Aaron (Zohar Strauss), a respectable butcher in Jerusalems ultra-orthodox Jewish community, is married to Rivka (Tinkerbell) and is a dedicated father of four children. One day, he meets Ezri (Ran Danker), a handsome twenty-two year old student, and soon falls in love with him. He then starts to neglect his family and community life, swept away by his love and lust for Ezri. Meanwhile, paralleling this relationship, a neighbouring shopkeeper persists in seeing a man of her own choosing, even though she's been promised by her father to another. Eventually, guilt, torment and pressure from the community will catch up with the doomed lovers, leading them to make radical decisions...

"I was dead. Now I'm alive" those words really describe it the best...This movie is really deep and emotional. It catches you harshly to suffocate you with reality.The way Ezri had no one,was getting treated badly and still managed to feel love,it was beautiful.Aaron,you can see the changes in him too..Really loved this masterpiece!Good movie!
wow. this had me shaking. I mean like... I was raised as a very orthodox jew.. and when I learned more about the outside world and understood that my religion wasn't the most open and kind to everyone as I thought it was, I broke away from it.
I was not gay and didn't think like that but I was very uncomfortable with the idea that my religion was disapproving even in the slightest to relationships like this. My saying was "if it doesn't hurt you, and it doesn't hurt anyone around you, and you are not directly or indirectly causing people harm, then there should be no reason why you shouldn't do it"
Judaism complied with this rule for almost everything. After all, keeping kosher didn't hurt no one, and keeping the shabbat didn't either. But you hurt/harm no one if you are gay... and the Torah prohibits that. which made me let it go.
since then I have been severed from my religion, without any belief or faith and feel completely lost. I will not return to a religion that condemns anyone for who they love.

What a masterpiece! People ostracise others because they are uncomfortable with the unfamiliar and too arrogant about themselves.
The movie was so intense, so are the metaphors! The big giant metal door to the shop looked like an obstacle; the meat being butchered looked like the victimised characters; the gossiping moral crusaders only showed their backs or across the street hiding behind anonymity; a love scene reflected in the mirror as if it is just an image...
My heart goes out to it!
And Louis decided to wear a shirt with this movie title

I saw this film yesterday evening in Exeter. Can I just say wow. Its incredible. If you havent watched it and are thinking about it I would REALLY encourage you to. Literally one of the best films I've seened in a long time. Its very convincing, beautifully filmed and amazingly acted. 5*s deffinatley. Be prepared to cry though!!
A truly amazing film. Thank you to the director and the cast for delivering such difficult story.

EXCELLENT movie....I've watched it about four times here on RUclips. The acting is stellar, storytelling is fantastic. A very good movie. Deeply emotional and just amazing!!!

Although there is not much power in this movie there is something in here. This movie, whether it intended to or not, is poetic from the beginning to end. The untrained eye will not fully grasp it, but if one searches for it he or she will surely find it.
This movie looks so cute and I must watch it.

I´ve just seen this movie, it is brilliant ! not only about love and passion, but about wisdom and forgivness.
I love the scenes where the characters, along with their intense attraction(tiva?)
are still ritually dovening and reciting Tehilim, expressing their love and
revererence for G-D. I've never found the two to be mutually axclusive!

Being religious and gay looks so fun. Especially the Jewish version praying to God, doing tefillin, having a boyfriend, singing nigunnim, reading torah.

Only last week (the last week of October 2020) found out that Ran Danker (Ezri) came out as a bisexual guy many years after this movie. I really believed that most of the actors in israeli gay-themed movies were gay, but no.

@xOxKurdParstxOx i am gay myself and i completely agree, the bad thing is there are men who are gay or at least bisexual who are pressured into marrying women and ahving children and they cannot hide the fact that they are gay. BU I COMPLETELY AGREE, I HAVE ALWAYS DISLIKED MEN WHO ARE MARRIED AND WITH CHILDREN CHEATING ON THEIR WIVES WITH OTHER MEN. AS A GAY MAN, IT MAKES ME VERY VERY SAD.

I think this is such an amazing movie, the context being controversial in a religious sense...it def is something i can relate to as my partner is jewish & not knowing much about the writings of the tora, this was a real eye opener:-). does anyone know if there is going to be a blu ray release?.
