I'm interviewing again after nine years, and yeah, so much has changed, and it's daunting. I'm so thankful for these videos. I've made a Google doc to collect questions from multiple videos, and filling in my answers. I've got to polish and study now because I have a phone interview on Monday. Wish me luck, and I wish you luck too! Any updates?

I wish I could answer this question honestly. Like my biggest weakness is I'm a little vain and care how ppl view me and how I present to others. Like that's legit something I work on!
This is actually a great weakness to share. I would recommend rephrasing it to something like: One of my weaknesses is I really care about what other people think about me. I'm not necessarily working to reverse this and *not* care what they think about me, but I am working on making choices personally and professionally that serve both myself and other people, rather than just doing things because I want others to think highly of me. I've found that only focusing on what others think and want ends up burning me out, so I I've started to be more intentional about what I commit to. While it has been hard to learn to say "no" and create boundaries effectively, it has ended up serving me and my relationships well! This doesn't necessarily touch on being "vain" and how you physically present to others, but I think it could be looped into this statement! What do you think?
I love your channel! I’ve been job-hunting in the “bigger company” world for about a week and it’s been so overwhelming. But I’m working hard, and I feel more confident now that I’ve found you! Update: I found an entry level job with excellent benefits and room to grow! I’m so excited and start in less than two weeks!
Thank you!! I am so glad my videos can be used as tools to help prepare your children for interviews/their jobs. Best wishes to them in these exciting new seasons of life!
The CAR advice was spot on. I am going for high level positions (VP) and have been answering the weakness questions all wrong. I can’t wait to use these on Monday!
Thank you so much for the content! I’m guilty of saying that impatience was a weakness because i have a high sense of urgency. Lol hearing you break it down made me roll my eyes as well
I really needed advice on how to ask questions at the end of the interview! I even learned that I had a weakness or "areas to improve" that occurred at my last job and now I see where I should've asked for help when the agency expected me to handle the job I had to do even though they had to let go of the 2 other staff that were hired to do the job and now I was alone! The end result was it blew up in my face and I didn't understand that until I viewed your video! The experience was disastrous now that I look back at it and how it lead to me making a mistake out of being so overwhelmed and stressed out and eventually, I was let go of! But I'm going to frame it as an area to be strengthened now because of your video! Thank you!
Amazing! So glad this helped you reframe your experience! Good luck on any future interviews you have scheduled, and I hope you find a job that is the best fit for you.
Thank you so much! Ive watched all your videos on the interview questions and this helped make the interview more conversational. I had multiple offers after using these tips.

Hi Abby, ty for your great videos. I live sharing them with my daughter (22 yr old) who will be having her first real life interview for a very temporary position as a Support Staff with a baseball organization. She has suffered with Anxiety & panic attacks for years but has gotten better over time. She has had some reception experience working for her father's small automotive repair business but has never had to do an interview before. Needless to say she is extremely anxious & even wishes she didn't submit her resume. I've told her to write her answers down & try to memorize them. I think she can do it but it's always the initial step that's the hardest. Again, love watching your videos. We find them very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing with your daughter, Laura! How did her interview go? If she has other interviews coming up and she'd like to set up an interview strategy session, that may be very helpful for her to increase her confidence and (hopefully!) reduce her anxiety about interviewing. She can send me an email at abby@lwbalance.com if that's something she is interested in!
Thank you so much Abby! I've been seeking a flight attendant position recently, and your information is so helpful. I totally bombed recently in an interview with Southwest, and I'm working hard to do better the next time. The next time is this week, 9/6/2023 in Charlotte with PSA. Wish me luck! Again, Thank you!
Hi! How did it go? I interviewed for Southwest 22 years ago! I thought it was pretty easy going interview. Even though it seemed intimidating at first bc it was such a big panel. I passed the 1st one, but then 9/11 happened, and I lost interest while they were sorting things out. Did you make it to the 2nd round?
Yes, I got a CJO with PSA Airlines. Yay!! 🎉. I did my homework by studying how to be successful in an interview, and was it worked. I’m starting training on October 16th. A lot of the airlines are hiring. What have you been doing for the last 22 years?
@C21CamelotThomas I wanted to become a stewardess so I could fly all around the world in my 20s. But after 9/11 happened, I got into the medical field. Went back to school and became a medical assistant. Now, I'm back taking classes to get my nursing license. These interview tips help for sure! I've been with the same doctors for 16 years (part-time now), so I can take my classes and work temporarily for other clinics or hospitals and gain more experience. I wish you the best and make your new endeavor a joyful one! 👍🏼
I agree with these comments. The job I’m about to interview for requires me to sell myself. My personality. Which I believe I have for this role. But it’s going to be up against others at a job fair so it’s more like a competition. Very nerve wracking!
I came across your channel knowing that I need to improve my interviewing skills. My last two interviews, the companies really liked me, and brought me in for a second and third interview. The problem was I didn't give them enough about me for them to pick me. I didn't tell the complete story. For example the part in the video where you are talking about the CAR and the lacking confidence that is all me and I should be able to tell my story better. BTW currently at a job that I really don't like. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the Great, very helpful advice;) I just had a Job interview (over the phone) a few minutes ago, I got very nervous inside,, but felt more confident than other times thanks to this video 🌷
Thankyou so much for this !!! I use allot of what I learned from watching your videos today at my interview. It definitely went well and hopefully I’ll know if I have the position within the week ❤😊
I'm very glad to have found your channel and one of my goals is to the title of your channel! Life, work, and balance almost sounds too good to be true but here's to hoping.
Hi Alex! That's one of my goals too! It's certainly not too good to be true, it's something we can all achieve! It all starts with finding a job that's a good fit for you, which allows you to also spend time in your life doing the things you love
Interviewers need to stop asking weakness questions. There is no good way to answer this. And they don’t ask “what is your weakness.” They ask “what would your current boss say that you need to improve upon?” No. I will not show any employer my job reviews.
Really practical content 100%, and quite well-expressed, throughout. When the listener starts taking notes for action, that's the key sign that the advisories are truly top-tier. And is going to be just as practical into the future ! THANKS ! If your list "summaries" can be posted--even "lo-tech" such as on posterboards, the viewer can pause to review even better, visually. The content is that 'strong' in its generic form to be applied to specific businesses/agencies, consistent with this trend toward such formats. Thanks again ! Best/wellness, P J G
Hi PJG, thank you for the thoughtful response! I appreciate your feedback and am trying to incorporate more visual examples where viewers can pause to take note.
helpful advice. That is a tough question to answer, so this helps. I have a panel interview this week and I think this will help me be more prepared, thank you
Great videos. I have been out of the interview process for over 15 years. There is so much to learn out there and is overwhelming. What is best to start focusing on first?
Great question! I would start by thinking about your answer to the most common way interviews are opened: Tell me about yourself. Check out these videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLzWOz8R0BVKm4xwY0l7XHtm87SEvQpp5O I've also got this playlist on how to prepare: ruclips.net/p/PLzWOz8R0BVKkZWohovG4yz4_mYboiL67K Best of luck! If you have an upcoming interview and would like to set up an interview strategy session, reach out to me as soon as your interview is scheduled. You can email me directly at abby@lwbalance.com and we can go over common interview questions, how you can answer based on your experience, etc.
It's a tough question to answer! Good luck on your interviews this week and hopefully this question doesn't come up, but if it does, you'll be prepared!
@@LifeWorkBalance you'll be happy to know that I landed the job! You might have noticed I commented on a few of your videos and they all helped. Prepping for the introduction, tell me about a time..., what is your greatest weakness and asking good follow up questions all paid off.
I'm wondering if I can use a lack of experience as a weakness? Do you think that if I'm missing some qualifications for a position, can I say that my weakness is lack of experience in( x, y, z).... However I have taken initial steps in learning these skills by (x,y,z).....
I'd recommend explaining how it has hindered you in the past and what you've done to improve your response to situations that could cause stress and pressure, and how you've learned/grown from that. For example: Maybe you notice you start to feel a certain way, or your desk looks more messy when you begin to feel stressed and under pressure, so you read a book on the topic and learned some skills for yourself as well as skills that you implement with your manager/supervisor to better understand priorities etc. How have those new skills helped you/what did you learn/etc.
Here are two that come to mind: 1. Over-Reliance on Data Example: "I can sometimes rely heavily on data when making marketing decisions, as I value metrics in guiding strategies. I’m working on integrating more creative intuition into my decision-making to balance the data-driven approach." 2. Struggles with Delegation Example: "I like to be hands-on with projects, which sometimes makes it hard for me to delegate tasks. However, I’m working on trusting my team more and delegating effectively so I can focus on high-level strategy."
I can relate. Interviewing is exhausting and draining. And it does sometimes feel like a game. If you find the right organization, it probably won't feel like a game. Wishing you the best in your job search!
How do you deal with the "multitasking" question. I have ADD and multitasking is a challenge. I do not want to disclose about the ADD, even though it is influential. How do I express that I can still multi-task, but am working on prioritization and finishing up collateral tasks.
GREAT question! Research has demonstrated that it is NOT GOOD to multi-task. I think you can talk about your experience without naming your ADD. For example, "I've noticed if I try to multitask, I am not as effective. It's really important to me to produce thoughtful, quality work, so if I am in the middle of a project, and something else is suddenly added to my plate, I have found I am more effective if I find a good stopping place, evaluate my new workload, and reprioritize my tasks based on new or changing deadlines and priorities."
I think answering something like "I work too hard" is perfect, it will show, that you know they will ask this question, that it is stupid question and that you prepared answer in advance (so you prepared for interview).
I also think this is a bad question, but it still comes up in the interview process! Ideally your response doesn't communicate that you believe it's stupid because that won't leave a great first impression. Doing some self-reflection on the things you are working to improve is the best approach to a question like this.
Check me out on Twitch here: www.twitch.tv/lifeworkbalance I multistream on Twitch and RUclips simultaneously, so if you can't find my Twitch stream, you should be able to find my RUclips live stream. Thanks for watching!
My friends just moved out there and my grandma and aunt lived there until my grannie died in 2004. I’m feeling a lot of the same things you’ve said here. ❤
I've tried many times to think about an answer, how to put it, having no success. The point is, I have worked as a project manager having multidisciplinary teams and because of that we sometimes had delays and tasks were not delivered as good as possible. I have difficulty to understand how people can deliver whatever thing they have done, or to put I expect much more. My ex boss use to say that I have a high standard at work, that I am so strict, demanding a lot from my colleagues. How can i put that as a weakness?
Good question. If you've received feedback that you have high standards, are strict, and demand a lot from your colleagues, what have you done to improve or work to improve that? You might say something like, "I've been told by previous managers that my high standard of work can cause stress and anxiety among my team members. After I was given that feedback I started recognizing the nonverbal body language of my colleagues to clue me in if I was coming on too strong, or had too high of expectations. I started dialing it back. I understand that I am in control of myself and the work that I do, but I cannot control others. If it is important to me that we submit work of a certain quality or standard, I get buy-in from my team early by talking to them first about our goals, and desired end results."
Great videos. I do have one critique because I had issues with conflicting sounds like many other ADHD people. Can you lower or remove the sound from the videos? They are taking away from what you're saying you're saying great things
Not necessarily- we all likely have things we’re confident about, so I don’t think lack of confidence is a personality thing. However, employers likely don’t want to spend much of their time coaxing their employees into doing everything. Some hesitation about a job or task is normal, but if we make it sound like our employer will have to work hard to help us feel comfortable, safe, and confident, that can pull their time, energy, and attention from their own work and be too much of a burden.
Hello, i m going to have interview for Senior Channel manager for a food/beverage company ( i have 18 years of experinces) what could be a better suggestion from you..to answer this question not affecting the process in a negative way? grazie
Great question! When I am conducting "real" interviews, I try not to ask this question. Instead, I ask something like, "What is something you are working to improve?" However, during mock interviews, I DO ask this question because it is still a very common question that is asked by other interviewers.
I've made the mistake of saying I don't have any weaknesses and I used to truly believe that but that's only because I don't want to talk about personal weaknesses if it has nothing to do with the job. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely not perfect but when it comes to my job I aim for perfection. So how do I find a good enough weakness worth telling in an interview? Saying I've made mistakes with deliveries is not a good enough weakness.....
Great question. You want to share a weakness that highlights your self-awareness and dedication to growth and development. Have you ever received feedback about something you could have done differently or better? That might be a good starting place! One of my weaknesses that I fall back on is conflict. I am pretty conflict avoidant, but I know avoiding conflict is not healthy or effective. So I share what I've learned when it comes to handling conflict effectively, even if it makes me internally feel uncomfortable.
What weakness have you shared in an interview?
This is very overwhelming for someone whom hasn't had an interview in 13 years. I kept the same job too long apparently and now need a script to get hired.
I understand I’ve been with my company for 15 years and am ready for a career change .. I feel so out of touch with interviews
To@@geekyreader3103 --Same reply as for @shellieobrien4493-- working for the same company/business/agency is arguably strong evidence of:
= loyalty
= a real work ethic
= likelihood of successes on projects/taks/ assignments consistently throughout that time period.

Sometimes career changes can happen within the same entity (business/agency) to strengthen whatever pension plan may be in place, rather than a new vesting time & probationary period.

I've also got this playlist on how to prepare: ruclips.net/p/PLzWOz8R0BVKkZWohovG4yz4_mYboiL67K
Best of luck! If you have an upcoming interview and would like to set up an interview strategy session, reach out to me as soon as your interview is scheduled. You can email me directly at abby@lwbalance.com and we can go over common interview questions, how you can answer based on your experience, etc.
Great tips! I relate to all 3 examples you gave
Thanks for watching, Nona! I am glad these tips and examples were relatable!
So great to have a woman do this. Theres lots of Alpha male types do interview vids, however I'm looking for teaching position with young children 😂
Nice Video!! Thanks
I really hate this question and have struggled to answer it each time. Thank you for this video!
@@seanjcan Congratulations!!
Good work
Thank you!!! ❤❤
Thank you!!
Thanks for the video I love it 😊
I'm wondering if I can use a lack of experience as a weakness? Do you think that if I'm missing some qualifications for a position, can I say that my weakness is lack of experience in( x, y, z).... However I have taken initial steps in learning these skills by (x,y,z).....
Thanks
That’s a beautiful canvas!
Thank you! I love my mountains :)
I'm really struggling with this one. I can't seem to think of anything I can use that isnt somehow one of the 'do not's'
How would you suggest nagivating this question if your biggest weakness is that you do not handle stress and pressure well?
I'd recommend explaining how it has hindered you in the past and what you've done to improve your response to situations that could cause stress and pressure, and how you've learned/grown from that.
For example: Maybe you notice you start to feel a certain way, or your desk looks more messy when you begin to feel stressed and under pressure, so you read a book on the topic and learned some skills for yourself as well as skills that you implement with your manager/supervisor to better understand priorities etc. How have those new skills helped you/what did you learn/etc.
What are some weakness that I can choose for job in marketing ?
Here are two that come to mind:
1. Over-Reliance on Data
Example: "I can sometimes rely heavily on data when making marketing decisions, as I value metrics in guiding strategies. I’m working on integrating more creative intuition into my decision-making to balance the data-driven approach."
2. Struggles with Delegation
Example: "I like to be hands-on with projects, which sometimes makes it hard for me to delegate tasks. However, I’m working on trusting my team more and delegating effectively so I can focus on high-level strategy."
What if you don’t want to play the “interview game” any longer, but still have to pay bills & enjoy working?
I can relate. Interviewing is exhausting and draining. And it does sometimes feel like a game. If you find the right organization, it probably won't feel like a game. Wishing you the best in your job search!
6:1, for anyone just wanting how to answer the question!
Will do
How do you deal with the "multitasking" question.
Love your eyebrows.
love the video, typo: u used the word strength instead of weakness @ 1:30
Where do you find Twitch?

Really great advice! Thank you
My friends just moved out there and my grandma and aunt lived there until my grannie died in 2004. I’m feeling a lot of the same things you’ve said here. ❤
And if I could be following all this full statement would I pass a interview
What band 3 nhs questions will I be asked ?
Kryptonite, falling into a neutron star or black hole, and myself.
LOL
Great videos. I do have one critique because I had issues with conflicting sounds like many other ADHD people. Can you lower or remove the sound from the videos? They are taking away from what you're saying you're saying great things
Thank you for the feedback! I've tried lowering the music at the beginning so my voice comes over clearer and doesn't make it hard to hear!!
Is saying “sometimes I’m not very confident” more of a personality thing?
Not necessarily- we all likely have things we’re confident about, so I don’t think lack of confidence is a personality thing. However, employers likely don’t want to spend much of their time coaxing their employees into doing everything. Some hesitation about a job or task is normal, but if we make it sound like our employer will have to work hard to help us feel comfortable, safe, and confident, that can pull their time, energy, and attention from their own work and be too much of a burden.
Hello, i m going to have interview for Senior Channel manager for a food/beverage company ( i have 18 years of experinces) what could be a better suggestion from you..to answer this question not affecting the process in a negative way?
grazie
Think of something you're working to improve! This could be more soft/life skill focused, not necessarily technical focused.
Great video. Thanks
You said, “as much as I don’t like this question…” I’m curious as to whether you ask this question in interviews.
Thanks
Great question! When I am conducting "real" interviews, I try not to ask this question. Instead, I ask something like, "What is something you are working to improve?"
However, during mock interviews, I DO ask this question because it is still a very common question that is asked by other interviewers.
