A fairly small level crossing with quiet alarms located just off of the A22 in Whyteleafe just to the south of London. It is located next to Whyteleafe South Railway Station, one of three railway stations serving the area (two of which are on the Caterham Branch Line with one (Upper Walringham) on the Oxted Line) within three quarters of a mile of each other. Within only two months or so of this video being filmed, the small GWE barriers which gave this level crossing a unique charm have been replaced by much newer SPX Rail Systems variants, though these are also quite short with four being used again. This the only thing that has changed here since my last visit seven months prior, but it's quite significant as the barriers seem very fresh and brand new.
Videos seen in this video were filmed within half an hour of each other.
Thanks for watching! Авто/Мото
Great video! Glad they kept the same setup here when the barriers were renewed 👍🏻
Thank you! Whilst it's just not the same without its previous barriers, it is nice to know that it still has four short barriers at least.
Awesome 👍👍👍
Thanks very much!
Nice, even the lights are pretty new
Thanks!
The lights themselves date back to April 2015. The masts supporting them were renewed fairly recently though, and they were practically brand new last time I visited there around seven months prior.
Brilliant video mate 👍👍
Thanks!
Thanks for the update showing the new Mk2 (843) pedestals/barriers and road-light posts. Interesting video! - It would be interesting to know if both the Whyteleafe crossing will continue to be controlled locally or whether, like Littlehaven they will be re-controlled by Three Bridges signal box.
Thanks for the nice comment! I don't know where these crossings are controlled from currently.
The control point for both the Whyteleafe crossings is within a room in the local station buildings
@@kevinleech6335 Thanks for the info! :)
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad barriers
good video at least
It's just not the same. I always knew this for its short, old barriers, and now they're gone.
Thanks btw!
Great video! RIP to those old GWEs though. With the new gates and the new masts for the lights, the crossing honestly looks like a very freshly replaced one, lol.
Thank you! 👍👍
I get what you mean. It does seem very fresh. I like how it's still got four short barriers and its previous alarms
Motorists can't win here, can they? In one direction trains tail back across the crossing and in the other direction the crossing has to close well before the trains reach the station.
I've always noticed trains to overhang here. The barriers could easily be lowered when the train is between Whyteleafe Station and Whyteleafe South Station, as all trains stop at both.

I know right. Shame to see the GWEs go from here.
