Norm, have you ever thought of doing an amazon wishlist so supporters can gift you things you'd like to do for an upcoming video? Camping gear or specific things for your apartment or for video content? I would totally be up for pitching in for something like that? (I know you're really humble so it'd probably sounds like to you "hey...buy me stuff if you want" and you're definitely not like that...but I thought it'd be an option! ;-) )

Oh my goodness Norm, my auntie had that carved table! She spent many years living in Asia and that table was one of the items she brought home to Scotland with her in the 70's! Hers had a glass top and also little shaped tables / stools that slotted in between the table legs for storage. They had the same carvings on the legs as the big table. Aww, that's brought back so many memories Norm, thank you so much! I've not seen the table in over 30 years so I may have shed a wee tear when I saw it in the video. Happy, happy memories :)

As a manager of a thrift store, I can appreciate why some of the cooler items would be priced in the lower range (this is the short answer). When you have an item that will be handled more than some others, it's best to price it to sell rather than risk it being damaged if it stays too long.

At 0:28 is a zen garden used indoors by people who don’t have the yard space to set one up outside. It is also used by older people who find it harder and harder to perform the necessary upkeep that goes along with an outside zen garde. It helps with meditation, to release anxiety, and promote a sense of calm and focus, especially if you have a stress filled life. One of my mother’s “friends” had one at his parents house that I would play with when I was younger. Haven’t seen one in over 30 years, awesome find!

The great thing about second-hand stores is you learn so very much about the people who live, and have previously lived, in area by walking through one. Not only by the content, but by how they price things too tells a tale of what the store thinks people will want most. You can also see what was a huge trend at some point if there's a lot of something odd, like the ice-cream makers or the polaroid cameras.

The Casio FD-10 you found is an awsome piece of tech history: Casio released the QV-10, the first digital camera with an LCD screen, in early 1995. The FD-10 could be attached to the camera directly to copy the photos to a floppy so you could take more than the ~90 (incredibly low resolution) pictures that fit the camera storage without needing to copy them to a computer first.
I never had one, I was just two months old when it was released, but I stumbled upon it when digging through the modern day history of photography.

During the 3 times I've been to Japan, have I visited loads of those stores to hunt for some figurines (obviously) and some diecast car models for cheap prices. (like older Yonezawa/Diapet models, Tomica's and scale model kits) Even though, those stores over here in The Netherlands are no way close to what the ones in Japan that have to order.

That table is super gorgeous. Reminds me of and would work well with the ranma in the houses there. I'm guessing the amp would be 2000-3000¥. Quite the racket 😆 The uniqueness of items from the smaller thrifts are a treasure. So hard to resist purchasing things you don't need. I haven't really ever popped into them, but this is illustrating that I should, especially in Kyoto...all that history/those antiques. 💜✌🐦

I'm from the states and from what I've seen, yes polaroids are coming back in trend. Not as big as it was a couple of years ago, but they're making modern polaroid cameras. Not so much as reintroducing older products but more like reinventing polaroids. The older/more vintage looking cameras are definitely more expensive going from 100~300 maybe more. There's also a bluetooth polaroid printer that can turn your digital pictures into polaroids. The wave/phase has definitely passed but film and such is still accessible

I love how unique Japan is and the stuff you can you can find. I would love to try to buy things from the vending machines.

I love these thrift store video's! I still own a Minidisc Player. Loved that thing so much even though putting music on the actual discs was a bit of work! It still works too! 😁

Oh my gosh. If you had a piece of glass cut to fit that gaudy table.....stunning. I’m in heaven with these thrift stores.

When I was holidaying in Japan I needed a spare suitcase just for extra stuff I bought & I found a thrift store nearby where I got an old suitcase for 300 yen (about US$3). Came in very handy and was almost going to buy a new suitcase for ~$100
