  • Meg Jay, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist, and an Associate Professor of Human Development at the University of Virginia, who specializes in adult development and in 20-somethings in particular. She earned a doctorate in clinical psychology, and in gender studies, from the University of California, Berkeley. Her books have been translated into more than a dozen languages and her work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review and on NPR and BBC. Her TED talk “Why 30 Is Not the New 20” is among the most watched of all time.

    “Don’t write a book unless you can’t not right a book.” I love it! And that’s why I wrote a book at 20 years old about everything to learn before investing

    Our 20s is so uncertain, it could be really stressful but it could also be an excuse to try different things!

    I hate that the pandemic has put a hold on real life for so many people. I was feeling sorry for people who hadn't established their careers yet, while I could happily get a job and work form home.
    But now I realise it's really the meeting a partner and having kids that's been slowed down for so many people, and that really gets to the pointy end in the 30s. I know people whose ivf was delayed due to the pandemic. Fertility is something you can't stand to waste even a month on, once you realise you have a problem.
    And for those who had break ups not long before the pandemic, try to date again?! There's not much excuse now, but people are certainly out of the habit!
