They seem nice as fashion dolls but not as much for play dolls. I think they would have been cool if they included some blank/plain stickers with markers that wash off with water to allow for the person playing with the dolls to create their own unique pieces as well, but the markers would bring the cost up too much probably.

honestly I used to have paper dolls when I was a kid (both cheap pure paper ones and one where the doll itself was flat plastic) and their play value can still be pretty good depending on the kid, even with clothes that are fully factory drawn. still I agree that including clothes that can be colored or fully blank stickers would've been neat. from the looks of it I think kids might be able to make completely new clothes out of actual paper, but the thickness of the plastic might make the clothes' flaps a bit unstable.

I feel like magnetic or snap on clothes would be better for replayability than stickers because stickers aren't sticky forever
Personally I don't really get why I'd get these over a styling book. Because styling picture books with stickers or magnets are just 2d and I kinda don't like the whole 2.5 d thing these have

I feel like these dolls would work way better if they used non-permanent vinyl, so you could remove the clothing and put it back on the hanger. For me, these needs to be dolls that you can style over and over again, since they don't have a lot of playing ability otherwise. When I was younger, I used to have a magnetic Barbie (that was flat) with a variety of magnetic cloths. And I do understand that putting magnets in the hands of younger children is problematic, but it was still a lot of fun for 7-8 years old me to style my barbie a different way every day. These dolls are a bit of a let-down in comparison.

I used to get a sort of flat Barbie on chips as a kid! It was basically a plastic card with Barbie’s body and a couple of her outfits you could pull off the card and dress her up. You would get one in every chip package and they were obviously quite small,,, I really miss them

These dolls look really interesting (even if they remind me a little of that scene from who framed roger rabbit).
Regarding the posability, I once made paper dolls like these and used split pins at the joints that allowed them make some poses. I imagine they could have done something similar (at least with the elbows and wrists) to give them some more playability.
I also wonder why the heads couldn’t move the way a normal dolls can, because they have a 3d head already. Even if they couldn’t have the full neck peg, they could have just had ball like the lol dolls surely.

So it's a new expensive version of Paper dolls from the old days? Paper dolls are figures cut out of paper or thin card, with separate clothes, also made of paper, that are usually held onto the dolls by paper folding tabs. They may be a figure of a person, animal or inanimate object. Paper dolls have been inexpensive children's toys for almost two hundred years.

I use cat/pet claw scissors from the Dollar Tree for cutting the jibbers - they grab ahold of the tiny things.
I admit, the first time I saw these, I just thought they were weird and couldn't understand why anyone would like them, but now I think they're kind of great. Colorforms were my favorite "paper doll" as a kid, because the clothes did not fall off. Lining them up to the body is very good for developing dexterity. When it comes to normal 3d dolls, hair play is very important, and to this day (I'm 54), brushing doll hair is as soothing as petting an animal, so it's great they have real hair. Dressing dolls can be tricky for little hands - they don't always have the patience to wiggle stuff on - so this gives quicker satisfaction. I love the way they store the stickers - in Colorforms, they had to stick directly on their original layout, and since that was cut in, eventually the plastic peeled up off the plastic. My concern is the durability of the stickers - that they will not tear or warp and will stay sticky.
People complaining about the price: I mean, $30 is way too much for a paper doll, but this is a doll playset, with 5 curated outfits with an average of 7 items each, along with a handful of accessories, and "furniture" (clothes hanger, stand). Fashionistas start out at $10USD, come with shoes, dress, and maybe one accessory. I think these would be great for travel and would provide hours of creative play styling the dolls. How much is a movie date with a kid and it only lasts 2 hours tops? This seems like just as good an investment.

On the fence about the whole sticker clothing thing since obviously the sticky will wear off after a while with continued play and from oils from hands and whatnot. To tell the truth I hated it haha. I've had dolls to build with stickers and in the end they always end up losing the glue, or full of fur, hair and dust. Furthermore, many of the shoes and clothes are similar between the girls, which shows a lack of originality, as well as the accessories, they all have the same bracelets just in different colors. If they were much cheaper than normal dolls I would understand. But I bet the difference is very small. I think I judge a little because I've always loved dolls for the construction of their clothes or for any extra details they may have, and in that way it's difficult to appreciate details. Anyway, I know I'm not the target audience, but if I were a child I don't know if I would like it too, it's very difficult to put a sticker on a page that you've taken off and try to put back on, in the end it's a mess and I would feel it (and maybe get beaten for) """ruining the toy""" so quickly. Jen is adorable, but it's definitely not for me. Furthermore, I thought that Harper has a style that is even too similar to Clowdeen Wolf, I think it's a bit annoying as they always associate the character who has dark complex skin with street wear.... I think sometimes it could be different. Anyway, just my opinion

I´m a DC Comics fan. That doesn´t mean I don´t watch all superhero movies but the ones I buy, the comics I get and stuff are from DC. And while, of course, there are people that would like both Marvel and DC there are also the people that have a specific fandom. And it meant a lot to me that you had the tought of specify Marvel and not put all superheroes in the same boat. ;)

I don't like these dolls, I'd rather have a well designed traditional paper doll with tons of different fashions. I do get the idea behind them, and I'm sure many people will like having many clothes plus the option of hair play.
42:33 I would argue that lack of articulation stimulates imagination more, since you have to come up with new ways to perform or convey the action the toy is supposed to be doing. Also would make you focus more in verbalizing what's going and the toy/character inner feelings and thoughts, instead of just posing them. 😁
And this is coming from someone who would have loved to have fully articulated dolls as a child! But I also had a blast with normal paper dolls and plain mini figures.
So in the end, if the child likes a particular toy, they will find the way to play and enjoy it.
Love your reviews, by the way! You do a great job going over all the details and you are really honest. All the best! 😊

You know, I was initially very sceptical towards this concept as it felt like a cheap gimmick, but as someone who had both paper dolls and fridge magnet dolls as a kid, I probably would have actually really liked these. Though I've seen comments that depending on the country they cost between $20-40, and that I wouldn’t pay for them. Maybe $15, or even perhaps up to $17.5. Yes, not that much different, but it feels more reasonable.

Love the video, as always. Just wanted to mention though that caucasian is an obsolete racial classification of humans based on a theory of biological race that has now been disproven. It was coined in the late 18th century by the Göttingen school of history, and they divided humanity into three major race categories: caucasoid, negroid and mongoloid. Both mongoloid and negroid are words that have fallen out of fashion in general society, but caucasoid or caucasian is a term that is still used to describe white people, despite referring to a disproven and generally racist theory of human race classification.

So... every doll has a predominantly blue, purple and pink outfit palettes? They could have made green, yellow, red, orange, white, etc. But all these other colours are, at most, minimally present, and you would be really pressed to make an outfit or two without blue, purple or pink, especially if you ony have one doll. Quite disappointing. Also, some of these clothing pieces seem a bit too similar between the dolls. I don't see a strongly individual style for any of them, maybe Kiki. I think, that the person who came up with the styles and colours, didn't do a good enough job.
My other complaint would be the fact, that these are stickers. It would be much better if they were those soft magnetic sheets. Much easier to put on and off, stackable, and much more sturdy. Some of the clothing pieces have very tiny details, sharp corners, those will get torn/crumpled/warped the moment a child touches them. No matter how careful a kid is, even a 10 year old is likely to accidentally damage it, which is just a big bag of upset. Not to mention, that a sticker isn't sticky for long (especially in the hands of a child), and will pick up dirt super easy. A soft magnetic sheet doesn't have this problem.
Their faces look a bit too similar. Like, they aren't identical if you look closely, but still.
Something I really don't dig, is how multiple of their accessories are the same, just in a different colour. Not even a different pattern or anything, just a solid piece of colored plastic. If you make the same exact mold in three different colours, it's not three different accessories, it's the same thing in different colours.
The representation.....it just feels like they haven't even tried. Oh, let's make their skin a gradient from pale to tanned, great! Not. A mixed family of one white and one black parent has children with a wider range of skin colour. Where is the darker complexion? Where is the east asian and indian representation? No ginger hair again? Freckles?
And let's not even mention the fact, that there isn't even 1 token boy. Like, what even.
Good idea, nice artwork, terrible execution.

Tbh im not collecting dolls as much as I have in the past, partly because of space reasons in my home, and also because of inflation making everything that much harder to afford. But a lot of it has to do with how fast all the doll lines are pumping out products/new lines.. *ahem* Rainbow High 👀.. its so hard to keep up with them. I really only care to collect Bratz these days, but these kind of interest me, mainly because of how cute the fashions are and how many pieces they come with. The flat/2D/paper mario is throwing me off a bit, but I did grow up with paper dolls, so its not like im not used to flat dolls. Theres just something about a 2D body with a 3D head thats... odd 🤔

I don't think they're practical for children. I mean it seems like a cool idea in theory, but in practise I'm not so sure. If I had this as a kid I'm sure I would've accidentally ruined one of the dolls at one point or another (I mean I had a couple of barbies and monster highs lose their heads at one point or another just from me being a kid and playing with my dolls and they are way more playable then these dolls are) and as a kid I had a wooden doll which had a similar idea to this, but because it was wooden it was far more durable to be played with by a kid (it was by Melissa and Doug I believe, but I don't remember what it was called or anything.... all I know/remember is it was a thing that I played with in the early 2000's)
(also something I want to add, is it just me, or does this have vibes of something you might get in a McDonald's happy meal?)

Yet another unattainable standard for women 🥲 /j
I'm not sure I get the point, or maybe it's just because the hybrid flat body/big head creeps me out a bit 😅 I used to love paper/magnet dolls as a kid, but I also loved the part of having stick on hair too, I never felt like brushing real hair on my flat dolls... but maybe some kids do!
Eta: The hanger rack design is terrible 😅 It's made to flop over with such an uneven light base with heavier cardboard. I'm also very skeptical about durability. The main appeal of paper dolls is how inexpensive and accessible they are. They can also last if you're careful. But stickers will very quickly get dirty and curl when reused, but you paid way more than a regular paper doll! It would be much more interesting as magnets or maybe velcros or any other durable way of attaching the clothes on
