10:40 I'm pretty sure that strat in the listing is actually a boxer strat,Most of boxer strats came stock with humbuckers and only have two knobs, like the one in the listing,Also, the difference between an ST-62 And ST-362 are that the ST362 is a non vintage style Fender Japan vaguely based on a 62 model the ST62 is a nearly vintage style 62 strat higher end,Also ST-362 Are more common left handed for some reason,You can also identify them very easily,The ST-62 Has a thin fender logo and the 362 has a thick fender logo in the headstock
Dude you should turn this into a series! Had this playing while I was soldering and changing strings, it was a fun and relaxing listen. Really enjoyed this!
Aria and Eastwood also make Hi-Flier clones. From what I've seen, the Aria seems reasonably priced, but for the price that Eastwood is asking you might as well just buy a real one (unless you buy one from Reverb I guess).
I used to own a new and used guitar stor in the late 90s/early 2000s and we got the original Fender Jagstangs and Vista series (Venus, Super Sonic, Music Master Bass, jag master) They were totally foverlooked for the most part but were awesome and def ahead of their time. They were high end Squiers essentially in cool vintage colors. Speaking of great vintage colors… This Jagstang is doing the Sonic blue yellowing to a daphne look. The 1990s Jagstangs were also built in the Japanese custom shop, like the vista series, I believe. So, not only better quality but an older guitar is naturally going to be more resonant due to water molecules in the wood evaporating, leaving tiny holes which act overall like resonating chambers. New, kiln dried wood is not devoid of water. It is a quick process used to rush wood into production so it a corner cutting process that overall leaves a lot of room for the wood to age and dry out over the years. A 30 year old guitar will always sound better than a new one w the exact same hardware, pickups etc. if you just want a new guitar that has only been yours then buy the new one. If you want a bit cheaper, aged and worn guitar you’ll come out a head sonically. The new ones are built in Mexico which is where the Cobain Jag is made along with many of the artist signature guitars like the Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster etc. these guitars are rumored to use American bodies and necks which are imported to Mexico for assembly but I’m not 100% on that. I can say I’ve owned both the Cobain jag and the TVL JM and they were solid very American feeling Fender guitars…
I’ve picked up two different Jag-Stangs, one for under $400 that needed a refin and some light work, and another for like $800 that plays so well but got refinished in a silver house paint color which peels off easily but I love how that looks
that overpriced modded squier, i'd probably try out the "make an offer" option for the first time (never used it before) see what happens. maybe with a message "these are $ amount new, and the only mods are this and this," see what they say back. because that is a total rip off otherwise...
1:47 I’m willing to bet it’s a Cobain body with all of the hardware / pickguard gutted out. I bought a Cobain jag modded the same way. Replacing the neck plate is a bit weird though.
The Cobain tax is even worse for us lefty players, there aren't cheap lefty Mustangs options (aside from the Harley Benton MS60 but no Squiers so it is either the HB or a very rare Fender Mustang), Lefty Jaguars are pretty much non-existant aside from the KC Jaguar (well there are MIJ Jaguars but there aren't too common and most likely you would need to import them) and lefty Jagstangs are more readily available but in most countries are insanely over-priced as there is no competition even in the used market (in my country they are 1800 USD brand new and there are non existent in the used market so it is quite literally your only option) Crazy that Fender never decided to capitalize one of the most famous lefty players in history doing Squier alternatives, I wouldn't mind a Squier Bullet Mustang, Affinity Jaguar or even a Classic Vibe lefty Mustang or Jaguar would be nice, I get that lefty players are a minority but come on lol
I feel for you guys! That is a shame they dont make classic vibes in lefty, even if they had to charge a little bit extra. Are you in Australia? I hear from many the guitar prices there are craazy!
@@loungeact1212 I'm from Chile! and while a lot of stuff is expensive (aside from Japanese, Korean, etc brands those are more or less the same as in the US, Europe or even their native countries) if I had to be a little bit more positive I would say that at least stuff like that are available here (expensive, but available) but hey, at least helps dealing with GAS, you can't have GAS if you have nothing to buy even if you wanted lol
I actually saw most of these 2 days ago when I was looking for a new guitar. Ended up going with a 1999 sonic blue mustang with a humbucker already installed
The cobain tax is real. Thats why I like to get cheap squires or harley bentons and cobain them out lol I do own one of the eastwood hi fliers and don’t understand the hate on them. Having owned an og hi flier I feel like they are very close
Yeah I don't understand the hate for the Eastwood ones. People rip them for having cheap electronics and hardware but so did the original hi fliers. Lol
crazy people ask for the prices on these guitars. people seriously, do yourself a favor and save some money go to a pawn shop. all of my "cobain" guitars have been picked up from pawn shops and flea markets etc and then i just fixed them up myself. plus its a fun hobby if youre able to do so. a jagstang for over 1k? one of the worst guitars ever?!? dang i remember buying mine in 1996 for about 400 bucks
I really like your channel and your content. I think you, perhaps more than many nirvana ppl, would understand my point of view in thinking the obsessive desire to have (as precisely as possible) virtually the EXACT guitar as Kurt Cobain, or really anyone else, is just kinda creepy. At what point does it begin to get a little like the character from that Eminem song from the early 2000s where that fan seems kinda normal but then you get beyond the superficial base layer and the guy is fiendishly whackin his gherkin dreamin about being the guy's lover. Be inspired by the guy. Be inspired by how he appeared to shop for music shit. Be inspired to find your own version of a bastardized student model, or maybe a one-time mass production guitar, maybe one that not every single person has, that no other famous player has sent the price skyrocketing because they own one, and make your own way under your own steam. Honestly, the modern equivalent of the "grunge guitar" would probably be an early 2000s higher-end First Act POS. One made of poplar or something, one with decent shit but yet that nobody wants because the name First Act screams 'BEGINNER.' Lol. Maybe a modern version of a grunge guitar would be like. Idk. Godin guitars from the early-mid 00s.

Good info I will pin this! Do you know if the boxer Strats came with a one ply black pickguard like that?
@@loungeact1212 Yeah,They came stock with black pickguards

Thank you! It was fun to make.
oh what’s up eric
Univox hi fliers for what people are asking is insane
Harley Benton makes high flyers
@BandXshow used to, not anymore. They're getting rid of their stock and not making anymore

As a Beatles fan, there is definitely a Beatles tax on guitars too
Ahh I see maybe I'll explore that in a video. Lol
I’ve saw someone put up a jagstang with small changes and set the price for 3k…
Oh wow thats kinda high. Great job on your channel! I like it.

Good stuff here! Yes definitely agree, the aged guitars are special for sure.
not too long ago you could get a hi flyer for like $50, i wish i had picked a couple up and put them in a safe😂

i just want that damn left handed skystang >:( great video btw :>
You can find those vintera II mustangs “on sale” for $800 new at a couple places, so finding one used for that price isn’t exactly a deal.
Yeah I've seen that but those are returns/blemish also but yes cheaper cause shipping is usually free.

Serious question is why they stopped making guitars like skystang reissue?
I bought a phase 2 Univox hi flier last year and love it. I got it for 800$ Canadian, and man have they went up in price.
They really have!
Kurt is still king.
Thanks for sharing cause I'll probably buy the jagstang
Sweet! That's a nice one.
get an original model if you can the cheap reissues they made were terrible in my opinion and didn't feel as good.
I was looking at this stuff earlier at school
I was doing the same thing
What a fantastic video as always have a great day also happy new year from Canada and also last night was my friend birthday in January 14th ❤😊
