Great video Mr. Thorn! Only exploring the pedal best possibilities, just playing the necessary amount of notes. One of the best shootout I've seen. Congrats! Peace!
I use mine with my Fender Deluxe Reverb 1978 and this thing sounds AWEWSOME!. Have a massive clean power, a fng great massive distortion, saturation is clear with lots of dynamics. This thing is an instant classic. Cheers from Chile
How would that pedal do as a boost? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it supposed to add more gain the harder you pick? To me, a boost with that feature would be amazing. I really dig in when I'm playing lead parts, and a little extra gain would really help the notes sing.
I'm curious... Are those amps solid state or tube? Since They're Roland I'm going to have to assume they are digital right off the bat but you never know... Even Digitech and Line6 are making 'Boutique-esque' tube amps now lol
"Digital" does not necessarily apply to anything solid state. Digital signal processing can be done with tubes, though not very well. Quilter has done a terrific job of making all solid state amps that a very much like tube ones. Remember LAB amps from years ago? One of the very first solid state guitar amps that didn't sound like ass. Worst sounding solid state amps ever made were Kustom...
Hands down the best distortion pedal I've ever heard. Bought one on the advice of Paul Branin (check him out!!) and immediately bought a second one after I used it.
since i usually use a framus ruby riot for playing at home, there are times when a 40 watts class-a 2x12" combo is just too loud. even for bavarian levels where you have to encounter oompa loompa oktoberfest folk music ... so i still got a mesa boogie nomad 45 1x12" combo which has a fecked up dirty tones channel and can only provied clean sounds but them clean sounds are sweet as feck, so i experimented with the huge load of pedal from bluesbreaker over guvnor to way huge swollen pickle fuzz to make the nomads speaker go fuzz metal jacket again. i really could never imagine that i would use a very simple boss pedal to fuel a mesa tube amp since i have tons of preamps resting in my music/movie/couch and office room under the roof. srsly. btw: usually im not a classical strat guy that has no floyd rose, but that suhr is neat.
Nothing beats good ol' valve distortion, you get way more clarity than what is offered here. However this would be a good start for a beginner musician just starting to gig or practice with a band.
Whenever you hear someone open a sentence with "nothing beats", you are guaranteed to hear a narrow-minded opinion immediately after. There are very few guitarists, in the canon of rock/metal guitarists, who rely solely on valve distortion. Solid state distortion effects have been a hallmark of popular music since the time they were invented. This is yet another type of distortion, never meant to replace one of the others . Anyone using a pedal to emulate tube sounds is shortselling the pedal.
I think you mean solid-states are more harsh and shrill, no matter how well equalized compared to a Tube amp which is more naturally harmonic and pleasing to the ear.
@cast390: What are you Rob's hair/makeup artist? No offense to Rob, but watching guys with teased, bleached hair, lipstick, and rouge play guitar makes me feel funny deep inside my soul. You should keep your comments out of videos like these. Please stop posting if you aren't going to take your meds first. Pete's vids are not only entertaining, but shed light on products that most folks don't get to play with.
Yeah, only tubes make great tones. Except for SRV, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani (who uses only clean amp channels), Keith Richards, ... etc., who all have used solid-state pedals in front of a tube amp to get gold record tones.
I didn't know Pete did a Sweetwater video. He's an amazing player.

I love the way he plays, so clean.
Hey thanks! :)
A little too much high-end fizz for my taste, but the note separation is indeed nice. Needs a rounder top end to be ready for prime time.
maybe through a tube amp those harsh high end would go?

Good demo, thank you! A good Dist pedal no doubt!
Good demo - no BS and crystal clear tone.
Can't tell if this sounds so awesome because of the pedal or just because Pete is such a talented player
Pete Thorn, my new guitar hero and great guy in addition ! :D

Duff McKagan, why did you dye your hair black?

Very cold sounding amp.
+ShadowⓋ cold is not a sound
Hammer Johnston
It sounds cold and raw to me. Very abrasive.
+ShadowⓋ love that tone
Vadim Taranov
The opposite of warm.. right. Not for me thanks.
ShadowⓋ yeah, one man's trash is an another man's treasure!

Pete What do you think about Boss DA2 x DS1X?

Is this similar to an Exciter pedal?
No
@@adgreyx Well is it partially eq based like an Exciter?
And you suggest?
Are they still producing new units for this ? 2018
Summer: No, discontinued. I love Pete Thorn but there are way better demos out there. I am on the fence but I like the pedal, not this demo.
Which amp is this?
Roland GA-212
Nice and tight as well!
Does anyone know what kind of Roland amp he was using?
+marvel61 Roland GA-212
Thanks.
Sonic maximizer real close to this.
I disagree as well. Clarity is more solid state's thing. Tubes are warmer and smoother.
Have you actually played this pedal?
First time I've ever heard Pete play with a sound i didn't like....
I think you mean solid-states are more harsh and shrill, no matter how well equalized compared to a Tube amp which is more naturally harmonic and pleasing to the ear.
Pete Thorn looks like Pete Yorn.
no but from what i can hear here. it would be good if you are on a bugget. Usually most BOSS pedals are cheap

Por favor para su proximo video trate de tocar mas y ablar menos por que aburre!!! Con todo respeto grasias...
"Nothing beats" an unnecessary attack on someone's opinion.
Where he lookin at ?
At your poor playing.
@@eleazarlaggui9739 couldn't agree more
LOL
Be nice, Pete is cool.
