Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA celebrated their 10th anniversary with a one-night-only event, dubbed Retrospect. The band was accompanied by the seventy piece Extended Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre, playing an unforgettable 3-hours best-of set.
According to respected Dutch newspaper the Volkskrant "The band wrote a chapter of Dutch metal History" this evening. Rock Tribune (Belgium) thought it was "an unforgettable show".
Ten high definition cameras captured this very special sold-out show while Epica played in front of nearly five thousand ecstatic fans in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In addition to a collection of the band's biggest hits from across the spectrum of their entire catalog, this once-in-a-lifetime spectacular also features the live debut of "Twin Flames" and the previously unreleased "Retrospect", covers of classics by Vivaldi, Pergolesi, and Oscar-winning film composer John Williams, two guest collaborations with the venerable Floor Jansen (Nightwish, ReVamp), and a very special performance of their breakthrough single, "Quietus", with founding members Jeroen Simons, Ad Sluijter, and Yves Huts.

The best bands are always better live then in studio. Just look at Judas Priest, exactly the samething. Bad bands however are better in studio and the worst live.
Epica with an orchestra and a choir is a wonderful thing to see. So, so good.

@@comegetjoe I used to think that the ''pregnancy glow'' was a myth but it does exist. I have never looked as good as when I was pregnant with my son. Hair and skin was in excellent condition. This profile pic is my pregnant one and its the only one I show people because its literally my only flattering photo. All the others are too embarrassing

@@Ihadurka when you pregnant you loss a lot of capabilities including singing because the baby press the lungs up and the muscles making the capacity to sing more hard I was pregnant with my daughter I was in church chores and it was more complicate to hold the breath to make long chores

El sonido es perfecto. Pero las cámaras dejan mucho que desear, lo mismo la iluminación.
Después de ver este vídeo uno queda casi ciego.
A la banda apenas se la ve de tantos haces de luz cegadora. Y casi nunca enfocan directamente a Simone como al resto. Aparecen a un costado y encima cortados. Creo que ni los camarógrafos podían ver con claridad debido a tanta luz excesiva.
Aprendieron de eso porque con su livestream de Omega Alive quedó excelente

She did her best, and it was a great and intense show. That's all that matters to me. I don't expect anyone to sing perfectly for almost 3 hours in one go anyway.
This is the kind of concert I've been waiting for Nightwish to do for years. They should have done that instead of coming out with a movie.

I saw Epica live a month ago and I can fucking confirm this. Her voice is out of this planet.
This makes my cry. It's too epic and wells me up every fucking time! The true power of music always had a physical effect...3 levels, neck hair stands - neck and arm hair stands and shivers go down to my legs and itches them like crazy, then the final is gurning like q baby...this tune leaves me an itchy legged bubbling mess 😂

This show was recorded on April 2013, if I rembember correctly, she gave birth around October 2013..so she would have been around 3 months pregnant. The baby bump is not actually really visible, but with some dresses she was wearing it's clearer *_*
I've seen them in 2015, their TQE gig was a complete MIRACLE!

I think Simone has improved over time. This is a really good performance. IMO.
They all have. They always had the creative genius inside. But performing that epic music flawlessly, that's something they've mastered over time.
Her earphones have been always messed up in almost all previous concerts.. they figured it out eventually i guess
True, but I found some videos of that show and the difference is that we can see something (this video and the phantom agony, as much as proffessionally they are, you can't see anything - or barely). So, somehow I'm glad some people in the audience filmed it :)

everybody complains about Simone's vocals, I think she sounded pretty good, her lyrical voice had not been this strong in years, and that chorus in the end is probably her best interpretation. She sang really really well the whole concert

Once I fell asleep while listening to Epica with my earphones on and I remember suddenly waking up at 5:30. I swear it was a transcendental experience, I felt like my whole body was vulnerable to absorb the greatness of this song.

Much better. All of the other times I've seen them live she has struggled. Her voice used sound strained and screechy for what ever reason but here she sounds amazing.

I love bands like Epica so much because they themselves aren't just good; they embody what I love so much about Eurometal in general, it has this dignified culture to it that you just don't see (or hear) at shows in America headlined by A7X, Slipknot, and whoever else is still around from 2004. Beautiful.

Man I hate the way she sings this. Not even talking about her "technique" or anything, but how she's singing the rhythm of the whole song, coming in like a beat late on purpose. It sounds cool once in a while, but not every note. I wish she'd hold the notes a bit longer too, especially in the chorus. Other than that, this looks and sounds amazing.

My point is could be her teacher taught her to use this kind of technique or herself liked it and there we have her teacher doing her best to mentor her. As you've noticed most of RFTI songs are out of her comfort zone but a good step up from DYU. I like her chest voice, as well as her head notes.
I need help. I love this band. I have started a solo campaign for Epica fans to actually buy their music. No piracy. Those who cheat are hurting the band, forcing it to tour too much, to play for larger audiences as much as possible, to go through endless airplane travel and airport waiting. All of which is tiresome for band members. The more CD's are sold, the more time amazing musicians like Epica can spend creatively. Spread the voice, let's change a bad habit.

More money doesn't mean better results. By this I mean even if we all quit piracy and buy CDs, Epica is not going to be a better band. In addition, CD earnings represent a very small percentage of this category of artists' earnings. So your campaign, even if it has good intentions, doesn't help the band at all.
On the other hand, piracy can represent greater access and ease to those who can't, or don't want to, buy a CD; in other words, more piracy can help the band get known. The Internet has a very curious way of working through advertising and reciprocity. Today CDs are mostly for collectionists
