I was a 45 commando for 12 years , failed my SBS selection process due to my eyesight, shame but upmost respect for these guys n gutted I could not be one
You tried mate, that's all that you could do.
Have you looked into laser eye surgery
@@Peter-vu5wl nah you need perfect born eyesight for special forces most of the time. Laser eye surgery counts as corrected vision
Zac in Australia SF were told "If you want to stay in those units, you have the surgery." So i assumed it was the similar my bad
At least you tried give yourself credit for that...
As a civvy it blows me away what these fellas get up to. I’m grateful we have guys like this, we need to put more effort into taking care of them when they return.
👍🏻
We really do ! mainly it’s about suffering from stress which dramatically decreases levels of testosterone. Companies then just throw pharmaceutical pills at them and wish them luck. Also MDMA trials began a while back in the US causing the cure rate for PTSD to go from 14% when on anti depressants to 77% on MDMA

Im Marine Recon retired, trained with Royal Marines back in the 80s, superb troops and we worked very well together, still in touch with 3 of them. No allies work and fight together like American/ Brit forces.
I'm assuming u worked with the 30 Commando Group?
@@dallasyap3064 I was with 2nd Force Recon, and yes
@@michaelmancini5773 I'm just thinking, so like Division Recon would be similar to Surveillance & Reconnaissance Squadron, while Force Recon would be similar to Brigade Patrol Troop right?
@@dallasyap3064 So the mission requirement and objectives of Force Recon have changed since i was active in the mid 80s, when I served, we were attached to MEUs ( Marine expeditionary units) as an aggressive Recon Unit, and more heavily armed to engage behind enemy lines, I spent much of my time on an assault ships and amphibious vessels
@@michaelmancini5773 I see. But however, today's Force Recons are still stationed with MEUs aboard assault ships.
I really loved the British politeness of the SBS Warrior when he said " Could you turn that camera off please ". 🇬🇧👊.

That’s cousins from across the Channel.
I couldn’t do what these guys do, these guys are true warriors with a mental fitness and strength most of us mere mortals can only wish for. I admire and respect them enormously for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make. They are a special breed, so glad we have people like this that are prepared to do the things they do to keep us safe. They do this with little or no public recognition, perhaps that’s right perhaps it’s not, we owe them a debt of gratitude that we cannot repay. I just wish I could buy them a drink to say thank you, it’s the least I can do.
If it’s all you’ve known all your life it’s normal and most of the time boring!

my family was vacationing in fl about 15 years ago. i was 15. a british sub was anchored in port for some political meet & greet ceremony & the royal navy men were put up in condos on our floor. they were the greatest guys & although very polite & kind to everyone, you could tell they were rough & tough ( & a bit crazy) enough for any battle & living undersea for months at a time.
the floridians were very patriotic & welcomed these soldiers with open arms & respect. bartenders & customers bought them drinks & restaurant owners picked up their tabs. the soldiers were in awe of their good treatment. 1/ they told us many brits looked down on soldiers as many of them were lower income, less educated rough kids. 2/they couldnt believe how beautiful florida was...the soft sand beaches, the warm & sunny weather, etc... they wanted to come live there after getting discharged. we invited them to dinner one night & then they insisted on taking my dad out drinking with them on their last night & my dad who got home about 3am told us he had to sneak out through the kitchen because they kept buying him shots & didnt want him to leave! & wow could they drink! lol.
the next day we found a hms royal navy submarine hat on our door knob. it had the one of the guys name on it inside. my dad of course has the hat in one of his bookcases & when ever i see it, i think of them & wonder if they are all ok & if anyone of them made it back to florida. we have so much respect for our military from all our allies.
sounds mega mate. florida sun, decent beaches etc. its nothing like what we have in england mate rain, crappy beaches with stones that reck ur feet when u walk barefooted. no wonder the lads and gals enjoyed it mate.
I'm proud to have worked alongside members of the SBS while on a 2 year tour of secondment back in the early 80's, I was a serving RMC.
Me too + our motto was ‘by stealth and by chips - we sustain!’ Memories of Poole.......

Joseph Boland it’s not a regiment
@M O Keep dreaming. There's a reason SEAL Team 6 killed Bin Laden and Delta killed the leader of ISIS.
@M O 🤣🤣🤣 Can't handle the truth I guess
RiseFrom TheAshes yeah because they were both American led missions. In the bin laden raid they failed to share any intel and wanted it to be a American only mission. The death of the ISIS leader on the other hand the SAS was actually involved in the planning, recon and intelligence gathering before the operation.
Imagine been them Africans on that Italian cargo ship on the Thames Estuary who tried to overpower the captain ect only for the SBS to cut all the power and come out of nowhere to finish you 😂 🇬🇧 🇬🇧

What a shame there not paid the same rate as our beloved MP's !!!!!

And those same MPs will try and prosecute those heroes instead of awarding them with the pensions they were promised. Bastards.

I’ve a feeling they would probably do the job for nothing because they are devoted to what they do. But they certainly deserve a good wage and pension.
Kudos to the pilots that save lives. Oft forgotten. Some of their moves are legendary.
Prince Andrew flew the SBS in Falklands War... which meant he was a very accomplished pilot and balls... He still can sweat incidentally!! How he has fallen from grace!

The SAS/SBS are the best trained fighting force in the world
Btw first into action by Duncan falconer is an excellent detailed account of serving in the sbs. He mentions an exercise where 6 of them were dropped by Heli on an uninhabited Scottish island midwinter. Stark bollock naked. With a 20 metre roll of hessian, and absolutely nothing else, to be picked up in seven days time.
Which I would guess is a fairly primal lesson in teamwork.

In case anyone is interested there’s an exceptional book called First Into Action, by a guy called Duncan Falconer. He talks about the whole selection process for the SBS and about serving with the 14th Intelligence Co in Northern Ireland.
I read his book. Probably the best book i have come across.
A lot of that process has changed now of course... Due to the UKSF, a lot more bed sharing.... The SBS have had to learn from Mobility Troop in early Iraq... a great read is Zero 6 Bravo.... the most violent engagement of the Iraq war, plus the deepest behind enemy lines incursion. and an equally impressive escape and evasion response..
Amnesty international called for an inquiry into the deaths of so many Taliban prisoners. I take it they'd have preferred an equal amount of British SBS were killed?
Non sbs were killed in battle of qala I jangi
in ww2 my dad (rip) was in a danish SBS commando unit ,trained by a famed hong kong trainer who also trained the British SBS back then. they were placed on armament cargo ships to keep off saboteur frogmen /enemy /pirates heading into the Asia pacific war zone. he was trained in fight to kill hand to hand combat including knife/Bayonet. he would play demonstrate his moves for fun when we were kids and we wanted to learn how to do them but he said no you might accidentally kill someone. his moves and boxing looked amazing and scary. he so fast it was like a blur. an unsuspecting thug/attacker would not know what hit him the end.....

What amazes me is how they manage to do all that incredible and difficult stuff whilst carrying their massive balls around with them.
My Uncle served 20+ Yrs in RM 42 Commando Poole...he became an Arctic Warfare Instructor and was promoted through NCO ranks to finally RSM (WO2).... I remember he was climbing the walls in 2001 during the build up to Afghan Invasion (as he was not long retired), but saw Many Conflicts; ranging from NI, Falklands (was landed 72 hrs prior to invasion as Recon Team, where he spent 3 days in a ditch, less than 100m from hostiles) through to Desert Storm (1991). I suspect he saw other action which was never Publicly known. He was My Idol growing up, he was "ALL go and no show" nothing like what you see nowadays.....He would not have stood for any cameras round him (Unless a Rupert had ordered it so)......Maybe it was Him J.M . shouting from the R.H.I.B
Sounds like your uncle might of been in units he's not telling you about in full.
