Excellent! I never knew the term Googie until now. But grew up during the George Jetson era. I ended up working for Hanna barbara studios 10 years later after The Flintstone season ended in 72. I love Googie!!!!

Love this video, thanks for the rundown 😊

So I grew up in the midwest and we had a few Googie style architectural gems there as well. Namely Arby's and Red Barn and a few old style McDonald's of that time and for the high faluent folks, Brown Darby as well.
I never knew of the style by name, until I stumbled upon a fellow architecture enthusiast who's channel is focused around John Launter. He went in-depth on the Googie Coffee Shop specifically and explained the design and construction of the restaurant and what eventually spurred the infamous style! He also explained how Lautner loathed being associated with it because it seemed to have pigeon holed him while his work had so much range and styles beyond that one and styling.
Nevertheless, love your channel and the explanation of this style as well. And while there are those in the comments who seem hellbent on the pronunciation of Googie, it's honestly splitting of hairs and one can assume, some form of insecurities that pushes them to react in such a manner.
    Thanks for the insightful video!!

The style is NOT '"infamous." That word does NOT mean "really, really, super, mega-famous." Look it up if you have to.

@xqqqme what are you even talking about? Of my entire comment, you nitpicked a single word and decided to attack my use of it because you think (loosely using the word think) I see the style as "really really something or other cool"?
If you want to engage in a debate over my opinion of the architecture and design aesthetic of Googie, by all means, let's. Otherwise, find yourself a life somewhere else.

You're saying it wrong! It's not "GOOJIE" as you're saying it. It's pronounced "GOOGIE" with a hard G like the "G" in "BOOGIE WOOGIE"

haha, I just spent 10 minutes going down a Google rabbit hole trying to figure out if it was pronounced with a hard or soft G

Glad I saw this. I knew the term, but had never heard it pronounced. I always used a hard "G". Was trying to reprogram my brain as I watched, but am glad I was right after all!

I think he can prounounce it the way he prefers...he's the one who studied the period. He's the one who put in the work and the time, and I super enjoy the content and delivery of his productions.
It's a Living Language, and it belongs to @Michael Pacitti - and to you and me - as much as it belongs to anyone. AND if Bennet Cerf doesn't like that,
then send him to me and we can debate it.

How on earth do you screw up the architectural style name? How do you prepare for this and not know how to say the name or apparently not think to question the pronunciation? Shocking!

    • @VisualLearningDesign

"Hello Paulie! Thanks for watching the video! While I appreciate your feedback on pronunciation, I'm curious to know your thoughts on the overall content, including the music and visuals. If pronunciation is a concern, perhaps engaging someone from another country to pronounce it as desired could be an interesting approach. Let's focus on the broader aspects of the video too!" Try building on the strengths before identifying the weaknesses!

      Thanks for your response.
I grew in L.A. and had been to many of those places. And being an architectural buff, your video was interesting to me.
But I cut short watching it due to the many times you said the name.
I've done long-form audio/video projects and the first thing to do is research ALL names no matter how simple the name appears
Prime example is photography "experts" who mispronounce Diane Arbus.
Looks easy, but she's named after a character in a play by Shakespeare and it's: Dee-anne. She's pretty famous yet people assume what appears obvious.
I get taking down the video and re-doing the audio track is not possible ... or is it?
Is this format your specific area of interest?

I think that he can pronounce it according to his informed preference. He's the one who did the work and studied and produced the content.
American English is a Living Language. I think there's room for a modern alternative pronunciation, of a proper name that became a label. I like to think that you and I - and Michael Pacitti - can exert some influence over it. If Bennet Cerf wants to argue with me...send him over!

@@paulolden4337 I like seeing productions that show improvement over time. That means I ALSO have to see some that weren't so polished and finished.
I like to watch the evolution and transformation.
It's ike listening to The Heroic: if the early parts weren't stumbling and reaching and seeking....then the end wouldn't be so triumphant, and enjoyable.
Of course, that's just my personal preference.

Denver has a few high end ''googie'' style diners. trying desperately to be cool with the 60's Space Age lighting and same terrible food from the 2000's , you're very much paying for the atmosphere and not the food when you go to a fashion themed diner. LOL $14 pancakes. o.k.
