Shnootz - Reaction Video (Madonna - Did You Do It?)

What's happening, people! I'm back with another Madonna reaction from her 1992 album Erotica, and this time we listen to a proper hip-hop track in '90s New York style, which uses the refrain from "Waiting" as a backdrop. And this one does indeed have sexual connotations, though as I discuss afterward, it seems like the reality of the narrative might be a bit more complicated than the storyteller suggests. It's basically the backing track of Waiting - Andre Betts (the producer), Mark Goodman and Dave Murphy did it as a joke while Madonna was out of the studio. She liked it and put it on the uncensored version of the album. I get it's a joke about male bragging, with one claiming to have done the do with Madonna and the others questioning and as much as I enjoy crude humour I find it a bit uncomfortable so was glad for the skip button.

After all that bragadocio, I found (and still find to this day) the punchline, the deadpan delivery of "he didn't do it," very funny.

I completely forgot about this track, probably because i fast forwarded it (i had the cassette version).
I think it should have been an extra track on a single release (like the other substandard "Up Down Suite" on the 12" version of "Rain").
Also I'm not comfortable with the misogynistic attitude of the song, even if it's making fun of that type of person, i think the irony is probably lost on a lot of the teen audience who bought this version as if it was something in a brown paper bag from under the counter and thought that behaviour towards women was healthy.
To be honest the whole "Sex" book launch overshadowed the album and tainted it somewhat, as people turned away from her and it became something i don't think even she wanted it to be. Pushing people's buttons is what she likes to do but i think at this point she was surrounded by "yes men" who just let her do anything she wanted no matter how extreme she wanted to push things.
Mind you by today's standards it is probably pretty tame, but i do think Madonna benefits herself when she is with someone equally creative and is more subjective about her reasons, so it's something she can justify, other than "it's controversial".
