Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will multiply and may produce poisons that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. So the longer the rice was left the more likely it is that poisons produced could stop the rice being safe to eat.

Usually they have a best before date and also a used by date. I think some people think that they’re the same thing. I’ve ate plenty of food that are out of date, if it’s gone bad you would know by the smell. X
My rule is: if it smells weird/tastes weird (even a tiny bit) then i dont eat it if its out of date, if it tastes normal it can be a few days after the expiration date and im still gonna eat it, we have our own natural machines to tell which food is bad and which is not and so far it never lied to me

All the good stuff got ate first ha. But it tasted completely fine and I’m fine today. Some supermarkets used to, I worked for one years ago and they used to donate food to the local homeless charity but then they kicked off because couple of the items wasn't fresh as it should be (a honest mistake) and tried suing. So now it all goes in the bin including stuff that's perfectly good such as bottled drinks, packaged cupboard stuff
When I worked at Sainsbury’s during Sixth Form, I was responsible for the reductions and did three sets of reductions, 25% at lunch time, 50% at around 6-7pm and 75% at 9pm! :) Great video Taz, very jealous of the vegan M&S food!
One thing I would say is waitrose's reductions are huge. I've had entire ready meals for 70p before, maybe you could try waitrose reduce food. (I myself am not too well of but I find that they're not as expensive as people think)

I've heard that one should trust one's senses if you're not sure wether the food is still good to eat or not: 1. Does the food look off/good? 2. Does the food smell off/normal? 3. If the food seems to be good, taste a little bit (but only if it doesn't look & and smell off). Does the food taste normal?
I work at a Waitrose and our store doesn't work in the way you may think it is, we don't put out all of our food at one go. We reduce throughout the day - we have weeklys and dailys. Later in the day we do fruit and veg, we start off with ready made meals, pies/quiches. On Saturdays I'm sometimes on reductions from 8am to 5pm so it's going on all day. We do current list later on in the day around 5pm which is when we reduce items even further, this is for items that are going out of date today.

You always have to remember out of date doesn’t mean it’s rotten. The food industry has to put a date on it as a recommendation ... but in reality some foods are good for days if not for a week before they actually get bad.

Watching all these food challenges, I’m starting to be convinced that somehow your food in the UK isn’t super expensive?!?! Last time I was in London, I totally had *quality* M&S food for about 3 quid. Reduced food is great 🙌🏼
I love food challenge videos! You bring to light that we can still eat healthy while being on a budget and that its 100% okay to shop reduced. A lot of people look down upon others who shop in reduced food, clothing, etc but there's literally nothing wrong with it. I also want to mention how great your skin looks omg!!

When it comes to working out if your food is safe, it's best to use your senses. If it smells bad and/or looks slimy, it's not worth eating. Use by dates are nothing but an estimate and include a large buffer, dates can also be used as a way to calculate and organise stock for supermarkets/retailers so have nothing to do with safety or freshness. Your eyes and nose are your best tools and that's an important part of reducing food waste.
Hey Taz, I know this comment might not be seen, but I’m glad you’re bringing the topic of reduced food to light and normalising it! My parents struggle a lot with money as rent and bills are constantly increasing here in London and are ridiculous prices. We really often live of reduced food, and we shop often in Waitrose, M&S, Tesco and sometimes Sainsbury’s. And I wish more people would know that it’s completely to eat food that is out of date by even a week! Of course depends on the food, I wouldn’t say the same for raw meat and raw fish. But I’m glad you’re raising awareness about this. Many families, like mine, rely on this. And we’re definitely lucky to have this in the UK as I know many other countries don’t have this sort of policy.
Taz , taz , the date on food is literally so for stores to not keep food for too long. Stops things being in store long enough to go off. A lot of things can last at least a few days out of the date on the packet depending on how it's stored

A lot of people look down upon others who shop in reduced food, clothing, etc but there's literally nothing wrong with it. I also want to mention how great your skin looks omg!!
OMG I swear when I say that I went to the store THE DAY THIS VID was POSTED and I walked by the reduced/clerence food ilse and im like " I fell like taz would make this type of video." I get home AND SHE FRICKN DID IT.

When it comes to working out if your food is safe, it's best to use your senses. If it smells bad and/or looks slimy, it's not worth eating. Use by dates are nothing but an estimate and include a large buffer, dates can also be used as a way to calculate and organise stock for supermarkets/retailers so have nothing to do with safety or freshness. Your eyes and nose are your best tools and that's an important part of reducing food waste.

Hey Taz, I know this comment might not be seen, but I’m glad you’re bringing the topic of reduced food to light and normalising it! My parents struggle a lot with money as rent and bills are constantly increasing here in London and are ridiculous prices. We really often live of reduced food, and we shop often in Waitrose, M&S, Tesco and sometimes Sainsbury’s. And I wish more people would know that it’s completely to eat food that is out of date by even a week! Of course depends on the food, I wouldn’t say the same for raw meat and raw fish. But I’m glad you’re raising awareness about this. Many families, like mine, rely on this. And we’re definitely lucky to have this in the UK as I know many other countries don’t have this sort of policy.

Taz , taz , the date on food is literally so for stores to not keep food for too long. Stops things being in store long enough to go off. A lot of things can last at least a few days out of the date on the packet depending on how it's stored
