seems he liked crap guitars
I like you channel name if you know you know
10:46 what a pathetic sight
Got absolutely no time for anyone that treats instruments like that..a luthier likely puy many hours into making those guitars.. and a talentless arse like that destroys them. That goes for Townsend too. Just sickening.
I agree, I’ve never understood how a true guitarist could destroy an instrument, I know sometimes it’s a cheap, garbage guitar that gets switched out just before the “smash” but to take rare instruments and smash them is just unforgivable to me. I have about ten guitars, I baby them and freak if they get the slightest scratch.
Just goes to show you that top artists have a different perspective as did Fender who gave him guitars to deliberately destroy on stage. In reality, ordinary people cherish their instruments but they can all be replaced by others.
I remember when guitars like Fender Jaguars were super cheap before Nirvana hit. Every kid was still wanting a Les Paul like Slash. Weird.
Could you imagine being stupid enough to spend this kind of money on destroyed guitars?Wtf are people thinking? If he hadn't died nirvana would have faded into obscurity and those guitars would have been worthless, which they actually are.
im wondering why his stuff turned out to be expensive what is his significance? im also a fan but for me hes not that good he made only few songs and album compare to others, oooop i think it is the suicide made the guitars overpriced🤣🤣🤣
Kurt's significance: He provided 80's hair metal music with a much needed enema and washed them out....that's all...
Smashing guitars, in hindsight, was a very silly thing to do. A pointless waste of instruments.
I thought the mosrite was stolen at during the nevermind recording sessions?
@@Tiibero it was shortly after they finished up Chris said it was right after the Jabberjaw show in an interview
The high prices are ironic considering he only played cheap "garbage" guitars that other guitar players didn't want.
Thanks for not saying 'iconic'. And you're absolutely right.
Could you imagine being stupid enough to pay millions for garbage?A fool and his money.
Wonder how msny are fakes and sold anyway
if i were that kid Courtney Love gifted a guitar and my Parents sold it i´d be pissed at my Parents
Great video, Thx
What a total waste of talent.
while he paid around $100 for these guitars and fender offered him the rest....
With sappy , the verse is the hook, while the chorus is so so, if that song had a great hook for the chorus it would've been huge, tho it's still one of my favourite songs, the verse is so catchy!
When you’re buying an acoustic it better be Martin or Gibson, if it’s Taylor.. you’re out the crew
Just here for the JagStang baby 🙌
They play really well and sound great - might even be the best Fender of all - as long as you can stand the 24" scale.
Jagstangs are gay.
Very interesting observation, please elaborate
@donhopf i dont like them lol. Fenders knobs interfere with palm muting and i hate them.
So was nirvana.
The what stang? 😂
11:18 the guitar Isaia Silva was kidnapped over
11:07 can’t believe he smashed thatbone
4:56 it’s even more significant for being a rare Gospel
0:55 I have the same guitar, near mint. Paid $200 for it 😊
Sorry I dont know much about Nirvana. Do you think he destroyed his guitar's so people could not make money selling them? I know destroying guitars is part of the rock seen though. Cool video.
Kurt talked about the smashing of his guitars a few times but his logic about why he did it is still hard to pin down. If I had to guess I'd say was really about embracing a destructive, chaotic impulse he felt within.
I think he thought of it as entertaining. Watch the end of the paramount show he drags the vandalism strat all around. Lol
@loungeact1212 Good point, there's definitely showmanship going on with it.
I saw somewhere a while ago Butch Vig saying it was because Kurt hated encores, so he’d smash his guitar as a way to end the show when he wanted
The only thing I don’t agree with what Kurt said is that it’s not about the material. actually it all is about the material. Especially in 2024. image is everything ., namebrand is everything ., and viewers want to see their favorites with certain things and if you can’t capture the viewers attention then you have nothing. nobody will hear you and you might as well be a bedroom Guitarist for the rest of your life the gatekeepers will black ball you from the industry. It can happen to anyone no matter how rich or famous. Perfect example look at what happened to Machine Gun Kelly and Drake. 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️ js .
He hated guitars , he had a unique style though.
If by unique you mean mediocre.
It makes me sad these guitars are bought up by oligarchs. At least sometimes they are put up in museums but still it’s depressing. They should be put on display and not sitting in some degenerate crypto bro’s office.
God damn, he would puke if he was around
You buy them then
They went on auction, why didn’t you buy one?
@@777Lateralus my point is it’s sad when these guitars end up in private collection where the public can’t enjoy and admire them. Paul Allen was cool in that he spent a lot of money displaying this stuff……… If I had 360k to blow I’d probably build a community center for kids or create a scholarship for disadvantaged peoples.I wouldn’t blow it on some guitar. Blowing money like that on that sorta stuff for a private collection is a trashy new money move.
Don’t be sad bro. Just love the guitar you’re with.
holy COW that was so Amazing! I had no idea Kurt had so many different guitars that were sold. Fascinating video. I recently moved to Seattle and saw the MoPop exhibit. They still have a few of his guitars in there. The MTV Unplugged acoustic guitar is so cool, 6M Dang! Thank you for making this video - nice work!
Sucks when the guitars are bought by some rich dickwad who is just gonna shove it in a case to collect dust. It's so boring.
Shits crazy
i dig the hi-flier look at 1:06, reminds me of rickenbacker fireglo
Where's his sunburst Jaguar?
I don't think that one was auctioned off. It may be with either Eric Erlandson of Hole or Francis Bean. I consider that the holy Grail if it were auctioned there's no telling what price it would bring.
@@loungeact1212the last two times that it can be confirmed seeing the light of day were during the Doll Parts Music video and when it was loaned to fender so it could be used as a template for his signature Jaguar. I don’t think this one is ever going to be seen by the public again.
@@nathanki1 sad :(
Great video man dig your stuff!!
Much appreciated!
I realized while editing this I missed a Black Nevermind era Strat owned by Kurt Cobain and gifted to Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees, which sold at auction for almost $600,000. I'll probably do another video on that one.
Please do. Was it sold by mark?
Most of the guitars he purchased and owned costs less than $200 each
The con goes on, people making money on his death.
Great research,,Thank you very much.
Another fantastic Video 📹 ❤
First
I can relate, I have been playing over 30 years [am a lefty too], I can play Eruption, can play alot of complex Iomoi/Hendrix leads with my own flair without even thinking about it, I can shred up and down the neck for half an hour playing what must sounds like some pretty complex stuff to a novice, but I have never even formerly learned scales at all and have no idea what I am doing musically, if someone asked me to play in the key of Am no doubt I have done it 1,000's of times but don't know exactly where it is off the top of my head. I have tried to learn basic stuff but, like Kurt, I felt and fell it is a waste of time and I am content to keep playing blissfully ignorant. I actually went to a beginners guitar course last year and just tuning up, the guy said dude, what are you doing here ? I said I just want to learn some basics because I skipped that step when I first started ,, So he tried teaching me a scale and I just started ripping it with bends, harmonics, tremolo picking and the guy was like, well thats it but you are missing and adding a few things, but I could not discipline myself to do it by the book and really, don't feel like I need to.
she killed him and everybody knows it
check out the guitar gear recreation guys; this gospel was the one used to record teen spirit & most of Nevermind (until it was stolen 3/4's the way through recording), they use a gospel through a vox to reacreate the tone & that clean tone in the neck is 100% spot-on the Nevermind clean sound
Called a stacked humbucker. I have one in a Jaguar.
I had to say it but there is a scene from Montage of Heck that Courtney was filming Kurt he does the Outshined Chorus couple times in the mirror. Even tho Kurt is out of his mind on H it cracks me up every time and now I think of it everytime I listen to Outshined..Great video tho..
@@ConcertFootageNate Cool I gotta see that!
I think about that scene too!
Also both artists had covers as their debut singles - 'Hey Joe' and 'Love Buzz'👍
2 of my all-time favourites❤️👌
That's first I've heard of Ben's connection to Nirvana! Also, Dave directed soundgarden music video after reunion
Yeah it's interesting he's talked about it on occasion in interviews. I think he said he was actually in a band with Chad at one time too
Wasn’t that mustang one of the ones kurt n krist made in their own garage’s?
No those came later, had no tremolo, and black headstocks.
