Nice video, best footage I have seen from the first few moments. It's a pitty you didn't keep going at around 1:07! Great shots driving down Osorno in the ash. BTW, I live 28km from the mountain but to the other side. We had almost no ash at all. Just luck - and wind.

Great video, thanks. Wow, Calbuco's a mighty volcano. Makes me rethink my last summit climb up Mt. Ruapehu, an active volcano (in New Zealand's volcanic plateau) with its frequent dummy spits. Recently got views of the mighty Cr.Tronador whilst hiking in Patagonia. Chile's got sooh many mesmerizing volcanoes!
I Believe Chile is the country with largest number of active of Volcanos, also is the country with biggest amount of islands in the world. Chile it's one of the best places to go out and have an adventure trip

Imagine a volcanic eruption coupled with a magnitude 6.5 earthquake! i experienced a 5.5 earthquake and it was insane! Very scary experience!

I live directly west of this volcano. The earth quakes ran about a 6.0 to 7.0 constantly fir 48 hours. I was also near the epicenter of the 8.8 in 2010. so, this was concering enophe that I put my dogs in the car, but never evacuated. The earthquakes from this erruption was more like a steady movement, like being in a boat on the ocean. like it had the potential to make you sea sick. very little sudden excelleration like typical earthquakes.
@@cenccenc946i guess ill have a nervous breakdown with 8.8! the 5.5 and its aftershocks that lasted for 3-5 days terrified me. i was inside an elevator in the 24th floor when it happened. the experience almost made me crazy. every aftershock sent me running outside. i felt like im being crushed, i cant breath if i stay put. i just need to run. everybody was worried.

Volcanos are beautiful and amazing, but they can be very dangerous, it is scary not knowing when it's gonna erupt.

How many active volcanoes does South America have. A major volcano eruption can alter weather causing crops to fail and causing hunger.

im in such wander right now
o.k., I live directly west of this volcano and spent 48 hours watching it none-stop. That was not even remotely the best video or photos of that erruption.
The erruption started in the late afternoon, on a completely clear day, causing the setting sun to light-up the ash collum with rainbow colors against a dark blue sky at sunset.
I suggest searching for other videos and photos on the internet of the erruption. These images were taking mostly from the osorno volcano (about 10 km down wind), thus almost too close to see what was really happening.
at night, the lava and ash colum generated electric storms all night around the glowing lava.
This was the 3rd major erruption I have watched from my house in southern chile, and if you want to see active volcanoes, Chile has a few that are in some state of active erruption at any moment. occasionally they act up providing a real show.
most of them are not dangerous because they sit in a national park along the eastern mountains. the ash is typically more of a problem for Argentina than Chile. In fact, I can not recall anyone ever being killed by a volcano in Chile.
Scary as fuck to watch in person but I'd try to save as many lives as possible
nobody was hurt in this eruption. just structural damage.
