  • Hi everyone!!!
First, sorry about the crappy camera work... Out of frame shots & very shaky rookie work, get a bucket ready.. LOL
I got this kit from The RC Elf about a year ago...Thank You so Very Much Man!!!! It didn't take long to build, but it takes me forever to wanna paint... Lack of enthusiasm I guess, but I did want to do a good job and make it look good, I did notice today (the day of recording) that I forgot to finish painting the steering wheel. The reason for that is, I wanted to use l a silver necklace as a "Chain Steering Wheel" however, the buggy's "wheel" area is deeper than I thought and I simply forgot to paint it, Of course I remember now... That's how is goes, right?
    Now the fun stuff....
I'm also doing a motor swaps at the same time as running the buggy..
Today was the stock 380 motor & a silver can 540 motor with a 17 tooth pinion I took from my Tamiya Sand Viper (It will go back in).
** Next set of motors is the Tamiya Super Sport BZ motor & Trinity Paradox Pro Stock motor (discontinued). Which one will be faster? **
Tamiya Holiday Buggy 2010 Kit #58470
The RC Elf also sent a set of Fast Eddie DT-02 bearings for the buggy... They will go in after the next motor speed test, then all 4 motors will be ran again
    Thanks for Watching
Any questions or comments, please leave them below.. All are welcome!!!

Thanks man, He sure is... I sat on this kit for about a year, working on here and there... I wanted what needed to be painted to come out really good. I have 2 more motors to swap, then I'll put in the bearings and do it all again..

Great stuff, Bob! That 540 woke her up a bit! Good job you are testing the other 2 motors though as more speed is required! Hope you feel better today and can get out and start where you left off, can't wait to see how those timed motors go! ATB mate! 😎😎👍👍

Thanks brother Mark... A 540 will definitely give anything a kick in the pants (rear end) if it came with a 380... That said, the 380 don't over power the tires or suspension. Next is the faster motors.... I can't go nuts with motors cause it still has the Tamiya TBLE-02S esc and 23 turns is its limit for brushed motors. Lets face it, even a 13.5 brushless motor is like that of a 3200kv motor, 3200 x 8 = @ 25,600 rpm... This is just a guesstimate, cause no 2 motors are the same. All though the Tamiya 13.5 brushless motor will be smoother feeling, run longer cause it's more efficient (as long as you keep temps under 120 degrees F) plus brushless motors require less maintenance than brushed motors. Some guys still love the feel of a brushed motor.. Kinda sucks finding good quality brushed motors like the ones from yesteryear, EPIC, YOKOMO, TOP, ORION just to name a few. I say bring them back, people will buy them... The problem is, no one wants to buy a $140 plus esc to run those hot brushed motors. I talk too much.... ATB my friend...

I know your a Tamiya FanBoy, However, and I'm just pointing this out, Did you know that some 27x1 turn stock motors are and can be faster than some 14 turn modified motors? Look for stock class racing from around 2000 plus/minus 6 years either way. I don't know the outcome yet.... Look at some LRP motors in the UK man, some very good looking motor at a great price. Problem is, an ESC to run them low turn motors. An old Tekin 420 esc 4 cells to 20 cells and a 12 turn motor, that's FREAKING HOT!!!! I miss those good ole days with stuff like that...

I know, I seen the videos and got me looking for a Kumo.... No luck. The RC Elf did good with this kit, Everyone into RC should have one!!!!! Oh, btw, my Fox... I have a new gear box, suspension arms, wheel hubs... the only thing I need to find is the steel rod and mounting hardware... Does the NovaFox have those? I need to look...

Hey Bob, love these types of video where we actually see the difference in the motors and bearings. My experience with bearings is it made very little difference in lap times but the car picked up noticeably quicker and I am sure had a slightly higher top speed. We’ll probably see that in the top motors rather than that 380 😜

    • @UncleBobsRC
      @UncleBobsRC  Год назад +1

Thanks Craig... I'm doing the 4 motors first with box stock kit build, then, I'll put bearings in (I only have rubber sealed bearings but that's fine) and do the motor tests again. I will be doing the motor test with bearings in reverse order, meaning, the first will be the BZ, then the Trinity, then the silver can 540 and last, the 380. With all that done, the 380 will stay in the buggy.

Nice to see this. I’d say BZ next.
Sometimes I’m not feeling like recording a video either. But I still do - life has ups and downs. I just record what is and share.
It’s cool to see all the different motors and hear your knowledge in the area. 👍🏼

Hi there Bob, a great comparison of a stock 380 motor, to a 540 motor jumping from 11mph to 16mph (ironically breaking the speed limit of the dirt road that you were on 😂😂). Looking forward to seeing the next series of upgrades to the Paradox and then the BZ motor to see what those upgrade do to the performance. Marvellous my friend. Best wishes to you and the family 😊

Hi John.... I never did a test like this so it's new to me but has been done by others.. Just so you know, I have a Trinity P2K2 Pro "STOCK" motor that yields a 32,953 RPM, that's in the range of a 10 turn modified brushed motor or @ a 4000kv brushless on 8 volts, and that's a stock motor... 27 turns wound 1 time (27x1) just like a 540 silver can but with different thickness of wire and lots more timing and better quality control (back in those days). P2K is a 2000 era motor. That said, I don't remember the RPM of the Paradox motor. Best wishes to all.

Thanks brother... The 380 will find its way back in, I'm just having fun with it. After the next 2 motor swaps, bearing will go in and I'll do the speed tests again but in reverse order so the 380 will be last.

Uncle Bob, the Holiday Buggy handled both motors very nicely, 5mph difference from the 380 to the 540 motor. So what do you think the speed will be with the paradox pro and the super spec motor will be? 🤔🤔. Take care👍👍👍👍👍

    Cool video Bob..... enjoyed that!
What a superb gift from Mr Elf eh mate, I know a few people who are huge fans of the holiday buggy.
Always interesting to see exactly what gains are achieved when switching up running gear.
Looking forward to part 2,that things guna go like s**t off a shovel with the superstock BZ!!
Those superstock series motors are my default weapon of choice in most of my cars....
got a TZ, 2 BZ, and 3 RZ!
They are very punchy for a 23 turn brushed.
Is that GPS meter out in preparation for Fils TT02 speed challenge fella?
Rumour has it that Uncle Bob is stepping up to the challenge?!!
    Awesome!! 😊

Thanks James, I wasn't "feeling it" making the video but I did it anyway.... I'm not putting my money on either motor just yet... It is well known that some "Stock" motors are faster than some modified motors. Both the Trinity & Tamiya have fixed timing, the Trinity is @ 24 degrees and the Tamiya, as far as I can tell is at @ 24 degrees also.. Now it comes down to turns & wire thickness, the Trinity is a 27 turn by 1 with 22awg wire, if memory is right. The Tamiya motor, a 23 turn wound 1 time, I don't know the wire thickness. I think, thinner wire = faster spool up, while thicker wire = more power... without getting really deep into this.. Bottom line, lower turn motors (3 slot, 540 size motors) are usually faster than lager turn motors, As we all know a 23 turn is faster than a 27 silver can motor, a 19 turn is faster than a 23, a 13 turn is faster than 15 turn and so on.... Now LRP in the UK sells these motors... LRP V10 SPEC.6
      Type540 Brushed, timeable 2 Pole - 3 Slot
      RPM (at 7.2V)33.500
      Voltage input3.7 - 7.6V
      Shaft diameter3.17mm
      Motor diameter35.9mm
      Weight156g (+/-5%)
      14x2T
Problem is, finding an ESC to run such motors and LRP makes a few, How good are they? I do not know, I cant seem to find them here.

You are certainly a wealth of knowledge on motors Bob, years of experience and racing/tuning.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the results of these other two now!
I generally try to keep things fairly simple and compatible.....
As I have quite a few cars, most being vintage or re re (very few modern designs) I generally stick with 'boring' Torque tuned, Sports tuned, GT tuned, Technigolds, and Superstocks.
ESC wise I use TBLE-02S, Hobby wing 1060's and Manual speed controls (in my restored vintage cars!!)
These all work very well together, and allow me to get a decent balance of power/performance for each specific model, but with mechanical empathy for the old cars they are running in.
I used to dabble with fast motors and high power early ESC'S when I used to properly race in the 90s, but these days my ageing eyes/slow reactions just wouldn't be able to keep up with anything fast!
Saying that, we have decided to enter Fils TT02 speed challenge this year...... consequently being tossed head first into the daunting world of brushless!! 🤣 😂
Neither me, nor Taylor have much knowledge on the whole brushless thing..... but, it should be a good laugh, and potentially a death sentence to Moo moos TT02! 🤣 😂
What could possibly go wrong eh bud?! 😂
