      KennethKramm Thank you! It was a great trail even without the cave, but that cave though wow! It was really awesome. We are already planning to return with proper gear so we can get deeper inside. It supposedly has 400 feet of passages so we barely scratched the surface. Thanks so much for watching, as always I really appreciate your support!

    Hey Rashid. You and Josh, Peakbaggers For Cancer , hit this one out of the park. Awesome trails, overlooks, and 'da caves. I'm not sure I would have had the "huevos" to dip into those caves. Good on the two of you. Great adventure. I need to get down that way sometime.
    Best

      Jeb & Joe Outdoors Yeah this was a great hike and I had a great time sharing the trail with Josh. I've had my eye on this trail for a long time, I knew it would be awesome, but honestly it really exceeded my expectations. The cave was awesome, we are already planning a return trip to explore deeper down in there. Thanks for watching and commenting, as always really appreciate your support my friend!

    Wow! Awesome video. Great views! It's hard to beat Virginia when it comes to overlooks/vistas. I also enjoyed all of the wonderful rock formations up on that mountain. Not quite the Channels, but very interesting indeed. As far as the cave exploring goes, when you said you all should be jealous, I said, HELL NO I'm not jealous, because even if I could fit (like Survivalist mentioned) I would never go in there. Not me man. LOL. Thanks for the post, this was a great vid.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      ***** Well even without the cave this was a spectacular hike, if I put footage from every cliff in the video it would have been a 30 minute plus vid, the first 3/4 miles of the trail was basically continuous cliffs, then there were a few here and there for the next 3 miles until we got to those big rocks/cave area. It was definitely similar to the Channels, but not nearly on the same scale. I know a few other spots like this, like Kelly Knob in Giles County and a couple of others that are very similar to Channels, but there is only one Great Channels, that place is unbeatable I believe. That cave was for the most part a very tight fit, I barely fit through a couple of spots, seriously thought I was going to stuck once. Josh is a lot thinner than I am and even he had trouble squeezing through some spots. I definitely want to go back up there eventually with proper gear, mainly some ropes, and probably some knee pads cause I whacked my knee real good twice in the same spot, and explore it further. It supposedly has 400 feet or more of passages. We went pretty deep in there, but if its true that its that big then we barely scratched the surface. I'll have to get Josh, or somebody, to go with me though, something like that is too risky to go it alone. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching, my friend!

    Excellent hike with some great views. It seems like I tell you every time you do it, but I enjoy the music. Glad you decided to explore the cave. It looked a lot like a maze or maybe even an Egyptian tomb. LOL. Yes, I am jealous. Great video. Good decision to stay safe. I can tell you guys had a blast. I enjoy watching Ridgewalker's videos as well. Thank you for sharing and Keep Hiking!

    • @SmellNRoses

      Sleeves Thanks, my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the music, thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yes the cave was really awesome, it supposedly has 400 feet of passages. We went pretty deep into it but I am sure we barely scratched the surface. I am already planning to return with proper gear and explore it further. We did have a great time. Yeah Josh's videos are awesome, very professional and cinematic. Thanks again for watching...now we need to figure out how to get Smell N Roses and Sleeves into the same video LOL...

    • @Sleeves
      @Sleeves 9 лет назад +2

      Smell N Roses Thanks for the reply. Being in the same video with Smell N Roses would make me a happy hiker. Although I am not sure I need to be in another person's video after seeing myself in Whatnot987's video. (I saw the comments from Ridgewalker and you.) Maybe I should just stay behind the camera. LOL. Hopefully we can make it happen in early fall when I can take some time away from my job, if that works for you. I am sure we can make our schedules mesh. Take care.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад +1

      Sleeves nah man you gotta be in frame LOL, no hiding behind the camera. Ridgewalker and I both commented that we feel weird seeing ourselves in other people's videos...I think it was probably more pronounced for him, cause he said it was the first time for him to meet another RUclipsr, or to be on hike with someone else who was recording video. I've met several RUclipsrs already so I guess I'm supposed to be "experienced" haha! yeah sometime this fall would be great, just keep me posted on when you have some time coming up and we'll plan something.

  • @RandomButtonPusher
    @RandomButtonPusher 9 лет назад +1

    Those are some grand views on that trail. As for the cave, I'll admit that once it gets to the point of squeezing through tight spots, I'm out of there, lol. But I don't mind watching your fun. Great trip report.

      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      Random Button Pusher This was a great trail, overlook after overlook, and the cave was pretty awesome but very tight fit through many spots. Glad you enjoyed watching us crawl around in there. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      Caveman Outdoors Thanks! Yeah we would have loved to have you there, you would have really loved this trail with all the spectacular views. The cave was awesome but we were missing a few key pieces of gear that would have helped us out. We went pretty deep inside but hit a few spots we could not continue, we are planning to return eventually with ropes and other gear and see if we can go deeper. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      That Hiking Guy Yeah it's kind of surprising it took us this long to manage to meet up for a hike, but I guess it was worth the wait because the mountain was excellent and the cave was really awesome. I would not have been comfortable exploring the cave had I been up there by myself. Thanks for watching, my friend...now we need to figure when Smell N Roses and That Hiking Guy are going to get on a trail together LOL!

      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад +1

      Survivalist2008 Yes we had a great time. Really awesome trail with spectacular views. The hike itself was not very challenging at all. The cave was awesome but yes some very tight fits in places, I felt I was going to get stuck a couple of times LOL! I'm glad we selected this hike, because I've been wanting to hike this for a while but if I had been up there all alone I would not have been comfortable exploring the cave. Glad you enjoyed the video, as always thank you so much for watching!

      +Kentucky Woodsman We definitely have no shortage of great spots on this side of the state line! I have visited southeastern Kentucky a few times and you guys have some awesome places over there too...but there is no place like Virginia! I am kind of biased though LOL! Glad you enjoyed my video, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate your support!

    Man I can't believe I missed this video. Great scenic overlook and you got to do some spur of the moment cave exploring .. I think there are some spots in that Cave I would not be able to fit through unless I lost 50 pounds. Lol . loved the video brother. Two thumbs up for sure

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      +Bob808Knight Thanks man! This was a great hike, one of the better ones I have done in a while, it was a great mountain with many spectacular overlooks, plus got to enjoy it with a friend. The highlight was definitely the cave. I knew there was a cave up there but did not have much information about it. I expected it to be just a bear den type cave, nothing too serious, but we found a really amazing series of tunnels. I have since learned that the cave is reported to have over 400 feet of passageways. It is a very tight fit through some spots, I barely squeezed through LOL. We reached one spot where we would have to climb down a ledge about 7 or 8 feet high. I was confident I could get down, but the rocks were wet and it was nearly a vertical ledge so I was concerned about being able to climb back up. It was clear there was much more to see, but we didnt have the right gear. I'm already planning a return trip and plan to take some ropes and a few other useful items. I will also take some knee pads...I banged my knee twice down in there and that was no fun, I was feeling it all four miles back to the truck LOL! Anyway I hope to return to this cave for further exploration sometime in the future. I thought about you while we were down there, I know how much you appreciate a good cave! Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks so much for watching, man!

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight 9 лет назад +1

      +Smell N Roses man now I'm really jealous. Lol so many passageways to explore. I wish I could join you on your next outing to the cave. I have to lose 50 pounds first though. Lol but it would be worth it.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      Bob808Knight definitely some tight spots down in there, I need to lose some too LOL!

    Wow, what an awesome video!! I have been thoroughly enjoying both yours and Joshua's videos for the past several weeks and that is just so awesome that you guys got to go hiking and filming together!!! :D Two times so far I have been able to collab with other geocaching vloggers, and both times have been an absolute blast.
    Beautiful overlooks and very cool rock formations!! The cave was both awesome and scary...don't know if I would've been brave enough to go in myself but I sure enjoyed your footage!! :) And excellent choice of music, I loved it!!
    Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. :D

    Finally, made it back to watch this one! Great trip....but the cave thing...as cool as it was...I wouldn't do any more than you guys did! Not my cup of tea! But, my wife would have loved it. She did a full on caving expedition back in college...anyway take care my friend!

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      +WoodsTrekka' Adventures Thanks man! This was a great hike and the cave was just the icing on top of the cake! I knew there was a cave up there but I expected it to be just one of the little bear den type caves that are very typical around here. So we did not carry proper caving gear with us. I have since learned that the cave contains at least 400 feet of passageways. We were down in there a good 45 minutes and barely scratched the surface, I bet we saw way less than 100 feet. We came to a ledge that I know I could have climbed down, but I was unsure about getting back up without a rope. I am already planning a return trip in the future with more gear so can get further down in there. I used to go out with the caving club when I was a student at Virginia Tech back in early 1990s. Those guys were hardcore though, I remember once crawling on hands and knees through a creek, barely head above water, just to get to a cave entrance. That was a bit much for me man! Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

      Nolan LaValley I'm really glad you enjoyed this video. It was a great hike and an awesome cave. I have a few other caves on my channel, but they are not as good as this one was. I do know some other nice caves and I plan to return to those to make a RUclips video, as soon as I have time.

    I've been there probably 30 times. I live close. I usually Hike all the way across and come out on tri county road. Look at the main pic for my you tube channel. It was taken up there at the main rock formations facing blue grass trail in Rockbridge.

  • @CampfireSteveOutdoors
    @CampfireSteveOutdoors 9 лет назад

    How many times did you guys bump your heads in that cave? Perhaps its just me that needs a hard hat to keep from knocking myself out when caving? :D

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  9 лет назад

      Campfire Steve I definitely move very slowly and deliberately in a place like that. I did not bump my head at all, but I did whack my knee twice in the same spot and that was no fun at all...took a while for that pain to wear off. I knew there was a cave up there but had no information about it. I am planning to return someday and explore it further but now that I know what to expect I plan to take the proper gear, like my knee pads for one thing LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate your support!

    How long did it take from trail beginning to top of the mountain?

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 лет назад

      We started from the north trailhead, so essentially we were already at the top. It was a pleasant ridgeline hike for around 4 miles (one way) to the rocky spot with the caves. I have not hiked up from the south trailhead. Thanks for checking out my video, I appreciate it!

      Smell N Roses by chance do you remember if you had cell service at the top?

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 лет назад

      Unless something has changed since I was last up there, I would not expect to have any cell service at all. I have AT and T and there was no service in that area once I left Lexington. My buddy's phone had no service either, but I don't recall which provider he had at the time. Cell service is a rare treat if you're up on the mountains.
