      I've been making my own "jumbo" grips for years. I'm 6'4" with big hands. I also had a high school basketball injury to my left thumb which caused problems with being able to utilize the normal left hand grip with the thumb down the shaft. I can only release the clubhead if I grip (left hand) like a baseball bat and then put the right hand over it as per usual. I took the inner tube from a semi and cut 1" wide strips and then wrapped them right over top over the old grip. I even added a narrow strip on the underside for alignment. They look like the old leather wraps (very cool) and are tacky no matter the conditions. There's no doubt they are big. However, most people don't notice until they hold one. Then their eyes pop open!

    Some folks need the feel of a softer profile to time things. Whenever I go stiffer I actually start pulling it real bad... Contrary to popular belief of stiffer going straighter or fading. All depends on the player...... Awesome review and great bit of knowledge about the softer grip masking the harshness of very stiff shafts. I’ve always thought that. CP2’s do a great job of that. CP2’s feel like they torque around a bit though...

    I recently got fitted for some Mizuno Hot Metal Pros. The shaft optimizer recommended a senior shaft, I’m 49 with a 75 swing speed on an iron. I really didn’t like the whippiness of the shaft. Tried different shafts and felt very comfortable with the Project X 120 gram 6.0 stiff shaft with a midsize Golf Pride +4 ALIGN grip. I played a few rounds with my irons and absolutely killing that ball. 7 iron flies 170 yards and pretty straight. Previously my 7 iron only got 150 yards out of it Get fitted. And play with what “feels” good for you.

    I thoroughly enjoy you guys and your content. I wanted to ask two questions and wasn't sure where to put the questions:
    1. Aerotech Steelfiber iron shafts - Used by Kuchar and Snedeker among others. I'd love to see you guys test/review these. Maybe the best of all worlds between steel and graphite shafts for irons. I found significant performance increase in numbers when I went for a fitting recently, but would love to see what you guys do with them.
    2. SST PUREing - Does this provide benefits that are worth the cost?
    Thanks for your work guys!

    In 1969 Jack Nicklaus wrote a book "my life in golf " At the end of the instruction section he states regarding the distance advantage he has " one day in the future , a 250 lb 6'5" golf athlete will come along , drive the ball 350 yards , when this day comes the courses we play will become obsolete overnight with regard to the challenge presented to the professional " and 41 years later , Jack's prediction has been realised.

    I'm curious on if the swing weight was kept the same with both grips or if by adding the heavier jumbo grip and 4 wraps of tape if it didn't change the whole balance point of the club, making it essentially backweighted quite a bit. I find that I tend to be more consistent when weight is added to the handle part of the clubs with a jumbo grip. I'd love to see a video comparison on this and mainly the science behind backweighting clubs and how that affects delivery for some.

  • @wally6193
    @wally6193 4 года назад

    Ian, I didn't know they only created one shaft one length, I went to their website but there is nothing on either of their rebar shafts(iron or drv). I'm surprised it's only 122grm, is that before cutting/trimming? Do you have any other specs on it like the torques -butt/mid/tip. The stiffness sure didn't seem to effect the ball height, interesting.

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 4 года назад

    Reminds me of my tennis comp days. Very stiff rackets are too powerful at the elite men's level because it's too difficult to keep the ball from flying long - but there is no question the 'smash factor' equivalent is true; and in golf, I can't see any downside about being long & accurate in full swing clubs. I'd personally play such shafts in an AMT type setup and I play a Mid +4 grip which I love and would never go back to standard

    @bmos212 4 года назад

    I've set it for years, distance is unlocked in the gym, look at the long drive guys, they look like Linebackers. If you can transfer that strength thru functional training, its a recipe for mashing the ball. I went from 108 club speed to 139mph and 198 -207 ball speed. Just by getting stronger

    The shaft acts like a spring. Springs cannot create energy. It would violate the first law of thermodynamics. Deflection if anything will cause you to lose energy
