ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video, Matt shows you how to stretch your inner thigh muscles. The hip adductor muscles can generate a lot of sensations of tightness when you sit all day and also from doing lots of lower body exercises.
If you find your groin is tight after working out or your inner thigh muscles feel really restricted, this stretch can help you improve your hip flexibility. With this adductor stretch, you'll be able to loosen your tight adductors all day long!

What... Ive been stretching for so many years and didn't find this stretch until now. Spent so much money on physio, and this hits the spot!!
Impressive how you can stretch and talk so calm. I’m practly screaming cuz it’s such a great stretch. Thank you
This was EXACTLY what I needed. Both my chiropractor and my massage therapist have been telling me how tight my adductors are, but because of my limited flexibility, those first stretches you showed are not available to me. THIS is going to be so useful, thank you!!
I got the best tip of my life from Dr. Jo, my adductor were so tight they would spasm.
She showed a video of how to loosen them through massage! Instead of massaging vertical up and down, massage front to back!
It hurt so bad when I started, now I'm normal, pain is gone! That is so bad when they are tight. Stretching did not work, I tried alot of things.
Then found Dr. Jo and finally got relief.
I wish you health and relief.
Holy cow this felt so good.
Whenever something hurts I always seem to end up on your channel and you always seem to have the answer. Thanks!
"To do this stretch all you need is a little bit of open space, which you should be able to find as long as you don't live some crazy sci-fi dystopia like Hong Kong or Japan." 😂😂😂
Throwin low key shade haha
but... i do... LOL
Or UK...
Or New York
@@AlcatrazCobrache Or Pinto, Spain
meanwhile, me trying to stretch at home in hong kong ....-.-
Love your channel man, have come back often, keep doing you
Wow! This!!!! I’ve been doing so many stretches to hit the spot that you just explained in this video. It’s hitting right where I need it to be stretched! Thanks for going deeper than butterfly stretch!!
great stretch, can't wait to get those looks while doing this inline at the grocery till though haha
Hahaha
😆😁😄
Perfect for getting the card machine at eye level.
0:16 Matt I hope you greet all your clients like this. I'm dead.
This stretch instantly made a difference, thank you!
I've been doing these for a week or so and been giving me a lot of relieve from my "FAI" issues... My knee totally wants to bend as well, so this vid def gave me a few more tips!! :-)
How can someone give thumbs down 👎 to this man and demonstrating
He is great 👍 and explains so well. Thanks man
Expressing all the adjustments and muscle focuses, like glutes, chopping into the floor, focusing on the thigh - was really helpful !
Such a great explanation and so simple. I love your videos. I am 6’6” and never had a stretch that helps me move into side lunges more. This is what physical therapy is all about!
I have had hip and lower back pain for many years now. In the last month I started stretching, after doing an x-ray to rule out other issues, and it has helped greatly. What I came to find out is that getting stronger in range of motion is very important. It tells my body that it won't get hurt in that position. When I started increasing strength in the stretch I found out just how incredibly weak some of the muscles were as the other muscles were over compensating for them.
Been looking for something to get that exact spot for months! Thank you so much. I am now subscribed
Thank you for sharing this video. I've never stretched my abductors. I was having trouble with my glutes and hamstrings. This was better than my physical therapy.
Great stretch! Thank you!
Your content is great man, none like any other content creators on RUclips.
Just came across this video. Awesome video and stretch. Thank you!
So helpful. Thank you!
This is my first time here ever. As an over 60 yr old horribly out of shape/overweight, I am incredibly inspired. Your calming, and kind demeanor makes me want to start moving. Thank you!!
Thank you. Instant and much needed relief!
Great video. I play a lot of tennis and use all kind of stretch exercises on my legs.
thank you so much. so easy to stretch and helpful
This is the best stretch I've found by far! Being able to adjust positioning in so many ways allows me to really target areas of the muscles that the other traditional stretches would never really get. I've been cycling for the past 3 years, but recently I've been trying to improve my training to the point that I can start competing at an amateur level. But, after destroying my knees and ankles playing high school sports, 25 years ago, it's not easy. Recently, I've developed pain and tightness on the inside of my right knee, right about where the adductor attaches just above the knee. The pain is easily relieved through massage, but I've been looking for a stretch that can help me avoid the pain in the first place. I've only done it for a short time, but so far, so good. Thank you!
So helpful!! Just did this stretch after my inner thigh pilates video.
This is the most the most amazing stretch and an awesome video. This position provides a stretch that nothing else can! It’s amazing to learn how weak my body feels here, which confirms how necessary it is!!! Thank you!!!! Also, the idea of shifting feet or hip or torso provides slightly alternate stretches and encourages strength training. LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Brilliant. Thank you!
Thank you - great advice
Super helpful! Thank you!
Love this❣️
Really great video. 👌
Great stretch , thanks
Right on.
Out of many videos and personalities I have watched regarding various bodywork styles I must say your presentation is not only informative but most relaxing .(.which I find helps with learning. ) So much of RUclips is filled with shouting beefcakes which not everybody can relate to. Also you have a voice that is pleasurable to the ear which makes all the difference. Thank you ..I have subscribed.
Hella insightful!
What about abductors.. How do I strength them w out bands.... I'm suffering from groin pain. MRI shows a Labiel tear. But have had it for yrs. Without specific hip pain. Also have numbness down leg. Sometimes it's so bad I
Can scream. Sometimes I do. If I do adductor stretch I will absolutely feel the groin pain isolated.
Anyway I'm a mess new lots of Strengthing. Always need ed to exercise.. To function.
Are you a PT? We're is your information. Are you in NY?
Note I also need machines to build STRENGTH... AND WARMTH.... NOT CHILLS IN APT.
IM LOOKING FOR A GOOD EXERCISE ORIENTED PT w exercise physiologogist. To work with. Who takes insurance. Any suggestions.
Your videos have helped me so much!!
Great instructing...Will be back!,
Great video young man!!!
Thank you, Great Khan.
Thank you so much! I have been dealing with this for so long. I have sciatic pain as well and that is all that my doctors / surgeon is focused on. My daughter suggested a massage therapist and he suggested to look up how to stretch adductors and Hip flexors and what you describe here in your video is exactly what I am experiencing. Thank you thank you!!
Thank you great stretch
OMG yes. After searching for quite some time this exercise finally feels good for me.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks so much!
Perfect, glad we could help!
6 years later.... Thank you! Just watched this video and now I know where the popping sounds come from. I avoid those movements. My inner thighs are so tight that I cry during stretching.
Very helpful
I’m hopeful with this information
Thank you!!!!!
Its funny the stretch wasnt intense enough for me to feeeeeeel it but it totally stopped the uncomfortable feeling i had in my inner thigh. Don’t necessarily need to push too hard to get a solid stretch!! Thank you so much
Matt you're the best. I've never stretched my adductors in hip extension and immediately I am getting at that damn thing that's been bothering me for years and causing trouble in the right knee.
AWESOME! Glad you found it so helpful!
same here. only pulls on inside of my left knee,, was hearing popping snapping on inside of right knee. yeah PT only giving exercises for stretching the adductors in flexion. The stretching in extension seemed to make more of a difference.
Off topic; There are peer reviewed articles on raw sesame oil helping knee pain. Works for me.
You are a magician, Mr.
Thank you
That's a good video.
This is good for me as the other two stretches mentioned always give me back problems.
Though as I live in a crazy science fiction dystopia an alternative might be welcome! 😅
Yeah, I felt personally attacked since I live in Japan lol
Thank you for this. I'm a deconditioned 50-something who's been reconditioning with weights and martial arts and my adductors need this education. :-)
Great stretch option and great vid, Matt! Always love your insight! Nothing against the butterfly and pancake stretches (do them daily), but really appreciate this posterior tilt variation for a standing/lunging option. I've only ever done the standing/lunge more anterior tilt version of an adductor stretch. The form is more like a side lunge, hinging forward at the hip, and I honestly kinda hate that stretch bc it is just way too easy to irritate my straight leg knee. And now I feel extra vindicated if I never do it again ;) because it's just another flexed hip option --the key observation you made for me in this video!!-- that I don't have much use for (as a squat, yes, but not so much when I'm targeting an adductor stretch). The version you show here, though, I like a lot and look forward to exploring. Thank you!
:-) Enjoy!
Thanks man
You are wonderful.
Thanks
Nice vedio , I do this exercise earlier but I forget it . Now I continue again . It's to much effective .
been having hip tightness due to a year old injury (Left hip/ L si joint). I tried this stretch on both sides. It did take some of the burning , tenseness down. It didn't take much to get a stretch as you said.. Shows me I need to work on this.
Lol a like for the kick at the end :D love his humour!
good show great content
i think it works. thanks.
Great vedio I have been having inner thigh pain I know now to stretch so my muscles loosen up some
Thankyouu soooooo much
Simple and effective
Thank you, these were gold. My adductors are ridiculously tight and so I avoid stretching them bc of the pain and popping. I can do these relatively pain free though.
As i was watching this i didn't want to do this move because i knew how tight my muscles were in those target area's i actually was going to look for a different video...something easier because my muscles being so tight...but i decided to try this position an I'm so happy i did i feel so much different i feel like i can move my legs and not be so tired i feel like all the tightness has melted away this is a jackpot video for me! Thank you so much and for being a great teacher!! 💕
I'm pretty sure this just released my neck. Thank you.
Yeah,... *that's* got it. Thank you! :D
Looks almost like warrior 1 yoga pose. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant. Helpful. Thank you! How do i sign up for workshop?
I was looking for a video like this because i was the doing the first stretch already and felt pain in my left adductor muscle from playing football its been like it for a couple of days now this explains alot though.
Imagine actually doing this in line at the grocery store😂😂 thank you very helpful vid
This works !!!!
Wow! I wish I could get that split 😲
Thankyou.
Don't think I'll be doing this in Tescos 😄
3 months ago I had an emergency c-section after 22 hours of natural labour... the whole ordeal was so hard on my body and extremely traumatic. I’ve had problems with my adductors ever since...They’ve been so tight and it’s been causing problems whenever I walk or when I get up after sitting for a while. This stretch was such a relief and such a release! It gave me tears seriously... this was so good, thank you!
Nice one.😉
Excellent stretch thank you I have been suffering from a painful right adductor due to golf swing. This has helped a lot have now subscribed for more stretches
Shpuld I be using the adductor weight machine at the gym to build up these muscles or is it not advisable?
Hey Mike, doing your anterior pelvic tilt programme, it's excellent. One question, when I do a squat without weight, basically lowering bum to floor I can't get my heels to floor. What parts do I need to address to fix this.
Keep up the good work
Steve
can count on bro to show me a useful stretch
AWESOME .... after years of horseriding - Im now trying to get my midsplits - guess what : my adductors are not interested in the latter - this and your adductor release is great!! I'll check back in with some results !!!
Genius
Hi Matt! i have a question/video request! I just found your channel so maybe you already covered this subject... link? I work in a clothing store, wich means i stand/walk/fold/hang/carry heavy boxes of jeans and stuff, all day long. Not only are my feet and legs super tired and heavy on the end of the day(i do admid i dont wear the most supportive shoes, but i have to look at least a bit fashionable *guilty grin on face*) also, my back, shoulders and neck get all tensed up. when i get home and flop myself on the couch i feel like a 80 year old and have to make all the grandma noises when i want to stand up. Are there any exercises/stretches i can do to help with this? :)
Love this stretch - thank you
I play hockey and tore my adductor last season. I am just starting to get back into being active after a couple months. The new season is coming up and I'm looking for stretches I can do before playing. Would you recommend this stretch before high activity?
Intense great stretch. What if I feel an ache in lateral thigh as I do adductor stretch?
went to see a massage therapist at a sports clinic, wasn't much use, so I'm just looking up tonnes of RUclips videos and trying to find the thing that will actually fix my pain
Can you advise which exercises are not ok to do after double hip replacement please. Had anterior with no restrictions but always a little concerned if ok to do. Thank you.
The first person ive seen and spoke to in 2 years that has said about adductor clicking.
Everyone else talks like im making my pain up.
Severe tfl and adductor pain. (Left side)
Adductor clicks when I stretch in the morning after just waking up or when I go to do adductor strengthening exercises my left adductor does a very uncomfortable click.
Is theres a relation between the adductors and the tfl ? Both for me are very painful but I thought they do total opposite flexions one abd and one add.
it doesnt feel like a muscle stretch for me, i feel a sharp uncomfortable ache closer to the hip joint. My adductors are super tight that i cant sit cross legged butterfly style on the floor. Do i keep at this stretch ?
How often should we do this stretch in order to see results?
Hi Matt, any recommendations for someone who has super tight adductors and cannot open up his feet more than shoulder width?
Conan
Its like doing a kata with deep position. My sensei told me that. wery good. I am 59 year old and try to get in shape again but are wery thigth in all my body and hips. What are the most effektive Way to loosen up to do High kicks. I can train every day!?
Looks like Warrier 2 which i do a lot in a hot room. 2 minutes per side plus another minute of side angle. I alternate with days off. do you find KT tape helpful?
What's the specific name for this last exercise?Just asking though..
What’s the name of the rouge bench in the background around the 20 sec mark? Thanks in advance
