Thanks to Zachary Robbins for the excellent video of House Mountain. My brother Jim Warren lived near Little House when he was an English professor at W&L. We visited Jim many times over the years. Wells Warren
Some years back I took photos of this mountain from the Parkway near Apple Orchard and realized it was an exceptional peak. I showed the photos to many people and no one could ID it for me. Took me a while before I found out about the preserve and its trails. I need to bag this one.
Awesome hike, man. Its been years since I was last up there and I been thinking about doing it again. I don’t know but I’m not so sure you can see West Virginia from there. Be interesting to look into that deeper. Almost everyone misses going on out to the cliffs on the north tip of Big House. I only did it by mistake lol but the view is really nice there too. I heard they built a new trail up Little House that is supposedly a little easier. It used to go straight up the mountain. I literally crawled on all fours at one point. Great trip. I didn’t know House was on that prominent peaks list so thats pretty cool.
Yeah you may be right, it's a little further from WV than I thought. Maybe on a clear day you can see WV ridgelines from Goat Point based on the elevations due west and southwest. There is a new trail up to Little House, it is still steep but uses switchbacks and was in good condition.
Hi Zack! Do you remember if that campsite in the grassy area is where the trail junction is where it splits for big house to the left and little house to the right?
so me and the family are thinking of doing our normal trip up to the blueridge around waynesville nc. Do you think it will be crowded this year if there is no way to keep away from people then i dont want to get my family sick.
Waynesville itself may not be busy, but the hikes will be. My suggestion is go during the week, otherwise the popular areas near Waynesville will be slammed. Some of the hikes with less traffic near Waynesville will be in the Middle Prong Wilderness, or the Cataloochee Valley/Heintooga Ridge Road area of GSMNP.

Thanks for the compliments
Good video, nice camera work and narration. I was impressed by your knowledge of VA peaks.
Thanks Steve. I don't always have that knowledge but I study the maps before every hike and memorize the geography.
Great video. Always loved seeing House Mountains from I-64. Now I get to see things from the mountaintop perspective.
Thanks Greg
Really nice views, and that was one awesome trail sign.

It is an excellent hike.
Great informative video. Thanks for sharing 😉👍
Thanks Paul
This has been on my “to do” list for a while. Looks great!
Thank you for this video. Is the 8 miles for out and back total or 8 miles one way
I always give miles as a total
