  • The era of "Googie" design and architecture is half a century ago - but in many ways, it feels fresher than anything that's come along since. The optimism and brightness that comes out of these buildings and their facades still shines out like a sign of what humans are capable of when we believe.

Thanks. Back when buildings were pieces of art.

If my local bank branch looked like those beauties, I'd start physically going to the bank again 👍

In my analogy even though it's not a bank I think the forum building in Inglewood California used as a sports arena ect looks like the same type of style design architecture visually as some of these circle bldgs I saw now in this video. Interesting

I remember the one in St. Petersburg as it had a restaurant on the top floor. The savings & loan crash of the late 1990's and wiped that line of banking out completely. WIth the consolidation of the banking industry, the mega banks are interested in profits over style. Naturally, some of these vintage structures are still in use today either as banks or reimagined into other uses. Do people still go to bank branches in 2024?

Unfortunately, today banks are retracting, since it's not longer necessary to have actual buildings for customers to come to. So these kooky structures that were built in abundance in the postwar boom economy are being closed and often demolished, since the banks are no longer using them.

Gravel Ridge had an Eagle Bank that was inside a trailer.
