I just finished watching the movie and, honestly, I didn't feel beaten over the head with any kind of environmental message from it. Plot heavy, not character driven. Some shots of hallways looked like Ripley Scott alien. But came up short and was in no way a masterpiece. Feels like it came out 10 years too late.
Prometheus had a trained biologist disrobe in an alien tomb to pet an alien snake which then breaks his arm, or something, I don't remember. Alien had a blue collar driller look into an alien egg with his helmet on, which it then eats thru to throat rape him. One is believable and one is insultingly stupid.
I don't mind movies that have messaging in them or some sort of deeper meaning, especially seeing as how most sci-fi films have some sort of message or theme that's a critique of modern day culture/politics. Just as long the story is well executed and everything else about it is good, films like "Starship Troopers," "Avatar", and "Sunshine" come to mind. Both Avatar and Starship Troopers were pretty damn heavy handed but they both fully committed and also executed everything else real well. Despite Avatar had a very well-worn plot, and yet because it was executed so damn well that it still managed to keep you emotionally invested. So im hoping that this wont bother me as much as it did you guys. I mean nothing can be both as heavy-handed as well as a complete failure on all other fronts the way "Terminator: Dark Fate" was, amiright!?
That seems to be the trend as of late. Not just the Political or woke messages, that has always been in entertainment in one for or the other, But the one-upping of Political and Woke crap being shoveled out. Each new movie seems to be a bigger billboard of "I'm so woke, and Righteous and. Blah, blah, blah." From the writers and directors or whatever, and the stories suffer.
Unpredictable tragic events begins with an earthquake. This film begins with the unknown. Audiences are not privy to a backstory as how the submarine is causing distruction. Alien vs predator like theme. Overall a good film i give it 3 ⭐⭐⭐
It sounds like if this movie was directed by James Cameron it would have been a Blockbuster. It sounds like this movie had the makings of a blockbuster and need a really good director and lot of technical achievements.
Im afraid that if they make a 40k movie the space marines will have massive shoulder syndrome. Too often i see space marines with these STUPID BIG shoulder guards and it looks terrible. Give us a 40k movie that focuses on the imperial guard, has a few well done CGI SM's at the very end, and involves the horror of fighting chaos. It could be an action horror war movie thats grounded, gritty, and terrifying.
I don't think it was an environmentalist message, Joe. I think it was a reference to the opening of Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu. Later on, in the secret station that the Captain said was destroyed, in his belongings was a sketch of Cthulhu. The same one that Lovecraft made. This monster wasn't a Cthulhu lookalike. It literally was Cthulhu. "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."
It kind of is. It's a Cthulhu/Dagon/Shub-Niggurath figure that they say is Cthulhu but there's a major detail missing; Cthulhu is telepathic so the characters in this movie would be about halfway to being as insane as the Event Horizon crew in _Event Horizon._
I know this movie came out in January but I just watched it, and to me that wasn't Cthulhu. I am a HUGE Lovecraft fan and to me Cthulhu was just shoe horned in there. The only way that we knew that it was Cthulhu was because the Director said it was. This is wrong. There was very little indication at all that this movie was in the Cthulhu Mythos. He explained that the name of the company was called Tian because 'LovecrafTIAN'. The there was a little picture of Cthulhu in a locker and that was it. No other references to the Mythos. Now, if they said anything about Arkham or if one of them was wearing a Miskotonic University shirt then yes I would believe that this was Cthulhu. But there wasn't and the director just said it was. I still liked the movie but IMO this was not Cthulhu.

nope, it's No Man's Leviathan.....
or No Man's Dep Star Six
or No Man's Abyss
but I say leviathan cus it's cooler and has Robocop I mean Peter Weller in it and the 4'th Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson and the Colonel himself Richard Crenna.....
It a lovecraft movie, it’s not about environmental stuff.
It’s a reimagining of the call of Cthulhu, but I assume you’ve never read it, sooooo.
Plot heavy, not character driven. Some shots of hallways looked like Ripley Scott alien. But came up short and was in no way a masterpiece. Feels like it came out 10 years too late.
Ripley Scott heh
DUDE I WAS THINKING STARCRAFT ENTIRE TIME I SAW THOSE SUITS HAHAH
Will the real slim shady please stand up... and get a different haircut for one movie
Literally it's Deep Star Six shot for shot remake complete ripoff
14:04 wow...kinda rude
Was anyone else waiting for Eric Cartman to be riding the monster 🤣 that's all I could think about was the South Park BP drilling episode
Still listening here.
Didn't even know it was Lovecraftian until the deep ones showed up so, as a big HPL fan, I was onboard.
Love the shirt, how long is it available?
James Cameron : The Abyss AND True Lies, 2k, 4k, less blue alien quintology and more love and care for your past, glorious achievements 🙏
You guys know there's a 40k Netflix show coming up?
If they added an hour to the runtime and developed the characters more then it would of been good.
For the "message" reference it's from "don't be a menace to South Central while drinking your juice in the hood"
kinda sounds like a Meg plot Act 1 but with twist into something else on act 2 and 3.
I didn't really get any sense of environmental messages xD until Joe mentioned it.
The Black guy died first (not technically but practically in a horror movie)
I don't know how any of the characters in this film could turn to each other and say "Lets go!".... WHERE?! WHERE ARE WE RIGHT NOW?!
I just found the original working title: Generic monster movie #37268
I thoughfully disagree, just saw it and Id easily give it a 7 or 8/10 I thought it was really excellent.
