  • Little less wind this time so the narration is easier to hear. Quick trip through the new garden; also, I begin to explain that growing Jack-o-lanterns is not the same process as and growing giant pumpkins. Stay tuned for more ranting all summer!

I love the galvanized planters. They look really nice.

Thank you! I just saw a video where some gardener was saying why she hated hers and that she is removing them, but nothing she said about them seemed particularly bad or worrisome. And they look much neater than the cloth beds. They are also very easy to keep the poodles out of, lol.

It looks really nice. I miss the hey day in the 00s when there were several of us pumpkin and gourd growers. I finally figured out my seasons here in Florida and now I have jerk neighbors all around. Someone is spraying herbicides. I don't know how and it's killed everything. I lost so many expensive plants. Even if I knew how it was I can't afford to sue. Only the stuff I covered with tule to keeps the bugs off has survived.

So glad to hear from you! I did start a pumpkin-growing group on Facebook and it ended up being overrun with giant-pumpkin growers and farmers, so I gave up. Not that I don't like those people, but it wasn't the point of the group. The group was for people wanting to grow plain old jack-o-lanterns in their back yards, and the giant-pumpkin folks in particular were scaring them off by making them think they had to have a professional set-up to grow pumpkins.
I wish your neighbor would move so you could grow again, now that you have the season figured out. I understand, though. On the south side of my lawn I have a neighbor who has someone spray glyphosate on their lawn all the time, and it killed my 2 cherry bushes. Again, I hope that neighbor moves away from you. And once again, great to hear from you!

@@somebodysbackyardpumpkinpa5134 Thanks. Nice to see you update too. I'd love to post videos again but yeah with all the jerk neighbors gardening isn't working out for me. I wish good people would move in for sure. And that's so annoying about your group being run over by giant pumpkin growers. I miss the old days online when my livejournal pumpkin and gourd group was popular. I did manage to grow one large tomato for the first time this year.

@@ScaryFear (this is me on my other channel) Great to hear about the tomato! At least there's some satisfaction from the garden. And yes...the name of the group was Backyard Pumpkin Growers Society and I can somewhat understand how we got giant-pumpkin growers (even though there is another FB group dedicated to growing giant pumpkins in your backyard) in spite of the fact that I kept explaining that we were about growing jack-o-lanterns. But I don't understand how we got farmers. Even more amusing, one of them asked the group "how many acres do you have?" My garden is a fraction of 1/4 acre, lol. I couldn't believe that question.
Looking forward to looking in on your budgies!

@@alix5704 Oh man yeah it's a Backyard as in Suburban. Yes like you said some people have grown a big one in a small yard but it's about regular sized pumpkins. I'd dissolve the group and start over since there's already a group for that. Thanks. I still have budgies. Things have been rough here the last two or three years so I haven't been posting as much as I would like anywhere. I want to get back to it.

@@ScaryFear I hope you do get back to it. Hugs on all the difficulties.
I was unable to dissolve the group due to Facebook restrictions, but handed it over to...a farmer. In the future if I start another such group, I'll put "suburban back yard" in the title (and probably still get giant-pumpkin growers and farmers!).
