Just agreeing with the other comments: You guys are a unique source of knowledge and understanding. I feel like flying over from Europe to get fitted buy you.
100k is well deserved and coming. Far cry from the 5k and 10k giveaways I remember. 😁 You are easily the best resource for equipment and fitting out there.
This channel should easily have 150k-200k followers. The knowledge on this channel is so helpful and extremely easy to digest. And if folks don't care about that, just watch Matt swinging over and over again is therapeutic.
Would love to see a "Does Sharpening Your Grooves Add Spin?" ...or even do anything at all? haha. Take an old club and see what Matty's numbers are and then sharpen the grooves to see what, if anything, that it does. Great content, guys!
Just got one from AMAZON and have done some late night sharpening! Actually, I think it does more removal of CRAP as opposed to sharpening, but maybe it results in the same thing?
They don’t really increase spin enough to be worth doing but they’ll definitely damage your club face by removing the chrome if you slip at all and are also super dangerous cause you need a lot of force to shear the metal and if you slip it may end up stabbing your hand or leg. If you really want to increase spin the best way is to sand blast the face with aluminum oxide sand which Roughens up the face between the grooves. Or just replace your wedge.
Grooves don't create spin, they allow a place for dust, dirt, grass, and water to go so the metal and ball can have friction. Think of a race tire vs a street tire. In ideal conditions no grooves will create the most spin, but that won't work on the course.
Maybe 18 or so years ago a young man brought me his set of Ping irons and a set of S400 shafts to be put in them. I told him the weight difference in what was in the Ping shafts and S400 would change the feel for sure, it's what he wanted so I did it. He was out of town for a week, so I took them out to the local range at hit/tested them out, the 7 thru wedge were the best feeling short clubs I had hit in years, 5 days later I had pulled the S300 out of my 7 thru wedge/gap wedge and put in S400s and never regretted the change. I'm older now and playing 60 gram graphite shafts, but back then those S400 shafts felt fantastic.
Love that you guys are so intellectually curious, you love learning and not afraid of learning in real time with us. TXG makes us better golfers technically but I love the game more because of this content!
Can’t believe your pushing for 100K it should be 1 million in my opinion. The content is brilliant enough never mind the professional and friendly way you guys present it to us. Keep it up guys.
I went graphite in my wedges this year and my short game has never been better, I thought it was just in my head. I can actually spin half shots now. Congrats on 80K and hopefully you get the 100K plack soon!
This is really a timely video for me, as I just switched from Dynamic Gold S200 steel shafts in my three lofted wedges (49*, 54* and 60*) to graphite wedge shafts and put them in play today. I now use SteelFiber i110cw shafts in my gap and lob wedges and a 125 gram shaft in my 54* SW (I know that I may be mental, but I like the feel of a heavier and stiffer shaft in my sand wedge). I took the three wedges to the range and hit a variety of shots there this morning, including lots of pitches and chips on the chipping green and many sand shots with both the 54* and 60* wedges, and put them in play in my evening league tonight. I had my best wedge performance in recent memory this evening (OK, with the exception of one green where I blasted a 60* wedge shot over the green from a greenside bunker). I never thought that I would like composite wedge shafts, even though I play KBS Tour Graphite shafts in my irons, but these shafts feel and perform great for me! By the way, Matty Boy, you hit all three of your wedges about 20 yards further than I hit my comparable wedges with a full swing.
Guys, I remember both Yonex, the old PM wedges and Gary Players manganese bronze wedges had graphite shafts as standard and they used to get heaps of spin compared to steel, albeit back in the days of balata! Really interesting stuff.
Great stuff as always fellas. I tell everyone I know that’s into golf about you guys so hopefully we can all get you to 100k soon as it’s well deserved.
That was fun to watch, sooo close to an Ace! A lot of divots to fix Can’t wait to try the ACCRA TZW. 2:13 you are correct, within a flex the Dynamic Gold sub-flexing S2/3/4 is only a weight change; however, the entire shaft profile does change vs flex, providing a much different feel. - R3 flex - 7” x .580” butt @ 127g making it play softer - S2 Flex - 8” x .600” butt @ 128g Stiff - X1 Flex - 10” x .600” butt @ 130g X Stiff - X7 Flex - 10” x .610” butt @ 132g XX Stiff A lighter alternative Dynamic Gold 115 wedge: - S Flex - 9” x .600” butt @ 115g Stiff Keep up the great content!!
Looking to go back to graphite iron shafts in the fall, hopefully can get fit into something from Accra that will work for me, Wedge fitting as well at TXG .... super relevant to my situation , thumbs up !!!!
I remember reading about Bryson Dechambeau working with some graphite wedge shafts. It was called a Texas Rebar. He was wanting a super stiff shaft in order to preven the ground from deflecting the face.
In the same principle but in lighter weights, I reshafted my Cleveland wedges with KBS TGI Graphite Iron shafts to be a progression from my KBS TGI Graphite shafted PXG 3rd gen irons - For wedges they have 90/95/100/110g available in the .355 diameter... fantastic!!!
Another great vid from the best golf channel on RUclips, cheers boys 👍 Please test those shafts out on some shorter wedge shots to see if they stand up to the delicate stuff.
I been using accra spt 125's in my Scratch wedges for the last year, and I really enjoy the feel and spin (fitted foresight). Pretty much we got similar results to you guy in my fitting. Great info and thanks for all your testing.
It's like the spirit of Karsten Solheim was resurrected in the TXG tour experience to fit & build the best clubs for you... ...for that reason, it would be something to see TXG fit & build a set for a up and coming PING player
Graphite shafts are definitely going to be making their way into more bags...I would love to see the MMT wedge shaft vs the Accra TZW...as someone who is swings a 7iron at 95mph - I'm seriously considering graphite for my next shafts - MMT's through to wedge - then stability shaft in putter???? Might as well go full graphite bag...love the work boys, keep em coming
Really interesting video I do hope Accra come out with a variety of weights and flexs in this new line so that those of us with more average swing speeds who typically play with lighter steel shafts in the wedges (from memory mine are 90g shafts) get a look in
Fantastic video! Definitely confirming the move I am about to make with going into a wedge specific shaft. Didn't see much difference in the PW or GW but partial shots and full shots in the SW and LW definitely saw a bigger difference in spin generated with relatively the same swing throughout testing! Thanks guys! Maybe do some testing and comparing between different wedge specific shafts?
This is a very interesting result, I would have thought that S400 would have the heavier of the two! It's hard to argue with the results, sounds like more people should be giving graphite wedge shafts a try!
I have playd golf for 20y i am now playing A-flex graphit in both iron and wedges, just love the shortgame. Playing of 14 and i really dont care about spin, just to do the best resultate !!!!
Can you get Matt to test a super lightweight iron shaft? I have been playing the Aerotech Steelfiber 80 gram Xstiff for the last 6 years and love them. Driver swing speed ranges from 110-113 most of the time. Curious what the difference would be moving him from a steel bar to a feather.
Even if the slightly more shaft lead deflection which presents the tiniest bit more loft but is offset by the tiniest bit of face rotation isn't real on grass as the club goes through turf, the fact is the shaft is a nice heavy graphite shaft with vibration absorbing qualities that many golfers would like to have for comfort on their elbows and wrists. What happened to the new controlled Matt that isn't going to hit 100 yard 60 degree wedge shots that zip back off the green? Tyler will be calling from Florida shortly I suspect. I didn't expect the S400 to be more dynamic toe down - that alone makes this an interesting shaft.
Great vid, best out there..in the 60 degree seems like the gap between carry and overall distance is more accurate for the S400 - 101-99 yards and Accra - 99-95 .... is this because of the gearing effect of the Accra. I was wondering isn’t this more significant than the gear effect + lower strike and the 700 rpm extra spinn ? Grtz from the Netherlands 🇾🇪
By the way, I am from the Philippines and my youngest will be entering UBC in Vancouver next year. Am definitely going to you guys for fitting when I drop him off. 😁
Hey guys, would you ever consider fitting a recreational golfer live or a mini-series? Or show how a rec. player clubs probably aren't the right ones in the bag? Thanks fellas
Hi, Alfonso here. I know wedges generally have heavier shafts but wanted to try Zelos 7 shafts on my wedges to match the rest of my irons. Why is it better to have heavier shafts on wedges and what would I lose by putting in much lighter shafts (70+ grams)? Thanks.
So I have S400 in my 52 and 56 because I feel super comfortable hitting full shots with them, but in my 60 I have the S200 shaft. If I’m only chipping and hitting partial shots, there shouldn’t be many problems right?
good video boys. but help me understand: isnt the spin disparity in the 60 strike related? matt was hitting it lower on the face, tilting loft down and pushing spin up. wouldn’t it make more sense to compare similar strikes? i guess i can get on board with saying a shaft is moving the strike location because of tip deflection and that is contributing to an increase in spin. it just doesn’t seem that we are comparing apples to apples with the strike pattern is not the same. what am i missing?
The effect of the shaft on strike location is kind of the point of it in this case, more lead deflection brings the strike lower, and increases dynamic loft leading to higher spin. Basically without changing your actual technique, can this shaft deliver more spin. If the strikes are identical with the same spin loft, result will be the same.
Steelfiber 125 felt counterbalanced, and the 110 felt more low balance point. I used the 125 wedge for exactly two rounds. I couldn't find the head on any feel shots.
I am currently looking at putting a specialist "spinnier" wedge shaft in my 58 degree Titleist Vokey SM8 and I am really interested in the Accra TZW, I have checked the Accra website regularly in recent months but this shaft doesn't appear to be available yet but Accra now have a 130 gram IWedge Tour shaft so is this essentially the same shaft as the prototype TZW?
08:16 100988 backspin...I can't believe the comments aren't flooded with it! DirtyDog is now the Master of Spin!!!

I am addicted to this channel

Matt was on fire with the wedges. Great video as usual gentlemen!!
I changed to the MCI 125 Solid shafts in my 60 & 54 and love them.
The sound difference was very noticeable upon the first strike with the Accra shaft. Sounded "softer" if that makes sense. More muted.
agreed, felt that way also
Review the dynamic gold amt line
I remember reading about Bryson Dechambeau working with some graphite wedge shafts. It was called a Texas Rebar. He was wanting a super stiff shaft in order to preven the ground from deflecting the face.

"I can deff play this for sure", got it. Yes you can! Nice to watch...
I ordered a SM8, 54deg with a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue stiff shaft. Should be here in a couple of days. Can't wait to get it and hit the course.

One of the guys I play with played with a ladies shaft in his Dynapower sandwedge. He won two major championships with that shaft.
Curious to see about spin difference on partials / shots around the green, I hope you guys do a video on that.
Interesting mic cut at 10:55 🤣 great vid
More great content. Love to see those spin differences
I'm curious to see how the graphite shaft reacts to less than full swings, like pitching and chipping the ball compared to steel!

Very interesting find! I hope the guys at Accra are ready to have their stock fly off the shelves upon release :)
You guys definitely need to let us know when this shaft launches to the public. I lack spin with wedges. I’d buy immediately!!!
Interesting. Maybe adding graphite to the next set of wedges.
Another Professor Ian master class. Who said, choice isn't a good thing. Hmmm, maybe another wedge fitting is needed.

Oh! Nice topic!
Can you mabye test the KBS Wedge Shafts vs the Accra and or S400 next?
Have you ever got a hole in one on the machine using a wedge?
What about with half shots and quarter shots? What type of differences might a shaft like this have vs a typical wedge shaft?
Would be interesting to see that shaft in a hi toe wedge. They already have great spin. Add that shaft and rip some.
do you get feedback from the new progress bar chapter marker division thingies?
If it's a prototype hopefully that means they'll work on the graphics too....oof
very, very interesting results though, something to consider

Steelfiber 125 felt counterbalanced, and the 110 felt more low balance point. I used the 125 wedge for exactly two rounds. I couldn't find the head on any feel shots.
