What a fantastic and comprehensive review/set up guide. Easily the best I've seen for any table saw on RUclips. Excellent review. I purchased this saw, together with the stand 4 months ago after some careful research and agree with all your pro's and con's. I have found the saw very stable when using the fold-up stand and would recommend buying. Great quality saw for the price.
I bought this table saw after reading comments about it after watching a UK review of the SKIL table-saw that’s coming to the UK, it’s remarkably similar and so far I’m not disappointed!

I’m sold! Was almost certainly getting this saw and the review has made up my mind. The rack and pinion is such a plus for a saw of this price point. Cheers for a thorough review 👍🏻
Yeah, I'm of the same opinion. I was looking at the dewalt but you can have this one with a 255mm blade compered to the dewalt 210mm for £100+ less. My only gripe and it's not the saw but the lack of a mobile stand, like the dewalt. I am trying to find a compatible mobile stand, if anyone has any ideas?
I did a small mod to the mitre slide to fix it a little. Deepened the slots to lower it onto the bed, flattened just a little the bottom of the plastic base and wrapped a single layer of electrical tap on each end of slide. Just as an experiment before maybe making a sled. Surprisingly much better, virtually no wobble and really accurate.

Brilliant, I've been mulling over getting this table saw and your review has been an absolute godsend. Cheers for the smashing and comprehensive breakdown, mate. Just a small note - when you go for a more budget-friendly model like this one, you usually need to swap out the blade and also invest in a better miter gauge to get the most out of it. But overall, this seems like fantastic value for money. I really appreciate you taking the time to walk us through all the nitty-gritty details. Spot on!
Thanks mate, and yes totally agree with you, I already had a better blade ready to swap out after this video was made, still thinking of getting a decent 3rd party mitre gauge though
A thorough review. Thanks. I was looking at this machine the other day. Didn't take the plunge but might now 🙂. Excel also do a similar one but it's only 1800W but it's £229.99
Thanks for the review - really great honest review. I was actually looking at a second-hand Dewalt, or a budget Evolution r255 - but I think this trumps both options. I agree with the mitre fence, so looks like another £90 from Rutlands or a third party one. Even so, at 295 this is still a good deal. Thanks for the content, good stuff.
Still very happy with my saw, inspite of some negative reviews, especially with the blade guard. A question for the more knowledgeable, can you recommend a good soft start unit ? Also could a sost start be fitted as an inline connection at the mains plug instead of on the switch?
Thanks for the review. Torn between this and the new Evolution table saws. Reckon this, the new Excel table saw and the Evolutions might all have come out of the same factory.
I hadn't noticed this until people started pointing this out, you might be right, apparently a "Skil" table saw is coming to the UK which is also identical to this machine so it'll be interesting to see other people's reviews
Great in-depth review! I'm seriously considering getting this table saw. Just hope I can fit it inside my tiny workshop 😂 New subscriber here. Hi from S. Wales 🏴😊
Thanks for the sub, I'm currently in the process of reviewing the new evolution TBL+ table saw which a lot of people are saying is a better competitor so if you're not in a hurry, stay tuned for that
What a great review and super thorough and well presented video. Subbed and looking forward to more videos. About the rubbish mitre gauge, it’s possible to use a punch or nail set to make a dimple at a few points along the bar which (by displacing material) makes the bar a little wider, works better on a steel bar of course, but may help. For the vertical angle it would need shimming. Best of luck with your channel, I am sure you’ll do fantastically well!
The Excel is well reviewed and actually on sale on amazon atm for £169. I was researching the various options but at that price why even bother, I just went ahead and bought the Excel
Excellent review! I bought this saw too because of its price and its features and have also bought the Rutland Mitre fence to be sure it would fit. It makes a world of difference with the adjustable slides to take out the wobble. The flip stop works well with no movement when making repeat cuts. It has locking points every 5 degrees and you can set it anywhere in between by locking it manually. It’s a really solid piece of kit. Do you know if there is an industry standard for mitre slots in table saws?
Annoyingly, I forgot to film the part where I gave measurements of the mitre slot itself. I checked it and its approx 1cm deep x 2cm width. I googled it and that seems to be the typical standard size, but I don't have any other mitre gauges to try it so can't confirm. I think I know the mitre gauge you have, that looked like a good peice of kit 👌 thanks for your comment
odd one bit with the way the way the ends of the mitre guage are bevelled does the plate fit the other way up? looks like the mitre fence would pass over a 45 cut if on the fence side of the blade fitted the other way up? Might help with the lean back.
Thanks and no thanks at the same time ! I spent hours watching table saw reviews, mainly US based, settled on the Skil table saw and... it's not available anywhere in Europe. Gave up and bought a Scheppach table saw. Well, I just refused the package and waiting for my Rutlands. 😅
I dont think it's on Amazon I'm afraid. Rutlands are UK based and I bet international shipping would be huge to go to Australia. I've seen that the "Skil" table saw is almost identical to this though, maybe that's available near you? Thanks for your comment
I've had mine now for about four months and it hasn't missed a beat. There has been quite a bit of talk about the differences between this and the DeWalt and the only thing anyone has given me is that the gearing screws for the height adjustment are plastic on the Rutlands and metal on the DeWalt. I don't see the price difference being justified by that! It's a cracking saw. I got a mitre gauge from Banggood and shoved the other one in a drawer with all the other standard issue ones. Never had a good one!
Yep agree with all the comments - excellent review delivered in an easy but professional manner. I have bought the Rutlands mitre gauge which is very much like the Incra one I have on my bandsaw. My very budget Workzone saw has actually served me well and is surprisingly accurate for a £100 saw. Unfortunately the pressed tin table has non standard mitre grooves so I snapped up the Rutlands mitre gauge offer and am looking for a saw which was going to be a Dewalt but what a price. I think you have convinced me and I assume the Rutlands upgraded mitre gauge will fit the slots which I also assume are standard 19mm.
Thanks for your comment. Annoyingly I forgot to add the dimensions of the mitre slot in the video, but yes the mitre slot width is 19mm. Mines reading 19.2mm which may or may not be that slight wobble in the video which I was referring to. I'd like to assume the upgraded fence from Rutlands is compatible but you'd have to check from their website
This looks great. I notice Evolution have just released a new table saw with rack and pinion fence too. In fact it’s very similar right down to the push stick storage
Great review. Very comprehensive and informative. Next purchased decided - thank you! Your style is good and talking speed is spot on. Great future I think 👍 Next videos - would be interesting to hear your thoughts on your thinknesser and planer. Are they any good? Do you use them enough to justify the outlay? Well done 😊
Thank you, I think my dewalt thicknesser is great, I can't really fault it it's definately worth the extra bit of money because it produces small shavings rather than strips of wood that clog up the machine like my old Triton thicknesser did. My Scheppach planer is okay, it's getting old (approx 5 years). It's not been used tons in that time but I've found the dust extraction pretty poor and the fence likes to move a tad. It does produce a nice clean/flat cut but I think for the price I paid (£400) I'd rather get a sturdy 2nd hand cast iron top planer.
A very fair accurate and Informative video. But you did give me a scare when it came to cutting the plywood. At the very start of your cut. You had your arm right over the top of the saw blade You scared the living Daylights out of me. Then you quickly corrected yourself and changed arms thank God. One slip standing the way you were, and you would of been in serious trouble. At least you realised it. All in all a great video. and very fairly done This saw seems to be very similar to the new evolution range. I think not released yet. Did see a video yesterday on youtube of an early release. model. They seem to have corrected their miter gauge Problems. All in all, I think the evolution model R255 is a bit better having the slide in Table Stand options. including mobile trolley.
With the 90 degree mitre you could use aluminium shims where the thread of the two bolts with wing nuts clamp to it. Just a strip a few millimetres think would do it.
Hi! Thanks for the video and the review. Was wondering: what makes this one better than the Evolution R255TBL or the Bosch GTS 635-216 (both slightly cheaper than this Rutlands)?
Funny you should ask, I'm going to be reviewing the new evolution R255TBL+ in my next video so I'll make some comparisons between that and the rutlands. Until then I wouldn't be able to say which is better
It would stop small slithers of wood falling down the gap, but I don't think a 0 clearance insert would help much with dust. The blade guard would help reduce the spray of the dust and keep it contained but I don't like using a guard especially cause it has no hole for extraction aswell. I think you'd either have to set up a vac that hovers over the table/wood or buy a 3rd party blade guard which comes with a dust extraction hole
Thank you for the brilliant Review matey! I don’t know if you have seen the New Table Saw for Site by Evolution as that is seems the same copy of this one except the Riving Knife as you can remove it so if you prefer use the Dedo Blades (I think that is what they cal) you can do that. I guess they done that so it can be used other side of the pond. I got their Rage 5-S but having a few issues which I’m waiting to hear from Evolution. Oh, they Dust collection is also good and got Slow Start Technology. Nevertheless, thank you for your detailed review as I believe, *_Our World_* is a *_Shared Experience_* … Remember, *_Life_* is *_Short_* so, *_Live Long_* and *_Prosper_* … 🖖 Cheers matey!!!
This might be a dumb question, but can the riving knife be lowered much below the height of the blade? I've been considering buying this saw for cutting fret slots using a crosscut sled and a specialist fret slotting blade, in other words making multiple non-through cuts. The thing is, those blades have a tiny 0.6mm kerf, so the riving knife would completely block the cut if it can't be lowered out of the way. I'm assuming that others who use table saws for this purpose simply remove the riving knife completely, though I note that you say this model doesn't seem to allow that. Excellent review, by the way!
Very good question, the riving knife can only go to the 2 heights as shown in the video, as far as I'm aware you aren't able to take the Riving knife out. For me, I have had the worst budget saws possible and they even include the ability to take it out so I think it is a small flaw you cannot do it with this saw. Although I do like the ease of adjusting it
@@SplitbarkStudio thanks for the reply! I actually got a response from Rutlands as well after asking them the same question, they said: "The thickness of the riving knife should always be slightly thinner than the kerf of the blade, as you mention, if the riving knife is thicker than the kerf then the wood will not pass by the knife. The riving knife can be removed but for safety reasons we would never recommend this, it is an important safety feature of the saw." So apparently the riving knife *can* be removed (no idea how, as I don't have the saw yet) but good to know it seems to be possible. And whilst I commend Rutlands for their adherence to full health and safety/liability guidelines, for the purpose I'm looking to use it for, there is virtually zero risk of kickback etc, as may otherwise be the case when using the saw without this feature. Think I might just go for it!
It all looks like so much plastic and thin metal though, but I like the lightness, the throat plate won’t last very long, but even wood ones need replacing, be good if manufacturers left a copy template to make it easier to make your own. Having a locked riving knife is good idea, though I occasionally take mine off when doing rebates but that’s only because it’s too tall. The horrible brittle plastic blade guard is awful. Be good to see if the fence moves with the machine locked to the floor, but that looks good especially for that kind of money, is there an extending fence? I still use an old ELU which is great with extending rods for the fence so I can rip 8x4’s but not the most accurate thing in the world mind you it’s nearly 30 years old!
It does have a few plastic parts to it, although the parts that are necessary like the surface and fence seem to be strong enough (at least for what I need). To be honest, I have no clue if there is an extendable fence for this or not but can say the fence and adjustability of it hasn't failed me yet
I brought a cheap titan table saw. The blade cuts fine it does what a saw should do. The biggest problem are the guides they are cheap and flimsy. But if money towards new ones or make something a little more sturdy and it would be fine
Thanks, quite a few people said the same thing, I also noticed this looks even more identical to the Skil table saw which I believe is coming to the UK at some point
@@Litehamer It's only £30 cheaper than the base Evolution model. And the Evo has more and better features too. Sliding table, Steel blade throat not flimsy plastic, Geared micro adjust bevel, Better mitre gauge and bigger cut capacity right of blade
@@alexcurmi7412 Looks like Rutland dropped their price a bit, presumably because the (slightly better) Evolution came out? The two machines are very similar and are quite likely made in the same factory. I guess the choice comes down to if you need the Evolution features enough to pay the extra, but for a DIY user they are both excellent for the money.
So there’s no way of removing the riving knife? You couldn’t then make a zero clearance insert plate eh. Do you know if there’s a zero clearance insert plate available to buy for this saw? Love your channel.
Doesn't look like you can pull it out, don't get me wrong there's probably a way you can but I wouldn't be comfortable in doing that. Doesn't look like they do zero clearance inserts either. Been thinking of making my own out of wood. A lot of people have been comparing this to the new evolution table saw, that might have a removable riving knife?
I am looking to replace my cheap SIP table saw. I have built it into a workbench but the top is warped. I use a sled and other jigs. Do you use a sled on this as if you can't remove the riving knife I can see it causing issues
I havent made a sled for this yet, although I don't think it would cause too much of an issue proving that you make the blade gap slightly thicker to accommodate for the riving knife. A lot of people have spoken about the new Evolution table saw being better than this, I'm not sure if the riving knife can be taken out but worth a look 👍
@@SplitbarkStudio I was looking at the Evolution one as well. The only drawback with those is the bore size of the blade as they have a non standard bore size so you have to buy their blades. Unless of course there is something on the market to adapt
Deffo need a TS with a fence that can be locked on both sides. I've found that work can slide off line and ride up as well if you your fence isn't solid.IMO.
Very nice overview ! How noisy it is ? If you've worked with other saw how is it on the noise level compared to others? I ordered it yesterday but I'm still not sure if I can use it in the garden of my house or should I rent a space to work on it ? Thanks anyway
It is quite loud, but any table saw with this type of motor is gonna be like that, its just one of them unavoidable issues I'm afraid. I used to have a cheap titan table saw and it was louder than this however
Excellent review, thank you, but please stop spreading the ‘no dado blades in the UK’ myth. If you want to buy a dado set, they’re freely available. Extended arbour saws aren’t as freely available, but that’s because these saws would struggle to meet other EU (UK) Regulations (braking and guarding), NOT because ‘dado sets (or groove cutters) are illegal’. 👍
It isn't a myth, dado sets are in practice almost impossible to use with our health and safety laws, even if you could somehow manage to satisfy all the health and safety requirements relating to the dado itself you would only be allowed to use it if you have no other possible way of cutting the dado. I had the HSE round to my workshop, he went through all the things I would need to do to make using the dado 'legal' he then said you have a router table and as that is safer and available to you you must use that instead.
@@thomasbroker69 it only applies to commercial use, you can do what you like in a home workshop, in a commercial setting you cannot by law remove or interfere with safety equipment and that applies to riving knife and guards, but you can buy a dado compatible table saw.
I havent purchased a 3rd party mitre gauge for a table saw yet so haven't got any recommendations sorry. The slot for this saw is 19mm wide x 11mm deep if that helps with your searches
The new Evolution job site saw looks almost identical to the Rutlands unit in so many respects that I assume they both come from the same source. There are some significant feature differences which may explain the extra cost of the Evo unit and makes choice a matter of personal choice. However, having had dealings with Rutlands in the past over an issue with their router and router lift, I found their insistence on conducting a dialogue via email and refusing to talk to me on the phone (try finding a phone number for them) very frustrating and unhelpful so that I would think very long and hard about spending my money at Rutlands on anything more than a cheap set of chisels - expensive machinery - most unlikely. Evolution on the other hand were very helpful and via the phone sorted a problem out for me very quickly and with little debate, and I have no link to Evolution. That's my experience of the two companies.
As many have said, it does look very similar to the evolution. I cant fault either company, I've got the new generation cordless mitre saw from evolution and I love it. I did notice that evolutions table saw has less power than this table saw though
Nice review. Not many Rutland reviewers out there. Which is a shame really as they do some good stuff and are a uk supplier. A lot of reviews are for more American tools.
This is almost the same as the Evolution R255TBL @ £329.99 but that has a sliding portion for the mitre and has the Evolution multi material blade (which I can attest, does cut through anything!)
Rutlands - are they the ones who only allow five star reviews on their site? One of several clones at various prices, including the new Evolution which is strikingly similar.....
With all the reviews of table saws I’ve seen none give the width and depth of the miter slot as after market mitre slide bars are a certain size and may not fit like the Evolution Rage 5s the slot isn’t deep enough
I have bought a few Rutland tools in the past, while they are cheap the customer service when things break (which they do) is horrific. There is literally no phone numbers to actually speak to someone it's all done through a slow tortuous email exchange that days when a 10 minutes phone call would have done the same. You often can't get a replacement as they only buy limited stock so just offer you a partial refund when really what you wanted was a replacement. You need to do a follow up 6 month review & I am certain you will have had issues by then.
MITRE SLOT - Mitre slot is 11mm deep x 19mm wide. (Forgot to add)
Is this the standard that all the major saws use ???
@@philliproberts6137 From what I can research, yes it is, some of the well rated mitre gauges such as the INCRA brand have gauges for 19mm width. I would of course, double check with whichever you are looking at buying first

Great review thanks, Rutland do sell a “premium mitre gauge” which looks like a good option to avoid the issues you highlighted.
Just hope I can fit it inside my tiny workshop 😂
New subscriber here. Hi from S. Wales 🏴😊
Thanks for the sub, I'm currently in the process of reviewing the new evolution TBL+ table saw which a lot of people are saying is a better competitor so if you're not in a hurry, stay tuned for that
@SplitbarkStudio I sure will! I've seen a few reviews on it, but if I can save more, I sure will. Budget isn't great at the moment!
this vid is worth a sub on its own.. cheers 👍
Put shims (paper) between the mitre gauge fence and black plastic to cant out the top of the fence to make it 90 degrees.
A great review - I can see lots of similarities to the new Evolution R255TS saw launched last week.
You can use shim washers to level up the mitre gauge.
Reminds me of the Skil table saw I bought but that is a good thing. This one looks good too.
Great review, if they put an induction motor in this table saw, it would be a best seller.
Excellent review.
Thank you
Great review fella. I’m looking for a budget saw and this seams to tick all the right box’s for me. Keep em coming 👍🏼
very cool review. very useful and informative!!
Thank you :)
Thanks for this.
Bought the Excel equivalent at £185. Really pleased with it. Slight differences but essentially the same saw.
Excellent presentation.Clear, concise and informative. At £200+ I wouldnt call it budget
Thank you
odd one bit with the way the way the ends of the mitre guage are bevelled does the plate fit the other way up? looks like the mitre fence would pass over a 45 cut if on the fence side of the blade fitted the other way up? Might help with the lean back.
Great review, thank you!
Thank you
Thanks and no thanks at the same time ! I spent hours watching table saw reviews, mainly US based, settled on the Skil table saw and... it's not available anywhere in Europe. Gave up and bought a Scheppach table saw. Well, I just refused the package and waiting for my Rutlands. 😅
It is a real good vedio to watch with, thanks. Perhaps it is available from Amazon in Sydney Australia. Please confirm thank you in advance
What mitre gauge did you go for?
@Goodness_hey The Enjoywood one, a bit cheaper than the Hongdui and good enough for me.
I was just going to say the same thing
A lot of people have mentioned the same thing, they look very similar. I did notice evolutions motors are weaker though
Great review. Very comprehensive and informative. Next purchased decided - thank you!
Your style is good and talking speed is spot on. Great future I think 👍
Next videos - would be interesting to hear your thoughts on your thinknesser and planer.
Very good practical guide, so thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Thank you
Great review, thanks
Thank you
A very fair accurate and Informative video.
My fingers thank you for next time
Nice review.....this machine looks identical to the Evolution Rb255L ?
Very similar you're right, I'm in the middle of reviewing the new Evolution R255TBL table at the moment
Hi, you say you will change the blade for future use, what did you change to
From amazon - TCT25540T Saxton TCT Circular Wood Saw Blade 255mm x 30mm Bore x 40T. Good all rounder for ripping/Cross cuts
With the 90 degree mitre you could use aluminium shims where the thread of the two bolts with wing nuts clamp to it. Just a strip a few millimetres think would do it.
Great idea, might try that
@@SplitbarkStudio Right, looking forward!
This is a cool video thank you. Would a 0 clearance cut thing help with the sawdust on top?
It would stop small slithers of wood falling down the gap, but I don't think a 0 clearance insert would help much with dust. The blade guard would help reduce the spray of the dust and keep it contained but I don't like using a guard especially cause it has no hole for extraction aswell. I think you'd either have to set up a vac that hovers over the table/wood or buy a 3rd party blade guard which comes with a dust extraction hole
@@SplitbarkStudio thank you, have you got any idea if this saw can be built into a workbench? I’m tempted to buy it :)
Excellent 👍
Thank you for the brilliant Review matey! I don’t know if you have seen the New Table Saw for Site by Evolution as that is seems the same copy of this one except the Riving Knife as you can remove it so if you prefer use the Dedo Blades (I think that is what they cal) you can do that. I guess they done that so it can be used other side of the pond. I got their Rage 5-S but having a few issues which I’m waiting to hear from Evolution. Oh, they Dust collection is also good and got Slow Start Technology. Nevertheless, thank you for your detailed review as I believe, *_Our World_* is a *_Shared Experience_* …
Remember, *_Life_* is *_Short_* so, *_Live Long_* and *_Prosper_* … 🖖 Cheers matey!!!
I actually got a response from Rutlands as well after asking them the same question, they said:
"The thickness of the riving knife should always be slightly thinner than the kerf of the blade, as you mention, if the riving knife is thicker than the kerf then the wood will not pass by the knife.
The riving knife can be removed but for safety reasons we would never recommend this, it is an important safety feature of the saw."
So apparently the riving knife *can* be removed (no idea how, as I don't have the saw yet) but good to know it seems to be possible.
I moved the screws for fence now i will have to align them?
If you're referring to the screws the fence sits on then yes, you'll need to make your fence parallel to the blade, i also do this in the video
I brought a cheap titan table saw. The blade cuts fine it does what a saw should do. The biggest problem are the guides they are cheap and flimsy. But if money towards new ones or make something a little more sturdy and it would be fine
My first table saw was actually the cheapest titan I could get, the power was pretty good but I agree the fence/guides weren't so good.
Excellent, very thorough review, seems to be a cheaper version of the recently released Evolution range.
Thanks, quite a few people said the same thing, I also noticed this looks even more identical to the Skil table saw which I believe is coming to the UK at some point
Really enjoyed this useful video, thanks. Is the rack & pinion mechanism made from plastic or is it metal?
Appears to be plastic but i could be wrong
Looks remarkably like the evolution R255 available later this month!
But almost £100 cheaper
@@Litehamer It's only £30 cheaper than the base Evolution model. And the Evo has more and better features too. Sliding table, Steel blade throat not flimsy plastic, Geared micro adjust bevel, Better mitre gauge and bigger cut capacity right of blade
@@willholt100where are you seeing this price? When I look online, the Rutlands is £295 and the evolution is £379.99.
@@alexcurmi7412 Looks like Rutland dropped their price a bit, presumably because the (slightly better) Evolution came out? The two machines are very similar and are quite likely made in the same factory. I guess the choice comes down to if you need the Evolution features enough to pay the extra, but for a DIY user they are both excellent for the money.
excrlent review best regards nuno portugal
So there’s no way of removing the riving knife?
You couldn’t then make a zero clearance insert plate eh.
Do you know if there’s a zero clearance insert plate available to buy for this saw?
Love your channel.
Doesn't look like you can pull it out, don't get me wrong there's probably a way you can but I wouldn't be comfortable in doing that. Doesn't look like they do zero clearance inserts either. Been thinking of making my own out of wood. A lot of people have been comparing this to the new evolution table saw, that might have a removable riving knife?
@@SplitbarkStudio thanks for your reply buddy.
That’s the only thing bugging me about this saw.
Great channel.
Every day's a school day, I thought it was the same rule for all saws, thanks for letting me know
It isn't a myth, dado sets are in practice almost impossible to use with our health and safety laws, even if you could somehow manage to satisfy all the health and safety requirements relating to the dado itself you would only be allowed to use it if you have no other possible way of cutting the dado. I had the HSE round to my workshop, he went through all the things I would need to do to make using the dado 'legal' he then said you have a router table and as that is safer and available to you you must use that instead.
@@richmiller540which is why table saws for UK have a shorter arbour, to prevent you fitting dados!
I did not know this, not used a dado set in a long time, is there a good reason why this H&S is in place? What was wrong with using a dado set?
@@thomasbroker69 it only applies to commercial use, you can do what you like in a home workshop, in a commercial setting you cannot by law remove or interfere with safety equipment and that applies to riving knife and guards, but you can buy a dado compatible table saw.
evolution have a new table saw just out, very close to thus rutland ,and with a folding stand. . can you recomand a mitre gauge for this saw.
I havent purchased a 3rd party mitre gauge for a table saw yet so haven't got any recommendations sorry. The slot for this saw is 19mm wide x 11mm deep if that helps with your searches
Evolution saw also has the sliding mitre attachment!
I do like the look of that sliding mitre attachment on the evolution, very unique design for its price range too
Im quite sure all tools from Rutlands are rebranded WEN products, this in particular is identical to the WEN TT0811
It also looks scarily similar to the Skil table saw from America too
Can the fence be setup on the left side?
Just checked, yes it can, but you will not be able to cut as wide of a cut. Maximum width you're looking at is maybe 28cm?
You might be right, someone mentioned earlier about the Skil saw that's coming to the UK and that looks identical too
Aluminium or cast iron table, and the first thing to change is the blade and you have a great saw.
This has a cast aluminium top, the stock blade on this thing isn't too bad, but I have opted for a 40 tooth blade for a smoother finish
This is almost the same as the Evolution R255TBL @ £329.99 but that has a sliding portion for the mitre and has the Evolution multi material blade (which I can attest, does cut through anything!)
I must admit, I do like the look of the sliding table on the evolution, I'm interested in seeing someone making a comparison
@SplitbarkStudio I have the Rage 5s and it is very useful!
where are you seeing this price? When I look online, the Rutlands is £295 and the evolution is £379.99.
It's the same as the Skil saw even down to the push stick. Only big diffence is the Skill has a 4 legged stand.
Seeing you how you try to tighten the screw from 90degree stop block... omg, really ? 😳
Hello does anyone know how to adjust the blade angle so it cuts at 90 degrees please?
You can either use a square and place it against the blade or you can use a digital angle reader like I used here
Thank you very much. And thank you for the really useful video.
Yes we do have access to dado blades.
Every day's a school day, thanks for the update
Rutlands - are they the ones who only allow five star reviews on their site? One of several clones at various prices, including the new Evolution which is strikingly similar.....
I'm not sure, this is my first rutlands product and haven't had any grief from them, I probably would rate this saw 4.5 stars if I had to though
Seems very much like the new evolution R255TBLX+
With all the reviews of table saws I’ve seen none give the width and depth of the miter slot as after market mitre slide bars are a certain size and may not fit like the Evolution Rage 5s the slot isn’t deep enough
Good point, I just checked and its 1cm deep and 2cm wide, hope this helps
@@SplitbarkStudio thanks for replying in that case the after market mitre bar will fit 👍
is it cast top or pressed one?
Cast aluminium
@@SplitbarkStudio is it good and new saw ?
Tested the saw and it is so hard and loud on start as when starting I need to hold the saw not to jump of the table.
It is loud but I havent had any issues with it moving though
@@SplitbarkStudio I am putting soft start module to it.
You're not the first to mention this, I haven't had problems yet but that's definately something to consider
can you compare it with dewalt for £500?
I could be wrong but I thought both the Dewalt 7492 and the £500 version were the same except slightly larger with the 7492 being a 250mm blade
@@SplitbarkStudio I do think that Rutlands table saw is better quality than those way too expensive dewalts anyways...
I find the easiest way to adjust the stock mitre gauge is to throw it in the bin and buy a new one.
