Etsy charges the customer for shipping, is the shipping label basically what the customer is paying for or does that come out of the seller's pocket? Once Pirateship is integrated with Etsy, how does Etsy know how much to quote/charge a customer for shipping? Will it still do auto calculations because it will know about Pirate's charges?
How do you set up Pirateship in Etsy for just international shipping?

You still have to set up the shipping cost manually, but you can receive the discount on certain packages when purchasing through pirateship. Unfortunately there’s no way for Etsy or pirate ship to know exactly what box/mailer you will shipping your items in. It can be a little confusing in the beginning but here’s some videos I did about shipping so that you can figure out how much it will cost you to ship your items:

I enjoyed this video very much! the ones I've seen people ship with bubble mailers or envelopes. my item requires a box and I haven't found a cost efficient way of doing that yet.
I have a question. When you add pirate shipping to Etsy will the customer have to pay for the ups shipping because when you list your items it says ups will be the shipper. So overall do I pay for the pirate shipping and they pay for the ups shipping I’m so confused 🤣

i do have one question: if i integrate from etsy, i’m still paying for the label and the buyer is paying for the shipping. since i do not get paid for that cost. i’m basically making the buyer pay more, and i’m spending more money to ship their package
The label is the cost of shipping. So if the shipping cost is $5 the buyer pays that then you go and get the label for $5

been watching your videos all day after deciding that i wanna start a candle shop! any tips for shipping outside of the country??
Make sure you’re charging enough 😆 you can still ship in the boxes/bags you usually have them in, it’s just going to be an international label instead of a domestic one.
I set my international shipping price to $18(plus the $7 I already include for shipping in my listing). I do this because I can always refund the overage of shipping but I could never ask them for more money ❤️

Question: when the person orders the product on Etsy, and then you print out the label on Pirate Ship, how does the order get filled out for Etsy for the 1099 documents? Is it automatic after the shipping label is purchased? For instance, someone pays through card, (auto logged on Etsy), you pay for the shipping label, and then the payment is fulfilled that way? Let me know, thanks!

Maybe things have changed since this video was made, but the prices are exactly the same as Etsy's. So, I'll stick with Etsy"s shipping since it's easier.

How did you know how many candles to make for your first batch of candles when you first started your business? And did you buy a lot at a time or not all at once? I’m hoping to start my own and I’m not sure if I should make a lot right away 😭
Honestly, and I feel like this is different than most people, but I didn’t start with a lot of candles when I opened up. My main focus is trying to judge what scents do well. So I have been focusing on listing scents with only 3 in stock of each. This is just my strategy, it helps me determine what scents sell well without having 15+ in stock of scents that don’t sell quickly (especially when you have a budget on the amount of supplies you can buy)

I have a question, If I create a listing in etsy, there is a section called shipping. Do I select, "calculated prices" or do I manually place in "fixed prices"
I honestly don't know how pirate ship process it, does etsy send all of their information to pirate ship and it calculates the shipping immediately, or do my customers need to wait for me to calculate it for them and charge them more for shipping?

On my Etsy, they selected usps priority mail, but pirateship says ups is cheaper. Is it okay to ship vis ups (insurance included) instead?
Etsy charges a $.65 shipping fee. By using pirate ship will I still be charged by Etsy that fee?

On Etsy costumers pay for shipping and then you pay for shipping and the labels? Even though your printing from home you have to pay for labels? If you do USPS are labels free??

Super helpful video. I sell knits on etsy, Cozy Purl Knits, and I just did my book keeping stuff for last year to file taxes and file my sales tax stuff here in CA. It was a great year...but omg, I spent so much on shipping labels. I do factor it into my prices but ouch!! I was wondering if Pirate Ship will put the tracking numbers into etsy for you? Or do you have to go in and do that yourself?

It’s still shipping through USPS, it’s just a website that gives you cheaper options to purchase that USPS label :) so you would still get the insurance!

If you have a big enough outgoing mailbox that can fit your package, then yes you can!

Thank you so much for taking your time to post this! I have a question regarding the USPS priority mail boxes(not flat rate). When making a label for those do you use the rigid box on pirateship?
Yes! So as long as it’s not a flat rate box and it’s just a regular priority box, you can use that for priority shipping (and use the rigid box packaging). When you enter your weight and dimensions it will give you the cheapest rate. I’ve had it choose regular priority mail over priority cubic for me before, and I am able to use either a regular plain brown box, or regular priority box to ship it in! Think of a regular priority box as a brown box, but you can only use a priority label with it (not a first class label)

Hello, I've enjoyed watching your video. For Etsy, can I let Etsy calculate the shipping for me and then use Pirateship to help cover any additional cost of the label. Or would you recommend that I calculate the cost of the package on Pirateship and then manually enter the cost on Etsy to give an actual cost of total for my listing?

Hey I have a quick question . Can we complete order in Etsy without using Etsy shipping label ? I could do before but not they ask a tracking no to complete order .

Once it’s linked to your Etsy account are you automatically responsible for the shipping cost or does Etsy calculate that for the customer using pirateship’s rates at checkout out? Or do you have to manually enter on Etsy how much shipping will be ?
So it links to your Etsy but it doesn’t show the pirate ship pricing on your Etsy shop for the customer to see. So that’s where it can get a little tricky when it comes to pricing. You’ll have to set your prices on Etsy separately because it won’t show the prices from pirate ship (that would be an incredible feature)
Return address...What are some options with return address? I'm not crazy about putting my home address on that label. You can never be too careful.
You can get a P.O. Box/business mailbox and put that as the return address on the shipping label :)
I have a question... great video by the way ! When shipping using usps for my Etsy store I have always been able to hit the button to "complete the sale" and write the buyer a nice note and include the tracking number. If I don't include the tracking number, Etsy will ding me for not doing it, and my star seller status is taken away. Today I used PirateShip for the first time and bought a label and printed it and then went back to my Etsy orders and noticed that that ability to complete order was gone. So I just want to make sure that the tracking number has been sent to the buyer. I also liked the ability to write a note, and couldn't do that from Etsy either. Is there a way to get around this change when using PS ? Thanks so much !

If you integrated your Etsy shop with pirateship , it will automatically update the shipping tracking number on Etsy which will notify the customer

When you integrate Etsy and pirate ship together, pirate ship sends all the information to Etsy when you purchase and print out a label (they automatically upload the tracking and mark it as shipped) you don’t have to worry about doing anything :)
Funny... large flat rate box is $19.30 via Etsy AND Pirate Ship. Where is the discount?
Flat rate and first class prices are the same, but as I show in this video you are able to take advantage of priority mail cubic on pirate ship ☺️ I also found out that pirate ship has something called simple export rate which gives you really good discounts on international shipping

If you’re talking about Etsy, you can’t actually set up shipping on a listing to connect directly with pirate ship prior to the item being purchased (I wish they had this)
Basically you would set up your shipping preferences/prices to whatever you want to set them at. And then when an item sells, you use pirate ship to print out the label :)
I get so confused with shipping, so on Etsy it tells the customer what the shipping will be and they pay. Now what do I do once I use pirate ship? Do I refund the customer the difference? This is why I haven’t tried pirate ship yet lol
