    We had this one. We found that it changed the way we wash. We started washing in the evenings and letting it dry overnight. The 10 kg load was significantly bigger than our previous top loader, so we did fewer washes. We spent a few hundred dollars extra on the underdrawer.
    Pros:
    1. Takes a good sized load. Reduces the number of washes required each week
    2. Can be run overnight or before going to work and come home to completed wash.
    Cons:
    1. After nearly two years an internal hose broke and leaked all over the place. It was repaired under warranty.
    2. After four years, the electronic unit died and the machine was deemed unrepairable. We had an extended warranty so they replaced it with another LG unit of the same value but that turned out to be washed only and different dimensions so had to throw away our base drawer unit.
    3. This machine wrinkles clothes very badly, especially the dryer. Be prepared to iron everything and the wrinkles as so bad that ironing a shirt is painfully difficult.
    4. The washer is so very heavy to lift, I can’t imagine that it is light enough to install in an RV.
    5. Cycle with drying can be very long, even three or four hours.
    6. Drying capacity is less than washing capacity, so if you dry, you lose the benefits of the larger capacity.

    Hey Keith, My family has an LG WM3987HW, that my wife has been maintaining since it went out of warranty, three-yrs. ago. It is built to handle a much larger capacity. we can actually wash and dry a California King comforter in it.
    I paid to have a Certified LG tech $400 to look at the problem of it shorting out the fuse inside the washer/dryer (at $45.00 a pop for the limiter block) we used five of those little puppies. Every component in the washer has been replaced except opening the motor housing. He could not fix it, so LG gave us $400 for the washer and dryer we purchased in 2013.
    We've figured that if the company that built it can't fix it, we'll have to do it ourselves. We figure it is something inside the motor housing, as it only shorts out on the final stage of the full washer/dryer test. I've literally sat through three of these tests with the same LG tech from beginning to end, test ok. The tech leaves and the next day, the same fuse is blown.
    So, we changed the outlet supplying the 110VAC power to the LG machine. No help. All my wife and I can figure are that something is shorting the motor assembly, that burnt a component on the Control Board, that blows the fuse on the block limiter.
    If you've ever run across this problem in the past, it'd be great to hear from you, if not; once we find the solution, we'll let you know what we've found.

    I owned three of these over the last 20 years and for a single person they are great. I use only the 25 minute quick wash cycle, use just a fraction of the detergent top loaders require, and the dryer prevents mold from being a problem with the drum. The high speed spin makes the drying cycle irrelevant because I'll take shirts, pants, sheets out, hang them, and let them air dry so that I don't have to iron them. Towels, I let the dry cycle handle. If you use "ultra" fabric softener then the clothes don't stick together after high speed spin dry. I never had any problems with these units and sold them with the condos that I owned, and I'd not hesitate in buying another LG combo tomorrow.

    I have had 2 of these and they are ideal for a small household, 1 or 2 people . The biggest drawback is the accumulation of lint which requires dismantling the top to clean about every 2 years. The lint really slows downs drying. My present machine is 3 1/2 years old and I either have to call for service or dismantle it myself due to lint build up. I do like the combo nature. Throw clothes in and cone back to dry ones. Note: clothes may be a bit damper than normal dryers tho my new unit gets clothes pretty dry.

      You can set it to dry [more] for it to dry fully, over drying clothes creates more static and wears clothing out faster. Two most important things is to READ the directions and the second things is that if you have 20 kids don’t buy it. This one in particular condensed the moisture and uses the same pipe as your washer to take the moisture out. That’s another reason it takes so long to dry. You can buy ones that use a vent though. A huge issue is that this machine is larger than the dimensions listed! You have to add almost 3in more for the depth! Not even counting the hoses and power cord the machine is still an inch deeper than listed.
    The width Is correct but you have to add on space for ventilation.
    The key to getting completely dry clothes is to only have the dryer half full, AND set the dry time for the dryer at 2 hours! We found that using the sensor settings always left the clothes damp. But on the timer after 2 hours the clothes came out very toasty and completely dry.
    We are also very careful about wiping the lint out of the machine after every use. That is kind of a pain but hopefully it will cut down on the reported annual need to take off the top of the machine to remove lint.

    We have this exact model. We bought it used 6 months ago and the folks said it was about a year old then. We use it almost every day and love it.

    These units are super energy efficient and should be more widely used. If you wash regularly instead of waiting till you have mountains of clothes this unit is perfect and will save you money. It pulls heat from the air, in the summertime it helps us cut our AC bill. In the winter it's not as optimal but our cooling bill is more than twice our heating. One of the best qualities is the all in one. Have you even started a wash and forgot about it, came back and it smelled awful and you had to run it again? That was me almost ever wash, with this unit and an o3pure, those days are gone. Anyone telling you this is for students or campers is just trying to sell you two units instead of telling you to not let laundry pile up, throw some in here and there as you can fill a load and this will be your favorite washer/dryer.

      Michelle Marie The condensing dryer technology does not vent like conventional dryers. There’s no hot air blowing out of the machine anywhere. I liked the machine that was in my apartment, but plan on doing maybe only 1 or 2 loads a day because the wash and dry of 1 load took a total of 4 hours. The clothes came out of the machine so hot that you practically needed oven mitts to handle them. I’d toss the clothes onto my bed and let them cool before I tried to fold them.

    ok. This is polemic, I was once totally against combo units. FACT, a washer separate and a dryer will be way more convenient as you can wash a load while drying the previous wash. well in Brazil these combo units as a huge hit and everybody dreams of having one. So I got one a couple of years ago as I moved to a smaller condo and let me tell you the pros I found:
    -these machines are extremely quiet and you can run a load during the night, so by the morning your load is dry and ready to fold;
    -they are super efficient and wash everything from comforters to suits, really no more dry cleaning bills;
    -uses very little water, which saves electricity for heating, soap and the actual water bill;
    -take up very little space, you can stack other things on top of your washer as it will vibrate to a minimum.
    how do I deal with the drying odyssey:
    the machine has lots of rubber, so for the first couple of months, your clothes will smell burnt rubber due to the high temp. so I didn't dry my shirts in the first couple of months. Now I do, though. I set the washing cycle and I add the timed drying cycle to the size of the load, half an hour for about four items, one hour for four items and a couple of pants or one hour and a half for half the drum or a full set of queen size sheet. After it's done I still wait another thirty minutes till complete cooldown and that has helped my clothes to complete the drying process.
    hence the capacity, you can only do a wahs+dry cycle with max the half of the total drum capacity. this machine is smart so I do small loads constantly.
    I totally love my LG.

    • @indiekiduk
      @indiekiduk 6 лет назад +1

      The air is heated over an element before it is blown inside to extract the humidity, it is probably that you are smelling because elements may give off fumes in early use.

    We have this unit in our (very) small (part time) apartment outside the US - where apartments are tiny and expensive. We are grateful to have it. Even though it takes a long time to wash and dry, we've adapted and it's perfect for us. Lots of our neighbors have small washing machines, and dry their clothes outside or in their living room! Not for us. So . . .we will put up with the long wash/dry time; and small capacity. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the video - or maybe I missed it - you have to empty the reservoir after every wash or dry. It's easy to do - and it's about a cup of water.

    I have one of these units and know a few people who also have it. The wash cycle takes about 50 minutes, which I find reasonable. BUT, if you have even one towel in the dryer it will take several hours for the load to dry. I just did a small load today with 2 towels and a few shirts and it took about 3.5 hours, maybe longer, to wash and dry! Many people I know, including myself, wind up hanging the clothes to dry. As the reviewer said, please do not buy this if you are looking for standard washer/dryer capabilities. You will be disappointed.

    These Extractors (as they're sometimes called) are not designed to vent outdoors, but rather 'extract' dirt and rinse water to the drain. While that works in theory, it's not an efficient process - more than often leaving clothes damp. In humid climates this tends to cause sour or moldy clothing. I'd avoid one of these until they're vastly improved in design. Save yourself the aggravation and just buy a stacked washer/dryer unit.

  • @spencerwilton5831
    @spencerwilton5831 6 лет назад +12

    Combined washer dryers are notoriously slow at drying and never as effective as stand alone dryers. Even the top of the range manufacturers take ages to dry, and capacity for drying is also significantly lower than washing capacity, so you may have to split the drying load. I had one in a previous property, and clothes would be in there for two hours, come out steaming hot but still damp. I'm convinced they are bad for clothes. Only consider one of these if saving space is essential, and you only envisage occasional dryer use.

      Spencer Wilton I used to be a successful appliance sales specialist for 7 years and only managed to find less than 3 customers who were a perfect match for the LG AI1 combo. All of them lived in small Miami Beach condos, and they were all foreign snowbirds.
      Actually, LG AI1 combo was never meant for the ubiquitously suburban, instant gratification obsessed American household. Yes, I dealt with numerous inquisitive clients who liked the idea before I quickly revealed the brutal reality of owning such an unnecessary contraption.

      wyzemann I have yet to come across one that functions as one would hope it would. If they could perfect them I suspect more would be sold, especially in the U.K. Where space is often at a premium and appliances are often found in the kitchen. We don't really have so much of a dryer culture here, seeing them rather as things to use when in a hurry or when the weather is too wet to dry outdoors so perhaps that has something to do with it too- people put up with the poor performance as it's a function only used a handful of times a year.

  • @fixinggrace
    @fixinggrace 6 лет назад +13

    One drawback with these combos is they go through drain pumps. This is because they use the pump to drain the water on the wash and rinse AND to dry the clothes. To dry clothes, this washer heats up the water really hot and then drains it out. Eventually the clothes will get dry, but it triples wear on the drain pump. The drain pumps on these combos are no stronger than a regular washing machine. If you use this washer combo like the salesman is telling you, it should work fine. But there are drawbacks. I work on LG and Samsung for a living.
