Nope Never used that team in Gen 2. I used NidoQueen Gen 1 with Bubblebeam, Thunderbolt, Icebeam and BodySlam. Gen 3 Leaf Green tried Sandslash can't recall move set off hand. I tried a SlowKing in a gen game forgot which one. Noctowl recall gave up on it in Gen 2 thus outside other Gen game yep for me never used that team. Crystal no idea why Clefairy was my 1st level 100 Pokemon either when never did Cleafable.
I hope you do a “Rivals Best Team” series. It’s where you create teams that can counter every best team that you’ve done. Hope you do something like that in the future; other than that, keep up the great work!!

I actually love Noctowl and Sandslash. I love the design, even if they aren't the most viable options, and I've got both on a HeartGold nuzlocke team right now. I also prefer Nidoqueen to Nidoking. I like the more defensive stat spread.

No Ariados? That was always my obscure little addition in the Gen 2 games, still is. Not because it's good, it's NOT, it's not even the best poison type in a gen more than a decade before poison OR bug types got thrown half a bone. I just always play with it because I like it and it's pretty little spider face. One of the short list of pokemon I'd want for my partner if I lived in the pokemon world.
Noctowl in Crystal was my first-ever shiny (excluding the red Gyarados, of course). Sadly, I didn't get to enjoy it much because my save file corrupted not long after. Dunsparce is really fun to mess around with in later generations due to its Serene Grace ability. I had one on my team in Y and it could hold its own. I used Sandslash in Yellow once. It was alright; it got the job done. I don't think I've ever really used a Slowking before. Nidoqueen should not be underestimated. It may not be as good as Nidoking, but the difference isn't all that great; it can still do anything Nidoking can do. I remember experimenting with Sunflora in Crystal. It was... something. I was having fun, so I guess that's what matters.
Dunsparce is my favourite pokemon, and is a legit beast if properly ev-trained. Glare or thunderwave to paralyze and slow your enemies, then bite and headbutt to make them flinch, and something to keep it alive, like rest, roost or leftovers. Unexpected and hard to deal with if you use it at just the right time in the match.
I would swap out confusion with return in noctowls moveset, which gives him a great normal STAB move that often overshadows fly. And then once reaching Kanto, I would immediately go fix the kanto power plant before doing gyms to get the XPN card, then wake up Snorlax and head over to Viridian city in order to grab dreameater. Then I'd replace nightmare with dreameater which actually gives noctowl a useful method to make his special attack count more for the latter part of the game. It's a small upgrade in my opinion since with Noctowl you're gonna spam return mostly, and use fly against pokemon with weakness to it. But it can be a good way to deal with stronger pokemon, and/or pokemon weak to psychic. With confusion, you'd never really get use of it since it gets 120 power when super-effective while return gets 150 power just through STAB bonus. Thanks for the video, it was a nice one! :)
You'd love my sun and moon box with junk mons i try to redeem with z moves etc, i had a really good bulky assault vest sunflora and a z move sandstorm/stone edge, i can't remember nidoqueen but i also had that in silver too
Nice team comp. I’ve used Sunflora before, and theyre not as bad as you would think. Really solid for water/rock/ground types and growth/synthesis/giga drain is also nice. I think maybe some Pokémon like Lanturn/Ursaring/politoed are also a bit more underused.
My favorite team to play through Silver and Crystal used to be: Typhlosion Umbreon Noctowl Scizor Slowking Ampharos Once I played it through with only bug pokemons and my team was this: Heracross Ariados Crobat Forretress Scizor Gyarados only for Surf etc.
I actually used nidoqueen in my original playthrough as a kid. She's my favorite of the two and in my top 10 favorite pokemon. I bodyslammed and ice punched everything. I'm so happy to see her here
My sisters team for Pokémon Crystal was Meganium, Slowking, Noctowl, Espeon, Weezing and Electrode. She was one of those lucky ones to get the kings rock on her slowpoke she caught.
I've used Noctowl, Sandslash, Nidoqueen, Slowking, and Sunflora, but never all on the same team. The first 3 are ones I tend to come back to in other games and Gen 2 replays, though, mostly for how much I love the designs.
Dunsparce is my favorite. Total meme Pokémon. My GSC moveset is, well, actually good, so maybe it doesn’t fit here, but it is Curse, Zap Cannon, Headbutt, and Rest.
I just finished my adventure on Soul Silver using only Johto pokemon and it feels really great to beat a game without overused pokemon, I used Lanturn Heracross Xatu Quagsire Bellossom and Magcargo
believe it or not the first two members of this video was on my OG johto team from my pokemon gold and also used sunflora lol. the team was thyphlosion, noctowl, quagsire, amphoros, sunflora and dunsparce. brought this same team back when I got heartgold then I finally revamped my johto team.
I've used Sandslash, Nidoqueen, Noctowl, and Dunsparce in a team together before, but I definitely have never used a sunflora xDx mightve used a Slowking in another run, but I remember using those other 4 in my 2nd Crystal playthrough. Always been a Sandslash fan, always loved the Nidos, Noctowl looked cool at the time, and Dunsparce I was convinced would evolve into a dragon until it was about lvl 70 xDx man, I both remember fondly and with disdain how much misinformation went around back then around pokemon games ( Mew under the truck, 2nd S.S. Anne trip in RBY/RGY, dunsparce evolved into a dragon, Pikablu, the list goes on.
Funny enough I've used 2 of these before on the same playthrough in Nidoqueen and Sandslash, but I ain't never gonna use sunflora when every single grass type in Johto outclass it
Gameboy gold was my first ever game and my introduction to pokemon, it was all new to me, and i still somewhat remember my team of that time. Meganium, Hypno, Pidgeot, Quagsire, Raticate, and i think the finall member was the butterfly i evolved from the first poke that catterpe that i got. it was a very weird team honestly XD. but i wouln't mind trying something similar once again.
My current SS team I’m running with is: - Maganium - Scizzor - Slowking - Raikou - Misdreavus - Tyranitar (I try to never use legendaries on my team but I have never played with any of the dogs and Raikou is my favorite I thought it would be time to use him for a playthrough)
This seems to be pokemon so weak you dont use them vs pokemon that just dont get used. So it seems like a semi rehash of worst teams. Noctowl is an insanely common playthrough pokemon. If you want just uncommonly used this is your list: Dunsparce Unown Wobbufet Tyranitar Houndoom Murkrow Skarmory Slugma Any stone evo(especially sunkern) Any trade evo And shuckle
No lie I've used this team for crystal when I was little. Sandslash because of that episode when sandshrew was strong in that circus. Noctowl because ash has difficulty catching him because of hypnosis so I thought it was strong. Sunflora because sunflora was strong in one of the episodes and then I think he finally got accepted. Slowking because pokemon 2000 made him seem super strong because he was a main character in my 8yr old brain. Nidoqueen because she was strong in the orange islands against ash and the episode about the 2 nidos falling in love but can't be together. And dunsparce or however you spell it because he didn't appear alot for me in the tunnel and I only saw him at night so I thought he was super strong and it was hard to catch at the lvl I was at.
My team was not as common but plausible, I had feraligatr, jolteon, victreebel, wigglituff, togetic, and golem. Believe it or not wigglituff was the mvp with the elemental punches plus it was shiny so that made it even better
Yeah that is a unique team. The only pokemons that I actually use from that team is Sandslash because I like it but I don't use it often because I try to use a gen 2 only team when I play crystal. But I always use Dunsparce because it is my favorite pokemon of all.
I don't know why but watching this video got me thinking about a gen 1 rock team. I mean there are 6 rock types in gen 1 but only 5 available in 1 playthrough.
Me having Dunsparce and Sunflora as my favorite Normal and Grass type not only for Johto but for the WHOLE franchise... And Noctowl as my go to Flying-type on G/S/C on gameplays were I limit myself to never use Gen I mons (because Murkrow is only postgame) The other 3 I never used on Johto tho (but have used Sandslash and Nidoqueen on Kanto), soooo, 3 out of 6 lol.
Sandslash definitely deserves more love! I used one in my first Crystal playthrough and it was my lead for the longest time. That f****** shrew could tear up the whole elite four by himself. And it was only like level 55 or 60! 🤷🤣
I don't use 1. Shuckle 2. Qwilfish 3. Furret 4. Cursed miltank 5. Noctowl 6. Xatu 7. Ariados 8. Magcargo 9. Dellibird 10. Wobbuffet. It's good but it's also attacking moves are counter destiny bond and mirror coat.
DUNSPARCE IS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE POKEMON AND I HAVE USED IT IN EVERY GENERATION ITS BEEN AVAILABLE IN! And I don't do it as a meme. It is legit my favorite and the one I always have on my team. It was also my first ever shiny. Also Noctowl, Dunsparce, Slowking, Nidoqueen, Sandslash, and Sunflora... that is literally what my Crystal team was. The moves were different, but this was my Crystal team.
I literally just played through Crystal over the past couple weeks for the first time where I actually leveled up a whole team legitimately (as in I owned and played it as a child but only ever really had one or TWO maybe Pokémon that were over leveled and then relied on legendaries later game) and it was kinda hard with the old mechanics and that damn gen 2 exp curve, but… anyways my team ended up being Shiny Jynx (thanks odd egg) Meganium Arcanine Lapras Umbreon Pidgeot :)
I do not completly agree with your opinion on Sunflora. Sure, Sunflora hasn't the greatest stat, but it's special is pretty good and it's the only grass-pokemon who learns decent grass-moves early on. It's the only pokemon who has Mega Drain lvl 10 (most grass-pokemon doesn't learn a decent grass-move before lvl 40) and also Growth and Sunny day (lvl 4 and 19), with this Sunflora is really usefull. Sunflora learns Petal dance at lvl 31, wich is pretty early and good aswell. Compare this to a Oddish-Gloom-Bellossum, sure they have better stats, but the only good grass-move they learn is Petal Dance at lvl 44 (and you need to wait evolving your gloom). Not to have any stab-moves until lvl 44 is really bad (they learn Acid lvl 24, but that's a poison-move). I take Sunflora any day on my team as my grass-pokemon. The only good exception as your grass starter in Johto is Chikorita.
I have only never used sandslash and dunsparce. I don't think even in gen 1 I have ever used a sandshrew for anything other than evolving it to fill the pokedex.
Never used this exact team all together, but Slowking is the only one of this bunch I never used ingame. I've been known to use Noctowl from time to time. I have a Dunsparce and a Sunflora on my Crystal team right now, and not for the memes- I just like Sunflora and _really_ like Dunsparce (legit my third favorite Pokémon) Sandslash featured heavily in a recent Nuzlocke I did in Crystal, though tragically died to a Graveler's Self-Destruct, and I've used Nidoqueen many times, albeit more in Gen 1, but I know I've used it in Gen 2 at least once or twice.
I’m shocked Porygon wasn’t considered. It’s blocked by being purchased at the game corner and it’s basically a glass cannon. I mean I’ve also never really heard of anyone really using it on their team. It’s too grindy to acquire. To be fair, the same could be said about gen 1
My first shiny ever was a sunkern and then ended up loving it with the solar power ability and solar beam killing multiple Kyogres in the gen 3 remakes
My original team for Johto (which for me was HGSS cause I never owned GSC) was Meganium, Noctowel, Flareon (cause I had beat Cynthia’s Garchomp with it XD) Furret (not as an HM Slave) Ampharose, and finally a Dragonite because dragons are awesome!
I've only ever had a problem beating Morty once and I kept losing over and over and over again. I remember how I finally beat him and I felt so stupid for not doing that to begin with. my final time I kept resetting and got tired of having to lose to experience to start the battle over and decided to take the loss and sent out my freshly evolved level 20 Fearow which I figured was gonna be one shot with a shadow ball only to get the text "IT DOESN'T EFFECT FEAROW" I forgot he had the normal type and I one shot his Gengar with a critical Aerial Ace and got the badge. ever since I've beat him with a Rattata using bite as for Whitney I use a female Drowzee with disable to eliminate rollout and the dreaded falling in love issue. once you come up with solid strategy and can execute it the hardest gym leaders will become push overs
I think flareon would be a good choice to go into this team too, cause it doesn’t suck but who goes out of their way when they have an Eevee to get that? Like umbreon and espeon debut in this gen
I caught a shiny Alolan Sandshrew in my digital copy of Pokémon Ultra Sun and named it Bluebelly, I kept it as a Sandshrew because I enjoy the shiny and it was a full odds shiny when I was grinding out my Pokédex. I have my best shiny luck with Gen 7, as I usually fill a box full of shiny Pokemon in the ultra games, and got a few full odds, no grind, shiny mons, like Bluebelly and my purple Mareep. A challenge I have is to have someone fill a box full of shiny Pokemon by any non hack/GameShark means in the Ultra games
I'm a massive sandslash fan! It's actually my favorite pokemon of all time. But yeah, it's definitely not great in gen 2. haha I'd give it slash or return over strength. And dynamic punch and fury cutter are rough choices... Slash, dig, sand attack, and defense curl might be a better option. I don't remember what other TMs it learns. Rollout's pretty good on it, though.

Just played through crystal with poliwrath, slowking, and pigeot. Didn’t have much trouble till the elite four, entered at lv 42.
I ALWAYS use Noctowl in my in-game play through a since Silver, I like this already
…and actually, I used Noctowl and Nidoqueen in Soul Silver 😭
Funny enough, in my last SoulSilver playthrough, I used 1/3 of this team. Sandslash and Nidoqueen. It was a fun but frustrating Mono-Ground type run.
My sisters team for Pokémon Crystal was Meganium, Slowking, Noctowl, Espeon, Weezing and Electrode. She was one of those lucky ones to get the kings rock on her slowpoke she caught.
Nidoqueen had same stats as nidoking too which was definitely the best non starter in gen 1
I just finished my adventure on Soul Silver using only Johto pokemon and it feels really great to beat a game without overused pokemon, I used
Lanturn
Heracross
Xatu
Quagsire
Bellossom
and Magcargo
believe it or not the first two members of this video was on my OG johto team from my pokemon gold and also used sunflora lol. the team was thyphlosion, noctowl, quagsire, amphoros, sunflora and dunsparce. brought this same team back when I got heartgold then I finally revamped my johto team.
I loved slowking. It just socks it takes so far into the game to get it.
You think your team is weird? (Laugh track) Well, meet mine! These are the Pokémon I've never used
Well Slowking's attack was better than I thought. That Shadowball won't go completely waste.
This was a complete curve. I've always liked the slowking look never had it unfortunately. Great series right here
My recent Nuzlocke run of gold finished with Typhlosion, Nidoqueen, Slowbro, Xatu, Eggseggutor, and Jynx
I think Donphan would be less likely to be used than Sandslash
Funny enough I've used 2 of these before on the same playthrough in Nidoqueen and Sandslash, but I ain't never gonna use sunflora when every single grass type in Johto outclass it
That one person that used this team: and I took that personally
I've used Noctowl, Nidoqueen, Sandslash, and Slowking on a team before. But I also had Houndoom and Gengar so very close
6:39 sandshrew look like hes rippin a fat one lmao
My current SS team I’m running with is:
- Maganium
- Scizzor
- Slowking
- Raikou
- Misdreavus
- Tyranitar
(I try to never use legendaries on my team but I have never played with any of the dogs and Raikou is my favorite I thought it would be time to use him for a playthrough)
This seems to be pokemon so weak you dont use them vs pokemon that just dont get used. So it seems like a semi rehash of worst teams. Noctowl is an insanely common playthrough pokemon.
If you want just uncommonly used this is your list:
Dunsparce
Unown
Wobbufet
Tyranitar
Houndoom
Murkrow
Skarmory
Slugma
Any stone evo(especially sunkern)
Any trade evo
And shuckle
My first play through of this region was feraligtr, ariados, noctowl, ampharos, umbreon, and donphan
All those pokemon were definitely used when the game originally game out
Nidoqueen is actually the more defensive of the two nidos, also the elemental punches are all special attack based
If only the virtual console of the johto games were able to trade online than I would have no problem trying to have a slowing for a team like this
My team was not as common but plausible, I had feraligatr, jolteon, victreebel, wigglituff, togetic, and golem.
I used Noctowl a fair amount, then again I also played Colosseum a lot so I used a bunch of odd Pokemon there, and so used them again in Crystal.
Me having Dunsparce and Sunflora as my favorite Normal and Grass type not only for Johto but for the WHOLE franchise... And Noctowl as my go to Flying-type on G/S/C on gameplays were I limit myself to never use Gen I mons (because Murkrow is only postgame)
The other 3 I never used on Johto tho (but have used Sandslash and Nidoqueen on Kanto), soooo, 3 out of 6 lol.
Sandslash definitely deserves more love! I used one in my first Crystal playthrough and it was my lead for the longest time. That f****** shrew could tear up the whole elite four by himself. And it was only like level 55 or 60! 🤷🤣
I don't use
1. Shuckle
2. Qwilfish
3. Furret
4. Cursed miltank
5. Noctowl
6. Xatu
7. Ariados
8. Magcargo
9. Dellibird
I always use Sandslash so
I literally just played through Crystal over the past couple weeks for the first time where I actually leveled up a whole team legitimately (as in I owned and played it as a child but only ever really had one or TWO maybe Pokémon that were over leveled and then relied on legendaries later game) and it was kinda hard with the old mechanics and that damn gen 2 exp curve, but… anyways my team ended up being
Shiny Jynx (thanks odd egg)
Meganium
Arcanine
Lapras
Umbreon
Pidgeot
:)
Bro Do Rom Hacks And Tell the team For it or recommend
Haha jokes on you MysticUmbreon, this is the team i used i my VERY FIRST PLAYTHROUGH (i say, lying through my teeth)
I used dunsparce as a kid trying to figure out why it didn’t evolve but I brought it through up to the elite four till I gave up trying to evolve it
I have only never used sandslash and dunsparce. I don't think even in gen 1 I have ever used a sandshrew for anything other than evolving it to fill the pokedex.
Ah mystic umbreon assumes that I have not used this team again. He would be right 😆
Never used this exact team all together, but Slowking is the only one of this bunch I never used ingame.
For the ruby, sapphire, and emerald one volbeat is option but I used it was a beast
My current Crystal team is: Meganium, Skarmory, Mr Mime, Donphan, Poliwrath, and Jolteon. I'm intentionally using Pokemon I've never used before.
I used Noctowl and Nidoqueen, thats about it. Always had Feraligatr on me
I used Dunsparce in Soul Silver. Actually amazing early to mid game with stab serene grace headbutt.
Sparce is one my favs I use him somewhat frequently
But yeah, it's definitely not great in gen 2. haha
I'd give it slash or return over strength. And dynamic punch and fury cutter are rough choices...
Slash, dig, sand attack, and defense curl might be a better option. I don't remember what other TMs it learns. Rollout's pretty good on it, though.
Slowing is a mandatory pic for my Gen 2 games lol. I always name it Oxforde.
