Snap Dave. This week has been Strat fix time for me too.
After 23 years of faithful faultless service I had to adjust the truss-rod of my Strat for the first time since it left the factory.
    Shell 1996 MIJ Anniversay
The slotted nut was still covered in buffing polish when I took the neck off …
The relief had climbed to 0.016”.
It wasn't bad to play but the extra height was affecting tuning on the fretted notes.
    More than it normally should.
A quarter turn dropped it to 0.010 !!! Overshot.
Just less than one eight of a turn got it to 0.012/0.013
Curiously the intonation needed a fair bit attention too.
Not something I had expected as it had been fine up till last summer.
She spent about 7 months stored upright in a gig bag, in a friend's house - stable environment, while I moved house.
All's well now but I was surprised at how much she'd shifted compared to the previous 22 years ...

    • @Draugoth
      @Draugoth 3 года назад +1

It does but at the point of tension, which for a guitar is at the saddle, tuner peg, or locking nut. So, that is to say a fixed point. When a wire breaks from stretching, its generally always going to be at a fixed point. Guitar strings have pretty good ductility, so there aint much deformation if any when you stretch a string during tuning. I find that string breaks happen when the strings lose their softness and become brittle due to oxidation.

I used to play Earnie’s for years, had to change them really often (twice and sometimes three times the week for three guitars) they seem to rust quite quickly wearing down the frets really fast. I changed to elixirs for my jazz guitar and Gibson Pure Nickel for my Reissues and it saves me a lot money. The strings are stable, have a long durability, don’t rust as fast and sound amazing.

Don't be discouraged from the one or two asshats that always say something negative or people that always have to make everything political... You are going to get that anywhere.. Best off to just ignore or delete it. Its your Page and People should follow your rules. Those rules were put in place for a reason.. To help one another and to keep it fun and interesting without the hastles or stressful political bullshit or agendas. Fully agree and understand the reasoning on 6 saddle guitars. On a three saddle bridge however, they have to tilt down at the outsides (strings 1 & 6) don't they? Just to retain the "arc" of the fingerboard radius?

On my Tele, with brass saddles, they are all parallel, despite the guitar having a very curved ('65) neck. As for the radius thing, I don't give a flying fart. Maybe I did so more with the old steel, multi-slotted screw-looking saddles, cos the strings don't slip onto the grubscrews on those. Maybe I didn't.

    Dave, man.
Turn the screws backwards until they sit in their thread, before you tighten them - how many times do I have to tell you!!!!!!!!!
    Otherwise, thanks again.
You sound a bit ‘flat’ however. I hope you are coping with this pandemic okay.

We got 4 rescue cats that live under our beds and scratch anything wooden or Tolex ... I guarantee if that had been left under any of ours beds it would be scratch to crap and beyond.

    The real Q? Is....
Do ball ends sound better than bullet ends? Some real Fender players ONLY use bullet end strings...
And some only use ball end strings...
    Both parties claim superior TONE/VOL.
I CLAIM that, I can't hear any difference , but I can hear the complaints when I inform people that their choice of string is twice the $,.. of ball ends. ....
So, I order some brass tubing (3 sizes of internal diameter) and crimp on small pieces to increase...mass? At the ball end, still no difference... but I charge more$ to do it... and yes a few request it, it has one benefit, the strings don't bind up in the tone block as much, and push straight out when you want. Why anyone would want to read this comment, I'm unsure....

"There are no rules," is defacto, a rule. Haha
Also, adding" lube to a nut slot" seems like a contravention of RUclips policy.
    I ll show myself out.
