There's not as many suitable cage options out there as you might think for guinea pigs!! Space is so important for guinea pig health and happiness and should be the most important deciding factor! Comparison of the three best cages starts at 5:44 in the video. Also here's two other related videos for anyone researching guinea pig housing, on DIY cages and keeping guinea pigs indoors verses outdoors! 5:58 you got the width of this cage wrong. I think it's actually 63.8 inches. Ik since ur from the UK it's hard for you to do a bunch of american measurements, which is why many US viewers are going to thank you for your patience. I just had to let you know bc then the size would look misleading
The midwest is a great cage and I'd recommend it to starters definitely. I'm currently building a C&C since it is cheaper in the long run, but the midwest is definitely the best of the pre-made cages. I don't know why people would say the canvas is hard to clean though. I spray it with non-toxic disinfectant, let it sit for a few minutes, then either apply another coat of disinfectant if needed or wipe it down with a paper towel. ezpz! The one downside is that it is sort of flimsy like a lot of cages, but I think that has to do with the modular aspect of it. I suggest using zip ties to keep everything sturdy.
It’s nearly 5 years since we got Peppa 💛 I’ve just watched your video and thought how much your channel has improved her life for the better as so much we do for both our piggies is by your influence 😊 the variety of fresh food they have, floor time, C&C cage... we wouldn’t have known about any of it if it wasn’t for you! Thank you Sarah 😊🐹
This video is so helpful to beginner piggy owners! I started with one Midwest cage for my two girls, but I ended up attaching two more so they could have more popcorning room! I would definitely prefer a sturdy plastic base as opposed to the canvas base, but mine has held up well for years. I always love seeing you videos, and I always trust your information. Thank you! 😊
I have 2 midwest cages joined in an L shape for my girls! I used guineadad fleece liners with my homemade pee pads... I absolutely love the midwest! My husband and I are new piggie parents, when I was doing research I binge watched your videos. 😅 Thank you so so much for all the info you shared and continue to share!
I started with the midwest also mostly after doing alot of research but quickly moved to C&C .... it just keeps getting bigger as the herd gets bigger lol
Just a little note: Hamsters don't do well with levels either and their cages are measured in continuous space too 🙂 Also, how old are your piggies now? I've lost track!
Squeak Dreams At the beginning of your video the green haired piggy seems like that’s the same piggy that you had any 2014 video? Where are you were talking about misaligned teeth
@@davianayala2670 hamsters don’t need to climb though and it’s actually dangerous for them. The ferret nation also doesn’t have a base that holds enough bedding for a hamster to properly burrow(they need 6-10 inches of bedding and the base in a ferret nation isn’t even an inch) I heavily suggest you change your cage and if money’s a worry there are plenty of cheeper hamster cages
@@EdgeDaBean I had the hamsters years ago, and money definitely wasn’t the issue as you should know the ferret nation is $400 , and al hamsters are different mine would climb on the walls if I didn’t put the levels in, I also had a nesting box filled with bedding for the hamster to burrow and thank you for the advice but I’m long past hamsters thank you.
i seriously recommend a c and c cage i have a 5 by 2 c and c with a 3 square foot loft and i highly recommend- my two piggies are very happy and it’s super easy to clean.
@@shervinoskouei5425 the only difference is the top and divider. It’s really just wether you want a divider and top. Mostly preference . I got the plus because I wanted the top because I have small kids and it stops them from possibly getting to the piggy’s without supervision
Awesome video!! Important information! I just bought c&c cages from the guinea pig cages store. They are awesome! I also built my own diy cage a couple of years ago out of wood and plexiglass. There is so much you can do for cages and it’s sad that people are still buying the small pet store cages.
I have 3 guinea pigs and I have 3 Midwest cages attached together to make one HUGE cage and my guinea pigs ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT and I use fleece over potty pads but it really easy to clean in my opinion and it and amazing cage
I say go with C&C are the best, as you can make them as big as you want, they are fairly easy to put together, and seem pretty sturdy and last over time. The coroplast may need some updating over the years if your piggies are really projectile poopers, but otherwise...Great video, as usual. I am so glad to have you back on the semi-regular! I love your setup, and the piggies look like they are so relaxed and happy in the fleece bedding with their hideys and tunnels, and I love that lil lamp you have. It gives them mood lighting! As great as the video was, I was too distracted by Lyra and Willow's cuteness. I mean, Lyra in the background photobombing with her "I'm still here. Just snoozin" was just too much! CUTENESS OVERLOAD!
I currently have two young boars in a Midwest habitat plus, and they do quite well. I would rate the cage pretty high the wire is sturdy, my canvas liner has never leaked, and the ramp and ramp covers are sturdy and well-made, and shallow enough for my clumsy pigs. I don’t know if it would be large enough for two territorially aggressive guinea pigs, My guinea pigs were raised together, and have no issues because it’s pretty clear that Dewey is the pig in charge. That being said, it does have some issues: 1. This is probably the biggest issue for me, even though I put it in the exact way the instructions told me too, the canvas liner does not seem to fit the bottom of the cage very well, which can make it hard to clean because I end up having to put one of the back corners a lot looser than the rest of the cage to make it look nice. 2. I would like it if the access doors on the side of the cage or a little bit bigger, I can only fit one hand through there and guinea pigs are prey animals which can sometimes make it a challenge to put my guinea pigs without scaring them. 3. Once I assembled the cage, I saw that on one side where it connected the wires were slightly bent in. This was most likely from shipping, and the wires are not flimsy, they’re very sturdy built, but I could not bend them back which makes the top fit a little strangely. 4. My last complaint for this cage is that when you put the top on and you security latch all the latches on, it actually makes the wire divider bend. I think if they either made the lid a little bigger or if they made the divider a little smaller we wouldn’t have this problem. The divider is also very sturdy built but I just don’t like how it bends so much. Now onto the pros, 1. The wire is very sturdy and it is stood up to an impressive amount of chewing, Because for some reason the wires of your cage are so much more fun to chew on than the multiple chew toys that your owner buys you. 2. Even though the divider bends, the top of the cage is easy to put on and latch, to make it very secure which is good for a house with other pets or small children 3. The divider comes with makes it very easy for me to separate their feeding area and their main area, I found that my guinea pigs only like to pee in the feeding area, and the separator makes it very easy to separate so that my guinea pigs don’t make a mess in more than one area of the cage. 4. The cage was very easy to assemble, the only thing I had problem with was the liner doesn’t fit properly, but other than that it’s so easy to assemble, I assembled mine in under five minutes, no joke. 5. There’s plenty of space for whatever type of hides, toys, curtains, whatever you want it fits, and there’s extra floor space as well, so my two little piggies can run laps in the middle of the night which is one of their favorite activities. 6. The canvas liner itself makes it pretty easy for me to clean, I can just spray it with my vinegar and water mix, and then wipe it off with paper towels, and then replace the bedding. I actually use fabric squares that I cut out of old T-shirts instead of the traditional paper bedding because I feel like it’s a lot easier and it saves money as well. Sorry for writing an essay, but overall I think this cage is definitely worth it, it has more space and it’s a lot less expensive than some other cages out there. Anyway, I hope my little mini review helps you guys!
It’s so nice to see people make videos on cage size! I watched your older videos when I first got my girls and that combined with other research resulted in me giving them 27sq feet of space. I’d like to expand them to a full room in the future but because on do my girls is a bit territorial and can only be with her buddies when she has this much room.
I have a Midwest and it's truly wonderful. Has no smell, very easy to clean and get access to your piggies. And being able to expand their cage is very helpful if you get more Piggy's. I use fleece and it's perfect for it as well. To not have a bad leakage from the guineas for fleece. Use multiple layers of towels under or two towels and two fleeces.i clean their cage once a week. And also add extra padding like old rags in areas that they pee a lot in. I love my Midwest cage. Recommend it.
I started out with a cage that wasn't big enough because we decided to go in for it and bought one from the store and two sweet female guinea pigs named Rosie and Sugar. Then a week and a half later we switched to the Midwest cage, knowing we had made a mistake with the other cage because the bigger one was only a few dollars more. 🤣 I just got it so I don't have a very helpful review on it but I can tell you that it was easy to assemble (we didn't even need the directions) and feels pretty sturdy. I'm a short 11 year old so having this cage on a 16 inch table we built ourselves is the perfect hight.
I’m using 6 Midwests for 6 pigs- 2 pairs are in doubles pair of Midwests with side panel removed so no ramps. Two side by side neighbor pigs have each their own midwest joined at the end so they can see, smell, talk to neighbor but not access. The canvas bottoms are not ideal and never come clean. I don’t have a smell because I clean with vinegar water and line with incontinence pads with hay bedding. I’ve been using these for almost 4 years so they have stood the test of time. When I get up the gumption, I’ll build my own cube cage and line with heavy duty shower curtain liner. My pigs are really large I guess because I still feel like 1 pig in one midwest seems a bit small but when 2 are in 2 cages joined, just seems so much bigger and enough for two. Excellent video 🥰
I have a Midwest cage for my guinea pig and I love it. It was easy to assemble. I use puppy pads on the floor of the cage and put a guinea dad fleece liner on top. The guinea dad fleece liners are worth the money. They wash and wear beautifully.
I use the Ferplast one.Its a fantastic cage, it can be very flimsy but only if you don't have it assembled correctly. It easy to take the whole top off and clean. The only think I don't like is that it can make it very hard to bond with your piggies since there is a small flap on top and two large ones on the side.I do recommend because you can make this cage huge with extensions!
We were sold a cage upon purchasing our babies that we immediately realized was too small. We got the Midwest and are delighted ~ perhaps because we use a fleece system. The fleece is just the way to go for respiratory health, their little feet, and odorless. Once the boys are full grown we may get a second Midwest to make an L shaped house for them. For floor time, we use a playpen and they have plenty of room to popcorn and zoom. We’re really delighted with the fleece & Midwest!
This helped a lot it’s been hard trying to convince my parents to help me with my cage but we are finally doing it I feel bad cause we had my guinea pig for a little over 2 year and now we are doing it.
I just bought a midwest and my guinea pig loves it im in the process of getting them more things I just moved to FL and had to restart with there supplies
I have a Midwest. Exactly as you mentioned, the bottom is floppy, so if you want to transport the cage by itself, it will not work. I put in on top of a coffee table, which fits the same size of the cage! My piggies are babies yet, but I'll add another one when they grow. I was using paper bedding which was not the easiest thing to clean and remove the poops. I'm changing today for fleece (yay!). But in general, I find the cage really good. I also plan to have the top cover so I can bring the boys for a little grass time in summer :)
I have 2 guinea pigs, and we got the Midwest cage! The cage is a little hard to clean, but our piggies love it! I also like it, because it provides a way for fighting guinea pigs to go to the other side of the ramp if they are angry or scared of each other. Although, once we put in lots of placed to hide, and a hay rack, it was a little cramped, and I’d rather a little more space.
Thank you for your comment, yes once extra things so in there I can imagine that a bit more space would be needed, the great thing about the Midwest is that you can combine and extend them 😄
I have the 140 ferplast Midwest cage🙂2 of my Guinea pigs love it! I built in a loft for them just for extra space and it seems bigger and better!!❤thanks for the video
@@SqueakDreams So much more confident now though! Great to see her so willing to have a cuddle after she was originally scared to even take veggies from your hand 😍 Really happy you're back :)
i just used ferret tunnels and wire clippers to join two smaller cages. the ferret tunnels were hard plastic tunnels that had removable collars that let me make sure the girls couldn't move the tunnels. only sort of worked out as the girls each basically claimed a cage each as personal territory, but they did still visit each other in the others cage.
I have a Midwestern cage plus and so far it’s really good it bends sometime like the bottom which is kind of annoying but I’m planning on extending it so I super happy that my guinea pigs will have much room to explore I have 2 female piggies and there absolutely adorable ☺️
Yes I also have the mid west cage it’s a good cage but want to get a bigger cage soon since I have three piggies and fleece definitely helps keep everything clean.
I have a midwest cage and I absolutely love it. I have 2 guinea pigs who are in a custom cage and was given another and unable to bound them all together. So the Midwest cage works great for 1 guinea pig its a little small for 2 guinea pigs. But it works great for shavings and fleece liners.
GREAT VIDEO! Your piggies are SO cute!!!! My two guinea pigs are in TWO Midwest Guinea Habitats connected together. I find that using puppy pads on the bottom of the cage works, however they can be pricey and my boys were chewing the outer edge of the pads. I just use a double layer of fleece without the pads, which works just fine for two pigs. However, if you have more than 2 pigs, you might want to consider investing in 2 or 3 cage liners which can be found on Amazon and a variety of guinea pig websites (like GuineaDad, The Guinea Pig Market, and Piggy Bed Spreads) (To name a few) They are a bit pricey, depending on where you buy them, (you can Also make them using fleece and UHaul padding/moving blankets or bath/beach towels) -Making your own might save you some money in the long run if your looking for fleece bedding. However, it takes some time and not everyone is crafty. So if you don’t like either the DIY fleece liners, the towels, or puppy pads, I would recommend doing a double layer of thick Blizzard fleece (which can be purchased by the yard at JOANN Fabrics and crafts) I have found any fleece works as long as It is NOT plush fleece fabric. (I’m sure there are RUclips videos out there on the difference between the two because it’s hard to explain) I have been using the double fleece layer method for a while and it absorbs just fine. One thing to consider though with this option, is the amount of laundry you’d have to do. I change my fleeces out once every week. Putting small puppy blankets (Which can be purchased from Amazon) under the hay and hides (or wherever your piggies wee and poo the most) Definitely helps cut back on how often I change and wash their fleece bedding. I hoped this helped anyone looking to use fleece or even if you are already using it.👍🏻😁🐖
The midwests are great, I've had a couple for years, the bases do end up being stained easily but don't ever leak. You can chuck the base in the washing machine which really helps keep things hygienic. I've never had a problem with cleaning out but I do use fleece though. Since I have two connected, it's really easy to herd them to one side for cleaning or have them in one temporarily when the others in the wash. I think they're the best option if you don't have the space/resources to build a cage.
I have a Midwest cage currently but I’m switching to a C&c cage soon, the Midwest cage is definitely good for guinea pigs, I just don’t like the canvas bottom. Although the Midwest cage is great for guinea pigs I feel like with the divider it gets a bit small on both sides (just my opinion). I had to remove my Midwest divider because it was taking up to much space. But overall I think it is a great cage :)
I have a penthouse guinea pig cage! It’s 7.5 and it has 2 doors 1 on the front and 1 on the side, plus it has 2 big openings on the top, the bottom of the cage is waterproof and it was kinda hard to put together, and one of the top doors don’t latch on together correctly, it includes a hide, wich I personally don’t like, and the hay rack I don’t like because it will lift up every time you put it on, either way it is a good cage, and my 2 guinea pigs are most of the day free roamed!!! (The cage is 85$ in the USA)
They're SO adorable! Great video! I'm having a hard time purchasing the items I want. When I do a search, nothing comes up, so I can't click on a picture of a hidey but or tunnel. How do I go about doing this, and placing my order? I did choose the fabrics, and any other questions, I know how to reach you, but how do I buy my items and check out? I'm a little illiterate when it comes to iPads and tablets, lol, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I have something similar to the midwest and I think its an alright STARTER cage especially for me but I definitely plan to look into c&c cages soon because as much as I love store-bought i really wanna make my cages bigger for my piggies since i have the room :D
I have the Midwest size cage and i do recommend expanding it. I think it’s perfect for my soon to be guinea pigs (2 piggies to be exact) I am going to expand in about a year!
I have a Midwest cage It was a little difficult to put together and it's hard to transport since it doesn't have a sturdy bottom plus I bought a second cage that adds more room for them so it's a huge improvement from what they were in im able to add a second hideaway and another tunnel I never seen them so happy
Awesome videos! You'd think with such readily available information on YT people of today would be well informed when it comes to any type of pet. But no, they continue to follow outdated and incorrect information generated by bloated corporations. My 2 boys have a 2x4 C&C cage with the plan to expand if needed down the line. One of my boys is a month and half old and the other is 2. I laid out the cage is such a way the baby boy Ian, can run laps (I call it his guinea pig speedway). It's super adorable (especially when I'm trying to sleep LOL). A good cage we used in the past was the American brand "living world" we used the XL cage. Space wise it was much better than other store bought cages, but what I personally did not like is that because it was designed for rabbits, it was extremely tall and made accessing, picking up, petting, and general care of the pigs very hard. It also has a domed lid by design which, again for height, was an issue. It would sometimes fall back on me if hit against anything. I've also used the midwest, and honestly loved it far more over the Living World. My only complaint was, as stated, it was rather flimsy. But it worked just fine for a trio of baby boys I had who were awaiting a cage upgrade (several years back now).
I have a Midwest and a c&c Cage connected for my two boys. For the Midwest cage, on amazon (might have been chewy I use both for shopping for the fur babies) some have a wire top that is nice and I put the wire top underneath the bottom of the liner for extra support and sturdiness. It is a bit of a hassle to clean up the shavings but for the price of the cage and size I definitely think it’s worth it especially if you aren’t wanting to make a DIY cage or you can’t find the proper materials. The bottom of the Midwest is also said to be machine washable when mine got really soiled I took it outside and hand scrubbed it clean in the places it needed it, let it dry out and I haven’t seen any holes or problems with it after doing it. You can also buy the bottom liner or another ramp/cage walls/ top separately for a cheaper price if you need to replace a certain piece of the cage.
I would love to see a picture of your cage please. I have two 4 month old girls and they are growing. I have a midwest cage for them and will want to expand soon because they are growing! Thanks!
We have the Ferplast and it is a very good cage for guinea pigs. Ideal to have a section for the kitchen area in the extension I did remove the inbuilt hide and placed two separate hides instead. Upgrading to a larger cage now as have increased to 4 guineas but perfect for 2 and even 3 guineas.
i’m planning on getting the midwest cage and also getting a second guinea pig for my little boy :) hopefully when i get more money i’ll be able to get a second cage
I started with a midwest cage. It is kinda small but the modular design is nice one thing you did miss is that there are versions you can get with chloroplast or at least there are sites you can get custom chloroplast from. The canvas is bothersome to clean especially in the corners. the one bonus to the canvas is the cage folds up easily for transport so if you do move the cage often it makes it easier.
I have 2 pigs and they have kinda small cages but just enough to run around in but I wish to get them more. I just don’t have the space for them. Where they are now is about 6 feet long and 3 feet wide and that my are taking up all the space that they have, how do I get them more space with a small area?
That you for all your cage videos I'm trying my best to build my piggies a big enough cage because we got a starter kit and they have been living there for a year so it's time for change
You're welcome!! Yes sounds like time for a change - also check out C&C cages if you haven't already as they can be a great cost effective way to give more space 😊
The best cage I’ve ever had is a dog playpen. It’s sixteen square feet and was only about thirty dollars from Amazon. My two piggies live there and I use fleece liners on the bottom.
@@noraboralol4070 Thank you so much for the suggestion! I’ve considered it, but it’s very rare to have a strong bond between more than two boars. If I got another piggie, I could risk breaking apart the bond that my guinea pigs already have. Additionally, I still live with my parents and they pay for the guinea pigs’ food. My parents don’t want another pet in the house at the moment, so I wouldn’t be able to get another anyway.
I have the red hard cage with the hard bottom that you talked about with the extensions and I have the Midwest my two girls love both the same and I’d say besides having to give the canvas a little extra scrub it’s not much harder at all as long as you clean it good once a week if you leave the canvas and just replace bedding then it’s very dirty very quickly
I've discovered your videos this month and I've been binge-watching ever since :D Even though I know a fair bit about guinea pig care, it's always interesting to listen to your advice and ideas. Personally, I can't agree to the 10.5 square feet minimum at all. I feel like a cage that's 160cm long doesn't allow the guinea pigs to run properly especially if there are hideys or other items in their way. I started out with a 200*200cm cage for three guinea pigs. Now I have a slightly bigger cage because I extended my group to 4 guinea pigs. I've never felt like that a much smaller cage would be an option at all. I think 1m² per guinea pig is a good benchmark which is 10.7square feet per pig = 20square feet for 2 pigs. Even though the cages that are recommended in the video are already much better than standard 'guinea pig cages', I still don't think they are spacious enough for them to run, hide, explore, eat... Also, I've found that the bigger the cage, the less often you have to clean which is definitely a bonus :D However, thank you for doing your bit in improving the lives of many guinea pigs! Lots of love from Germany (:
Hey there! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and binge-watching FTW!! Haha 🤗 I absolutely agree, the more space the better and hopefully this video also encourages people to check out DIY and C&C cages too, but that first step to look beyond small pet shop cages is important for a lot of owners, especially those less experienced. Your huge cage setup sounds amazing, what lucky piggies! ❤😃
I have the Midwest cage and I would rate it a 8/10 bc it can be difficult to assemble but once you know what your doing it’s pretty easy and it’s not quite how big I would like the cage to be but it is big enough, and I am upgrading soon so I am happy to use it as an outside pen
I started out with the largest Ferplast cage, but really didn’t like the fact that it wasn’t open top. Only used it for a couple of weeks and switched over to C&C. So much better overall. Unlimited layout possibilities and so much less expensive for materials than buying a premade cage of appropriate size.
I have 2 Midwest cages L shape 2 piggies, I clean the bottom all the time if you don't have a good enough absorbent fleece the bottom gets messy you will clean regularly but it's good enough space for both of them
I have a midwest for my two boys and I’m planning on getting a second one to connect to it when I move and have more space. They seem to enjoy it and I haven’t had any issues with cleaning.
Hi!! I recently lost a pet and I think guinea pigs are an amazing choice for a next step. Question: if I connected two of the Midwest cages, is that a good size for two?
I have cage number 3 (Ferplast Krolik 160) and my 2 guinea pigs (11 weeks and 7 weeks) have a lot of space to run around, even with 4 hideys. I know they would like to have more space, but my appartment doesn't provide that much space so that was the biggest cage I could fit into the room. I have them for 3 weeks and now that they are not that jumpy anymore I plan to give them floor time so they have more space to run around. The cage is located on the ground. It's not that comfortable to interact with my guinea pigs (not for them nor for me) but because of that, they can choose to have floor time and can go in and out of the cage by themselfes.
I might be getting piggies soon, this is pretty helpful! thank you so much, your a livesaver!! :D i'm still thinking of names.. maybe Willow and Peanut, or River and Peanut! not sure yet. Anyway, your videi are the best for sure :)
Hello, I have a Midwest cage and it is quite flimsy so you may need some zip ties or clips to keep the pieces together but it is a perfect size for 2 guinea pig's but I wouldn't recommend the singular Midwest cage with no extensions for anymore than 2 guinea pigs.
Here's the clear plastic bin again😍... could you please let me know how it's called, so I can find then online or where to buy them? Thank you so much😘
I got the Ferplast 160 plus the house extension for my senior Netherland Dwarf and he loved it, bless him! I'll be saving it for whenever I can get a pair of piggies. I wish the base was deeper or I would use it for my pair of mini rex sisters, but they would make such a mess! I live in the US so it's sad that I can't order a pair of the Little Friends 160s and connect them together, it would be perfect! Ugh, so upsetting! 😭
The Midwest cage is very popular here in the U.S., I bought 2, and attached them when I first got my piggies, but as I did like the c and c cage, I wound up making my own cages, as I have 2 very large c and c cages. I do have 6 piggies, 3 piggies in each cage, but I can expand them as necessary. I keep my 2 Midwest cages as a recovery cage, or for a couple of fosters, should I choose to do that. I found with the Midwest, I put thick layers of newspaper down before putting my cage liners in. As far as using kiln dried bedding, it's too hard to clean out, liners are much better. I did get mine for 35.00$ a piece, so they weren't expensive.
I got a multilevel cage and it’s WAY to small, it was really hard to clean and my guinea pigs barley go to the top. I am currently looking for a new cage and it would be helpful to show me one that’s good for two guinea pigs. 💕
That’s awesome! Make sure you get a good cage for them I have 2 currently. I got one from a pet store and she was pregant so I’m planing on getting another guinea pig that’s pregnant and properly take care of her. (We didn’t know she was pregnant when we got her)
i had the midwest cage for a while, and it was lovely. The issue i had with it was keeping it clean, no matter how many times i would scrub the liner it would never stay clean, even though i used pee pee pads, bedding, and even some fleece (until the smell of the fleece, even after cleaned, was unbearable)
I've noticed, that some petstores don't even look at the cage before writing a tag or whatever for them. There's this cage, TIIIINNYYY cage with like 4 levels and all these ramps. honestly the guinea pig wouldnt even fit through the door if you were to put one in. Or a grown size piggy would probably barely be able to turn around. I dont think a rat would fit through the ramps. And hamsters don't really need them, since they're not the most advanced climbers. And back when I got my first piggy, I was like "oh this would be cool" not knowing it's the least suitable cage for anyone. But at least the pet store worker showed me a bigger and better cage that'd be bit more suitable😂😂 although I switched that one out within 3-4 days cause it was not nearly big enough for two pigs and I now use it as a 'quarantine' cage. one of my new additions is in it 'til I can get him neutered and put him in a bigger cage with anoter one. (I have 4 piggies and it's 2 sows and 2 boars and I obv cant put them all together, sadly, I wish I could😩😩 ) And the other day, at the pet store, this lady was looking at a reeally tiny cage, saying "oh you can put your guinea pig in here" it was... literally 35cmx20cm or something?? 5-10cm here or there, not sure. but honestly it was barely big enough for your piggy to turn around. You can maybe fit a hidey in it and a foodbowl and a water bottle, and that'd be it the guinea pig wouldn't fit anywhere anymore.
ive got the firplast 120cm cage from pets at home and its very stirdy but hard to clean out and it still doesnt seem like a lot of room so i have acc ordered a 6x2 c&c cage with a 2x2 loft as a upgrade and im hoping to add more area and to save money to get a third piggy for my two girls
hi, I'm about to get guinea pigs and I have a perfect space for them in my room. but my mum says that it's unhygienic and they won't have enough space? is this true? I'm trying to convince her, what do you think I should do? thx
i have a midwest cage for my two piggies and they seem to love it! i’ve had them for about 3 months and the cage doesn’t stink at all, but it may later on. the bottom does stain with pee
I’m getting my Midwest one today so I’ll add onto my comment with my review once I have it set up and my Guinea pig gets settled in (it’s a cage upgrade and don’t worry I’m getting him a freind very soon) EDIT: my little fluffball loves it and I’ve experienced no problems with it, he definitely needs floor time since it’s on the small side but once I get another cage to attach to it it’ll be perfect. The only “problem” I experienced was him not being used to ramps and he kept slipping down while trying to get up the canvas ramp into his litter box (he’s a very small guinea pig)
Also what bedding should I do in a bigger cage (the space I have to put a cage is about 9 sqaure feet) I use paper bedding but it gets everywhere and it's starting to get a little expensive
I speak a little bit about bedding in the follow up video (link in description). Fleece is a great option and worth trying (cheap fleece throw folded over an old towel for absorbency to start with), you could give that a try! Also see my video on litter training too which might help. Alternatively wood shavings, but I would imagine they will be similar to the paper bedding! Fleece is really good for large cages 😃
Thank you for watching ☺❤

5:58 you got the width of this cage wrong. I think it's actually 63.8 inches. Ik since ur from the UK it's hard for you to do a bunch of american measurements, which is why many US viewers are going to thank you for your patience. I just had to let you know bc then the size would look misleading
my loft (2 by 1 grids) is bigger than the inside of the cage I originally bought for my piggies now I use it as a carrier
Thanks for the big help
Thank you for sharing your review!! Good luck with the C&C cage! :D
Awh that's so lovely to hear thank you Leona!! ☺️
Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much! Three Midwests sounds like an awesome setup!! Happy popcorning piggies galore!
Another good review of the Midwest! Perhaps I was too critical! That's great your piggies have so much space and fantastic owners! 😁
I started with the midwest also mostly after doing alot of research but quickly moved to C&C .... it just keeps getting bigger as the herd gets bigger lol
Just a little note: Hamsters don't do well with levels either and their cages are measured in continuous space too 🙂
Also, how old are your piggies now? I've lost track!
Ah thanks that's useful advice! Willow is 6 years and Lyra is now 5 years! A pair of old ladies!
Squeak Dreams At the beginning of your video the green haired piggy seems like that’s the same piggy that you had any 2014 video? Where are you were talking about misaligned teeth
My hamsters loved climbing up and down the levels when I had the ferret nation
Just built my first C&C cage two days ago- so happy with the decision
The Wheekly Life they are honestly just so good, and piggies love them :)
Do you to buy new correx often or does it last a while? :)
Do you have any rec or modifications for someone with a cat? I’m getting two and love the c and c cage but the no top doesn’t work for me sadly
Where did u get it
We got our hutch custom built! ( we built it our selves) ❤❤❤ we also attached a 2nd run for extra popcorning! 🧡🧡🧡
That is awesome!!
Nice😊
Please post a pic
I have the midwest cage my 2 guinea pigs love it .its easy to clean I use fleece
Thank you for your comment!
@@shervinoskouei5425 the only difference is the top and divider. It’s really just wether you want a divider and top. Mostly preference . I got the plus because I wanted the top because I have small kids and it stops them from possibly getting to the piggy’s without supervision
@@shervinoskouei5425 please get two guinea pigs, not just one!
That being said, it does have some issues:
Now onto the pros,
1. The wire is very sturdy and it is stood up to an impressive amount of chewing, Because for some reason the wires of your cage are so much more fun to chew on than the multiple chew toys that your owner buys you.
2. Even though the divider bends, the top of the cage is easy to put on and latch, to make it very secure which is good for a house with other pets or small children
Thank you so much for your detailed review, I'm sure it will be useful to lots of people! 😁
I read the whole thing!! Very very helpful, I’m getting my first ever guinea pigs and I’m planning on buying this cage Tysm!!
Wow that sounds like a great setup! Oh the challenges of having bossy pigs haha!
Sounds like it works well for you! Thank you for sharing! 😃
Congrats on the new piggies, lovely names! And so glad you got them the bigger cage, thank you for sharing 😁
Thank you so much for your comment and thoughts on the Midwest cages - I'm sure people will find it useful! :D
The ferplast 140 in the video is actually 10 square feet and not 7.5 as stated In the video. I have 2 of them and think they’re brilliant
Thanks Karen for sharing! :D
This helped a lot it’s been hard trying to convince my parents to help me with my cage but we are finally doing it I feel bad cause we had my guinea pig for a little over 2 year and now we are doing it.
I just bought a midwest and my guinea pig loves it im in the process of getting them more things I just moved to FL and had to restart with there supplies
my guinea pig gave birth not to long ago to 4 pups and when i got them they were labeled as both boys so now i have 6 guinea pigs! thank you!
The guineapig forum gives similar great advice re cage sizes and lots more!
I would also like to say this is an excellent video, really informative, worth a watch even if your experienced with piggies
Awh that's such a lovely comment thank you so much!
Thank you for your comment, yes once extra things so in there I can imagine that a bit more space would be needed, the great thing about the Midwest is that you can combine and extend them 😄
Squeak Dreams, yeah! 😀
I have the 140 ferplast Midwest cage🙂2 of my Guinea pigs love it! I built in a loft for them just for extra space and it seems bigger and better!!❤thanks for the video
My two piggies Mochi and Bertie have a kaytee open living habitat and they luv it!
You made a common topic much more fun and interesting! Please give your adorable babies extra loves for me😍❤️
Awh thank you! I will do!
Two great guinea ladies, telling a story, getting the message out there, while looking super cute 👍🥰.
Awh thank you for your comment Susan! 😀
I do have 2 midwest cages put together for my 4 female guinea pigs and it works well for me.
I’m trying toconvince my parents to let me have a guinea pig so I’ve been doing loads of research, and this was super helpful!
That's so lovely to hear thank you!!
I LOVE YOUR GUINEA PIGS AND MY MOM AND DAD SAID I COULD GET THREE
Lyra is so sweet! I remember when you first got her 🥺 that little fluffy ball in a cardboard box, all grown up now
Awh yes me too, she was an adorable baby! And is still incredibly cute 😍
@@SqueakDreams So much more confident now though! Great to see her so willing to have a cuddle after she was originally scared to even take veggies from your hand 😍 Really happy you're back :)
Awh yes, she took a lot of taming and bonding work to finally be trusting of me! Thank you so much! 😃😁
Thank you for another lovely and informative video. You're always cheerful and kind
Thank you! That's so nice to hear 😄
i just used ferret tunnels and wire clippers to join two smaller cages. the ferret tunnels were hard plastic tunnels that had removable collars that let me make sure the girls couldn't move the tunnels. only sort of worked out as the girls each basically claimed a cage each as personal territory, but they did still visit each other in the others cage.
I hope you and your piggies are doing okay. Keep up the amazing work!!💞
Thank you, you too! :D
This video was very helpful! We are getting a guinea pig soon and I was wondering about cages! Tysm!
Thank you!! So glad it was helpful! I have one on DIY/C&C cages too if you are looking into that. I hope you get/build your piggies a great cage 🌻😀
Okay sorry to bother you but how big should my cage be if we would be getting two guinea pigs?
I have a Midwestern cage plus and so far it’s really good it bends sometime like the bottom which is kind of annoying but I’m planning on extending it so I super happy that my guinea pigs will have much room to explore I have 2 female piggies and there absolutely adorable ☺️
That's great, two Midwests together is so much space for them, they're gonna love it! 😀
Oh my goodness when the montage started I nearly died. Sooo cuute!
Haha thanks!! We had a lot of fun filming that! 😀😁
I used to have this one 2:03 as a kid lol they did like the levels tho but I am glad I have a huge c&c cage for them now
Awh the C&C cage sounds like an improvement for them :D
Yes I also have the mid west cage it’s a good cage but want to get a bigger cage soon since I have three piggies and fleece definitely helps keep everything clean.
I have a midwest cage and I absolutely love it. I have 2 guinea pigs who are in a custom cage and was given another and unable to bound them all together. So the Midwest cage works great for 1 guinea pig its a little small for 2 guinea pigs. But it works great for shavings and fleece liners.
Thank you for your review! 😊
I hoped this helped anyone looking to use fleece or even if you are already using it.👍🏻😁🐖
I have a mid West cage. I used coraplast for the bottom & used rip ties to fasten the sides. I plan to extend it with C&C grids.
Thanks for sharing! Yes the Midwests are great for modifying and attaching together, necessary if you have more than two pigs!
Hi Susan, not at all, the website is information only at the moment, ordering is via Etsy and our messages on there. I have just messaged you 😁👍
I have something similar to the midwest and I think its an alright STARTER cage especially for me but I definitely plan to look into c&c cages soon because as much as I love store-bought i really wanna make my cages bigger for my piggies since i have the room :D
I have the Midwest size cage and i do recommend expanding it. I think it’s perfect for my soon to be guinea pigs (2 piggies to be exact) I am going to expand in about a year!
Great advice and sounds like a good plan! 😁
Sophie’s Pets! Same with me! The cage is definitely big enough but I still feel like my guinea pig deserves a mansion😅
Not me waking up from a dream that I had my guinea pig in it from when I was a little girl...now I want another one and I have NOWHERE to put it. 🤣
I have a Midwest cage It was a little difficult to put together and it's hard to transport since it doesn't have a sturdy bottom plus I bought a second cage that adds more room for them so it's a huge improvement from what they were in im able to add a second hideaway and another tunnel I never seen them so happy
Thank you for sharing! The space of the Midwest definitely seems to be its best feature! 😃
Thank you for sharing!
i’m planning on getting the midwest cage and also getting a second guinea pig for my little boy :) hopefully when i get more money i’ll be able to get a second cage
Omg you’re back!! So happy you’re making videos again :)
Thank you! 😄😄
@@SqueakDreams Are you on IG?
Yes, link in description or search squeak_dreams 😊
I have 2 pigs and they have kinda small cages but just enough to run around in but I wish to get them more. I just don’t have the space for them. Where they are now is about 6 feet long and 3 feet wide and that my are taking up all the space that they have, how do I get them more space with a small area?
That you for all your cage videos I'm trying my best to build my piggies a big enough cage because we got a starter kit and they have been living there for a year so it's time for change
You're welcome!! Yes sounds like time for a change - also check out C&C cages if you haven't already as they can be a great cost effective way to give more space 😊
I just built a cage just like yours with a plexiglass side for my two piggies 😊
The best cage I’ve ever had is a dog playpen. It’s sixteen square feet and was only about thirty dollars from Amazon. My two piggies live there and I use fleece liners on the bottom.
You hould get some more guinea pigs! The more the better because they are herd animals after all!
Also, I've found that the bigger the cage, the less often you have to clean which is definitely a bonus :D
However, thank you for doing your bit in improving the lives of many guinea pigs!
I have the ferplast 160 and I actually really like it!
I have two Midwest cages that are connected and I think it’s great!
Definitely agree! Thank you for sharing! 😀
thank you so much for this i might get a guinea pig so this helps alot
Your welcome! 😀
Yes that is definitely enough for 2, 3 and maybe 4
I have a MidWest, but I have a coraplast bottom. I only used the bottom to measure the coraplast
I have a the first one with a wooden hutch. My pigs definitely like it more than the one we got them In. Two feet bigger
More space is always a winner! :)
I dont even have Guinea pigs but I somehow am still interested
Haha, that's good I hope!
I might be getting piggies soon, this is pretty helpful! thank you so much, your a livesaver!! :D
i'm still thinking of names.. maybe Willow and Peanut, or River and Peanut! not sure yet. Anyway, your videi are the best for sure :)
Thank you! I would have to vote Willow ❤😊❤
Hello, I have a Midwest cage and it is quite flimsy so you may need some zip ties or clips to keep the pieces together but it is a perfect size for 2 guinea pig's but I wouldn't recommend the singular Midwest cage with no extensions for anymore than 2 guinea pigs.
Thank you for sharing, definitely agree! :)
Piggy piggies!!!🤗😍🤗, those cages are good for transport, definitely not for living in. Much love from the U.S.
Such an important video to watch- Thank you!
Thank you! 😃
Here's the clear plastic bin again😍... could you please let me know how it's called, so I can find then online or where to buy them? Thank you so much😘
Definitely recommend the midwest cage soon as I put my guinea pig in it she started to popcorn and loved it
P.s I am going to get another guinea pig
I have a mid west cage for 3 guinea pig and i love the cage but it is kind of small for 3 but my pigs love it.
OMG I'm so excited my mums gonna get me 2 guinea pigs for Christmas eekkk
That’s awesome! Make sure you get a good cage for them I have 2 currently. I got one from a pet store and she was pregant so I’m planing on getting another guinea pig that’s pregnant and properly take care of her. (We didn’t know she was pregnant when we got her)
I've started to see how bad my care is. Going to fix that now 😃
i had the midwest cage for a while, and it was lovely. The issue i had with it was keeping it clean, no matter how many times i would scrub the liner it would never stay clean, even though i used pee pee pads, bedding, and even some fleece (until the smell of the fleece, even after cleaned, was unbearable)
Thanks for sharing! Yes the canvas base of the midwest does seem to be a love it or hate it thing! Hope you found a better alternative for you 😊
I've noticed, that some petstores don't even look at the cage before writing a tag or whatever for them. (I have 4 piggies and it's 2 sows and 2 boars and I obv cant put them all together, sadly, I wish I could😩😩 )
And the other day, at the pet store, this lady was looking at a reeally tiny cage, saying "oh you can put your guinea pig in here" it was... literally 35cmx20cm or something?? 5-10cm here or there, not sure. but honestly it was barely big enough for your piggy to turn around. You can maybe fit a hidey in it and a foodbowl and a water bottle, and that'd be it the guinea pig wouldn't fit anywhere anymore.
ive got the firplast 120cm cage from pets at home and its very stirdy but hard to clean out and it still doesnt seem like a lot of room so i have acc ordered a 6x2 c&c cage with a 2x2 loft as a upgrade and im hoping to add more area and to save money to get a third piggy for my two girls
That sounds fantastic! Thank you for commenting! :D
hi, I'm about to get guinea pigs and I have a perfect space for them in my room. but my mum says that it's unhygienic and they won't have enough space? is this true? I'm trying to convince her, what do you think I should do?
thx
Show her lots of info videos about guniea pigs
i have a midwest cage for my two piggies and they seem to love it! i’ve had them for about 3 months and the cage doesn’t stink at all, but it may later on. the bottom does stain with pee
Thank you for your comment! 😊
Are the Midwest cages good for 2 guinea pigs?
Yes the Midwest meet the minimum requirement for two pigs 😊
I’m getting my Midwest one today so I’ll add onto my comment with my review once I have it set up and my Guinea pig gets settled in (it’s a cage upgrade and don’t worry I’m getting him a freind very soon) EDIT: my little fluffball loves it and I’ve experienced no problems with it, he definitely needs floor time since it’s on the small side but once I get another cage to attach to it it’ll be perfect. The only “problem” I experienced was him not being used to ramps and he kept slipping down while trying to get up the canvas ramp into his litter box (he’s a very small guinea pig)
Would the Midwest critter be ok to use? I have cats and a dog and I want be a more solid cage.
I have a mid west Cage and I give it a 9\10
Also what bedding should I do in a bigger cage (the space I have to put a cage is about 9 sqaure feet) I use paper bedding but it gets everywhere and it's starting to get a little expensive
I have a Midwest cage my 2 boy's love it.
Thank you!
