I really like the amount of depth in the bard - vs mage vs- sorc spell progression. I love running both sorc and bard in my party comp, so sorky can pump out the ol' reliable spells and bardy can be the pinch hitter when we need someone to cast ice storm or enchanted weapon.
Level 4 is sad really. You get a couple of super important spells followed up by a sequencer to make use of lower level spells. There's really not much in this level that falls into situational. It's generally just not useful. The honorable mention that is missing is Wizard Eye. Wizard Eye gives map vision. You pair this with any summons and you can control them outside the view range of the party. This is amazing for springing traps, fighting beholders, or with Project Image/Simulacrum (which can both cast spells).
The only complaint i have about this game is when you do a run with a lot of spellcasters, the fight preparations last far longer than the fights themselves lol. Tbf, im playing the android version of the EE. But placing all your buffs, then quick saving to avoid having to buff again if you die, then 5 seconds of combat if you know what you're doing with spells lol. Or immediate death if you dont know what you're doing with spells. Not even a criticism, really. Just a comment on my need to get my ass kicked by not having ideal party composition.😂
Oh it's crazy how that happens! For me personally, I don't mind that fights are resolved relatively quickly thanks to Real-Time w/ Pause. When I lose and die, I lose and die HARD; but when I do, I at least die quickly. With Turn-Based combat (which isn't too bad), if I die then it's a huge time sink to go back after fighting for 4, 5, 6 turns or longer. But I get the sense that you're focusing more on the buffing before combat, yeah, I get that. I kinda see it as a group of guys getting on body armor and checking their ammo and weapons before breaching a house or doing a job. A lot of prep work but worth it if you prep well (and get lucky).
@Redjoy123 I always try to prevent incoming damage where possible, while removing enemy protections. Doing a berserker mage run now which is probably my favorite build. Battle mage is just classic and always OP in most RPGs

Minor Sequencer adds a lot of flexibility.
Imagine someone who doesn't have RUclips and just play this game without stone skin lol
Oh my... 😐
