Just dont forgett the fact that Stanley Kubrick died 6 days after this movie came out.
The author of the novella the film is based on, Arthur Schnitzler, did not last very long after telling the story either. He died 5 years after publishing the book "Traumnovelle" at the age of 69 of a similar "condition." Coincidently a year younger than Kubrick.
6 days after showing the final cut to Warner Brothers. The movie released much later in July

This is obviously an extremely edited version relying on repetition and slow motion to make up for the fact that half of the scene is missing because of explicit nudity.

for all the music nerds out there...i just LOVE the fact the pianist is actually playing the score with proper gear (even triggering the voice samples) you would have found in a home studio back in the days, with the mpc and other sample based stuff which is definitely needed to play not-so-keyboard-like sounds, such a cool detail!

Well, the explanation was that he was caught because of the taxi and the recite on the jacket but... yeah, that exchange of looks says it all. It looked like that was the moment he (should have known) knew he was fked.

The masks used in this scene remind me of the shaman masks which were used by shamans as a form of protection and power against evil spirits. The setting feels like a world in between worlds where humans and evil spirits can be present at once. This scene terrified me more than any typical horror movie.

How many of us have been to parties where we do not belong but was invited. We knew there was dangerous things going on yet we wanted to see more. For me, we did not have masks and the awesome mesmerizing chants were not in the background. Aside from that, i can relate!!!
