      I'm almost 26 and lalaloopsey came out when I was aging out of the doll demographic so I saw nobody in my circle talking about them. They do remind me of Raggedy Anne and Andy that the boomers and GenX like, I used to have coloring books of them. Also this was the early 2010's the dolls came out during a time when creepy dolls are on full display by the movies and creepypasta culture so of course people will have an aversion to rag and porcelain dolls.

      @@lulaloopseyAt 63 years old even relating to your deep passion and devotion to something I must say I am amazed to find myself here and actually eager to learn. My lifelong passion and devotion has been for the Harley Davidson Motorcycle and vintage merchandise. Living most of my life looking like a walking and talking advertisement in my time known as a Biker Chick. 😂❤
      I had to share that as I feel the leap from HD to LLL is a long rather unexpected.
      My introduction to what I believe are dolls that Rock their vibes much like I did was thru believe it or not a popular item called the blind bag it was a long time before I realized they lived outside of tiny paint tins and miniature purses lol. more info:
    -Dot Starlight, while excluded from merchandising 100% of the time, she never failed to make an appearance in all forms of medias.
    -the Silly Funhouse Peanut & Ember 2-pack is from mid 2012.
    -Silly Hair was incredibly well received, getting 11 large doll releases (+ 3 more in 2021) aswell as 6 Silly Hair Littles.
    -Button Tails plushies were not released for, or in relation to a corresponding video game. the promotional videos would often advertise their game/activity filled website at the end.
    -Pet Pals were not based on the pets of lalaloopsy. all releases for this spin off were original characters and were meant to be just random anthropomorphic animals living in lalaloopsy land as people. random but yeah.
    -Lalaloopsy Babies as a toy line wasn't that remarkable, but the movie released for the line, "Lalaloopsy Babies: First Steps" gave us a lot of lore/origin info about the Lalaloopsy characters.
    -its mentioned that Whirly Stretchy Locks has a sewn on date on Lollipop day, every Lalaloopsy character has a sewn on date in correspondence with a holiday that goes with their theme.
    -series 1 of Mystery Paint Cans were releases of pre existing minis
    (though there were four "chaser" minis exclusively available through the cans)
    but series 2 of the Cans, aswell as series 1 & 2 of the Mystery Purses, had entirely new style n swap minis.
    (series 1 & 2 of Mystery Purses were basically series 3 & 4 of the Pain Cans, they just changed the shape)
    -It's not certain whether or not Lalaloopsy is here to stay, rumor has it, the 2021 rerelease didn't sell well, in fact you can find most of them heavily discounted on Amazon for like $15 $10 i've seen $5 even. it's unlikely that we'll see anymore releases. most speculate that it was a lack of advertising that led to the 2021 rereleases flopping.
    ~~~
    Ahhhhhh i loved this video, YOU ATE! I've seen a lot of these kinds of videos where they hardly know what they're talking about 😭 but this one is perfectly perfect~ Thank u for making this, i enjoyed watching 💞
    Fun Fact: 3:18 While Dot doesn't have any variations of herself, Dot was eventually given a little sister. Comet Starlight was released in 2021, 11 years after Dot. Any child around that time are either teens or young adults. My guess is they thought Dot didn't need a sibling, but seeing as she was part of the original, they said "Screw it" and give her one. Only hardcore Lalaloopsy fans brought and kept Dot and brought Comet when she came out.
    Japanese person chiming in about Yuki Kimono, OMG she's so cute. I always found Lalaloopsy to be reminiscent of harajuku fashion, I remember as a kid my family thinking they were really cute and very much aligned with a Japanese aesthetic. There is very little representation for specifically Japanese dolls, even today. So pretty much any line with even a nod to us feels very special. I think the geisha look for Yuki is well done and I would have killed for her if she existed when I was a kid!
    Just a tangent about Japanese representation in the 2000s/2010s:
    Growing up, pretty much the only representation I had as a little girl was Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Girls. I know many people find that content to be problematic now, but it was never offensive to me or my family. It was nice seeing pieces of our culture become popular and being able to see something familiar in stores. Her perfume bottles had figures on them that were similar to a modern style of Kokeshi Ningyo, a traditional wooden doll for a small girl. Having a purse from that brand was one of the only ways I could proudly show off my culture on a day to day basis.
    When it came to dolls, there was next to nothing. Occasionally you would get an "asian" themed doll that was horribly inaccurate, or a doll that looked maybe asian if you squinted. For instance, look up the Bratz Tokyo A Go Go dolls...they're not great. Too many liberties were taken with the design and makes it look more like they are wearing Chinese hanfu than a kimono. Best I had was a Mulan doll, she wasn't Japanese, but she was a strong asian character to look up to. That was the sort of vibe then. Japanese and anime inspired dolls were extremely uncommon and did not become more available into the mid 2010s. Yuki was not released until 2014! That same year, the Monster High doll Kiyomi Haunterly was released. This was really the first time I think doll lines started taking asian cultures more seriously and not just lumping them all together.
    Recently I saw the Rainbow High doll Lila Yamamoto for the first time and was so shocked to see a Japanese doll in a grocery store. And Korean Rainbow High dolls too! The fact that they even recognized the difference made me so happy to see. So much more care is being put into cultural designs in dolls these days and its seriously incredible. I know people say representation matters all the time, but it really does. Thinking about all the Japanese kids who can pick a doll off a shelf that reminds them of themselves and not having to settle brings a tear to my eye. Anyways thanks for bearing with my long comment and I hope it can bring some perspective on the matter!
    Although I made Monster High more of my personality, lalaloopsy was truly the most influential doll line of my childhood. My sibling and I mostly played with lalaloopsies, because it is just easier to have complicated plots and big character dramas with smaller toys. Lalaoopsies were also a big part of how I was able to bond with my younger cousins, who always wanted to play with them when they came over. And they were also a big influence on my own doll making
    I actually used to own Lalaloopsy’s and can add more info!
    - the color me’s used paint markers and it stained the clothes (well, mine did)
    - The swap n’ style dolls have the rubber Polly Pocket clothes texture (just to confirm how the clothing swaps work)
    - there were Two mermaid dolls (Coral Seashells and Sand E. Stars I think were the names, but less confident on the latter) and they had color change hair, pets that worked as rubber ducks, and two outfits (a tail and swimsuit)
    - There was a mermaid bubble bath doll line that I distinctly remember owning
    - there were fantasy minis based off of fairytales (the ones I remember are ones based on Little Red Riding Hood, Miss Mary Muffet, and Peter Pan, but there is more)
    - There were limited edition gold minis (the only ones I remember are a crumbs and peanut + the litter sisters and pets as a double pack)
    When me and my sister were little, we were OBSESSED with Lalaloopsy! Every time my dad went on a work trip, he would bring us back the Mini figures of them. He told me a story about how he was at a Christmas charity event thing with the people from his office, and they needed to make like a fun toy ornament sort of thing, and my dad suggested the mini lalaloopsy dolls and they were a big hit! I yearn for the simplicities of childhood and being so excited for a new episode of lalaloopsy
    I have/had so so many Lalaloopsy's! (Like enough to pay off a house lol) and as like a super fan there are a few that you didn't bring up in the video that I noticed. The bubble hair mermaids, the color changing hair mermaids, dancing Peanut Big Top, Goldie Luxe, and Ivory Ice Crystal's. (Last two were notoriously super expensive. Like 80-90 bucks) loved the video and sorry for being a know-it-all. PPS also forgot the Oven. Which wasn't a doll but yk...
    When these released I was at that awkward point where my parents had decided I was much too old to get dolls for a gift but not old enough to have my own money to buy them for myself (and since I was still me I still wanted them). I remember seeing them on TV and wanting them so badly, they're so cute. They've always made me smile. Then I moved and didn't have a tv or furniture for several years so there's actually a bunch of these I hadn't seen, and while I felt I could get away with buying myself a Furby from the 2012 reboot, I wasn't confident enough yet to buy a Lalaloopsy for myself considering I literally bought wrapping paper and a random card with the Furby so I could pretend it wasn't for me (very silly, I've very much grown out of that).
    If I could have only one Lalaloopsy I'd want Haley Galaxy because aliens are one of my favourite things, and she's so cute.
    There were also the special edition collector dolls, the Target exclusive holiday themed minis, the build-a-bear collab, and the amigurumi style soft dolls. I remember I never got any Lalaoopsies because I was afraid they would stink.     as a kiddo, I begged for one of these, eventually my parents got one for something like my 11th birthday. I was given dot starlight. I had forgotten I owned one up until I watched this, but I immediately recognized her blonde hair and chrome outfit with red buttons. Despite being probably the furthest thing from her skin tone, that didn't matter to me. Being a kid who was obsessed with the cosmos, I loved her as much as much as one could love a doll.
    I remember these came around right around the time I was starting to "out-grow" dolls in my preteen mind! I was definitely more into Monster High at the time but my little sisters were *obsessed*, to the point of even coordinating with our cousin on which ones to ask for so theyd have a whole set with no duplicates when they had playdates. That being said, I definitely joined in and loved the 'almost-Coraline' vibe they were giving! And their little pets! I do recall watching an episode or two of the show over at my cousins but we didnt enjoy it too much as we had already made designated attitudes/vibes for certain dolls and not all of them matched up, obviously. I think we kindof fell off of them around the time we started seeing babydoll-sized lalaloopsies! So fun to reflect, get info, and share experiences on everything you cover Lu! (Fun Fact: My younger sisters name is LouLou and we always called her LouLaBelle! :)
      Added Character Commentary: I actually DO remember Mittens being labeled as an eskimo! She was actually the 'popular girl' in our games and there were definitely mini fights on who played with her! We definitely noticed the skintone but just labeled her as tan! I wonder what my youngest sister (who's mixed) thought of her at the time. I know she loved Dot! Crumbs was the main character often. Bee was our classical mean-girl. Pillow was always shy/sleepy/softspoken. I also remember the freakout when the babies came along!
  • @shiningskiess
    my first lalaloopsy was pillow featherbed, i got her at a walmart when they were still called bitty buttons. i still have the poster that came with the doll and it’s hung up on my wall!! and i have the doll too but unfortunately her sweet lamb got lost when i moved :( i even still have her sleeping eye mask! i still love sleepy motifs and pillow featherbed is my favorite lalaloopsy doll for sure. i love sheep as well so i think its fitting :3
    funnily enough, i actually have a vivid memory of an earthquake happening while i was crafting a house for her out of cardboard !! its the only earthquake i remember going through. i never did finish the house because it was a bit too ambitious for my crafting skills at the time XD
    i was clinically obsessed with the minis.   • @BinglesP
    I used to play the game a ton when I was very little!!! I remember the ice skating pond in the snow-themed area and I thought it was so cool that a 3D PC game showed the tracing of the skates when you'd do it. It was definitely a thought that was the product of the early 2010's
    Also I love that you made a pun at 18:25 and didn't say anything like "I'll see myself out" or even pointed it out after the fact. Part of me is tired of that whole Whedonism-esque gag about hating someone's own puns but telling them anyway
    Lalaloopsy is basically my favorite doll line ever and is also what got me into doll collecting. During the original run, I bought Forest Evergreen, Prairie Dusty Trails and Little Baa Peep, and a friend in Canada found a Pillow Featherbed in excellent condition in a thrift store and sent it to me as a gift. I later acquired Jewel Sparkles and Mittens Fluff n Stuff in the 2021 reboot.
    As far as the Nick Jr cartoon goes, I loved it. An interesting fact is that the voice of Spot Splatter Splash was none other than current pop star Tate McRae when she was a kid.
    This was such a fun video to watch even if it's all just info dumping about the toy lines lol. I'm a man but my guilty pleasure since I was little is being instantly hooked to anything "meant for girls" when it came to animated shows and toys. So ofc I also had a phase with Lalaloopsy.
    The dolls were really really rare were I live and very expensive too so it wasn't really common to see many girls around owning one at all but ofc there were always some few exceptions. But honesty just watching the trailers for the toys and the music was enough for me.
    When it comes to Lalaloopsy I think the thing I enjoyed the most was the show lmao and here is were my little baby brother carried me like a champ cus thanks to me being the one that took care of him on afternoons I always had the perfect excuse to watch the Lalaloopsy tv series (with him).
    And well, now I'm an adult... with money, maybe one of these days the nostalgia is gonna hit hard and I'm gonna end up buying one online.
