I've always used cold packs because I didn't know if the silver cool wrap really worked. Nice to know it does. It is worth considering. I live in the south so I never get away from the heat! After more research (I'm a newb candle maker who's doing a LOT of that, lol), I've seen that other folks use cold packs and thermal bags that enclose the entire product (rather than just a wrapped layer). This makes me wonder if you have good luck, Erica, with just wrapping the candle rather than entirely enclosing it because your Soy 10 wax has a higher melt point than a lot of other waxes.... (Just thinking out loud here, not judging!) I'm in the absolute start-up phase and, don't want to build my entire line around a wax, then lose big bucks by having to add more packing materials for summer shipping or shipping anywhere it's hot. I'm actually wondering if I should choose a higher melt point wax from the get-go, despite initially choosing soy-coconut for a lot of non-shipping-related reasons. If it's the Accu-Soy #10 that you're using, that has a melt point of 120-130 degreees F, which is on the high end compared to other container waxes that might not hold up well shipping in warm weather. For comparison, GB 464 is 113-119.
I wish more people were talking about this, especially as it relates to those just starting out and choosing the base materials on which to build everything else. Regardless, thanks again for sharing your hard earned knowledge. =)

Q? On your candle labels do you have to state the scents that you use in your candles and melts? I don’t see it on everyone’s candle labels and I wasn’t sure if it is a necessity or not.

Erica, I think you should save your money on that metallic bubble wrap. What is working for you is your good idea to ship no later than Wednesday. That wrap won’t keep the heat out. It is good for reflective heat. And it may be a good insulator, but your candle isn’t generating any cold temps like ice does. So all that will happen is the box will get warm and so will the candle and the bubble wrap. Plus the top and bottom are open and any heat will enter the candle this way. So it isn’t effective unless you wrapped the candle in an ice pack and used that metal bubble wrap to completely seal it all in as an insulator. But eventually, even this will fail and the temp will rise to the ambient.

Do you take your brown 4x4x6 boxes and then place them in a flat rate shipping bag or box to actually ship?

But i would really like to know more about the printers for instance the one you recommended is expensive for me is there a cheaper alternative? Also i don't know anything about thermal printers are those necessary for shipments? It would be really help us if you could share with us how you use the printers and what type of papers/sticker papers you use! I have another printer linked that is an inkjet printer recommended by the social media manager of Online Labels. Also, I used a cheap canon pixma printer for a long time!
And no you don’t need a thermal printer for shipping labels at all! You can print it out on regular paper, cut it out and tape it to the box :)

A little thing I have learned is using black mailers is not the way to go. It gets even more hot than it actually is already and has a higher chance of melting the wax. I prefer using light colored or white mailers. I actually use poly mailers that have flamingos and lemons on them because they are bright colored!!

Something I would add: a visible sticker to the shipping box that states ' avoid heat/ extreme temps'. Or whatever works in the given situation.
My day job is with one of the main courier companies, so I personally see that kind of thing move through the mail stream often. 😊 It helps us provide a better service as well!

What size is the box
silly question but how do you keep track of what candle is in what box before labeling the box with the shipping label? that way you can label the correct box for each customer? the best way i have found is to just prepare one order at a time but its a very annoying process lol. it seems like you process multiple orders at once and i would love to be able to do that.
Ahhhh this is so hard. I honestly thought there might be some secret hack to be able to do multiple orders at once.. but I am so meticulous that I have to do one order at a time to ensure that I won’t give myself anxiety thinking I did an order wrong haha.
However it takes me about 20-30 minutes to prepare for these kind of videos because I prep them one at a time and add sticky notes so I know whose package it is 💜

Hi Erica! I have a question; what type of wax do you use for your candles? I am using C-3 wax and this is the third wax I’ve tried and am currently using for my candles. I dislike how bumpy the wax gets after lighting up a candle and would want to know if all soy waxes do the same or would you recommend switching or just adding another additive to fix this issue? Thank you for your videos! They are so informative and so fun !♥️
You could try blending it with another wax! I use soy 10 and it stays smooth throughout burn sessions (but I’m also working on doing some custom blends of waxes!)

I use different boxes! 8x6x4 for two candles 8x8x8 for 3-4 candles and medium flat rate boxes for 5-6 candles !

I actually haven’t had many international orders, and no complaints so far! I package them the same but just make sure they are extraaa protected!
