- Video technology and science converge on an active volcano in Vanuatu, where explorer Sam Cossman operated camera-mounted drones to capture high-definition images of the spectacular yet dangerous Marum Crater. Cossman and his team piloted the drones over the 7.5-mile-wide (12-kilometer) caldera while confronting toxic gases and boiling lava. Although two drones succumbed to the harsh environment, the team was able to bring back video and photos that will help scientists learn more about the volcano and the life around it.

Fascinating, but when you advertise "DRONES SACRIFICED" I expect to see the sacrificial video of the drones falling into the lava. Please provide that.
I believe then the footage is gone with the drones.
Ghassan Younis I don't think they were streaming high-def feed off the drones, to heavy, much more expensive hardware to feed the volcano.
fozzibab I concur. Don't tell me. Show me.
fozzibab Agreed!
Ghassan Younis yes of course they think about the probability that a volcano eats their drones so they spend more money on the drone to make a live transmission possible just to watch it die.
We want the sacrificial footage. Misleading title!

Less talky, more showy. They all convey the same info in every volcano show ever made.
I'd love to just sit there & watch volcanos bubbling away with no other background noise.
+M Halvaresh I agree. They hype this footage and then show us very little of it. It clearly was done for National Geographic but there have not been any new dvd releases in a couple years on this topic. If they can't show the footage here, let us know where we can go to really see it. Otherwise, talk about a lot of hype with no payoff.
So spectacular. Compliments and thanks from an 88 year old Englishman. March, 2024.

The Title of this video shouldn't include the word 'sacrificed' but rather 'being sacrificed'. Huge difference.
7 years late but still relevant. Good video
I climbed this with my girlfriend last year. Was a particularly active day. Was the most fantastic experience of my life. My girlfriend was utterly terrified however and to this day I still get "I climbed a volcano for you, you do the dishes" Still totally worth it. We were almost flattened by a piece of superheated rock the size of a piano. Landed less than 20m away. The radiating heat was insane. It was at that point my girlfriend begged for us to go somewhere safer.
Not long afterwards someone was pretty badly injured sadly. Still, there were the local guides taking us up there while wearing thongs. They are tough motherfuckers.
@@mirapatel8715 Sadly we are not, ended in flames haha. Will always have great memories like this to remember the good times though!
This is such a cool story. I wish to be there one day, thanks for sharing!
That was amazing!!! Thanks guys for coming up that close to the crater. It was really amazing to see how the volcano works under, it was so awesome and wonderful like i can't imagine how much more violent that lava could be deeper down. I hope we discover a material that can withstand that heat and make a drone out of that so we could see the earth down to its very core. Who knows? Those lava, like the ocean in the surface, also has a floor and there's an even more violent force under that that's not lava anymore. Hmm...or what if there's really no center? Because our planet is actually infinite, like there's a worm hole deep down there that transmits us to a different dimension. Haha. I'm having so much imagination and fiction here because of the video. It was really wonderful. Amaziiiiinggggg!!!!!!
