Canadian North Airlines - 737 300 - Yellowknife (YZF) to Edmonton (YEG) | TRIP REPORT

- Canadian North Airlines is an Inuit-owned airline flying up in Canada's Northwest Territories and Nunavut, connecting some of the country's most remote towns to the world. Its merger with First Air in 2019 established the combined fleet as one of Canada's largest airlines. Ticket prices are known to be outrageous, and in a way, the airline has a monopoly on Arctic transportation because most towns aren't accessible by road, rail, or even boat. If you want to visit or leave these Northern towns, you must fly.
I was supposed to fly on the 737-200 Combi (the aircraft is half cargo pallets, half passenger seats), but mechanical issues saw the flight downgrade to an ATR 42 and a 7-hour delay. I'll return to Yellowknife in a couple of months to give it another crack!
Yellowknife is the capital and largest city in the Northwest Territories with a population of 20,000 residents. Industry includes diamond mining, transportation, northern lights tourism, and communications. The airport is a hub for Canadian North along with Adlair Aviation, Air Tindi, Buffalo Airways, Northwestern Air, North-Wright Airways, and Summit Air. Destinations for Canadian North from Yellowknife are Cambridge Bay, Edmonton, Fort Simpson, Gjoa Haven, Hay River, Inuvik, Iqaluit, Kugaaruk, Kugluktuk, Norman Wells, Rankin Inlet, Taloyoak, and Ulukhaktok.
I enjoyed the actual onboard product during the flight! They served a complimentary meal and drinks (included in all fares) and the crew members are always extremely nice!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend 🦃
Can you fly kuwait airways frankfurt to kuwait
Thank you Quintin. Thanksgiving was nice. 🦃
All the best to you and your extended family.
@@GregCurtin45 Thank you Greg.😀💚
How old you started like airplane ?
That freighter spotted at 2:24 is pretty sweet. I had to rewind to look again. Glad you said something about it too.
You know many decades from now, air travel and certain cities will look really different, and hopefully all these videos will be up on Space RUclips so people can look back.
I watch this type of flight video from many different posters and I have to say yours really stand out, for two main reasons. One is that you so often fly little known airlines to or from obscure destinations; there's little anyone can do at this point to make a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to London or a United from LAX to Atlanta particularly interesting. Even if your videos weren't very good they'd be worth watching just to see cities or airports or airlines we can't see elsewhere. But your videos ARE good. Your photography is outstanding. The trip to the airport, the area around the airport, and the scenery out the window add a great deal to your videos, something that a lot of posters overlook. Seeing the meal and comparing restrooms pale after a while. (Happily you no longer feel obligated to show us both sides of the airsickness bag!) Your videos were never bad, but they've gotten even better and continue to improve--this was one of your best (Those Northern lights!). Congratulations and keep up the good work. Thank you.
I really appreciate this comment James! Thank you so much. It makes me happy to see that you enjoy these type of videos because they’re a blast to film! Have a good holidays!
Another great trip report Quintin! I would love to head up north and see the Borealis 😮
Always the best trip reports anywhere.
Nice video! When I flew this flight 2 months ago, I could only fly it in their ATR's. Yellowknife is an interesting place.
As a person who has almost crossed late middle age and is living far away from Canada, I welcome and appreciate all vlogs that show places where I will most probably never visit in my life...even though a part of me always wants to. I know I will never go to Yellowknife, board a plane without bus or a jet bridge in deep winter in brutally cold weather, feel the wind and cold bring tears to my eyes, truly savour a hot cup of coffee inside the aircraft as it flies over the snow laden ground...but here I can - through your wonderful vlogs as you travel to all the out of the way places. So, thank you thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making me see all of the unseen and unknown places. You make my imagination take wings.
Well said! I feel the same way. This channel is great because Quentin tends to go to interesting "out of the way" places.
Indeed well said!👍👍👍
This is the nicest comment I’ve ever read Ziauddin thank you! That makes me feel really grateful and humbled to have these experiences I’m fortunate enough to have. Hope I can keep delivering cool content for you!
Hey buddy, very very nice. Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!
Thanks! Will do! Lots more cool stuff coming your way!
@@QFSAviation 😀🤗wonderful, definitely looking forward.
Thank you very much for this very interesting Trip Report from a freezing cold Canada!🥶🤧
Nice video, thanks. Well done!
Hey Quentin,
Old and worn is 10x better than the Recaro type benches being installed on most aircraft today. AIRLINES: More seats, more money, more opportunities but less customer appeal.
I agree! Trust me I really dislike the new trend of crappy seats. I’d take this any day over Recaro
I'm pretty sure you know it, but if you wanna catch a B732, Nolinor, Air Inuit and Chrono (nice cabin btw) still operates them from Montreal (YMX/YHU/YUL sometimes).
Great trip report n awesome shots in Edmonton
Thanks a lot Oswaldo! Hope all is well!
Great video, as usual. You captured some spectacular shots of the northern lights. That meal service took me back to flying years ago. It's so rare these days to get a hot meal in Economy/Coach Class. Looking forward to your upcoming adventures.
The Northern Lights are one of those optical mysteries that I will never tire of watching. Could stay up all night watching them. I'm quite surprised you got a meal on a 90 minute flight... and a hot one at that! I was in Yellowknife as a kid (9/10yrs old?) with my dad for his work and flew in the back of a 4 seater -- almost froze to death. The people in Yellowknife were nice and it is amazing place to visit.
Sorry you had to go to Edmonton - ugh! Great video, awesome music. Thanks for all your work in sharing your adventures with us. Stay safe.
I’m obsessed with seeing the northern lights they’re my favorite!! Yellowknife is a cool city I’m happy you got to experience it! That’s a really cool story
Nice Trip Report. I've always been hopeful that Canadian North would serve YVR.
Happy Turkey Day to you, too! 🦃 Loved the L-188, Western Airlines flew these out of SAC Sacramento Municipal Airport (pre SMF) in the 60’s. I loved the whistling noise of the engines! Great to see that some are still flying. Great trip report! Thanks!
Wow I can only imagine how freaking cool that was! Sounds fascinating!
Awesome content! Thank you for all the work that you put into your videos!
Really like your videos, Quinton!
Great detail in the report. Fascinating flight.
You arrived in YEG on one of the first snowy days this winter!
Years ago, me and my dad flew with Southwest Airlines on one of their 737 200. I’m sure they don’t have them any more. We flew round-trip from LAX to DFW. Great airline!
Fantastic job capturing the northern lights! They look absolutely amazing! I have to admit tho I was laughing when you said this cabin looks like a Time Machine from your childhood in the mid 2000s lol that was like 10 years ago😂😂 I was born in 86 so ten years ago for me feels like yesterday 😅 on another note I think they actually kept this plane in better than mediocre shape it looks very clean and well kept for being built in 98 Also would like to add your seat on the wing was awesome for taking shots during flight!
Thank you! Haha yeah I guess I really show my adolescence with comments like that 😅. I do agree that these cabins are better then what the slimline trend is today
@@QFSAviation lol Hey man I wasn’t saying it as something to feel stupid about adolescence is a gift! It just sounded funny lol Believe me life starts to pass by faster and faster once you hit a certain age and you will wish you were young again lol So be proud of your youth and don’t take it for granted brotha! Best advice I promise!
Oh man 6:42 reminds me that the last times I flew was basically mid to late 2000s. I need to go get on a plane now.
Go do it!!! It’s been so long 😢
Crazy how you lucked out with two empty seats
Que Vídeo Maravilhoso Que Céu Lindo Que Aeronave Clássica Top.
Adorei o Conteúdo Parabéns ✈🇧🇷👍
Can't say how much I enjoy your trip reports. Absolutely great work every time through. Keep it up!
Oh and that walk around the airport premises at the end, that was really pretty cool 😄
Thank you very much! That’s really nice to hear man! Also really appreciate you enjoying that 360 camera montage at the end it was sick to film!
In 2005, Southwest Airlines retired their 737-200s and in 2016 their 737-500s and 2017 737-300s
Great video, YZF hasn't changed a bit since I lived up there in 2011. If anything, they need to expand the post-security area to provide more space between seating. Love the twilight views of Yellowknife you captured, it's such a unique city that everyone should visit if they can.
Nice video! Happy Thanksgiving
good to see your face 🙂 nice trip!!
Thanks QFS !
Nice trip
Loved the split-second glimpse of the ex-Air Greenland Dash 7, which I presume was going to Air Tindi?
Yup Canadian North Airlines is doing really well I hope too see them Modernize there Fleet right too the Boeing 737 Max Family of Jets In the upcoming years soon also add New Turboprops from ATR 42 & 72-600 Series as well but we'll wait to see what happens next Awesome Video QFS Aviation nuff respect to all your Videos on Aviation & Travel keep going Dream Big on Aviation man 100%
Beautiful cinematography. Thanks for posting. Safe travels.
Nice 👍
Wow
Outstanding trip report Quintin. What is the nain industry in Yellow knife?
It was a huge mining town until the turn of the millennium when government services, communications, and tourism replaced the traditional economy
Meal looks good nice slice of cake
Love that rear boarding and inflight meal, of course. Happy Thanksgiving!
- Red
Happy Thanksgiving! Gotta love these flights man they’re the best
thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this video but that opening with the Northern Lights was spectacular. great camera work throughout the video. I think that's my first ticking toilet too. really cool montage at the end also. I clicked the like button and everyone else should too!!. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!!!
Interesting aircraft 737-300 no combo
I have always been curious to find out why all these northern airlines seem to use almost exclusively very old aircraft models. They do not seem to have lots of passengers on these flights, so I guess an A220 would be just fine size wise.
The last time I got a full meal on a 90 minute flight was from Dallas Fort Worth to Detroit on board in Northwest Aurlines DC9 back in 1986. What happened to that kind of service?
Loved the Northern Lights show. Seats looked old. While the food tasted good the presentation was sloppy.
Thanks Quintin😀💚
♥️
Happy Thanksgiving. I love how beautiful the northern part of Canada looks. I enjoyed watching your latest video.
Thank you! You too! It’s a magical place up there for sure
wow, so many of you
Happy Thanksgiving week
Did you get a chance to fly the 737-200 (C-GDPA)? It's final flight with Canadian North will be soon, I am heading out on Saturday as it will be my last chance on the 200.
Chrono in Montreal flies 200s
Hey man do you prefer Canadian North after the merger with First Air or Before the Merger with First Air
Definitely before the merger. Competition is always good for airlines, especially when they're considered a lifeline to these communities. With nobody to compete against now, what's stopping the airline from jacking these prices even higher
@@QFSAviation same here I definitely prefer Canadian North before the merger with First Air the polar bear logo was a little bit better than this one.
Hey quintin
Loved this Canadian north video. Nicely done.
ow are you?.Enjoyed. unusual content- see you later. QFS~
Another fantastic one bud! LOVED the northern lights!
Glad you enjoyed! I love catching the lights up north
@@QFSAviation They're amazing!
Have you tried Air North…?
Yes I flew them back in March from Vancouver - Whitehorse - Edmonton! Hopefully I’ll upload that soon
Nice trip report. I can't promise anyone that I would travel up there. I'm not a huge fan of winter weather.
😀👍
Kinda interesting how Canadian North gives you meals but U.S. carriers do not do that
In a Lufthansa Aircraft you would get a bottle of silent water and that would it be.😃 - But within this price a little bit more is included.
@@NicolaW72 that and a chocolate bar and thats basically it
Have you been watching the FIFA world Cup at all?
Yes but sadly 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇸 are eliminated! Gotta root for 🇳🇱 now!
@@QFSAviation I have Portugal winning the whole thing in my FIFA World Cup Bracket!!!
im going to cancel you because i was in that plane lol. ( this is a joke but i was there and you deserve alot more subs for this type of content )
Was there a timer in the toilet? 😂😂😂😂
Why is there a black there :(
Описание на русском? 🤔
Im glad the mask mandate got lifted in Canada for public transportation
Can you tell everyone that canadian north is a rip off to nunavut territory? It cost over $2,000 for me (my home) gjoa haven to yellowknife and them back to gjoa haven. It cost me over $1,000 one way trip to go to yellowknife from gjoa haven. It cost me over $600 to go to next town that's only 87 miles away. I wish they can reduce the price or everyone protest to reduce price make this known for everyone!
Tim Hortons, the most over rated products ever. Swill coffee and reheated old donuts
They used to be better until Burger King (RBI) purchased them and cut all costs. Pretty funny how they’re not Canadian owned even though they act like they are
@@QFSAviation Exactly, they keep trying new things, now it’s pizza 🍕. Maybe get your coffee and fresh pastries fixed. I’m in Canada, and I go to McDs for coffee now
As an American, I’m still in awe that you’re served a hot meat for free in economy class 🥲
