  • I needed some binding posts for an upcoming project and paid a small fortune for some off Amazon. When they got here I noticed that they were actually shorter than what I needed - so I decided to make my own and so can you!
Make your own using these files:
    github.com/SimpleElectronicsY...
    You'll need some hardware too:

On the spacers that sandwich the case I would suggest adding a lip on them so that the threaded rod can't shift and touch the casing, fine for a plastic case but a metal one will need it.

I was thinking of that but it would mean you couldn't just add it to a 6mm hole - but I did drop the files on GitHub so people can mod it as they wish!

@@SimpleElectronics you could always print a thin spacer ring to add instead to go between them, to act as a grommet.

I was thinking the same thing while watching the video. If you use these binding posts in a metal housing, a short circuit is lurking...

I noticed the same problem. But these are still cool.

      maybe use an o ring

Nice video. If you are drilling the threaded rod for use with wire or pin crimps then the easiest way is to 3D print a jig to hold the threaded rod and to provide a guide hole for the drill bit.

Print with ABS, put the knobs in acetone vapor and they will be smooth like glass.
It will look like they are factory made.

Thanks for sharing! Ideas... Drill a hole in the post, to clamp bare wire. I have used PCB Copper Tinning solution to tin Brass. Dual hole spacing is 3/4"/19mm, if I remember correctly. There are Banana adapters that will screw onto your posts, IIRC. I think I saw them on Uni-Byte's YT channel.

The little ring is there to keep the threaded rod exactly in the centre ensuring no touchy/conductivity to the sides. So I would add those. Other than that, great design! Love it!
Bang! Afterthought: You can always put a put of heatshrink on the the rod that goes through the hole in you case to keep in from shorting.
Edit: I see I am not the only one who suggested that. And indeed. It is not hard to make lip if you want if the design files are there for grabs :) So thanks for sharing!

@@SimpleElectronics I don't have a need for them right now, but everything open source is something I try to remember for "if" and "when". And of course when I am ready, Google will point me in the right direction! :)

    Hi why Brass?

Much more conductive than steel, much cheaper and more corrosion resistant than copper!
