- Having a look around in Akihabara's Mandarake, a huge shop that sells tons of collectibles but for me the best part is always going to be the great selection of retro games. Prices are high, but everything is in pristine condition so it's a bit of a trade off. Great shop to browse in at least.

#Akihabara #Japan #RetroGaming
love these game hunts!
I’ve been watching you for almost a year now and every video I watch it makes me jealous. I wanna go to Japan so bad!
And who isn't jealous...
I'm also incredibly jealous.
Hopefukky i b there next year
Make sure you don't get the experience of Earthquake
I'm having my coffee watching you have your coffee while watching you look at awesome import treasures. Something oddly calming about that. Thanks!
It's so nice to be able to see Akihabara when you're not able to travel there yourself now.
I love your channel,I'm a huge retro gaming fan I mostly play older games and when I do I play some modern systems like ps3,Wii,ps4,Switch and sometimes even 3ds,my favorite retro systems are Nes,SNES,Sega Genesis,Game boy Advance,Ps1,Ps2 and Nintendo 64 are some of my favorites I also like the vita and psp as well
Poppin twin bee looks like fun man👍 I havent been in Mandarake in a while. NEMO! Pajama hero you must play it. Very fond memories of it as a kid. Thanks man love the tunes🎶
Thanks again for another video Jim! Something caught my eye in this video, and now I find myself playing a fighting game for the first time in YEARS. Crazy! Sat down and watched Variable Geo after you pulled out the Advanced Variable Geo fighting game, and now I'm having fun kicking ass with the fighters. I suck at fighting games, but I feel like I just stumbled on a hidden little treasure here. Thanks for exposing me to something new and fun today! :)
these are the most coziest videos on youtube next to 24/7 lo-fi hip hop radio and rain looping. thanks
I was so confused that Mandarake in Nagoya didn't have any retro games at all when I went there.
Especially since they're known for having some very rare stuff and is picky with the condition for older games.
@Falcom Scott I just bought a copy of Pulstar for 254,000, so yeah, they do sell.
@Falcom Scott because I wanted it and I can sell it for what I paid or perhaps even more. My money isn’t gone down the drain. The Neo Geo has a very strong following and I personally know people who would want it for what I paid. I love the game though, so I’m not selling it. I got it to play and own. There’s nothing like collecting for the AES.
Mandarake is cool but good lord the prices suck
@@japanesegameexchange Congrats to Pulstar, man! And I totally agree about that last sentence you wrote! There's nothing like AES.
Nice video as always man!
Yeah, Mandarake is the place to go not for the deals but if condition matters to you.
I bought Macross Scrambled Valkyrie last year from the retro gaming Mandarake store at Nakano Broadway.
It cost me quite a lot but the condition was very good and except for a few imperfections on the box, everything else was in mint condition.
Thanks for the video. Mandarake has by far the best quality for games, hands down. Hence the prices. Even their "c" graded games are in much better shape than some of the other shops' B or sometimes A graded.
Always salivating at just the sheer overwhelming quality of these game shops, these Saturn and Mega Drive sections just look like heaven.
Back in 2008-2010 Mandarake had very decent prices and was actually a competitive alternative to Yahoo Auctions etc for hunting down rare games. Very good trade-in prices too. Frequented it quite a bit and made many good pickups there. These days it's almost Super Potato levels of expensive.
I notice English-friendly staples like Yoshi's Island and Rockman 3 etc are especially highly priced compared to what they usually go for on the Japanese market. An indication that they're priced for tourists, I guess.
Great video as always!
20:55 I have a CIB copy of that Kiki Kaikai Tsukiyo Soushi (Pocky & Rocky 2). Found in a Hard-Off "junk" bin in suburban Gifu for 1000 yen.
Great find👏👏👏
It would be great if you could show prices for your picked games and/or for high dollar games so we can compare with eBay.
Thanks for your quality content!
Thanks for Mandrake tour! I read Bill Cook's comment and It would be nice if you can make food and Kissaten recommendation video.
Love the shenmue music hell yesssss
Why do I insist on torturing myself with your videos??? So much classic gaming goodness just sitting there on those shelves... All those Famicom and Super Famicom games... It's maddening...
Keep up the good work, Jim. ;)
gradius II is the hardest gradius for me as well xD
I could spend all day in one of these shops.
Mandarake is really quite expensiv. Found so many for much less at Trader or Beep.Metal Black is a fun game and more or less the source of inspiration for Border Down.
despite the prices of Mandarake their selection is ALWAYS top notch! Excellent vid jim!
LET ME INTO JAPAN!!!!!!!
I wouldn't mind that popn twinbee sfc
Hi ! You should tour the entire card section too! Yugioh and pokemon ! That would be awesome
Man Mandrake... I really dislike the stairs going to the top floors :P
It’s amazing how much retro inventory Tokyo has. We have GameStop and vintage stock If you’re lucky
thanks for the eye candy
I can’t believe how expensive Go Go Ackman 3 has become. Thought it may have been the double whammy of a cib copy and Akiba, but nope. Even a loose copy on Suruga-ya is now 7,200 yen (and just a bit more for a complete copy). Another game that was affordable a few years back (can’t remember how much I paid for my loose cart, but it was definitely less than 4,000 yen) and has since doubled in price!
man japanese box art is soooo much better than what we get in the us
Good stuff, Jim! Mandarake is pretty great if you're into older collectible stuff in general. I've bought a lot of action figures and such from them. Always been quick and in great condition. Prices are also way lower than ebay, for example.
i love how c/c/c quality game in Japan would be A+++/A+++/A+++ in the rest of the world. ^___^
Do you have an earthworm? Jim!
Been there and it's by far my fav on in Tokyo.
Must go to...Japan....now.
This is my favourite shop by far. All high dollar stuff in there including Neo Geo AES is genuine. They buy stuff super carefully. You have peace of mind.
eBay is full of fake games nowdays and I have encountered a counterfeit Wild Guns once. It was a Japanese seller and he didn't even know. He had bought the game locally.
Man people really take care of their games in Japan. The boxes are nearly flawless
funny how i know that the music is from shenmue
ah, mandarake. such fond memories of browsing doujinshi.
I miss Japan 😔
You know what Jim? we need to see you go to a restaurant and do a food and beverage review at your favorite spot to eat. I think that would be a category to add to your playlist and see all he yummy cuisines that Japan has to offer bro.
Anthony..
How do you play your PC Engine? I play mine thru a DB Grafx Booster and HD Retrovision cables hooked up to a Retro Tink 2x. It looks amazing!
Just out of morbid curiousity, what do Seirei Densetsu Lickle and
Wanpaku Kokkun no Gourmet World price out at that you've seen in Japan? Love the walks through retro gaming of Japan :-)
just saw the Lickle in the vid lol. that answers that one :)
Always a pleasure watching you hunt. Do you ever trade in stuff at Mandrake? I've always been curious about their evaluation process watching others at the store. EB Games standards are pretty lacking here at home. 😷
I’m so sad I was meant to go to Japan end of the year 😢
If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Akiba Mandarake store the most expensive of the bunch? I heard that the other stores have better prices. That could just be a rumor though.
Not only Mandarake, a lot of stores near Akihabara are slightly more expensive. I went to different chain stores when I was there on holiday.
To be fair, prices in Book Off can be different. I have found games that were like 500yen and suddenly at an other location twice the price.
20:45
want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want
I wish I bought all of them 10 years ago.
Nice store. I appreciate their putting anti-theft tags on certain games to warn people like me to not even bother looking at them. Any thoughts on this store vs the one(s) in Nakano Broadway?
What’s it like in Japan with covid, the numbers seam really low. Do you feel safe?
May I ask if they still also sell PSP device?
If they are still selling PSP, how much would it cost in yen?
Are they finally shipping out of Japan?
I also haven't ordered anything from japan since 2.2020 when Covid started in Europe and it is still very bad case in here. Wish to know also if Japanese are able to send to Europe or Usa ?
I believe SAL/Economy Air is still unavailable due to lack of capacity, but regular airmail and surface mail have opened back up.
who stil buy these old games ?
you can play any of these games on android now
It's not about playing, it's about collecting!
@@spidervenom14 why ?
can u make profit from it?
@@thejmr Try looking up prices for some of these retro games. Some are worth hundreds to thousands of dollars. Like Spidervenom said - some people like to collect, you know, a hobby?
