Just worked out today actually I've been listening to Less than Jake for 24 years this year (I discovered them in the Digimon Movie like a legend) haha
Saw them live at Reading festival. As soon as the first 4 notes were played the entire crowd of 20k+ people went absolutely mental. Fastest circle pit formation ive ever seen. Good times.
I love Less Than Jake. They're such a great band with simple, fun songs. Chris and Roger are a pretty good singing duo. Their music videos are hilarious. Horns are great. This album was the perfect balance of ska, horns, and rock/punk. It was recorded independently, then picked up by Fat Wreck Chords. It has a much warmer sound, good bass, and a balanced mix moreso than Anthem and In With The Out Crowd (although I like those albums, too).
Just saw them live in Tacoma last night. Hello Rockview front to back, they sounded great and closed it out with Gainsville Rock City which is such a perfect set ender for them! Been listening for 20+ years and here's to 20+ more!!
This album was in my CD player alarm clock in high school. I woke up to Less Than Jake every morning. Big influence on my musical preferences going forward. Still jamming out to them.

My son just found them asking if I ever heard of them. Got me nostalgic. My kids was like I only recognize Gator Beverage. Gainesville is definitely different.
true mate, I was late to Less than Jake and this is the 1st song I have listened to back in 2006. I was so down back then but found a happy place with LTJ and ska in general.
@@JourneyMan86 There is (was but still kinda there) a alley way behind all the shops on University Avenue. It was kind of driveable but not really and there was another part that was super sketchy and only walkable. Near the University and in the middle of where most young people were hanging out back then.
[It's 2024, you finally pop in your copy of GTA6, it's set in the state of florida, it's the first mission, you jump into a car... this is the first song that plays] 🤞

the record store in this video I would frequent all the time just down the road from thar record store against me would play shows at a friend's house..
I heard 'Losing Streak' and The Suicide Machines 'Destruction by Definition' at pretty much the same time back in '96. Til that time, I refused to listen to "new" ska- I used to argue that no band comes close to how good or original or feels as important as Op Ivy so why bother listening to lesser bands that all sound similar to each other, unless a band did something different or took the style down a new path like Sublime, I wouldnt even bother..... What got me to pull my head outta my all knowing teen ass, were the lyrics to both albums- they weren't goofy or stupid, that shit came from real places and meant something. I immediately loved both bands and albums and still do today.... So much so that I still catch LTJ when they come through town.... even if I promised myself I'd never be the old guy at the show... but fuck that, you see what a dumb asshole the kid who made that promise was, he didn't know shit about shit!!
Okay, love you guys! Love the love of the LTJ... but could we normalize changing? Let's all change and grow and become better! Because the truth is, that we all ARE, and that 90% of the changes are for the better! Otherwise we wouldn't have made the change! So please guys, let's not glorify any sentiments like "I'll never change". Maybe specify that they way you'd like to remain the same is that you'll always love everyone! That's much better! But most of us NEED to change... ... I am truly yelling self help and therapy into the void... this is how I spend my weekends in my 40s apparently...
Been 2 decades listening to them. “I’ll never change, I’ll always stay the same!” Still at 40 years old rock my chucks, bracelets and t-shirts

Same exact story here, except I woke up to the album losing streak!
Thinking back to the last time I saw them live. I was standing at the bar and they started the set with this song. Just joy.
This map
Hung up on the truck stop hallway door
Is looking worn
And I can hardly read it anymore
I feel like
I'm a speck thrown on the map and
I can't help my urge to laugh
I never used to feel like that
Well I'm half awake
And half a world away
All my past mistakes
And every misspent day
I wouldn't have it any other way
I'll try
Through my haze and half shut eyes
To count up all the reasons why
I should be back at home tonight
Well I'm half awake
Half a world away
All my past mistakes
And every misspent day
Proves that I'll never change
I'll always stay the same
I wouldn't have it any other way
I wouldn't have it any other way
I wouldn't have it any other way
I wouldn't have it any other way
Gainesville, Rock City
Gainesville, Rock City
Gainesville, Rock City
Well I'm half awake,
A world away
My past mistakes
And this wasted day
I wouldn't have it any other way
I wouldn't have it any other way

Man, this takes me back to high school. Listening to this on a cassette mix tape my friend made me in my 1993 Honda Accord.
2:09 - 2:22 best part!! Not heard this song in over a decade.
I just can't get over how amazing these guys are. So much talent. I will be rocking to them until my death bed❤️🤘
So this is what nostalgia sounds like. 2:24 is genuinely one of the best breakdowns of all time.

It's kind of fun to see what is there, gone, or has changed if you're from Gainesville Rock City and still there for 33 years.
I forgot about this song for like over 10 years. Amazing memories this triggers in me of college days
Always and forever one of my favorite bands
