    Rule 1: Save. Your. Game. Before everything, after everything, in the middle of everything, and if you haven't saved in the last 20 minutes, Save. Your. Game.
    Rule 2: Take that stupid scimitar away from Tris and give him a crossbow. He won't hit anything, but it'll keep him in back where he can do his one job - healing the party.

    As a sidenote: there is a mod that changes the fightmode to a round base system. Like a tabletop round.
    EDIT/UPDATE: Since a few patches ago the option to play with the round base system is already in the game, you don't need a mod anymore!!. You can toggle it with the little hourglass symbol near the bottom of the screen (should be on the left side). Personally I suggest to alter the speed the characters move and act because it is very clunky and sluggish on default setting in my opinion.

    @gurugeorge 5 лет назад +40

    Yeah the Inspect facility and the fact that your characters get to know more and more about the monsters the more they encounter them (through the various Knowledge and Lore checks for different types of monsters) - that's HUGE. (Cool tip: in the Turn-Based mod you can Right-click on enemy names in the list and it brings up their inspect panel.)
    Particularly, it's huge for tailoring the kinds of spells you use against an enemy - for example an enemy that has low Will saves compared to Fort, use a spell that has a Will check instead of a spell that has a Fort check.
    Just generally, while playing Pathfinder, you can get a lot of a sense of how the game works just by occasionally reviewing the combat panel bottom right, to see exactly what's been going on when your character has hit or fired off a spell - you can see in detail how all the buffs accumulate to push a roll just over the edge against something with high AC, for example. It can get quite interesting, and you understand the game better and better.
    Great channel man, keep up the good work!

    Set Kingdom Management setting to effortless if you don't like it being a pain in the ass. It doesn't change the difficulty to custom either, it stays normal, hard or whatever you got it at. Don't set it to automatic, it removes any ability for you to make choices with your Kingdom.

      Eh. I haven't played kingmaker, but on the tabletop it is not super important. What you want to do is to focus on one or two strategies and use different builds to break the game. Gordon McInnes well, a sword saint / monk / aldori defender / duelist will have ridiculously, STUPIDLY high ac and touch ac, and depending on your preferences you can pop into bard or barb to get that uncanny dodge. Congrats, nobody’s hitting you ever again. There are all sorts of variations with dragon disciple and vivisectionist as well, but the short of it is - you can utterly trivialize the game by stacking ac skyhigh. Theres not a single other stat you can stack to a degree where it makes the game easy as piss.

Amiri turned into an inquisitor with Gorrum as her patron and Smilodon as an animal companion is insane. She easily the hardest hitter in the game.

  • @marcellommunoz
    @marcellommunoz 5 лет назад +21

    a few things about the unfair difficulty, it is almost broken:
    Enemies will kill(not going unconscious) in one hit if they ever crit and dropping(going unconscious) your character in two hits if they don't.
    Early on there will be enemies that have ac and attack bonus so high that you can't hit them without getting a 20 and they won't miss you unless they roll 1.
    good thing, the game now has coup de grace(something that I didn't have when I started playing it) that makes the early game incredibly easier by putting enemies to sleep or prone and then using coup de grace on them + proccing a lot of attacks of opportunity, very rarely I don't play on the hardest difficulty and if you are like me prepare to reload a lot and be extremely frustrated early on by the encounters but it gets easier the more levels you get.
    Currently I don't know if it is possible to do last azlanti(only 1 save) + unfair because of the high amount of luck that you need to have on the encounters early on, the only way I did get past the early game was with mods(the most important one is turn based, that helps a lot because you can play optimally it is really good especially with caster classes that can do almost anything in their turn).

  • @ericevans9186
    @ericevans9186 5 лет назад +13

    Some things I like to add. If you want to do a player made party without mods here's how. When you get to Oleg's at the very beginning of chapter 2 DO NOT level your main character to level 2. After you you fight the Bandit raid off and sell off all of the trash loot. you can hire 5 mercenaries and outfit them if you like. That way you can devote you companions skill points into what ever advisor roles you assign them. IMO this gives you a better party overall as well as more effective advisors.
    Edit: I also highly suggest a Charisma centric ability score class for the main charactor as your persuasion skill will make parts of the game go much easier. IE Cleric Pali Bard Magus ect ect.

      @@psevmonim No, it actually is quite cheaper because it's 2000gp when you are level 2. It's 500 gp if you are lvl 1. That's why don't level up till AFTER you done hiring your new party. Now you will have 5 lvl 1 characters and 1 2nd level main character with about a 2250 exp difference in level. Which is seems huge in the beginning . Said difference becomes drastically smaller as you level. BTW Mercenaries get more expensive as you level so by waiting to level you can get a party on the cheap because of course level 1 mercenaries are the cheapest.

    Difficulty : as many have noted on the Internet, and as you do also but more vaguely, Challenging is the closest to the core PF rules and I recommend it for those with experience or who like to play slowly or tactical. Of course, it depends how much time and suffering you are willing to invest in the game :P, but being close to the core rules means the game will be more balanced, but Normal difficulty is fine and can speed up the playthrough a bit.
    nb: One thing I do not want from the core rules though are the Critical Hits: they do waaaay too much damage, making luck/bad luck too extreme (though they require more than just a 20). So I would suggest Challenging, but toning down Critical Hits.

      @@Traumatree no prob! another thing to keep in mind is that she's tanky, but slow so draw aggro with her as much as you can and put her in places where foes have to go through to get to your squishy peeps in the back. also, give her a composite bow as soon as you can, it's an excellent answer for her slow speed. the last thing she shouldn't be without is a way to damage swarms, as they are her kryptonite, it's almost impossible for her to damage them with her sword, so stuff like alchemist fire or acid will make her way more well rounded. that's what i love about fighters, even if you build them a certain way, you can give them a couple of pieces of extra gear to make them useful in any situation. you'd never think to give valerie a bow, and yet she's half decent with a good composite longbow. not nearly good enough to replace your casters or the ranger you get later, but she's a decent backup.

    The biggest tip of all. Avoid "Hard" and "Unfair" at all costs. The developers think that making the same mobs have 2.5x the AC and damage rolls, makes the game "harder". They are wrong. So is anyone who agrees with them. They could of changed the mob densities, or changed the mobs that spawn in particular areas to higher CR mobs. Instead they just think adding blanket buffs to all the numbers of all the mobs makes it difficult. They are wrong, it just makes it IMPOSSIBLE to play without save scumming. Stick to normal, you won't miss out on anything.

      @Hauke Holst
      There is only so much min-maxing you can do before you have to use exploits or extreme meta builds, that have little to do with roleplaying a character. Just the tutorial area alone is pretty much impossible to get through on harder difficulties than normal. Say you have a well-skilled rogue, +4 or +5 modifier on attack rolls from clever attribute and trait picking (which is really really good at level 1), well guess what... You will still miss ALL your attacks because the very first enemies have an AC of 20-22 (melee fighters) and 17-19 (wizards / sorcerers / bowmen). Meaning that you will have to constantly roll 17+ in order to hit every attack. But because this is one of THOSE games you will be rolling below 10 plenty of times. That alone is already difficult, but your enemies also deal more damage and land their own attacks more frequently since attack rolls are also boosted (also +4 or +5 or something, definitely really whacky).
      You can have a pretty damn good AC with 18 and still get hit every other attack. Add the fact that you are level 1, when your HP pool often barely scratches the two digit numbers and you're left with a situation where you constantly get one-shot and have no meaningful options of preparing against it.
      OP is right, the game's difficulty is absolute non-sense - Typical "our game is soooo hard it's special" snowflake difficulty, no real thought behind it or maybe they ran out of time so used it as a bandaid solution, but either way - The developers messed up big time. It always is a telltale sign of bad game development when higher difficulty means raw base stat buffs. Contrary to that it's a sign of good game development when encounters continue to be handcrafted but are mixed up, with artifical intelligence increased or new options for engagements for the enemy factions enabled. The higher difficulties here were simply phoned in and it's not like you have time later in the game to balance it out with extra grind. The game puts you on a constant clock and if you make the horrible mistake of taking your time and enjoying the gameplay, then you get the game over screen. You may even brick a save file if you don't watch it.
      Very disappointing, because the game otherwise is fun, especially with the turn-based mod.

    I love this game. Hard is actually hard. If you don't build your character/s right from level 1 (with knowledge from level 17) you need to restart. You can't respec builds, so hit restart. Your companions aren't min/maxed in a game which requires min/maxing, restart. If you mess up the kingdom management, restart. If you take too long, restart. And I haven't got space for the reload list.

      Well your in for a treat this is a great game, but a very long one. One playthrough can easily take 200 hours. So i would say take a good look at the class selection and pick something that intrests you personally (for me it was a rogue), because your gunna be stuck with it for a long time. There are alot of strong builds out there. Knifemaster rouge, arcane trickster, scaledfist monks, fighters, sylvan sorcerer summoners, rangers, kineticist's are some of the class's that jump out to me as some of the most powerfull.

    •  5 лет назад

      My character is a gish build from D&D. Paladin/Monk/Sorcerer. The AC and saves get ridiculously high. You can either be a tank or sit back and sling spells.

      I never saw reason why play druid. Yes he have same spell pool as cleric but cleric is primary played for energy channel. Healer and buffer. Druid can be played as melee buffer but in late game he is much behind cleric in everythink. Erastil cleric with comunity/animal domain is much better.

    • @Dmorris556
      @Dmorris556 5 лет назад

      More damage output and buffs means less healing as combat is shorter. They also make excellent flankers and handle flankers well. Also summon creatures provide CC, more HP on the field, more AoP on casters and ranged, and level drain sponging. I would still keep 1 cleric in the group for some of the nastier fights, but most of the time I've found Druid>Cleric

    • @shawngillogly6873
      @shawngillogly6873 5 лет назад

      Yes and no. Druids often get these spells a level later than cleric. And also clerics having domain spells and the ability to spontaneously convert other spells into healing gives them more flexibility as a caster. The druid has to prepare every curative spell into a spot. Which is one less druidic spell they can use. I like having a druid. But never as my primary divine caster. Rather they primarily cast summons and control spells and support a cleric.

    • @provalone
      @provalone 5 лет назад

      Never forget the carry weight that an animal companion has, by late game, they are better than any bag and will tank for you. Druid has the utility side covered, but cleric has the buffs all stitched up. Its a give and take sort of thing.

    • @iilhares
      @iilhares 5 лет назад

      I always have at least one person in the party with an animal - often it's my main PC. Get the leopard or the lizard which can trip, and give your companions the beneficial teamwork feats for flanking and AoO. Toss in a fair bit of dex so everybody gets at least 2 per round, and short of high DR/weapon immunities, your enemies are going down hard and fast.
      I love that the earth kinet can bowl folks over with her blast as well, but I'm just otherwise not keen on earth. It has no energy component (should have had acid, I tell you).
