Quick primer on fertilizing pumpkins (and other things); an update on the short-vine pumpkins I'm growing this year, and remind me next time to tell you about a RUclips channel called Pumpkinista. All giant-pumpkin channels are great, but hers is downright educational on how to grow a giant pumpkin, which I know many of you are interested in.

Late start this year due to illness, but dropping this little video to show I'm still here. Pumpkins for this year include Candy Korn, some short-vine Russian pumpkin (apparently translates to Bushy Orange, so that's what I'll call it in future videos), Jack-o-Lantern, and Harvest Jack (a newer, disease resistant large pumpkin).

Thank you. I hate cell phone videos, although most of the videos of my cats and dogs are from my cell phone. I won't use the cell phone in the garden. I did order a new camera today and expect it by late this week. Looking forward to the battery lasting longer than 10 minutes 😆 And I do enjoy transferring the video to the computer and editing it there. So much easier than on a phone where everything's tiny.

@@alix5704 Oh I totally agree with everything you said. My phone is old from 2016 and you can film on the side so it looks like a normal camera. But I love cameras and have my digital cameras too. Yes phones are too small and you can't get the quality and zoom that you do with a real camera. And yes editing gives you so much advantage on a computer you can't get on a phone. I think about getting rid of the stupid thing. I don't really need it and the rest of the world doesnt either. It looks really nice. I miss the hey day in the 00s when there were several of us pumpkin and gourd growers. I finally figured out my seasons here in Florida and now I have jerk neighbors all around. Someone is spraying herbicides. I don't know how and it's killed everything. I lost so many expensive plants. Even if I knew how it was I can't afford to sue. Only the stuff I covered with tule to keeps the bugs off has survived.

So glad to hear from you! I did start a pumpkin-growing group on Facebook and it ended up being overrun with giant-pumpkin growers and farmers, so I gave up. Not that I don't like those people, but it wasn't the point of the group. The group was for people wanting to grow plain old jack-o-lanterns in their back yards, and the giant-pumpkin folks in particular were scaring them off by making them think they had to have a professional set-up to grow pumpkins. I wish your neighbor would move so you could grow again, now that you have the season figured out. I understand, though. On the south side of my lawn I have a neighbor who has someone spray glyphosate on their lawn all the time, and it killed my 2 cherry bushes. Again, I hope that neighbor moves away from you. And once again, great to hear from you!

And yes...the name of the group was Backyard Pumpkin Growers Society and I can somewhat understand how we got giant-pumpkin growers (even though there is another FB group dedicated to growing giant pumpkins in your backyard) in spite of the fact that I kept explaining that we were about growing jack-o-lanterns. But I don't understand how we got farmers. Even more amusing, one of them asked the group "how many acres do you have?" My garden is a fraction of 1/4 acre, lol. I couldn't believe that question. But I'm in zone 5B and our normal summertime temps are in the low to mid-80's (F), and this summer we've routinely been in the low 90's with little or no rain. I think that's added to the stress of the plants, along with the dust from the pavers and early over-fertilization. My bad.
