It’s because most Japanese pride themselves in perfection and quality for customers when you come to the store
The U.S. no offense lacks customer service when it comes to older electronics when they are sold in thrift stores or Pawn Shops.

It's super interesting to see just how many things and variety of things japanese shops have. Here in America where i am, most the thrift shops are like 80% clothes, 10% books and 10% questionable electronics that may or may not work. But in japan theres tons of musical instruments, working high quality tech, tons and tons of retro games and systems, and dont even get me started on the anime merch! Its just amazing to see!

You could insert your Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow (+Gold/Silver/Crystal for the sequel) cartridges and use them to battle in the game via the N64 Controller. There was also a player (Game Boy Tower) so you can play your Pokemon game from your N64. It was really neat at the time. Thanks for sharing your experience in this store. I miss Hard Off, the Japanese thrift store are so great. Lived in Japan from 2005-9, I still consider Japan home, even though I'm Canadian, born in Ontario... Great tiny apartment series, hope to see more of them.

Hard off and hobby off were some of my favorite shops in Japan when I lived there! I would love if you ever made a map on google maps marking all the places you recommend in different parts of Japan now that borders are open. That would be great for people to find them easily since sometimes it's confusing ^^

I find uncanny how in Japan you can find old gaming consoles in amazing condition. They were either not loved enough (as in nobody used them) or loved too much to ever damage or get them dirty

That 3rd floor is very familiar to me as I have explored Akiba for years and have found some of my fave figures in similar places. Pure nostalgia for me.
