of you.
Every time I can see your kitchen countertop, I wonder why you put the blue pot at the spot where you work the most and therefore it's the most precious space on the counter? I understand, that you like to look at the nice blue pot, but couldn't you move it *just a little bit more to the left*, where there is space that you don't need for food prep etc.? More towards the corner? In my opinion that would be a better place for a rather bigger decorative item on the countertop.

I find it so cool to see your progress in the kitchen. Liked that you showed a short throwback sequence of you two years ago. A lot of memories came back (the spice jars with the label maker, the new floor and the different wall paint colors, the organizing projects with containers, that you started to drink coffee, the new curtains...) Greetings from Germany.

I LOVE that you do practical decluttering and organizing using things you already own, not trying to make a pinterest perfect space but a common usable space. You help so many people, showing the real concept and that you don't have to spend money to organize and declutter.

My neighbor set up a little pantry box in front of their place - basically just a wooden box with a roof and a sign that says 'take what you need, leave what you don’t '. I love it because it makes decluttering small items that aren't worth posting on buy nothing so easy. Kitchen items, but I've also put in new dog toys that I don't need, shampoo I don't like the smell of...anything that still has a useful life but I don't want. I've also picked up things like travel size toothpaste there, for some reason someone was giving away 10. It's great, I hope the idea spreads.

Star Rescue Resale Store in Sherman Oaks is a GREAT place to donate items!
There’s a resale shop that benefits an animal rescue in my neck of the woods in San Diego that I always donate my decluttered gently used clothes and decor, etc.
I feel like it feeds two birds with one seed because the money they receive from sales of donations goes to keeping the rescue running! 💕
Proud of you for getting it all out of the house at the end! My trunk is currently full and has been for a few days…

Honey never expires. Unless its mixed with something. I was looking for you today. So far, I have made up a bag of 12 tops and 2 bottoms. And 2 gym shoes two dress shoes and 2 boots. All these are going to the Psych Unit ER. I heard they are discharging people who came from shelters and now have no clothes to wear when discharged. BTW, as a trombonist, I am loving the solo.. plus you have inspired me to make a whole tea area. Thank you!

We're on the same page Carla! I just pulled all kinds of crazy stuff out of my freezer! A lot of it was freezer burnt, such a shame. My 2 adult daughters live with me, and they tend to stuff things in corners and forget about them. I'm hoping to get them to see how much waste is costing them. I would like to go into the new year with organization and less waste!!! Big hugs to your sister, she is so brave to not only clean out her stuff, but also to let us all see! She's adorable, and I love her!

You hit the nail on the head- things change. What you need and can actually use changes. I am a hoarder of jars and have little by little been recycling the 'excess' (the definition of 'excess' is slowly evolving, but I'm getting there). I reuse wide mouth jars especially for fridge storage of leftovers or batch prep veggies, grains, and beans; and narrow, relatively short jars for the spice wall (I literally have an entire narrow wall of spices which is slowly being purged of outdated and duplicate jars). Reassessing needs from time to time (maybe even twice a year instead of once) can help keep the overwhelm of de-stash/de-clutter down to a dull roar.

    • @TheCarlaProject
      @TheCarlaProject  9 месяцев назад

good point about the different width jars. i never thought of that but i love wide mouth jars and my fave is a giant pickle jar... i used to drink iced tea out of that and i don't know what happened to it!

Supplements fascinate me. I only used folic acid and iron tables during pregnancy prescribed by the doctor.
There are so many, how do you know what needs supplementing, do they work, are they just a placibo like mind over matter.
While you were helping your sister I was just amazed at the amount she had also.
I didn't grow up in a supplement taking family. Maybe I would be more open to it if I did 🤔

Honey never expires. It might crystallize, but it’s still good. They’ve excavated tombs with honey, and the honey was fine! It’s a law in the US to put expectation dates on all items, and because this is a consumer country, they often label items as expires long before it goes bad. Honey and most spices don’t expire. Spices might loose their flavors, then you can compost. I noticed you don’t compost any food. There must be community gardens you can take food waste.

You know your blue "splatter bowl"? It's lovely! Consider propping it up and leaning it on the wall behind (if that is safe) so you can enjoy the design of it. It will also free up some shelf space. I just rewatched this. Inspired to get a few more items out today.

There's always *something* that needs to go! Decluttering comes so naturally to me now, especially in high-use areas like the kitchen and bathroom. Every once in awhile I find items that hung around well past their usefulness, but not too often. The closet remains my big project always, with seasonal decluttering and annual reorganizing.

I think I’ve come to realize my issue with being consistent with decluttering is how I’m contributing to the landfill… I recycle, but I know that not everything gets recycled and I have done some major decluttering. I spent a week feeling guilty for things that I threw in the trash. I need to figure out how to overcome this because I want declutter, but I’m also very sensitive about the impact that I leave on the planet.

I’m exactly the same about jars. I decant ‘stuff’ from original jar into smaller, keepable jar when I’ve used so much of it and then recycle the bigger jar. My husband asks how I know what’s in it or the expiry date. I put it on a piece of tape and stick it on the jar. Doh.

Hello! I just found out about your channel. It was in my recommended feed. But I just found out and wondered if you knew, 'natural, properly preserved honey will not expire.' archeologists found honey thousands of years old in ancient Egyptian tombs, and it was still good. But the faux stuff obviously will expire. I love your vintage stove! Is it gas? The silver vase you kept looks like it needs to be polished. Thank you for the inspiration. I have a few cupboards and a butler's pantry that needs some deep decluttering. Also, did you know, 'Most vitamins are considered safe for up to two years past their expiration date (unless they contain mold), but may become less potent over time.' Something I just learned. LOL Oh my goodness your furbaby is so funny!

But good for you you got this I have to do that to my dining table. I have been busy all week with a family funeral helping them out attending just helping helping helping and I am glad I’m home because when I’m home I can do things around the house if I’m constantly busy I’m in and out of the house ignoring things and I think my dining table becomes the catchall so I need to go through it. I have a lot of boxes that I need to get rid of Just clutter a lot of that is stuff. My stuff is recycle.

I declutter Christmas decorations as I decorate. I get them quickly to a thrift store so they can sell them. Give those supplements and powders to other friends then you can declutter them from their homes later. Hahaha! I am going to declutter crafts and sewing items in January.

Amazing job! 💖 You are so minimalist already in your kitchen, but you got rid of so much! I did my kitchen about 2 weeks ago. Got rid of quite a bit also. Mostly food. Already pretty minimal when it comes to other stuff. You and I have about the same cupboard space, aka- not much. 😄

The most difficult part for me to declutter is the kitchen. My closet and rest of the house is very organized, however my kitchen 😩 cause I cook a lot I’m also a chef professionally so having tools and condiments is important for anytime I’m experimenting a new recipes. I’m actually watching this video to get motivated and do some declutter: I started today and so far I have not find anything to let go. HELP HELP

It’s good to share the things you don’t use with family or friends. I do not anymore because most will not say no free stuff and it then becomes clutter in their home. It still gets wasted whether I throw it out now or they throw it out later.
