Delta Force also known as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta(1st SFOD-D), Combat Applications Group (CAG), Task Force Green (TF Green) or simply The Unit, is the US Army's elite counter-terrorism unit.
Delta Force operators are the Best of the Best within the US Army. Extremely well trained and professional soldiers, capable of conducting the most complex and dangerous operations for the US military.
Delta Force holds its selection process twice a year in the mountains of West Virginia. If the candidates pass the initial one-month selection process they will go onto the Operators Training Course (OTC). OTC is a six-month course where the candidates will learn everything from CQB to Tradecraft.
Only around 10% of candidates will successfully pass Delta Force selection.
    Squadrons:
    A Squadron (Assault)
    B Squadron (Assault)
    C Squadron (Assault)
    D Squadron (Assault)
Combat Support Squadron (contains WMD experts, EOD personnel, medical personnel, SIGINT specialists, and other specialists)

Fact. Back when I was a teen in Fayettenam, my next door neighbor was a shooter on Delta.
I didn't know until after we left, when my dad let me in on the little secret.
I thought he was some chill civilian who liked to garden with his wife, 3-legged dog, and chicken. Both he and his wife were humble and meek.
Only afterward did I piece together why we wouldn't see him in his yard for months at a time.
I can't overstate how much I would have never guessed he was even in the military.
It taught me that Hollywood's Rambo and macho propaganda surrounding elite warriors is all a lie.
The best don't have a reason to convince you that they are the best. In fact, you knowing only jeopardizes them and what they do.

These guys experience a lot of trauma through their service. They are elite but they are still human. A close friend and Delta Force veteran recently died of depression. Please keep these guys in your thoughts and remember that the job is not just to be a badass, it is to confront the very worst that humanity has to offer. It is to experience some of the worst and most traumatic things a person can experience. And they need help when they come home.

People do not understand how special or unique it is for the public to be able to see these videos and pictures; to observe the nation’s elite of the elite in action. The idea of recording the feats of a country’s finest warriors for people back home to witness would be beyond belief for 99% of this planet’s historical residents. At no other time in history has this been possible. The writings of Homer were the closest thing people could get in ancient times to a first hand account. It’s pretty amazing and quite the privilege.
It’s the equivalent of the citizens of Sparta being able to watch the flower of Pella, Leonidas’s 300 handpicked men stack Persian bodies at the coast of Thermopylae. It’s the equivalent of the citizens of London spectating Henry V and his elite retinue of bowmen stand their ground against French knights at Agincourt.
All this only to also realize that we aren’t even scratching 1% of the surface of everything they do that will never even see the light of day, let alone be recorded. Insane! Be thankful for what you get to see these men do from afar.

These people are the REAL idols. Never mind the wars, never mind the killing, they are the physical and mental epitome of the perfect human. Imagine everyone around you is quitting because the task you’ve been assigned to is too much for that lesser majority, and you along with a select few are left standing out of 100 others that used to be right beside you. I can’t imagine that feeling. And while we all sleep peacefully at night, these men are making damn sure that tomorrow ends the same as yesterday. Respect.

I noticed during my three tours before my honorable discharge, from both active duty Marines and the National Guard. That the military is jam packed with brave, dedicated, professional people completely unaware that most of what they do is to prop up a military industrial complex that screws over the taxpayer, props up dictators, funds both sides of a conflict and supports tyrants that then produce a backlash that provides the reason why generations of youth wind up getting recruited by terrorists organizations that promise liberation and only provide more evil. It's like being a knight in shining armor thinking you are going to slay dragons, then you find yourself occupying other countries, supporting monarchies and tyrants in the name of democracy and kicking dogs in the street. I say to these brave people. If you truly want to be brave, truly want to serve freedom and democracy stop serving the military industrial complex, and serve humanity.

I knew Delta had copied their shooting house from the SAS, so Delta was shooting so many damn rounds in their shooting house it needed its own budget line item...as they say practice makes perfect (a PhD. In 1985 I worked with a fellow Captain. He was the prototypical Infantry Airborne Ranger: Max APFT, muscles on his muscles. Went to qualify for Delta and was back in a week. He aced the qualification except for one thing. He was too musclebound to do the Crab Walk, that simple little test of scampering around on your ass. He did not know it was part of the quals, or he would have reshaped his body for it. They said he could try again in six months. Don't know if he tried again since he rotated out a couple of months later.

@@MAN_FROM_BEYOND I see your point. But 1 thing that is, even a developed military might face shortages of training. An example would be the US Marine Corps Special Operations Capable (SOC) forces like MEUs and the reconnaissance elements. Their Special Operations Training Group (SOTG) has to liase with other SOCOM units and components for certain training. They even liase with the Navy for using some of its facilities and courses for SOC marines. Apart from that, I do believe I have read before that Paras have conducted fast-roping or something. However, being dropped from planes and canopying to the ground, and roping down from helicopters to the ground are 2 different things requiring different skills and techniques.

Even from a layman's perspective, it's fascinating to watch how deliberate and fast they are in their movements (necessary for obvious reasons). One thing I've heard multiple "Tier 1" operators say in interviews when asked what separates their units from others is the speed they perform at. The difference is noticeable even on video. I know it happens (probably more than anyone wants to admit), but how these units are able to assault buildings and not accidentally kill every non-combatant inside is baffling considering the tempo. Professionals working under the literal highest stakes imaginable.

When I finished active duty I went into the Guards and I met this older Sargent. He was always quiet and kept to himself. I was similar but something was different about him. After being pared as my battle for many missions we became good friends. He knew about nine languages and crazy smart. Come to find out he was Delta force. He was out for a few years and decided to come back in to finish a couple of years he had left for retirement points so he joined the guards. No wonder he was great at every mission

SEAL's are not tier 1, theyre tier 2. Delta are tier 1, and so are DEVGRU. DEVGRU are also hand picked, from other SEAL teams. And not just hand-picked, theyre hand picked into just having a shot at joining DEVGRU. There are also much more obscure and classified groups out there like USAISA and 75th Ranger Regiment's Regimental Reconnaissance Company. These are the guys who gather boots-on-the-ground intelligence for everyone else, you wont hear about them or know who they are or where they are. There are no pictures of them online, unlike for SEALs and Delta.
Then there is the best of the best of the best, CIA's Special Operations Group. They are handpicked from other Special Missions Units (tier 1 operators)
